What people are saying

Overwhelmingly positive, praising deep mechanics and developer support despite some bugs.

Players overwhelmingly praise the game's deep tactical mechanics, particularly terrain interaction and class variety. Many call it a standout in the SRPG genre, with one calling it the best Strat RPG of 2022 thus far. The developer's responsiveness and frequent updates are also highly commended. [3][7][4][15]

However, some players criticize the story and dialogue as weak or nonsensical, and note technical issues like janky UI and bugs. A few also object to perceived political themes, calling the game too woke. [32][33][34][37]

It doesn't look like much but it's absolutely brilliant in terms of mechanics. I bought it for the campaign editor and thought I'd try the campaign that comes with it. The writing is good, the classes are interesting, most of the moves have 100% chance to hit, so you're spending your time looking at the terrain, the enemy placement, the things they and you can reach, the many interactions you can have with the map (so many tools/skills), rather than playing poker and fiddling with your…

It’s influenced heavily from other games in the genre such as Fire Emblem, Disgea, and various other classics. However, despite being a decent SRPG, inspired by these titles, TTL seems to…

In general I enjoyed the game mechanically, but I have to give this game a negative review because the story elements are such ridiculous nonsense it drags down the whole experience. You could remove all the text from this game and it would be a vast improvement. The main characters and leaders of the group are 14 year old girls. It doesn't make sense why anyone would follow these two or that they could fight anyone. Every character is a different race, it feels more like being in a mall in…

Do not be thrown off by the art style! This game is straight fire and terrifically written. I regret sleeping on t his game, but ultimately I place it as the best Strat RPG of 2022 thus far, even above Symphony of War. This game is a remake of Telepath Tactics in a new engine, recreated entirely using the TT: Liberated's Campaign Designer tool, and all I can say is wow. It's like an attached Strategy RPG Studio program with the purchase of the game, and I'm looking forward to making my own…

I haven't played very much of this game yet, but so far it looks like it's going to be a winner. I am posting this review mainly because the developer is AWESOME! He is super responsive on the Steam forum, and I really appreciate that. He answers every post and question, and has already released an update that fixes a couple things and adds some suggestions from the forum. On day one! Top notch, Sinister Design folks. Top notch! I will write a proper review after putting in some more…

My plea is that, if you play the game and enjoy, take a few minutes to share what you enjoyed and thought of the game by leaving a review. It is SO much more important to developers on Steam than anyone realizes, so please take that extra time, not just for this game, but any game you enjoy! While Steam won't count my reviews as "credible" due to having received games for free, *I* still count them credible. I totally DO understand why they have it implemented, but I wish there was a way of…

6.5/10 Janky and a bit buggy, but quite a bit of fun once you unlock random mode. I'm on my 3rd consecutive run and second random run and have found random runs to be some of the best tactical runs I've ever had in any SRPG, once I got past the game's significant flaws. Pros: - Music is surprisingly good. Many tracks are almost as good as FFT. I sit at deployment for an extra few minutes each time just to listen to the track - Visually appealing. I especially love the portraits - Combat…

I understand this game is made by a single dev, which is great, but you need to judge these things on their own merits. There is a good game here somewhere- the emphasis on terrain, moving enemies around etc is interesting (but been done better before, such as in Sting's Gungnir). Unfortunately, the UI is extremely clunky and slow. Lots and lots of clicks clicks clicks that needed to be tidied up. Rounds can take forever as you wait for the enemy to ponderously move around the map. There are 4…

Too woke to be any fun. Editing all that crap out of the game with the modding tools may be possible but it's frankly not worth the effort. Almost all the companions are gender swapped (female melee characters, male casters) with few exceptions and seemingly no way to change it - at least not as far as I had played. Can't get more diverse with the companions either. It's like the game was created by-the-book of how to add all agendas into one pot. It takes so much away from any kind of…

This game clearly deserves WAY more recognition than it currently has. Absolutely fantastic. The story is well written, with likable characters and intruiging world building. The music is catchy. The combat is star of the show however, it has taken all the best qualities of fire emblem: the inability to grind, optional objectives within battles (mainly hard to reach chests), large pool of recruitable characters (including talking enemies into joining), highly customizable difficulty, high…

It's not for me, but I can see the appeal. In general, I tend to avoid games where both sides go all at once. The reason for that is that "strategy" is basically "have everyone pile on one dude until they die." That tactic is particularly noticeable when the AI prioritizes it at the cost of all else, and when there's permadeath present. It's a competently crafted game, and it's a good indie game. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it, so I can't recommend it.

A decent turn based battler brought low by some bad interface and design choices. Inventory management and usage is a hot mess. Moving through the cut scenes is painful. Map design for the combat maps is well done. There are a good variety of choke points and elevated areas. Character sprites are easily visible on the maps and distinctive in look. These are the best aspects of the game. The art for cut scenes and dialogues is a mixed bag. The non-human characters look okay, but the attempt…

It has the makings for a good game, but it's very unpolished. From the dialogue and animation to the combat and tactics, the whole thing just needed more time to be truly put together. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game. Additional information pertaining to my dislike of the combat system as requested by the developer: There feels like a heavy emphasis on pushing and pulling enemies to manipulate the battlefield in your favor, but much of this seems slightly misplaced. For instance,…

An improvement over the original version, but the UI is incredibly clunky and the game in general feels unpolished. I could see this being worth $15 at most, but the asking price is too much when there are much better SRPGs on the market in that price range. If you're curious, grab it on sale. But I don't think this is really worthwhile otherwise.

Very good Tactics Ogre inspired combat. There's a huge cast of characters with their own backgrounds, classes and unique skills. Lots of environment interaction (building/blowing up bridges and barricades, Scorpion yanking people off cliffs with hooks). Liberated fixes a lot of the original's engine bugs and performance issues. Well worth playing now.

Unfortunately some small but potentially annoying issues arise with the engine side of things, such as stuttering here and there or lag etc., but nothing gamebreaking at all and not enough to ruin my enjoyment by far. In 2022, I suddenly saw I had received this one for free. That's 7 years after the developer received any money from me. An insanely unexpected level of support.

The technical state of the game is a complete disaster. It features primitive 2D graphics yet takes up 11 GB of disk space. I don’t understand how this game received “Steam Deck Verified” status. Even on the lowest settings, it stutters and can’t maintain a stable 30 FPS.

This review is a slight modification of my review on the original Telepath Tactics: Overall, the game is extremely similar to the first version in terms of story/mechanics, but has improved greatly. Compared to the original version of the game, Telepath Tactics Liberated, has addressed all the cons I had about the game in my previous review. This game is essentially a turn-based tactical combat simulator. That would be ok except you have to click through lots of meaningless and tired dialog to get to the combat. The combat itself is fine, but the interface / UI requires lots of clicking which makes combat tedious. If you want a good tactical, turn-based combat simulator and can overlook the poor graphics, interface, and sound and clicking through all the meaningless story text, this may be the game for you. So you found this game, means you're a fan of the genre. Yes it delivers as promised, battles are fun, I enjoyed pushing hulking golems into the lava and placing explosives on bridges. Character development is great and there are many hours of entertainment. The save system however is clunky, it's pseudo roguelike but not really, resulting in way too many clicks to load. There's a lot more utility there than it would seem at first. This is a nice classic-style TRPG, but it has some questionable battle design which is making the campaign a nightmare for me: you can't pass through friendly spaces and maps are very cramped (often just 1 space wide bridges or paths between trees, with 10 vs 20 battles). This means the strongest formation is often to pack your troops and rotate the whole pack 1 square at a time like a Rubik's cube to let everyone get off a shot at the lead enemy in the same turn. Meanwhile the AI units take…

I almost didnt buy this game, due to the developer responding to negative reviews. I get it, I'm an artist -- it's frustrating when people don't like your hard work. But you gotta just let that stuff not bother you, and have control over your emotions. Otherwise it's a real bad look. With that being said, the game is good. The story is not great, and the dialog is a bit rough. But the mechanics, and strategy is pretty solid. So I think it's worth a buy if you dig games like Fire Emblem.

It's a bit of a weirdly big leap between difficulty levels though, from "death loses 1 max hp" to "death is permanent", that's like a 20-50x penalty multiplier. I reached a level where I didn't quite have enough surviving units to fill out the roster, but it still went okay and I don't feel like I've been totally boned by permadeath, though it *does* at this point lead me to do a…

The original release of Telepath Tactics had some nasty bugs, including a slowdown that got worse the longer a mission lasted; it was bad enough that I couldn't finish the final mission of the main campaign. For Telepath Tactics Liberated, the dev went to the trouble of remaking the game in Unity to fix these bugs, add polish in some areas, and add some features. After completing the main campaign,…

This game has made me put down Elden Ring for an entire afternoon now. In case you need more info than that: Clearly a labor of love, this is a tactical RPG with plenty of depth. The gameplay is where it really shines, but that's not to say the writing, characters and plot are an afterthought. A tactical RPG with some brilliant environmental ideas, such as shoving enemies off cliffs, destroying bridges, and terraforming the battlefield are all fun. Sadly, the actual moment-to-moment gameplay is dragged down by a clunky interface, rough asset presentation, and frustrating random stat growths on level-up. There's a good strategy game buried in here, but it lacks the polish needed to make those long campaign battles truly shine.

Interesting game. I don't have a ton of time in it, but I do always like to give initial thoughts because most people judge a game within the first couple hours. I don't have other games to compare this to, per se. This game is primarily some story elements told via dialogue, some market phase where you buy equipment and consumables, and then a battle. There isn't any overworld travel like a typical RPG (not that I have found yet). The game takes place as a series of battles. You can save…

Cool numbers and stats. I like the way the stores are done in this game. They're few and far between, money is scarce. I like that. I hate RPGs where money becomes meaningless because you have so much.

8/10: Another solid turn-based strategy game blending elements of Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics. Good: + Multitude of characters and advanced Jobs* + The terrain is used throughout the game and the push/pull mechanic is not simply a gimmick. Many levels were designed clearly with these mechanics in mind and there is something satisfying about pushing enemies off cliffs or into lava pits. That being said, I would have enjoyed more AoE type abilities and/or more ways to modify the…

I could immediately tell that this game is intense, tactically complex, and satisfying. The combat feels powerful, the storytelling is decent, and the character diversity and quantity is immense. The main campaign that comes with the game is surprisingly long and well-designed, and the game even allows you to create your own campaigns via an in-game editor. These can easily be uploaded to the Workshop. Also, the developer replies to every bug report in the Discussions extremely quickly and…

Don't let the time played fool you (I left the game running overnight a couple times on accident), the game isn't THAT long, though bear in mind I played on Recruit difficulty. This was a good game. I played the original and while the mechanics are mostly the same, the graphics overhaul and inclusion of more story elements was a significant improvement to the project. For an indie title I was treated to a good story, a fun game, and a real gem in the genre. So let's go over the bad first,…

A prime example of the tactical depth that the Turn Based Tactical RPG genre should strive to have, Telepath Tactics is filled to the brim with good design choices and stellar level design.

Telepath Tactics: LIberated is a fun entry for any tactical rpg fans. There is definitely influence from Fire Emblem, but TTL can stand on it's own. The campaign that comes with the game is fun, with multiple branches, various winning strategies, and an original interesting story. Your environment and terrain play a big part in how you win or lose…

Solid tactics rpg game. A whole load classes and varied skills but not enough to feel bloated. It could use some QoL stuff and polish, but dev has been on top of the patches, so thats pretty good. Overall perfectly enjoyable game.

Nice game. Played the original (this is a 'remaster'/improvement, same campaign story) a little, but decided to wait for this version. Great dev! Active and listens and gave us kickstarters even this improved version for free. Cool turn-based tactics :)
