Cross Tails is a beginner-friendly Tactics RPG that has a plethora of customization for the asking price. It shares a lot of similarities with the Mercenaries Saga games (acronyms, abbreviations, combat mechanics, etc) which makes sense because those were developed by Rideon Inc. After finishing, I can say that this game has slightly more going on compared to the Mercenaries games. What does it offer? It features a flexible and interesting job system with several classes to choose, mix, and…

Nice overall old-school tactics game in the same style as the Mercenaries series, but the English localisation is really bad. There are some typos and mistakes in item names and skill descriptions that make some of them hard to understand. There are many skills with strange names like "♥♥♥♥♥♥" "Shrinkage Method" or "Long Earring" (which all don't do the things you'd think they do). Also apparently the stat Hate Regeneration is the opposite of the stat Hate Recovery, but nowhere is it…

I love SRPGs but I can't recommend this game. The story is really generic and either poorly written or poorly translated (likely both) to the point where you're better off skipping the scenes entirely. It's almost like every conversation is not a real conversation but a narrator trying to give you information. For example when one of the characters initially tells the main cat girl they will be joining her he basically says 'I'm your childhood friend so I'm going to go with you'. It's not…

Works right out the gate on Steam deck. Seemingly has a deep well for customization (3 Classes per character Main, Sub, and Character specific), variety of equippable passives, and "gem socketable" equipment. Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, etc. fans will definitely find something to like here. Translation is shaky at times, and some enemies will not move/act until within range of engagement. Glad to have picked it up, and looking forward to scratching that Tactical RPG itch.

As of 18 hours in on hard the game just lacks any tactical elements I want in a strategy game. The only optimal strategy is to just form a death ball. No chokepoints, no way to defend your weaker backline really, not even a cheap rock paper scissors style of class counters to abuse really. You form a deathball and pick off the AI one by one, two by two or their overwhelming stat advantage just murders you. I want to like it. There are some things like the class system which I really like,…

I read that this game had a bad English localization. I hoped it was negligible and I could enjoy the story regardless. I hoped the adorable character designs would carry it. What I did not consider was how the localization would affect learning the game. My prior tactics experience is mostly Fire Emblem. Having to learn the deluge of extra mechanics by trying to decipher whatever English they used in their so called "manual" rather than a properly paced tutorial mission completely put me off.…

I've completed both character's story on hardest difficulty. I don't like how the camera angles and settings are not remembered for each and every battle. There are no tactics in this game, even at max level 99, BIS gear, and max skills, your team would wipe to a lvl 35 story fight. They just make it stupid hard and it doesn't make sense because it doesn't add value to the replay. If you want to play this game, just wait until it's 75% off.

The lack of mouse support is infuriating and the keyboard controls drive you insane after just a few seconds. Nothing is intuitive. I'm sure the game is amazing, I just can't control the damn thing. If they add a point and click interface I might rebuy.

I am a veteran at tactics games and generally play on the highest difficulty. So far maniac mode has been a decent challenge. It feels well balanced and tactically challenging without being unfair. The story Is cute and enough to hold my interest, but not so long as to distract from the gameplay. The art is charming and services the game well. The music is ok. What is there is quite nice, just not much length or variety, so I do eventually turn it down and listen to my own. The biggest…

If I could rate neutral I would. I suggest get this only on a sale, if you have an FFT itch that needs scratching. Most of the other reviews here are on point. The story is very mid. It's the age old story of cats versus dogs as written by middle schoolers. There was one line in the game that said no one remembers how the war started and it's probably as dumb as kids fighting on the playground. The story felt that way too. If you've played FFT or Tactics Ogre, then you know exactly how…

This is a solid turn based tactical RPG heavily inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics. I definitely recommend it at either the list price or even better on sale. Its not gonna blow your socks off, but its solid and enjoyable. However I DO really recommend gamepad as the keyboard controls are not great and mouse is not supported, which it DOES say on the main page under system requirements. The story really hasn't grabbed me and the characters are ok, if you're looking for those then I can't…

Based of the Mercenaries games but seems to offer much more depth. Runs fine on Steam Deck and I haven't seen any of the Kemco Pay-to-win bullsh*t thus far. I put a lot of value in games that are challenging, and playing on HARD mode thus far has been satisfying. I'd say to go ahead and pick it up if you're on the fence about this game. It's shaping up to be a solid tactics game.

This is one of the few games where I actually enjoy grinding out skill points and class levels. Its also interesting enough, that although I'm not too horribly far in, I actually want to start a second play through on the other side of the story. Also, perfect for steam deck and my chaotic busy life where I don't have enough time to play games lately. Do a level before bed or work. So a bit glad I can save after each mission and that I can just put my deck to sleep if I don't have enough time…

First off I was gifted this game from a friend who thought I would like it. I was able to beat the game in 10 hours. As a fan of turn based strategy games this one felt very underwhelming. I would give it a 4/10 at best. I love cat girls too so this game seemed like a slam dunk. I thought that the music was really bad and you hear the same thing over and over and over again, it just feels very stale. There are also a lot of classes without art for them so it sucks that I get one cute cat girl…

A fun experience for players longing for a Tactical RPG. Cross Tails plays like the Mercenary Saga series with borrowed systems from Final Fantasy Tactics. The character customization isn't convoluted but is varied enough to give each character their own unique feel. There are main and sub job options and while there aren't a lot of jobs, with changeable faith buffs, you can have the same job but it plays entirely different based on the build. There are also achievements that unlock rewards. To…

6/10 I enjoyed all the Mercenaries Saga games, so I guess it's no surprise that I like this as well. Nice little strategy RPG that doesn't really innovate, but is still rather enjoyable due to depth & group customization level. Pros: - Between gear, subclasses, training, strategies, stats, deities, skills, etc, the game has a great amount of depth. Definitely the game's greatest strength by far - There are tons of overpowered combos to discover and almost limitless party combos since you…

this game does a lot of things very well, but sadly the few thing that are done badly, are bad enough to uninstall before finishing it. - good system, classes, maps, characters, and as far as i got the story wasn't bad. - badly balanced, especially in a couple of maps, and very, very grindy after the starting maps. needlessly so. really a shame.

So long as you just want a solid TRPG experience, this game should leave you satisfied. As many others said, the localization is pretty bad, which kills the story and also makes the skill descriptions a bit weird and difficult to understand. The gameplay is deep enough to keep you from getting bored but simple enough to not feel overwhelmed. Get the game when it's on sale.

This game isn't well translated, but it is really good. And while it isn't well translated, it's certainly playable. There's a massive number of classes in the game, and unlike FFtactics, where you can only dual class, you can triple class here. Units have classes, tribes, and growth dispositions. There's a simple to understand but dynamic crafting system for weapons and armor. Maniac difficulty mode is actually difficult, especially at the beginning. It's very unforgiving of mistakes. It's a good game. Definitely an improvement on the "Mercenaries" series in just about all respects. I followed it for a while, and recommend it based on the overall gameplay- the combat is deep, allowing for rich builds and tactics, thanks to a 3-way class system and an equipment modification system. The campaign has a branch, and to get the best ending you need to replay it. I haven't done so (yet, at least), but might, some day. There's set story battles which tend to add another "skirmish"…

Cross Tails, is a nice and cute strategy game. You have 2 stories to play, both of which have a normal route and a "True Route" which serves as a sort of New Game+ The game is never too challenging, but also never too easy, allowing you to choose how you play, the difficulty options also help adjust it to your playstyle. If you are only interested in the story, the game has a Autobattle-Mode which *can* solve most chapters for you but will struggle in the final boss fight. After…

I just finished 100%ing the game on both male and female routes as of writing this review. Gameplay-wise and feel-wise, this is the closest it's ever come to the general feel of Final Fantasy Tactics, for me. This is the kind of feeling I've been hunting for in the past 25 years or more. As I said before, there are two routes with completely different stories taking place in the two rivalling countries: Ranverfurt (doggos) and Hidiq (cattos). the game mechanics are competent enough, character customization is in depth, and there are plenty of ways to spice up gameplay with variety. my only issue with the game is the english translation is rough. im sure the story would be really good but the lackluster translation makes it kind of hard to read. also delayed death is a really bad skill to give your enemies. instant death sucks and makes losses feel like a cop out when the opponent already has 40 units for every one that you have.…
