The Guild II Renaissance
Developer Runeforge Game Studio
For centuries Europe has been dominated by the church and nobility. On the shoulders of ordinary people the servants of god and the noble families justified their power and wealth. This was the incontrovertible, divine world order. A truly dark era… In the 14th Century the world order is beginning to transform itself. From the Steam store page

May this be an example to devs and publishers of (g)olden games to have the wisdom to acknowledge the playerbase and allow their passion and creativity to take over. To everyone involved all I wish is "Honest beer, no less! God bless!"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Out of nowhere they just randomly decided to start updating one of my dearest childhood games. I am not crying, you're crying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Game getting solid updates to make it playable 16 years later while also adding more content through the reforge mod is unheard of in this time of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The team working on these updates deserve praise. Gaming is so back.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will be brief with this one. I love the concept of the game, the complexity, the political system is intriguing, the raw resource > finished goods assembly lines are fun to set up. This game would've been right up my alley... if it wasn't for the overly sloppy code and lack of finishing touches. I've initially tried to play this game vanilla for a few ~30 hours, unlocked tier 2 buildings with each class and got a rough grasp on how production chains work. I learned how to use consumables…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →STILL GETTING UPDATES 16 YEARS LATER This is a hidden gem. It's medieval sims with murder, politics, multiplayer and capitalism, There's nothing else like it. 11/10 must play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game on a mega sale. Grabbed Farjeth's Modpack (an actual developer of the game!!) which is still updated as of 2025!! Gameplay was fun and the loop is entertaining. Obviously old timey games have old timey jank but the gameplay itself is enjoyable. I've killed some hours on it. If the graphics and control were modernized, this would be a great game! Also I grabbed Guild 3 and it's so different.. I can understand why people didn't like it. Also grabbed Saelig - good homage but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing this game since it first released. I am so excited to see what new updates are next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Guild 2 Renaissance - one of the best games ever, a classic, even with the bugs that plagued it for so many years. But now, a dedicated team of modders/devs started to update this game, solving many bugs, and introducing new content for the base game, after so many years since its release. If you are a fan of medieval rpg-sim-dynasty-economic-political game, than this is the game for you, as long as you accept that it is an old game, with old, but beautiful even today, graphics. This game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good game but I HIGHLY recommend you to play with the mod Fajeth megamodpack who fix A LOT of bugs, and improves consequently the vanilla game with for exemple a better management when you let AI manage your buildings, improvement with the banker gameplay etc etc
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A newer better game like this is called "SAELIG" Check it out on steam amazing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As has been mentioned - this game is brilliant in principle - but let down somewhat by less than stellar production. Fortunately, the modding scene provides significant remedy for the Renaissance version of Guild 2. The unmodded game is worth it just for the originality and depth. With a mod pack making the game playable this is an essential part of any gamers chest.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Switch to the 4.6 Beta, I can't believe they're actually fixing this game. Has a whole session without any issues with 4 people
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Guild 2 has always been an amazing game. It was old and it definitely showed but you could tell the Developer really put thought into everything. Of course being old it meant that you got what you bought. all the bugs and issues were forever going to be present.... Until that is some updates started making its way to my recently updated page. At first they were small and suddenly they were Huge with changes and updates to include completely new content. Come to find out a Team of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It gets an update after this long time? We always wanted to play it. It has a great immersion but the desyncs well they were pain. BUT NOW THEY ARE FIXING THEM: WOW THE GAME IS SO BACK 10/10 Economy sim. Love the german audio.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I can't tell you if it's a good game or not, I've only got it to run once. It's an old game, it's understandable that it sometimes won't run but since it's not free, I also judge it how it plays in 2025 and in the future. I tried running it from Steam, from it's folder with different compatibility options, it's stubborn in its effort to not launch. Skip it, there are other old classics that do launch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is made to play for a certain time, if you play for too long it crashes at the same exact point every single time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the Greatest games ever. Was buggy as hell for several years, then the devs came back and started to rebuild the game for no reason making it better. Real chads the devs are.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Sims but if it wasn't boring, full of DLC and poorly optimised. I'm running this on a decent PC but it runs equally well on any potato laptop equipped with inbuilt graphics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a lot of Guild 2 and afterwards Guild 2 renaissance and O BOY. DO YOU LIKE ADVENTURE? ECONOMIC ACTIVITY? WONDER? DANGER? INCEST? PAIN? SUFFERING? CK3?DEATH? THE SIMS? WELL YOU ARE IN LUCK (unless you are here for the incest, it’s not JET a feature). Submerge in a sims like medieval adventure where you play as a family trying to go up in the world of a medieval city (or cities depending on the map). Work your way up as a farmer and roll playing as a Tyrel or Ronald McDonald’s giving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this buggy and old mess
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A burst of support after so many years really makes this game an interesting proposition, especially with steam workshop support. In all my years playing video games I have not found a game that offers what the guild 2 offers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is possibly the greatest multiplayer experience with the reforged mod. Get your buddies together and watch the Role play and lore unfold as you grow your Dynasty and attempt to foil your enemies. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RTS + RPG + Business Management + Economic Simulator + Sims + Sopranos and that still does not capture what to expect with this game. It is leagues ahead of its time and there still is no game that captures the crazy mash-up of genres. Kudos to the original developers, and major kudos to the modding community and developers who have kept the game alive for 15+ years. This game is janky, its confusing, some of the systems make little sense on the surface, but once you master businesses and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is my childhood. I got it long before it was available on Steam. I absolutely love it. There is honestly nothing else I can say. Buy it, enjoy it, it's more than worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game multiplayer is beyond peak its hard to explain. For $2, its the best purchase of the year. BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD BETA BRANCH + REFORGED MOD for the best experience. Find Dachi on twitch and ask about mega games for big fun. like +10 player lobbies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the Best game of the year it killed my friend who tried to download a modpack for it and one other friend's pc became sentient this is peak slop of the year #serflife #serfrich
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Setting up trade routes is finicky, which is core game play to avoid micro and scale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, I honestly can't believe they're still patching and improving this game after all these years. After being disappointed with The Guild 3—especially being able to kill, rob, and terrorize people with barely any meaningful consequences—I decided to come back to The Guild II: Renaissance. I was genuinely surprised to find out that the game is STILL receiving bug fixes and improvements in 2026. It's rare to see an older game getting this kind of attention so many years after release. Huge…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to find a husband. There was a high stats pirate about. I flirted with him, got in the tub with him, things were going well. Then he got pneumonia. I waited outside his house for days hoping to hit him up again but he died. So then I flirted with a nice businessman. Gave him a gift. He slapped me. Found another nice man. He agreed to marry me, then turned and ran off as fast as he could. Finally found someone to marry me so I could carry on my legacy. Locals started putting up rude…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The new updates really show what the community can do for a game. Thanks for trusting in us and allowing the game to be the best it deserves to be
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looked buggy and it's buggy, it looked complicated and it's even more complicated than I thought. Controls are comically hard for no reason and there are a lot of questionable UI choices; it's hard to do even the most simple of actions. I bought it just because I found it for a few euros (and is somewhat charming) and I'm not sure it's worth even a couple of euros to be honest, as it's basically unplayable. Secondly, italian translation is bad, it's not a deal breaker for me and it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, can do whatever you want but buggy as hell. Still worth playing it though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Guild II: Renaissance is a unique blend of life simulation, economic strategy, political intrigue, and roleplaying set in a living medieval world. Developed by Runeforge Game Studios and published by THQ Nordic, this standalone expansion to The Guild II refines and expands upon the base game’s systems, offering players a richer, more polished experience. It invites you to take on the role of a commoner in the late Middle Ages, and rise to wealth and influence through business, politics,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hello and welcome to a review of The Guild ll : Renaissance . If you can't be bothered to read TLDR 4/10 . - the Good - 1) Setting . 2) Decently complex rpg mechanics like jobs , businesses and such . 3) Certainly one of the more unique game series out there . 4) A Decent modding scene . - the Bad - 1) Networking is just awful . Buy ONLY for single player . 2) Even in single player there are still loads of bugs . - the Ugly - 1) The series is long dead . Guild 3 was a complete…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ignore the jank it's a supreme masterpiece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolute gem of a game that I wish I could recommend to more people, the fixes brought suddenly in 2026 made it finally a stable multiplayer experience no one should miss on! MUCH better than 1410 or Guild 3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great good old game, you will need to switch to the latest beta version for it to work properly on modern pc`s , also i would advise using the reforged mod as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(mixed, not for "beginners") the UI gets a bit harder at higher resolution. Various old game issues to account for. As for the game, you can feel like there is a lot but also limited, due to old controls and way of doing things. It can cause conflict with the player and how you might see the world and interact with it. besides that, it has some nice things one can do, if one wants to and get into the flow of the game. As like before the UI, tips and various UI controls are a bit iffy at times.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I’m really glad development has continued, and I’m excited to see new content, updates, and bug fixes coming in the future.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Multiplayer fix after 20 years, lets go
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best management sim ever if you can handle a little clunkiness and downloading of mods.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We got a Guild II Renaissance update before GTA 6
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, with the new update, this is the perfect time to buy it! One of the greatest games of all time and you can now do online multiplayer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've put 100 hours ito it and it just keeps disapointing after some time ... it really could be a great game, but it's just too raw, too unpolished... Sad really because I really want to like it (hence the 100 hours)! even after a few years. it starts out good, but it's just not finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have LOVED this game since I discovered it almost a decade ago. It feels like if Crusader Kings with actual 3d, personal gameplay instead of menus upon menus. The basic Idea is to start a dynasty as a single person, with a particular skill set as a Priest, a Thief, a Craftsman, a Farmer, even a Politician or Miner. With stable income, you can begin marrying and starting a family, raising children and building a home. When your dynasty grows large (respected) enough, you can engage in politics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favourite sim game out there! I still regularly listen to the soundtrack to relax
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Guild game of the 3, I just hope the new one will be as amazing as this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sure, it is an obtuse, buggy mess, but there is nothing out there that quite matches the unique game play this ancient game offers. This is an RTS-dating simulator-dynasty creating-survival, business management and building game/sim.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Guild 2 fills a nice niche of game. It is relaxing with a good bit of intrigue and plotting. The goal of being the last Dynasty standing is still something I've working on but there is a good set of tutorial videos to help get you going on the basics. The game is buggy but as a older game it still feels very fun to play and some of the glitches don't actually affect the game play. The (auto path) for units that stand around to do jobs is a bit annoying and requires a bit more micro…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish they would remake Guild 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play this right now its epic style no cap or 6 or 7's
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sadly still too many gamebreaking bugs and missing features...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Idk why i thought this would be any different. yes it is better than guild 1 but ultimately the AI is horrible and stops being competitive after about 100 years or less. the only difference is in this one your opponent dynasties keep respawning but they stop going for offices and don't bother to deal with you. much like the other versions of the guild 2 (also they die out around 100 years which sounds like a lot but you go through roughly a year a turn and each cycle is about 4 years) plus in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the objectively best game of all time without any doubt, thank you developers for reviving this masterpiece of a game as now I can convince other losers to play multiplayer again and get their businesses obliterated before getting their family members brutally murdered by me and my army of goons that make up half of the employed individuals in the Hanseatic League, we are so back with this one, truly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It a broken mess, how this has good ratings is beyond me. No ammount of mods and community support can save it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For new players: The game is janky, rough, and overly ambitious for its time. It was made without many of the QoL features common for modern econ sims, with questionable UI decisions and annoying camera controls, for weak computers built in a bygone era. You will be frustrated, but you will HAVE FUN because it's The Guild II. Did not expect a new dev team to give updates to one of the best games ever made. Congrats on the revival!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THQ and developers, thank you so much for this amazing update!
