positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was fun to revisit this game a decade later after I originally played it at release, it still totally holds up. The game still has one of my all-time favorite framing devices for a game, with the whole conceit being the experience is a 1970s sci-fi B-movie with director's commentary running over it. It's equal parts silly, funny, and charming. Gameplay-wise, it is a totally serviceable beat 'em up, but the game is absolutely elevated by the visual style and commentary track. The creature…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/PQpABirmxu0 Despite the basic gameplay being pretty strait forward the narrative trappings of a director's commentary is worth more than a few laughs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#justbeatit The Deadly Tower of Monsters (PC) Solid action-adventure game where you're playing out a 70's sci-fi B-movie with a fictional director's commentary talking over gameplay. Good humor, great shitty costumes and effects add to the 70's vibe. Fun stuff! @polykillpodcast.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →I first played it on PS+ years before. Now, older and more knowledgeable than then, the game is very funny and very well made and written to be like a 70's movie. Little "easter" eggs like fishing lines and dolls. On a discount is MUST! I even 100% it in 9 hours with help from videos you can find online. It's a secret gem which deserves more love ❤
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished another game. An older one from 2016 called "The Deadly Tower of Monsters". An isometric hack 'n' slash with a vintage sci-fi aesthetic. It was pretty fun. The spoof director commentary humour didn't really land with me much. But it was a short game that didn't overstay it's welcome.
unlabelledView post →Charming, humorous, a bit strange, but quite fun. Had a pretty good time with this game, I love the style.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a short game that has a killer aesthetic, pretty good jokes, and simple and enjoyable combat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts out strong, but goes on to be the same really primitive thing again and again in terms of gameplay, which likely would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that the quality of the writing begings to diminish with every few minutes also. So, yes - seems great at first, but disappoints by taking a turn for the worse where it doesn't have to.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game Just the right amount of stupid in a 7th Gen package
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a blast! While the gameplay is very simple, and not particularly challenging, the setting and the comedy are top notch. Very few games actually made me laugh, The Deadly Tower of Monsters is one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Deadly Tower of Monsters is a hilarious send-up to the Sci-Fi B-movies of classic Hollywood, with an appropriately all-encompassing retro vibe. The whole thing plays like you're in a DVD remaster of an old sci-fi classic complete with funny 'DVD commentary' by the director and producer that lasts through the entire game, while you're playing. As one of three heroic protagonists you'll ascend an evil emperor's tower, blasting and slashing away at hordes of monsters, aliens, violent apes, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a real shame that I have to give this a no, because The Deadly Tower of Monsters has a lot of charm to it. They really, really went in for theme and they nailed it - everything has that schlocky B-movie aesthetic from 'stop-motion' monsters missing frame animations, constant 'mistakes' like boom mics swinging into frames, or off-screen 'errors' like a monster grabbing the MC being a giant arm on a stick. But unfortunately The Deadly Tower of Monsters just feels sort of miserable to play.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like most ACE games, what this one lacks in gameplay consistency it makes up in spades with the art direction and general vibe. The "game" as such isn't all that great, all told, but it's a fun romp in a unique setting. Highly recommended if you're looking for something kind of simple but with a lot of character.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thought I reviewed this already. Oh well, SUPER DUPER FUN GAME! That's really all you need to know. Price is worth it, and it even has local split screen coop!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →charming and cute with some fun ideas. It just quickly gets repetitive, and it also forces you to swap between characters to progress through the tower which you can fall down at any time. I thought the point of letting you switch between either the female or male astronaut was just player choice, but instead it gives the male astronaut a dedicated item that you are required to use to climb up the tower while the female astronaut just gets a shield you can kinda use in combat that is purely…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8.5/10 This is a great little game. A Gem from ACE. There isnt much negative I can say about this game. Its not that challenging, plays well, and has a great humour to it. One of the best that ACE has put out. It even has coop. idk why there isnt much to coop with this game, but this allows for a family event. parents can play with children easily. There is some PG13 language in a conversation about Richard missile and exploring Uranus and black holes, its rather tame but lewd; there are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice but inoffensive pastiche of 50s American sci-fi movies with terrible 'retro' filters and repetitive gameplay balanced out by a hilarious narration and many welcome references. If you know what the poster is imitating, then chances are this is the game for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a lot of charm, the story is imaginative and funny, but the gameplay is very lackluster. The combat is extremely bland, and combat is the bulk of the gameplay. All three playable character are identical except for one skill. In order to open a path, you are forced to backtrack because you play as the wrong character. The whole game felt like an overstretched Psychonauts level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Reviewed on January 23rd 2017) One of the funniest games of 2016 thanks to the director narrator's fourth wall breaking that is always aware of whatever you're doing in the game, even down to spinning around (commented on twice!) in an idle manner. What started as an innocent and funny examination about spinning in videogames turns into a heart-wrenching story of love and loss. It's a cute retro sci fi romp through movie sets and a gorgeously designed tower. Now ACE Team, give me Zeno Clash 3!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's kind of a stretch but if open world can mean metroidvania and God can be a sleazy 50s Sci fi director then The Deadly Tower of Monsters could be that game, fun anyway too store.steampowered.com/app/353700/T...
unlabelledView post →Fun single player game with lots of B-movie references and goofy fourth wall breaks. Yeah it's short but short games can be fun sometimes. Music's pretty decent, gameplay is decent. Overall a solid game. 7/10 would Liberate Gravoria.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Deadly Tower of Monsters is a quirky twin-stick shooter/top-down beat 'em up with a premise of being a DVD commentary of a cheap 50's sci-fi movie that was made in the 70's. And the game hangs a lot of its charm on the player finding that premise endearing. Because the gameplay is without a doubt rough-around-the-edges. As a top-down/isometric game with a mostly fixed camera that tracks and curves around the terrain, much of it being a circular deadly tower, movement and aiming can feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a good time. Maybe you will also have a good time. If you don't have a good time, you won't necessarily have a bad time. You could just have an okay time. And that's good too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend. It's charming, but not worth it. Lot of things I could say, but the one I'll mention here is the character switching. I was playing as the leading man named ♥♥♥♥. I thought to myself, maybe I'll give the leading lady Scarlet a shot. Immediately ran into a obstacle that only the landmines that ♥♥♥♥ uses could clear. So I ran back to the chamber to switch out and come back. Cleared the obstacle. Then right after that found a treadmill that I couldn't run forward on. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved this game. Mainly for the spot on send up of 50s Sci Fi movies that I imbibed on Saturday afternnoons on TV in the 70s. It is done with just the right tone and is a great parody. The thing is that the gameplay is very fun and the director's narration is a perfect accompaniment to it. You can turn that off but I don't recommend it. You'll enjoy it much more with that added layer of humor. It can be quite challenging at times and there is a pretty good amount of content here. Highly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is so much to praise here. To begin with, this is the most awesome tower you will ever climb in a video game, not in the sense of challenge (quite the opposite actually) but in the sense of how fun it is. Have you ever seen a low-budget janky sci-fi movie from the 50s and liked it? Did you ever buy a DVD for the director's commentary? What about playing the main actors in a video game while you hear the director commentary on the movie/game that you are playing? Nobody ever did this, it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you love B movie, then you gonna enjoy this one. Sure the camera are wonky and sometime makes me a bit wooz. But the humor is there, the commentator is good and the cast act like they're a bad actor. I love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure how I came across this game, I know I had it wishlisted for a while and when it got on sale I jumped on it. After finishing it, I'm very glad I did. This was a funny game to play through. The story of the game is quite hilarious. You are basically playing through a Sci-Fi B movie and the director is doing commentary for the DVD release. You play as ♥♥♥♥ Starspeed, landing on a planet of enslaved apes. To free them he must gather his crew to stop the Emperor who's main base is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the time of this review the game is 80% off, take advantage. The game itself is an old sci-fi movie, the gameplay is good, the graphics are very good, well done and beyond the gameplay the director's comments on how they made the movie are hilarious. A true gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The narrator ruin the game, its too much... its really too much. Me and my buddy had to close the game because we couldnt take it anymore, so thats a no.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With its unique humour and hundreds of references to B sci-fi movies The Deadly Tower of Monsters offers 4 to 7 hours of good fun depending on your play style. Albeit being a smaller product it is self-conscious of its restrains and manages it graciously. Very recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Deadly Tower of Monsters is an action-adventure title developed by ACE Team and published by SEGA that succeeds by turning the charm of vintage science-fiction films into an entertaining interactive experience. Instead of taking itself seriously, the game fully embraces the campy style of classic B-movies, complete with over-the-top heroes, eccentric villains, giant monsters, and deliberately cheesy special effects. What truly distinguishes it from other action games is its framing as a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is possibly the funniest writing I've ever experienced in a game. Great voice acting, great characters and enemies. The art style is quite nice. Gameplay, controls, and platforming is competent. It is pretty linear but the self aware comedic narrative is worth your time in itself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute action platformer, the gameplay isn't anything to write home about, it feels most similar to those licensed 6th gen games that were made for every cartoon and movie under the sun. The real charm of the game comes from its presentation, it's played out as a retro sci-fi film with new director's commentary as you go about doing things, complete with stop-motion-esque large monsters, dogs in costumes, flying props hanging from wires, it's all great. The final act is a bit iffy with the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it on sale, it's pretty good. The humor is top notch, although on the last quarter of the game it falls a bit on consistency. Also didn't like the lack of lines when you are trying to 100% it. Gameplay-wise, not the best. Felt that the weapons had some clear superior choices. Played on mouse+keyboard, controlled fine, albeit a bit floaty. Only had a crash on Survival mode (wave 13, I think), in 2 out of 4 times I reached it. I turned down all effects and it didn't happen again.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have yet to play a bad game by ACE Team, and this one is no exception. The visual presentation, the setting, and the humorous writing really make the game, elevating a somewhat repetitive beat-’em-up into a much more enjoyable experience. It kept my interest until the very end. Highly recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly a really good premise for a game being a directors cut of a movie but in game form. Sadly the actual game play part is rather boring and not interesting. Not a bad game but not one i care about to put anymore time into.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to love this game. The art style, voice acting, meta commentary, general 50s/60s sci fi cheesiness is appealing and I like what the game is going for. HOWEVER, the fact that the camera has to reset every time your character stops moving gives me a headache. I don't know why this is in the game. That is the deal breaker for me. Sidenote: the female lead is a baddie tho.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fun short game that is in fact a love letter to all those B movies that you would watch on VHS and after 20 years will try to remember what they were called yet still have some heart-warming memories about them. Challenging combat and tons of references, what else do you need?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →B-Movie Aesthetic: The game embraces a charming B-movie aesthetic, presenting itself as a fictional director's commentary on a classic sci-fi film. This unique approach adds a humorous and nostalgic layer to the overall experience. Narrative Style: The game features a humorous and intentionally cheesy narrative, complete with over-the-top voice acting and amusing dialogue. The satirical take on the B-movie genre contributes to the game's comedic tone. Isometric Action: Gameplay takes place…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TDToM was sitting at my library for a while and i finally decided to give it a shot. And wow! What a fun game, it's not too long, but neither too short, and it shows us something most modern games are missing: pacing and flow. Gameplay wise, the idea of climbing up a tower and defeating monsters, bosses and progressing trought to story is just amazing, it feels like a breath of fresh air playing something like this, it shows us the beauty of what videogames always have been: a simple idea but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The top-down fighting and platforming can be awkward, but it's still rewarding, and a special highlight - like landing your first portals in Portal, and like running loop-de-loops in 90's Sonic sidescrollers - is the experience of stepping off of one of the titular tower's ledges and freefalling. However, the main draw is the commentary, the worldbuilding of a fiction-with-a-fiction that is the behind-the-scenes of the movie this is supposed to be, and a surprising bit of worldbuilding for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →👍 I don't want to write a review for this game, but I do want to give this game a thumbs up to help the games ratings because I enjoyed my experience with it 👍 Ignore my hours played time, I clocked in about 4 and a half hours into this game before beating it. Solid game! Pretty good game made by people you can tell had some passion and love for the B-movies of yore. There was some pretty novel ideas into this game, with probably a bit more mechanics than you'd expect, while still being a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bit of a janky game, but it's got a fun premise and is worth the 3-5 hours it takes to beat it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Innovative graphics & fun game play with lot's of humorous dialogues made this game really cool. Would recommend to anyone who likes beat-em up's & old school sci-fi films.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game ended up much better than expected, If you like class B old classic sci fi / horror movies youre gonna love this the monsters are right on point
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very happy to discover this indie gem. Although it seems like basic platform/action-rpg, the game changer for this formula is the addition of B-movie narrative which is accompanying the player throughout the whole gameplay. Highly recommended when it's on sale if you are searching for a short and unique indie game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short but sweet little game mainly made for schlocky scifi and monster movie fans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main character is named D!ck Starspeed
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty short at only 5 hours and the ending is a bit naff, but he gameplay is fun and it provieds some good laughs. Worth it if you can get it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely a product of love. It oozes character and the banter between the director and interviewer is mostly enjoyable and sufficiently silly. I had a couple laughs along the way and the gameplay itself is also pretty fun albeit stale. It's not too long though so it doesn't overstay its welcome at all. Recommended especially for classic monster movie enthusiasts

One of my personal favourites is [The Deadly Tower of Monsters.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/353700/The_Deadly_Tower_of_Monsters/) I haven't got very far into it, but [Rustler ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/844260/Rustler_Grand_Theft_Horse/)is a pretty funny top down view GTA spoof.
