A lot of people are saying this is just a re-skinned basic card battler. I disagree. I'm a huge deck building addict and I've purchased almost all of the games in this genre. Although this game has a lot in common with the typical deck building game, it's different in lots of ways. Not only do you have the typical energy points to play cards, but the cards themselves effect your HP... every time you have to reshuffle, you lose half of your HP. A full HP loss means you have to discard one…

I have waited until finishing the game and reaching a 100% completion on the achievements to write this review. TDLR: this game is a waste of money. The current state of the game is pretty mediocre, the twist within the deckbuilder formula in a circus enviroment wasn't a terrible idea, but the execution of TAAC definitely was. I enjoyed it at first, but quickly realised the game at its core is broken. Your goal is to entertain the audience members until their ''hp'' bar drops to 0, on their…

Interesting premise which is different than normal attack card games but just can't stay interested even after trying to start over several times with different strategies. Frustrating mechanics such as lack of money even after winning all the shows, bias towards negative quirks, annoying audience heals or resurrects that prolong battles, no incentive to develop other artists when at lower level. Then this last time, ran into a bug that others already reported but not fixed. Decided to give…

Wow. Just... wow. I feel like a real DOPE for holding out on this game for so long. I was put off by some of the negative reviews, not realizing they must have been written by literal BABOONS! 1) The game is not difficult to grasp or obscure. Tool-tips are abundant and there's a tutorial. Hell, even a turn or two of trial and error clarifies things if you don't want to read. 2) Anyone who says this is a re-skin of Slay the Spire has either not played this game, not played Slay the Spire, or…

An original card game about a traveling circus. There is no need to defeat monsters here; instead, you need to entertain the audience. The mechanics are generally familiar from other card games. Interesting campaign.

After giving it an honest try, I lost my patience when seeing game mechanics bugs. The game requires learning a lot of different systems, but in the end, it did not capture my interest. I had trouble caring whether the circus performed well, it could upgrade the carnival tents, whether the actors' quirks were okay, or the right food was cooked. And, I am a big fan of the Darkest Dungeon game, which inspired this one. The Amazing Circus just has too many things happening, so many details that…

Alright, 13 hrs in traveling around the US and we gave PT Barnum, Teddy Roosevelt, and Queen Victoria the show of their lives. Some quick thoughts in no particular order: • The tutorial is long and even with that, the mechanics are not intuitive, this is a problem. In the world of game design, there is a spectrum of tutorials. On one end, you have no tutorial, just have players jump in to the game and have them figure it out as they go. On the other end, you have an excessively long…

A lazy re-skin of a bog-standard deckbuilder with questionable UI, poor explanation of mechanics, and insufferable writing. A generic re-skinned deckbuilder The game is basically a generic re-skin of the deckbuilder genre where: Performers = ally units Impress = ally attack Ignore = ally defense Focus = Ally HP vitality = action points audience = enemies Sneer = enemy attack boredom = enemy HP That being said, I cannot recommend this game even if you enjoy the genre because while it copies…

The Amazing American Circus is yet another CCG/deckbuilder/Slay The Spire type ripoff except it's a Nintendo Switch game and instead of the usual fantasy battle kind of theme, they find/replaced that with circus themed stuff. Because what amateur cardbuilder games really needed to compete with Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering is old western circuses and creepy clowns. But yes, quite literally they reskinned a fanatasy battler cardbuilder and replaced "attack" with "impress" and other…

Pros: Idea is great Music is well done Like the art Cons: Everything that is outside of pro You get a reskinned card game They tried to do a complicated game but it is just pointless management game The combat or show or whatever you call it boring after 30 minutes. I swear it has the same 2 or 3 animations no matter what you do. The trailer had more than this.. I'm just pissed about how an amazing opportunity went to waste.

I like the concept and the art style. The mechanics are woefully unbalanced across the board. The deckbuilding combat effects make no sense in the context of the game world. The macro-game progression is trivially simple. Needs a few months of competent rebalancing. I checked to see if the game was in Early Access still before writing this review because I expected it still was and I should be kind. Nope, it shipped this way. Terrible.

It seems that the developers themselves did not understand what they wanted to make: either a card roguelike or a resource manager, and in the end they mixed everything together and the result was a product overloaded with unnecessary mechanics that are boring to understand and play.

The intention of making this new style of game is great but it did not manage well. The aim of the game is entertain the audience with tricks by the several cards should provide but it does not happen. The game mechanic is obscured. You have the same 5 cards during the gamplay while the unsatisfied audience members makes your life as hell if you dare to work at that circus tent. It is impossible to satisfy them with 'impress' when you don't have anything else only 'ignore' cards in your hand.…

The art style and whole “traveling circus deckbuilder” concept immediately grabbed me, but the gameplay loop gets repetitive pretty fast. There are some fun card synergies and weird charm throughout, though progression feels uneven and runs can lose momentum halfway through.

I didn't like the game. It lured me in with the promise of fun, then promptly buried me under a pile of mechanics like a one bit too enthusiastic game designer who has just discovered complexity. If they were going for a Slay the Spire vibe, I’d love to know at what point someone decided that it's a genuinely good idea to generously pour some soul-crushing despair from Darkest Dungeon—because apparently, what every deck-building roguelike needs is a side of existential suffering. From a creative standpoint, this game is a great idea, and I love to see concepts like this executed. However, the mechanics of the game seem opaque, and its not enough fun to motivate me to learn them. I'm thinking it would have benefited from more play testing prior to release.

A good concept in need of serious polish. The one thing I don't want to be asking in a slay the spire type game is. "what do my cards do" "what is the enemy doing" "how did I just take damage" over and over again. The UI needs an overhaul before I recommend this to anyone.

I got around 5 hours into the game and had to complete a certain quest that required using cards in the correct order to open a safe. I was given a "buff" that increased the outcome of using my cards and made it impossible for me to use the right combination as they were altered by my "buff". I lost 3 times because of it and this game has the fun mechanic where if you lose 3 times in a row you lose your entire run and in my case, 5 hours of gameplay and progression. WTF!!!

Then again, I normally don't play games that are so wildly unbalanced with such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ tutorial. -1000000/10, do not recommend The game features make negative sense. The first show you do well in, you make really, really good money. From then on, even if you crank the difficulty, you make 60% of what your first show would have gotten you at max. The concept of the game isn't even that bad, but the game balance in general is completely whack. Bugged card interactions, an endless stream of "positive" "gifts" that just clutter up your deck, some performers are completely OP while others are borderline useless, etc etc, coupled with pretty mediocre writing and voice acting that tries really hard to be professional but just falls short. There are just a lot more better Card Deck based games you can use your money and time for.

Too many mechanics that add nothing but tediousness to the game, the theme - to me- is very boring -as personal a preference that is- it doesn’t add anything to the game, and despite the theme being rather original in gaming the game itself is simply an average or rather below average card game, changing the terms of abilities to match the theme does nothing to distinguish it from any other game, deal damage is inspire, absorb shield is ignore and so on. I bought this hoping that the unique theme would be expressed with unique mechanics. It's actually just an awkward and unpolished marriage of Slay the Spire's card battles with Darkest Dungeon's stable management. Because these mechanics are very obviously meant to model combat, the non-violent theme significantly detracts from the experience, giving the flavor of hackish and lazy edutainment or Christian games.

A blend of Darkest Dungeon, slay the spire. Very well made game. It is moderately hardcore, you will have to turn on your head quite often. And also the game will not make you bored, as it has a very good set of artists and opponents. Very roughly, you could say it's a Slay the Spire meets Darkest Dungeon circus campaign game— though much easier (and not quite as tightly designed) than either of those games and with its own charms. Deeply routed in the wild west period, it has all the expected touchstones of the setting. The game excels in having a wide range of performers, each with their own unique deck mechanics, and the most fun way to play is not to try and pick the best performers each match (yawn) but to explore lots…

It's 2021, and I need to know why we have racist Indian contortionists and Natives that woop every round (and also brought their totem pole to the show). Someone clearly put a lot of effort into this, but there's honestly too much going on. The Amazing American Circus is an amazing change of pace in what is usually grim, gritty, aesthetics with the mechanics. The issue is the aesthetic may be too on point, holding onto some really racist stereotypes that the developers should know better. The game play is pretty good for what it does, but it's hard to look past Native Americans portrayed as tomahawk-wielding, hoopin-and-hollaring, "indians".

Well done card based squad management game. Performers each feel very unique, and can change up quite a bit depending on their deck builds and individual quirks. The various performers synergize with each other in different ways to keep the fresh and interesting as you play. The only real negative is the voice acting. Its a mixed bag. Some of it is decent, but some of it is quite cringe-worthy. Would be nice if they included an option to turn off the voices.
