55 of 55 · most liked firstI suppose this is meant for people looking for an Advance Wars game. I don't remember much of AW, played it but wasn't that much into it. I went into this just looking for a decent mech turn based game and did not get that experience it from this. The units might look like mechs, but they lack any gameplay related to the units being mechs. For example, there is no mech customization, not even changing weapons, and no localized damage, or even performance degradation due to damage other than…

Is this game a masterpiece? Maybe, it is definitly a good looking sci-fi hex-grid turn-based strategy game in anime aesthetics. You command small teams of mechs over small maps, moving and/or using their weapons and abilities every turn. Terrain gives boni and refineries generate income to purchase additional troops. There are three types of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A gripping enough game. UI is very smooth, better than many high budget games, but do constrain your expectations for the overall experience. I would say it's probably not worth the full purchase price at this time, even for a mecha fan, due to the sort of repetitive nature of its gameplay and nothing special in the plot department. It gives the impression of not a whole lot of development (Possibly understandable with such a small devteam) followed by tons and tons of polish (Unusual for such…

A turn-based mecha strategy battle game created by Raredrop Games and published by PQube. According to the developer's mention in the store page, the graphic visual was inspired by the Japanese anime style in the 90's, but it seems to be well ported in western anime style and has a good mood in the actual impression. Moreover, gameplay is more exciting than expected. Game Experience There are 3 modes in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game for nearly 5 hours and to be honest it's repetitive. I enjoyed it when it first started but 5 hours in it drags to the point even the main story doesn't keep it going. Nothing really changes much and each map is pretty more rinse and repeat with no real changes. Maybe 41 missions in it gets better but I haven't seen any indication it will. It's not worth £20, maybe if you ever see it at £10 it's probably worth it but I would expect more from a game for this price range.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's a Gameboy Advance #pixelart mockup of Warborn, a fantastic game I worked on in 2020 by @raredropgames.bsky.social - I love that tiny GBA wide screen
unlabelledView post →Absolutely terrible! Extremely buggy, simplistic AI, TERRIBLE UI, unbalanced, and uninspired story. I love the graphics and the look of the game. It really reminds me of old school games and some anime, but you’re really better off just playing an older game, or at least a different one. At most this game is worth $1-$2 but really just skip it. (There are many more examples, I’m just listing the ones that bothered me the most. This game isn’t worth the time to list them): Bug examples: If…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game on Steam sale 30% discount for $17.50. It was worth it. It had a very good 41 mission campaign package with interesting story. I did like the characters. The mech design and gameplay mechanics were good. Yes, there were some issues regarding variety of units. Lack of Air or Naval units. I would have love for the pathfinders to have capture ability and even an assault mechs that could hop over mountains. Also, enemy commanders do not have commander mechs or commander powers. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually only review a game I completed or a game which doesn´t have an ending, like it is endless or online, however I am not sure I will play this to the end. I love the idea of a simple and clean turn based mech game, really great idea, however it falls short from there. Story/narrative: Yay for a female lead on a mecha game, but sadly she goes for the whole cliche of superpowered/enhanced pilot which I highly dislike - they try to say it has counter effects to her health but meh, I like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Audio: Good music, some of the sound effects are lackluster. Some weapons make sad little "pew" noises instead of something more imposing. Visual: Mostly good, the art is a bit off sometimes. In game, there is little distinction between buildings for cover and buildings to capture. Also, the first faction you play is red, but the UI always has blue for your team's map icons and dialogue, and red for the enemy's. The other factions have other varied colors, why make the first group you play as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring. I can't say the game is bad overall. But you are fighting not against robots, not against their AI, you are fighting against unlimited spam of these robots.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been having a lot of fun with this game. Part of it is living out my mecha anime fantasies from when I was a kid, part of it is because I enjoy turn-based combat and strategy. The gameplay is pretty easy - there were a few missions I wasn't great at but I've yet to fail one - but that's okay (I've been using this mostly as a game to unwind with after work.) If you like the Gundam series or Advance Wars type games then I'd definitely recommend checking this one out :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Follow our curator for similar games https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/ Gundam like TBS + skirmish + 40 missions = Pick 1 of 4 unique commanders to battle. Call for reinforcements to capture resources and bases. 3 types of attack and defense to mix up the strategies. Rock-paper-scissors type mechanics with variety of unit types. Charge up SP by capturing resources, which will aide in calling reinforcements to your base. The tactics is a bit more streamlined for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you miss Advance Wars or wish it had mechs, Warborn might be the game for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw4XRX42cOI My video will give you the best idea about what Warborn is like. For those who played Advance Wars (I didn't), you already understand the concept of spawning in units to conquer a turn-based map. Warborn uses a hex-grid, and attack lines go down a line of hexes, making for an interesting (and sometimes annoying) twist. This isn't a turn-based strategy about specific…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WARBORN is a Nintendo Switch game that somehow also got put on Steam (in what feels like an afterthought). It's an anime/mecha themed turn based strategy game where you give instructions on a small hex map to a bunch of painfully generic looking Japanese giant robots. Okay. There's some plusses here, like a map editor, multiplayer (but no players, we'll get into why later), and, well, the game "works" if you try to play it (but not many did). One important note is that even though this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warborn: Variable Armour Command stimulates long-forgotten memories of a 90’s pop culture phenomena that swept over Japan and the Western Hemisphere. Giant mechanized robots fighting to the death has been a staple in the animated entertainment industry for decades, as the rise of Transformers, Voltron, and the legendary Gundam series captivated the minds of children and adults alike. Warborns’ salute to the fanbase is a refreshing experience that compels you to appreciate a genre that felt…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not too shabby turn-based strategy game that might just be a bit too easy. I love the unit variety, and gameplay is pretty streamlined I would say, while still providing enough depth in my opinion. It's not very complex, which I for one welcome very much. Of course there are some rough edges here and there but nothing major. Except there is one big elephant in the room: Playing through the campaign it never really got difficult, even though I changed the difficulty up to "Hard". The enemy AI…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turn based strategy with some mild RTS elements. (Managing SP and CP to spawn guys) The art style is super 90's. The story is very generic but certainly serviceable. The combat feels good when you are winning and bad when you are losing. If you are into this type of game, this is a good one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1svbexGhvo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun romp into turn-based combat, much in the vein of Advance Wars or the more recent Wargroove. There is a much more unique dynamic here though given the hex-based nature of the levels, meaning you really have to strategise and plan your route to victory. Lengthy campaign that I'm 7 hours into and about a third of the way through. The art-style is very anime. The game's biggest asset is how polished it is - rare on day one, even rarer for an indie title. I personally am not a huge…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily recommended for fans of turn-based tactics, Advance Wars, robots, and strategy. For the amount of content it is worth the asking price, and a steal on sale. Most of the issues are just nitpicks, the gameplay is great. Also worth checking out Sunrider, Wargroove, BattleTech, and the Front Mission series if you haven't already. +Visuals, art style, animations, UI +Music +Difficulty options +Variety of options overall +Mechs +Turn-based tactics battles +Variety of units and special skills…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like a very simple turn-based strategy game with mechs, warborn is for you. The 2D graphics look like japanese robot cartoons from the 70's/80's and I rather like it that way. The AI is stupid as mud even after the september 2020 update. Unfortunately every military strategy game I know of from the last 30 years or so is more complex and challenging than warborn (think Battle Isle 1/2/3, crescent hawk revenge, java mechwar, android uniwar etc.). Warborn definitely is not worth the 20…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With over 40 missions, some replayability, a great map editor as well as multiplayer, Warborn offers a lot of value for the price. It's a solid turn based tactics game that's also super fun and accessible to players of any level. The 80's anime art-style only makes it that much better and visually appealing. Just wish it had a split-screen local multiplayer mode. Check out my full review here: https://gameffine.com/warborn-review-pc-mecha-tactics/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 most of what you do is move 8 guys from 1 side of the map to the other past choke points - combat is ok, wish each unit could do more. for example this unit can move extra far on this terrain or gets 2 plus def when on city. how about a unit that could toss other units across the map - cant trade attack for movement - cant level or upgrade anything - price 25$ + map editor
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd give this game a C- overall. It scratches the tactical itch but definitely get it on sale. Missions are very repetitive and toward the end become a grind to even complete. The story exists but isn't fantastic. All that said, I appreciate what the devs were trying to accomplish and there are some genuine fun moments in this flawed game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Gorgeously* polished, but basically big people in armor shooting each other. It doesn't seem to have the depth and diversity of Advance Wars, Wargroove, or Into the Breach in terms of units, movement types, and strategies.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played through the entire campaign on Normal mode in around 16.5 hours and loved every minute of it! This is the sort of game that the world needs a LOT more of. It's a welcome fusion of so many great ideas, ranging from 90s Masaya games, Starcraft, hex-based strategy, and Famicom Wars, among other things. In particular, I would suggest that fellow fans of Masaya's 90s games will love Warborn. There are lots of parallels, whether intentionally or not, between Warborn and Masaya's 90s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great, and I can't believe how few reviews it has. It's like those older Gameboy Advance games like Fire Emblem or Advance Wars but with a twist, using mechs instead of tanks or infantry. There are four factions, each with unique hero mechs and abilities. The game also includes a map editor for creating your own skirmish games. The campaign and story are quite fun and reminiscent of the IBO Gundam universe. The balancing could use some work, but overall, this is a really fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Takes an Advance Wars style foundation and builds upon it. Mechs have different resistances to various types of damage and performance doesn't degrade as they loose health, which emphasises the importance of buffs and debuffs. Every unit has three abilities, many on short cooldowns, and ranged attacks usually only have line of fire in straight lines along the hex grid which makes positioning important, especially when units can physically screen an ally. Each commander has a bunch of buffs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Superb turn-based strategy game. Perfect balance of story, beautiful art, inspiring music, and challenging gameplay. I perfected the first few levels and after that things get a bit harder. I'm going to go back and perfect them all eventually. It's extremely satisfying when you think you're going to fail but then work out a way to destroy them all - normally involving the Railgun . OOOoo it's so good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warborn is a great introduction to the Advance Wars-style tactical strategy game. It has crisp anime-like graphics, a boppy soundtrack, and enough variation of units, tactics, and factions for multiple playthroughs. It also has a custom map editor and multiplayer if that's your jam. I wouldn't say it's the deepest of this genre, other Advance Wars-style games have more tactics or units etc..., but I bet you will enjoy the time (and money) you'll spend it on it. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can feel the devs did their best, but this just doesn't manage to be fun to me. I mean, if I had played it on my GBA SP in the 00's maybe I would've liked it, but on a PC in 2024 it's just clunky, boring and overshadowed by a vast and much better competition. I got to the second to last level of the first campaign, maybe I'll at least finish that, but frankly it's been a drag. It wasn't really a waste of money since I got this in a bundle, so I spent like 3€ for it, but it sure felt like a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play this game on hard mode if you think it's too easy, it's really not that easy anymore.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a turn based 'mech combat game on the surface, but it plays very much like the old GBA Advance Wars or SSI's Panzer General series in reality, which is no bad thing. You get to play 4 different commanders throughout the 40 odd mission campaign, each of which has their own perks and power skills. There is also a fully functional multiplayer option, but don't expect to find many players around these days. You can still setup a game easily enough with a steam friend though. I got this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found Warborn to be a pretty fun, if short, TBS game. It reminded me of Advance Wars but with mechs and a hex grid. It took me about 12 hours to complete the campaign and another hour or two finishing off achievements. There is a skirmish and multiplayer mode as well. ✅ Looks nice, runs well, easy to learn mechanics. ✅ Four different commander/leader characters with different unit bonuses and hero mechs. ✅ Ten unit types, three damage types, units have different damage output and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is fun, but can get a little bit repeatitive. Def try if you are into mecha games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to know more about the lore of the game, it seems interesting. 90s Saturday morning cartoon aesthetics, turn-based strategy. Could use some more unit variety
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hmm I don't mind it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really enjoyed the gameplay, i think its highly strategic and has lots of depth to explore - the characters are cute and the story is decent i didnt enjoy the constant clicking i had to do for everything so, focusing on a unit, moving, defocusing a unit etc..so much clicking, if that would be changed into a more user friendly way i think this is an absolute rare diamond and i like that its inspired by advance wars without copying on it too much and putting its own spin on it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game on a whim during a sale, not really knowing what to expect. As you can see, I have over 50 hours in it now; I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is, and it deserves a lot more recognition. Warborn is a turn-based, hex-based strategy game, very similar in gameplay to something like Panzer General or Warhammer Armageddon. The game has a forty mission campaign with ten missions per faction, and an overarching story that ties them all together. Online multiplayer is mostly…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI is much too dumb. Combat maps are much too small.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warborn is a bit of a hidden gem of a strategy game. It features mech combat, with each mech having 3 skills, usually relating to different weapon systems. Each mech has armor rating for each of the 3 weapon types. Attacks always hit, which is something I love, no random misses. The difficulty can be a bit unbalanced. I played on hard mode, and most levels were fairly easy. But some were pretty difficult. The final mission seems impossible on hard mode, I had to switch to normal mode to beat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent turn based tactical game. Though I don't think this is worth the full price tag. I got this at $5 on sale and I think that's a good price to spend about 15 hours in a game. The strategies required for the campaign aren't exactly mind blowing though. You can pretty much brute force each level. Yeah you'll lose a lot of your own units but there's a bunch of missions where you'll have to sacrifice them anyways. Each commander "ultimate" doesn't actually do much to turn any sort of tide…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1) Story It's boring and bad. It's mostly simple talk betwen main commander/protagonist, general type character who is rank above and few grunts while nothing interesting is happening. First 10 missions are the most poor exposition dumps about lore and setting I did see in a while. Just skip whole conversation cutscenes. Litteraly nothing worth of your time is happening for majority of the game anyway. 2) Visuals and music Graphics and art is alright but you will get tired of those boring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game for anyone who liked advanced wars. The mechanics are similar plus the CO actually takes to the field in this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I'm surprised this game isn't more well-known, and doesn't have a higher positive review ratio. This seems like a great game for anyone who likes both mecha anime, like Gundam, and turn-based strategy games similar to Advance Wars. I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there who are in both of those camps, and would enjoy this game as much as I have so far. Admittedly, I haven't played really far yet, so I don't know if the game actually gets frustrating later on (as some…
