Guild of Ascension is a strange game, to say the least. It is both turn-based and timed-action and that combination will definitely not suit a lot of players. For people who can look past that and get used to it, the game is played out in 3 biomes and multiple floors in each, with the subsequent floors unlocking as you play through the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found out about this game by chance from Steams 'Popular Upcoming' section and I am so glad I did. This game manages to merge Action RPG play with Tactical turn base gameplay. TLDR : PROS : - Lots to unlock and experience - Engaging gameplay loop with many customization aspects - Flexible Fighting systems - Clear and informative items/buffs/events etc. - many unique monsters CONS : - menu is totally silent, music starts as soon as you start the game - Mouse and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful pc controls, beginning with a starting options screen that doesn't even fit on the screen, and doesn't respond to mouse clicks, so if your monitor isn't the right size you get to guess what settings you are fixing. But it doesn't get better from there. The controls are not pc friendly, its clearly built with consoles and steam being an after after afterthought. clunky and obnoxious to navigate. And all that would be forgivable if it was a decent game. it isn't. The "real time"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pretty good game with some issues. The Good: I love the the core gameplay of this. The real time turn based system is a lot of fun. While not really similar, it reminds of older games like Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter. I'm always here for variations on the classic turn based and am glad to see this addition. After the tutorial the game does a pretty good job of easing you into it. The first floors are basic and make sure you understand the core gameplay before involving more complex…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tower 1 was fun.. but after reaching tower 2 the game ends.. it is not possible to complete tower 2 like WTF!!??
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not gotten super far at the moment, but it feels like a decent slay the spire like game that just has some shallow relics at the moment.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played several demos of the game in the past and it is great to see the game finally releasing ! The gameplay is THE highlight of the game: it is a grid-based tactical game where you move your characters in real time during their turn. It is quite original, and the implementation is solid. I've been surprised with nice design ideas which makes me want to play more (i.e. enemies' behavior and retaliation, challenges, puzzle-like bosses...) The difficulty ramps up fast, but there are nice…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring game, same enemies, same bonuses every floor, you got all your stats reset between floors. Bosses are dull and beyond easy level. Plus you got a bug when sometimes if enemy counter proc, at your first hero turn, then next turn starts immidiatly without thinking phase. Cant tell you how frustraiting it is. Oh and if you are going top boss room without spending exp, you'll get to choose if you want to fight the boss or you want to spend your exp points, and when you choose to spent points,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little bit thin, but I keep playing so it's doing something for me! The short turn timers tilt the game more into action than tactics for me, but it's pretty satisfying when you do manage to execute a plan.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main draw to Guild of Ascension is the gameplay. They managed to combine action RPG and tactics into a cohesive and entertaining experience. The character portraits have a unique art style. However, some things such as menus and the hub world... or town, in this case, seem a bit bland. The game is relatively short, although some additional challenges within each floor add some replayability. I would love to see the developers add more content to the game, such as skins for the player…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The big draw for me is the very unique and fun combat system. It's turn based but you act out your moves and attacks in real time as a timer ticks down your turn. It makes for a surprising amount of tactical depth each turn on more challenging encounters. After fights you can get random perks which can give your characters stat bonuses or passive skills. My one gripe with this is that most of the perks don't feel impactful enough to drastically change a run like they would in other rogue…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good points : Game is pretty good, the art is amazing and it's a cool mix between strategy and action. Not too heavy in strategy, allowing for relaxing rushs, not too heavy on action so I don't fell dumb smashing buttons. Ennemies variety is interesting. Bad points : I feel like sound design is missing a bit of love, especially around feedbacks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute little Roguelite game, perfect for afterwork short gaming sessions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice concept for an inovative turn based action system. Plays best with a controller, and has, so far a nice amout of content and a decent difficoulty. Clear and enjoyable presentation as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so many bugs, i got the game on a discount but its hard to play when 60% of the ui doesnt work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice idea, but not enough meaningful content I enjoyed my time playing this, but the repetitive nature and lack of content makes this a: 'wait for a sale' game. The gameplay is similar to tactical turnbased games like "Into the Breach" or "Advance Wars." But what makes this game unique is that you only have ten seconds to plan out your moves, and then you actually control the character for x amount of time either moving, attacking, charging your shields (called dodge in this game, but it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PS4 controller works, but the game doesn't care as there's no setting for using its control scheme - the only one is the default Xbox layout. Really bad for a game that itself says it recommends a gamepad. Refunded!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Tactics and real-time combined with a Slay the Spire style progression. If you like your rogue-lites and trying out different skill and weapon combos then this game might be for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🟦 Decent turn-based gameplay 🟦 Convenient cheat mode option available 🟥 You start with the same 2 units and never get any additional members, new skills/builds or skill upgrades which makes the game repetitive and very boring quickly 🟥 Terrible character design 🟥 Friendly units should never counterattack each other, it's stupid. They also can't pass with other for some reason 🟥 Completely uninteresting story, characters & dialogues 🟥 Audio of the game is terrible 🟥 Difficulty spikes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a nice idea but feels underdeveloped. I bought this years ago, and I feel like it never reached its potential
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Guild of Ascension looks like a simplistic grid-based time-based RPG, which it is, but as I said, simplistic. There's only four shops, each with very few items, which arguably get worse with every upgrade. The starting weapons give +50, the next level is 55, and the next is 60, so the percentage per level gets lower and considering the later enemies can literally one hit you if you're not careful, there's not that much of a difference between the first and last weapon, except maybe the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has some potential, but is WWWWAAAYYYY to simple to be recommended. Better play anything else. 15/15 achievs, at least it's a short game. Only 12.000 "walked" tiles achiev is stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun yet very short roguelite tactical game. I've 100% the game under 10 hrs and I'm not even rushing. Wait for a sale because the game do get really dirt cheap.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big fan of this game so far. The way it blends real-time and turn-based strategy is a real treat that I don't see in many other games (Eternal Sonata comes to mind). Solid roguelike as well. In the settings, there's a damage modifier for dealt and received damage, something I wish more games had for extra customization. To top everything off, it's got an amazing soundtrack (sound design too!)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im just giving some love to this indie game. The art is great. No bugs. The meta progression is extensive, but it feels tacked on. Like your skills are lost after each dungeon and the only thing that carries over is the gold. Which would be fine. But the unlocks are kind of underwhelming. Just more minor % here and there. Combat is unique. I dont care for it. You are on a live timer that doesnt leave much room for strategy. Just rush up to enemy and hit them. Turn Based would have allowed more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really cool game, I like the mix of real-time and turn-based, it bring something new to the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I see some potential for sure but there are a few things to note. 1. I wish the hits felt a bit meatier. Even hitting something with a big hammer just feels like a pillow fight. 2. Difficulty ramps up a bit TOO fast. This might just be me though, Floor 1: super easy, move towards enemy and hold X. Floor 2: I hope you enjoy dying! A simple yet very high skill ceiling game that's, funny enough, best played in short bursts. Playing too much in one sitting can be grating due to how little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Guild of Ascension is a hybrid tactical roguelite developed by WhileOne Productions and published by PID Games and Dear Villagers that attempts to merge turn-based strategy with real-time action mechanics inside a fantasy tower-climbing framework. The game centers around a mysterious, ever-challenging tower that players must ascend floor by floor, battling enemies, gathering loot, and gradually strengthening their guild between runs. Rather than committing to a purely tactical RPG or a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, I do like it a lot, specially the concept it has. ..I do have a very big issue that would inhibit me form playing me any more... The character models are literally nauseating... This is of course a matter of taste and does not impact the gameplay at all! Great game, would recommend. If there are any plans for a second game which will come as a sequel, please avoid these graphics, nobody wants to play as a half-clown. (either make them "badass" or literal clowns, at least…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool game! It combines turn-based games with action by giving you a 10-second turn in which you can do your attacks, walk to safety, refill your dodge (shield) bar. The time-stat plus all other stat can be individually upgraded by leveling up (each run the level resets but you get better items, companions and charms) It was a little short with 9 full map runs to go through, with each map full of fights and other things, finished it in around 9 hours but I had a really good time, get it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game bills itself as a hybrid between "strategy" and "action." In reality, it is no more a "strategy" game than Trials of Mana, or Kingdom Hearts, or Masquerada, or any number of ARPGs. It also bills itself as a "roguelike," but in reality, it's all about grinding to get more powerful weapons to take on more powerful levels. You know -- like in any basic grind-based JRPG. So with the roguelike and strategy elements gone, what does the game really have to offer? ...Not much, unfortunately.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game when you figure it out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fun little game to get on sale but lets clarify a couple things. They have 3 weapons with 5 levels to each (6 if you count level 0 starting weapons). All levels of weapon do the same thing just with bigger numbers. You unlock them with gold after completing a quest for that item specifically. Arguably no "materials" or "crafting" involved. Which is fine too. There are 4 floors to this massive tower. 5 if you count the training outside the tower. The turn based combat is...…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This falls into a weird spot. where it isn't a bad game and they introduce a novel idea of having a time based turn for a turn-based rogue-like. however, it is simply too short.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Guild of Ascension, a tactical RPG with rogue-lite elements, has been announced for a January 2022 launch on Switch. #GuildOfAscension https://gamesense.co/game/guild-of-ascension/news/discuss/guild-of-ascension-coming-to-switch-this-month/
unlabelledView post →Dev is right, it does get more interesting. I lost interest too quickly. A nice mix of different privileges is what this game lives off, but that will only start later in the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of fun, the mechanics between the two characters is challenging and allows you different play styles according to what weapons and boons you select. Higher level floors are challenging and fun. Enjoyed collecting different charms and animals even though i was only able to collect 2 before beating the game, This game would be one of my top ten Rogue like if more areas and characters were added. The limitation of 2 characters really doesn't allow for any replay value unless you need to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game just now beat it hope if there is more floors and more difficult.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game, art and music are awesome. It is nort perfect yet but hey it is a one man dev team ! How impressive is that. bioutifoull
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent game. It has very good gameplay mechanics, mixing turn based with real time on a timer. It makes things quite frantic while simultaneously giving you a moment to breathe and consider your actions. The good news is that you can do quite a lot with your actions, whether it be straight damage, or manipulating the field to reposition enemies for environmental damage, or even just straight using enemy counters as weapons against other enemies. You get some really chaotic…
