41 of 41 · most liked firstNow, first of all, since this is not mentioned anywhere on the store page, the actual name (from the game credits) is The Girl and the Robot - Act 1. Game ends on a "To be continued" and the developer says on the forums that the Act 2 will be most likely a separate game. This seemingly intentional "shyness" to say what the game is, however, is not why I cannot recommend it. I cannot recommend it because it doesn't feel like a proper made for release game to be sold for actual money. The Girl…

You take on the role of a young girl who is trying to escape from a castle ruled by an evil queen with the help of a robot that you take control of via a magical amulet you conveniently find upon being freed from your prison by a mysterious old man. I wanted to like The Girl and the Robot. I really did. It's a great idea: controlling two characters in order to solve puzzles much in the style of games…

The mystery, the magic, the charm it had back then and still does to this day in my opinion. In short, I think the Girl and the Robot has mostly captured the same feelings I had over a decade ago. If that is the case, why do I find myself having difficulty recommending the Girl and the Robot? Might as well attempt to share my experience before I start to break down in disappointment. Atmosphere First…

There's falling damage, where if you jump from a slightly higher spot to a lower spot, you risk killing yourself. And wrestling with the camera sucked out a lot of my interest in it. The camera was slow, sticky, and would only follow on its own if you were running. Overall, I think it's a charming game that would have been made much better if the camera followed you automatically.

I've compaired it to a combination of "legend of Zelda Ocarina of time" meets "Brothers." My only true disappointment was reaching the end only to then find out that the game is only but 1 Act. Along with more online searching I discovered what is to be Act 2 will end up being a whole other game that I will have to buy separately. Be warned about…

I love the game's environment/atmosphere. You can tell that care was put into designing the game. The game's story is told through the environment for the most part but is interesting. While I wish the puzzles were a little more challenging, they are well designed and feel like a part of the environment instead of puzzles just thrown into the game. My problems…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Girl and the Robot has okay graphics, only music during fights, no dialogue, and decent controls, but they can be a little flaky. I disliked the ending and the "to be continued" B.S. I definitely won't be purchasing the sequel to this game. It's not a horrible game, but it's not one that I would recommend. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick Look: https://youtu.be/pS5LATkpxH8 A charming laid back game that is a mix between Ico and classic studio Ghibli movies like Laputa: Castle in the Sky. The main mechanic of The Girl and the Robot has you switching between two titular characters. When playing as the girl the game presents platforming style puzzles, when playing as the robot it turns into an action slash em up. With these two characters a nice balance in game-play is struck. I'm mostly impressed with the game's emphasis…

I first found out about The Girl and the Robot from kickstarter. I could not support the kickstarter campaign but I supported the game through another site. This game feels like a demo. The game does not feels complete. The story of this game is sparse and is mostly received through looking at painting. The game kickstarter trailer made the game look like…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really looking forward to this game. It basically takes the best part of castle in the sky and turns it into a video game. The atmosphere and the art style has a lot of charm and reminds me a little bit of ICO mixed with LoZ. I also think the visual story telling is done very nicely and if your like me and you love over analyzing stuff then you were able to pick up little hints and detail which expand on the story. Which in my book is fantastic. The combat however is rather rough, its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →########THIS IS NOT A FINISHED GAME!########### This is just Act. 1! Act 2 is going to be a separate game! I just finished this disappointing game just as the clock struck midnight to signal the new year and what a letdown. This was a mess. First and foremost, you need to know this game is not complete. There is no ending, it just ends on a huge cliffhanger after a frustrating and buggy boss fight. Then credits. This garbage fire just wasn’t fun. I only, only played this long to make sure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels like it's in beta. It's not categorized as being in early access, and if this truly is the finished product, I feel cheated. Even in the menu, the plethora of issues this game suffers from start becoming apparent. Graphical options are completely absent, along with incredibly basic features such as volume sliders ...Yeah, you read that right. There are no audio settings. That's almost impressive, but in all the wrong ways. I'm not sure whether this can be attributed to shoddy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little game with a lot of charm. I quite liked the soundtrack and the enviromental puzzles. The combat works but its not the game strongest point by far, the puzzles and the switching between the two characters are fun. The Robot can fight and push heavy stuff while the girl can maneuver the environment with ease and heal her trusty robot guardian after he takes damage. The game has fun and intresting ideas and the two boss fights where fun. Studio Ghibli is a strong influence on the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would not recommend this game to anyone who can only use keyboard to play. If you have an Xbox controller, it's probably a decent game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute. PS2 graphics in 60 fps.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this the greatest puzzle Platformer of all time? Is this the next coming of The Legend of Zelda? Absolutely not. Is it priced right for what it is? Definitely. You could do way worse for more. Check out my video for a more in-depth look. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CeDl0QC8hg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs should've noted that this was only a first act. If you go in with that in mind, it's not a bad game. The puzzles are solid, and the combat is slow and easy but it provides a stimulating break from thinking. It has its rough edges, but for a first release? It's really nice. I hope the devs managed to do something else, wherever they are.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i cant play it without the controller because i am using a mac laptop and my dell is not working if u have a mac then i DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I don't review games, but for this game I just had to! I won't write an eassy on the game instead I made a video for this occasion. So Let's Take A Look At The Girl And The Robot - https://youtu.be/yWi1zzcxb9I
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally finished this game after having it for years and... it was ok. Good things first, the art style is so charming. It's simple but really cute. And the controls are easy enough to grasp, you switch control between the Girl and the Robot to solve puzzles and progress further through the story. Your partner will always stay still so no worries about dodgy AI, I often found it was useful to go as far ahead as I could playing as the robot to clear away any enemies. The story itself, told…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed it. The Girl and the Robot was at a gamestop. I took it home, played it, and had fun. The graphics totally took me back to ps1/ps2 but that was kind of why I really liked it. They don't make games like this anymore. I hope they continue the story. Don't know why people are harping on it so much the story isn't even done yet. Play it for yourself, its enjoyable if you just want something short and easy. Its the simple things in life that make it fun. I repurchased it on steam…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Girl and the Robot is a short adventure game that obviously takes inspiration in games of the likes of Ico. Here, you'll have to make two characters collaborate, using their complementary abilities: one is strong and can fight and push heavy blocks around, the other is nimble and can jump and get into narrow places. I'll let you guess which is which. The mechanics convey well the idea of collaboration, and it shows a dependency between both protagonists. It can seem at first that the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i loved every minute of this game ... the story yes a bit cliche ... and hey the cut scense could use more work ... i mean i would have liked a longer game ... of which would have made me feel more for the two the girl and the robot..but i sorta was left un fulfilled after the end of this game like i would have cared less to what happened to them, i mean you hardly see or know why the robot is the way he is unless i missed something... it was way to short.mechanics are fun plot is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was such an awesome game. Ever since it was announced around what, 2013? 2014? I've been really hyped for it, so I was extremely excited when I saw it was finally released. Everything about it is great--the art and graphics, the gameplay, and the story. It pulls off a very interesting narrative without writing a word. I also thought that the gameplay mechanics of the girl and the robot working together to complete various puzzles to be very creative as well. It's great overall,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Girl and the Robot is a gentle, storybook-inspired adventure that leans heavily on atmosphere and companionship, aiming to recreate the quiet emotional resonance of classic titles built around unlikely bonds. Developed and published by Flying Carpets Games, it tells a simple tale of escape and trust, following a young girl who flees captivity and forms a connection with a lumbering mechanical guardian. The game’s ambitions are clear from the outset—it wants to be less about action and more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game I've had on my back burner for a long time. I had initially purchased the PS4 Deluxe physical copy of the game and had started playing that, but then turned to Steam once I lost access to my PS4. With how the game began and hearing just how wonderful the soundtrack is, I was excited to finish the game. This is a retro-styled single-player game where you play as a Girl and a Robot, and you switch perspectives throughout the game to complete puzzles. The Girl is initially…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →first of all this should have been called the girl and the robot PART one i dont know if the devs intend to make a part 2 but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they better because leaving the game of on such a click bait like title is just not it. overall though i do enjoy the game. the animation is very reminiscent of those old animations i used to watch as a kid but unfortunately the decision from the devs to not include a manual save button absolutely just kills this game for me to be honest you have to go…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this as a holiday gift. Seems very wholesome and fun, even if the environments at the beginning seem bleak. But it seems to be optimized for controllers...wasn't fun mashing buttons on my keyboard trying to figure out what was what.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is fairly well-made and put together, and some moments were genuinely suspenseful. However, I was disappointed to find out the story ends on a cliffhanger - and although there are clear signs a sequel was intended, I have seen no sign of the continuation, which makes me uncertain regarding the future of the project. So I recommend it as a standalone experience, and do not recommend it for those that don't like incomplete narratives. Hopefully we will see Act II someday.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely adventure with a little clunky controls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's cute. I feels a lot like an old PS1 game both graphically and gameplay wise. The ending is a cliffhanger but not a very good one at that. The controls are hot garbage! OOB the stem controller doesn't work and i couldn't get it working with my PS4 controller either. the Keyboard/mouse controls aren't well laid or very intuitive. I spent the first 20 minutes tweaking the control map on the steam controller and never got it working very well. I ended up having to swap to the kb/mouse and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was fun, I didn't have any problems with it. Maybe better controls on the robot.
