49 of 49 · most liked firstHi , i would like to start with , why the hell this game has such negative reviews ? Honestly for the price = quality of the game it is truly under-priced , i have seen so many indie titles that are not even close to Tears of Avia with double the price tag. The game what you can typically expect in a tactical rpg - there is nothing too special about the game, but also it does what the it promises pretty good. could use more customization options and more content, however the game is still…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, admittedly, I always had a soft spot for JRPGs, especially if they implement adorable characters. In this particular case, Tears of Avia happened to catch my interest and although it turned out slightly different than I anticipated, I still managed to enjoy this title. You see, I played quite a few JRPGs already so I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing when one of them turns out differently than the ones I am used to. Anyway, I jumped at being able to play Tears of Avia and was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If nothing else, it's a wonderful cure for insomnia. So many things about Tears of Avia are absolutely baffling. Why am I receiving equips with +4000 attack or int after the first few battles? Why is the map design so needlessly empty and drawn out? Why do my characters stop learning any skills or upgrades after level 32? What's the point of explorable towns when there are no secrets or otherwise interesting things to do, aside from visit the same 2 shops? Why am I searching for the titular…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34633003-Gaming-Masterpieces/lists/] Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? Nope, but it is still a recommendation to fans of tactical (indie) RPGs. The exploring and story part of the game is rather small, its core gameplay element are the turn-based fights. Starting from a small village (and later other villages/cities) you prepare your party of five and then teleport directly to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: I originally wrote this review on launch day, I have now completed one full playthrough and adjusted some comments to reflect this. A great genre aware indie game. If you love JRPG's then this will embody every trope, cliche and worn-to-the-ground charisma you've come to love in the best ways possible. With a selection of protagonists straight out of a pregen dungeons and dragons adventure, colourful and classic personalities along with bright and iconic designs (RIP Reina's spine)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an abridged version, the complete review can be found over here at [url=https://saveorquit.com/2020/10/31/review-tears-of-avia/]Save or Quit Tears of Avia has had a lengthy and not entirely trouble-free development. 5 years ago, back in 2015, they launched the game on kickstarter, and the campaign did not reach its goal. Development still went on and now the game has finally been released. SPRGs have been around for nearly as long as JRPGs, and the genre is quite diverse. Tears of…

Navigate the war between two large city-states, discover the secrets behind ancient long-abandoned cities and decide where your own morality ultimately lies. Nyanco's Review + It's an anime strategy & tactical game that features various driven decisions & deep branching narrative! IMHO, it would have received better reviews if it had been made into a visual novel adventure. Intro…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly the best part of the game is the initial voice acting (in Japanese) and the noises the cat makes in the town hub. But its all downhill from there. The town hub takes about 5 seconds to run across and nothing happens there other than a couple merchants. All game play is instanced, so you just go from this hub to various instances which...seem to all look identical and look like they took 5 minutes to draw, other than the library and the temple which are dialogue only areas. None of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Usually love these type of games, so was excited to try it. It seems to be mediocre at best.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game very much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's rare to find a strategy game that isn't beyond tedious and rife with opportunities to get yourself one-shot, followed nearly immediately by being dead (and a Game Over screen). Tears of Avia has a few bits of glitter that most lack: You can pick from a collection of five protagonists: Momoko the Cleric, Iris the Mage, Raul the Brawler, Reina, the arrow-slinging Ranger, and Kai, the would-be knight. Each has their own personalities, but mostly they're a collection of tropes surrounding…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is extremely lackluster. I went on a streak of completing map quests and I did not get a single dialog or interaction vs. the enemy or any cutscene with the story for a while. For an RPG the story is not that elaborated. It has failed to keep me interested. There aren't enough playable characters in the game. You have one of each class and you can build them however you want. You can make them tanky but you cannot diversify your party. You have alot of skills to choose from but you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm always on board with playing a new SRPG, but unfortunately this just isn't a very good one. The balance is busted, the story is simplistic, the gameplay is overall just... kind of clunky in terms of actually executing your turns, customizing your party is extremely tedious due to the way the towns are laid out and the fact that there aren't shortcuts for certain actions. For instance, if I want to swap someone into the party, I have to first talk to someone in the tavern, tell him to leave…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an Indie studio working on a tactical RPG, this game has hold up to the expectation of this genre. A lot of thinking and work has been put into this game. The graphics are good, combat style is easy to follow and the story is forming nicely from the start. Battle skills and gears can all be customised to suit individual builds. You can even read the books in the library and pet the cats in town! Probably the only thing that needs some improvement is the battle music, it can be more upbeat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls are a bit awkward, although the most frustrating part is needing to click a button multiple times every time you need to do something. Animations aren't great and the gameplay is meh. I also highly dislike that you only have two difficulties, regular and hardcore mode. I would like the increased difficulty as an option without resigning myself to a single save where characters can permanently die. Not a terrible game, but not one I can recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm giving this game a thumbs up, but really it's a meh. It's sorta like a B movie, you enjoy it because of how much of a mess it is. The models are alright, but the animations, story, and balance are pretty poor. You'll get gear that increases your damage to 4x the enemies max HP and get 5 levels per scenario. You can pay tons of gold to upgrade your skills by 1 level which adds like ~20 damage, when a new piece of gear will add thousands, so its pretty pointless to do it. If you enjoy just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the British study, CooCooSqueaky Games comes Tears of Avia, an interesting turn-based tactical RPG. You are the seeker, the chosen to search for the Tears, and you have the mission to collect them before the Ancient Demon’s henchmen take them to open the door to the Demonic Realm and take the world of Estera with a demonic army. The story premise is interesting, but you will advance eventually on it, with some events in the cities, and other before starting a fight, this game is not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks, feels, and plays like ass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually have really low standards when it comes to RPGs, but damn this game is bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is meh at best atm, mobs dont move if you not inside their a!"#, and they insanely spread out for no reason making it extremely unfun to guide you character to run around the map and constandly end turn to move very bad design, story is ok i guess nothing interesting about it, combat is also totally off the chart doing 20k dmg but then you have passive that reduce dmg by 1% also very off and the price is not worth it in any way, grap it on summer sale if you want it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is just pretty bland, this could have been a better game but there's no tutorials about how to deal with items and such. you have to figure it out by yourself. money is scarce in this game which you have to grind alot to get it in order to buy stuff in order to upgrade your spells and weapons. the voice acting, though in japanese only, its excellent though. but the whole game feels bland and mediocre. there are some animations visual novel like but that's the only thing that is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having first heard about this game durring a Kickstarter campaign a few years ago I was happy to see it finally released. I Don’t normally bother write reviews but felt compelled too after some of the negative reviews I saw for this game. The game does start a bit slowly. However, as you upgrade your party members the complexity and depth of gameplay becomes apparent. After a few hours I could not put it down. There is enough variety in enemy’s and backgrounds to keep it interesting. The voice…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as an rpg only fan since the NES days it's actually kind of hard to find a game i dislike as much as this one that i have been following and looking forward to for quite some time. I was on the fence and not enjoying it from the very start, all it took was a timely crash on a loading screen for me to fully commit to dropping it for a refund.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is bull$hit, is unbalanced, is grindy, crashes, graphics look PS1 era, skills are godawful, and if you play in hardcore enemies will randomly kill you thanks to some stupid overtuned reflect just by attacking them. DO NOT waste time or money in this $hit not worth your time or money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little game...perfect to kill time ^^
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think the damage (also the hurting action and effect) should be dealt immediately when I do the attack
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You ever get the sense of existential dread when playing a game - not from fear of mortality, impending doom or anything of the sort. I'm talking about the kind that sits in the back of your mind thinking "why am I wasting my time when I could be doing something far more productive?" That weighed heavy during my time with this game. The writing is inane, the story and plot cliched and hackneyed, and the balance is damn near non-existent past the first... thirty minutes or so. That last thing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review has been updated to reflect my thoughts after completing the game on normal. + 1. Nice character and enemy designs 2. Nice animations (you can skip them and enemy movement) 3. Good music and the main menu theme song is catchy 4. Varied skill trees kind of encourage skill experimentation 5. Loot from battles is worthwhile - a nice gameplay loop of finding better gear 6. Combat is streamlined (healed after battle and can quickly retreat to town) 7. When you equip a new weapon its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game with a variety of skills. The Japanese voice acting is good. Wish I could bind more actions to keys though as I prefer to play with a keyboard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It starts out fun, but quickly becomes repetitive and the balancing completely falls apart when you finish the tutorial. Then it becomes a mixture of you one-shotting every enemy in the game and roaming massive cities filled with unmoving NPCs scattered around in giant crowds with zero effort and running past useless buildings that serve no purpose.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's got a lot of barrier to action. There are several things in the way of your character doing anything and each of those menu and submenu choices has a high chance of being unresponsive due to bugs. It's a crap game. It's always been a crap game and I waited three more years to play it in the hopes that they had fixed the basic features of the gameplay. Nope, not even the bones are solid. It's crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fantastic game, would highly recommend to fans of the genre! Keep it up, I love what you guys have started here!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is completely unbalanced. You get random pieces of gear that have hundreds of points in stats. For example, my starting weapon had 20 attack. Found a ring in the second battle that gave my 200 attack and 400 hp (each character can equip 4 of those). Now i'm one shoting everything and nothing can get past my wall of hp. Skills don't matter because you stats are so high. The only thing you care about is "can it multiple enemies and how far can it reach". In my two hours of play only one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have roller-coaster feelings about this game... Gameplay --- honestly everything is such a mess. There's no side-quest detail for you, you have to discover and guess how to complete it on your own. Combat system is too simple, there's little strategy to fight in each battle, you just walk and spam AoE skill on enemies then heal when necessary. There's no point for leveling up after level 30ish because you cant learn anymore skill, and stats gained are very low compared to stats from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love S-JRPGs but this just gets a no. It's barebones in every aspect, easy to break and pretty uninteresting. To add insult to injury the movements are clunky and the whole UI is the ugliest i've seen in a while.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its one of the best strategic base game that i played but it still need's to improve the customization part of the game but it's a great game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Voiced + Colorful art and flashy moves - Combat too slow - Items not even close to balanced 5/10 Not really good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like these kind of games usually. But not this one, this is the easiest game I've ever seen due to complete unbalanced gear you find randomly and commonly not even 1 hour into the game you deal 50 times more dmg than any lifepool of any mob can take. It feels like you cheated with some nasty trainer everything to 9999 and it's just dull boring at this point. Like you start with a weapon that has 10 Atk, and then 30 minutes after you started the game weapons and accesories with like 1500 Atk…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This looks like a premium game in the preview videos, but there are a lot of people saying they don't like this game. I have played for several minutes and the only thing I don't like about the game so far are the long slow loading times. The game seems to autosave instead of letting you choose when you can save, and I guess that could be annoying sometimes. This game has good graphics, but the animations aren't as good as they could be and the battles are a little bit slow. This seems like a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, it's buggy, but I like the effort put into it, especially the Japanese voice acting, and the world design and lore. I'm still playing, I'm actually addicted to it, but I need to get past a certain level without glitches occurring. I love how you can literally stack OP equipment onto an underlevelled party member and have him/her wipe the field and shoot up many levels.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright so I just finished the game after 27.9 hours and all I can say is it's crap tbh. Only reason I went through it is because I do not like not finishing a game once I start the game. It's like a kickstarter project that scams people into investing then ran away with your money never to been seen again. It's obvious the devs left this game in a very sorry state it's in. The towns are dead with a bunch of copy pasted sprites to make it appear a town is bustling with people in it. Only 1 or 2…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice game, turn-based combat fights and it's fun to get all the objectives on each level getting 3 stars there's a bug where you can't play anymore and you have to reset the level, which is quite frustrating. And the turn-based combat is often too easy since you one-shot everything if you build strong but I still had a good time playing it, not great, but not bad. Wouldn't pay €15 for it though
Aburrido.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love me some tactical JRPG, but I can't really get behind this one. poorly written/translated to the point of only being passable in English terrible stat inflation where stats go from tens to hundreds, to thousands in a matter of an hour of play time early levels "bonus objectives" requiring things like "hit for 12,000 damage" that aren't possible until much later in the game almost no real choice in party formation, and choices for character advancement only important in the short run no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →沒有什麼劇情 戰鬥動畫跟對話框淡出淡入很拖時間 數值平衡很奇怪,不是幾千幾萬就是個位數 戰鬥動畫很不明所以 3D做得很爛
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Average at best, not worth a down, but neither a up, it's feels outdated in almost all aspects, it could had been a great game in previous generations, for these days, it feels unpolished and mediocre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game feels like they threw numbers at the wall and hoped they stuck for equipment in this game. Before the 2nd tear I had ATK of 4K on a ring that combined with what the weapon gave me and my other accessories had me doing 10K damage per turn. Quit when the game locked up on a boss battle after I dealt the death blow as the game was just so random I didn't care anymore. One zone you may be fighting just 10 enemies and the next 40+.
