I really wish there was a "merely okay" button for reviews. The game is by no means terrible, but it feels very much like a product still in Beta, rather than a "finished" game. The Pros: The artwork is gorgeous, the overall plot isn't bad and very 90's RPG in it's story arc. The tactical combat is clever in premise, and fun under certain circumstances, though falls down quite a bit on the execution. Like Divinity: Original Sin, it rewards you for wandering around and poking your nose into…

Inspired by JRPGs of the 90s, [url=https://noisypixel.net/grimshade-review-pc/]Grimshade had me curious. While Grimshade started out to be a fun experience in the beginning, sadly, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. It’s made clear after a few hours that it would have been better suited to release on Steam Early Access instead, as its current state is a complete mess. This is disappointing because Grimshade has the potential of becoming an interesting game with fun turn-based combat…

Very good turn based isometric rpg by a small team in russia. Fantastic art style. Cool story. Innovative fun turn based battle system. Great price. Only negative is the occasional technical hiccup (pathfinding is occasionaly janky and there are a few spelling mistakes in english - it's a russian game.) I highly recommend it.

It is sad to say but the game is a mess for now. Non stop savegame problems text bugs. sometimes the game makes you fight the same fight twice in a row. If you realy want to play it wait a month or three until they patch it up.

Game is Fully Playable, no game-breaking bugs, however it is missing bits and pieces. Poorly optimized mechanics(Fights with more than 10 characters makes the game stuttery). There is no way to avoid 1 of your characters getting damaged when facing 6+ enemies. No advanced tactics. Missing dialogues. Farming and time-consuming but abusable loot rewards for money, which is essentially useless(money). Talk to barkeep for infinite rewards. Healing is laughable(fast travel to haven).…

Well as you can see I persevered for 30 plus hours, but now I have to sum it all up in one word. GARBAGE. I say this because I found myself in a situation where I had to escape from brann after a fight in the throne room. I have no health pots left, all my characters are zero or near to zero health, and there is no way to recover that health without potions. There are no merchants now, the path is linear and the battles on the way are unavoidable. Bottom line is that my team insta dies and I…

Didn't get a chance to devote more time to the game, but already want to share. Very interesting plot and characters, it's funny to see how their relationships evolve. Incredibly beautiful locations, I want to study them more thoroughly (maybe there will be a zoom option?). The main menu changes as you go through the game (I like that little feature so much and it is very beautiful picture !!), as more and more characters are running on the download screen - really neat! I really liked the…

I really like that game. It is indeed a little slowpaced in case of the fighs and it is a lot to read, but the graphic stlye is very nice. What I really miss are voiced lines. but it worked for many other games like Baldurs Gate too, so it is okay for me. The combat is cool, I'm having fun right now - a lot of. ^^

It doesn't appear to say this anywhere on the store page, but this is only Part 1 of the game. I discovered this upon reaching the end of Part 1, where it says that Part 2 comes in 2020. Had I known, I would've waited to play it. It isn't clear if Part 2 is going to be an update, DLC, or entirely separate game. I enjoy the story, which has some surprising plot twists, as well as the characters, art, lore, and music. For these reasons I'm recommending the game. Although, it can sometimes be hard…

Grimshade is, in a word, a mess. There are seeds of good ideas that can be seen in the world writing and combat, and the art and side quests are mostly good. However, mountains of dry writing, numerous translation errors, bugs, performance issues, and the overall lack of depth to the combat make the experience drag. What's truly a shame is there is clearly potential in the game, but it's choked out by all of the issues it has. Full review if you like reading:…

I just love the fighting mechanics in this game. Every fight is different and you have various options in your disposal to approach the fights. The character progression and skill development is completely new and I have not come across something like this before and I loved it. Awesome boss fights and you have to figure out the strategy to defeat each of them. Story is very nice and it got me hooked, there was never a point where it felt boring and predictable. A must try game.

Grimshade is an RPG inspired by old school 90s JRPGs with an enthralling story, vivid environments, and a great turn-based system! You play as a champion of a fallen city looking to save his friends and defeat the evil threatening the world. The world setting reminds me of games like Pathfinder & Pillars of Eternity. The combat is a mix of a lot of mechanics such as an overheat system, character placement, turn manipulation, and more! Definitely check this game out if you have the time!…

It took me more time to write bug reports than playing the game. After 90 minutes of playing and writing bug reports, the game stopped working. (If you want to call it "working" before.) Unfortunately, I backed the game in Kickstarter, so I cannot reclaim my money. So, thanks for this lesson.

Engaging turn-based combat that requires a good deal of strategy, especially later game when you have many choices for party member and equipment selection. This Indie CRPG has a good story with plenty of humor, although the game 'ends' just when it is starting to get really good (I'm really looking forward to chapter 2 which, apparently, will be released in the near future). My first completed game took just over 20 hours of 'play time' but with learning about my party and my enemies,…

Grimshade is a love letter to the JRPGs of the '90s. Trouble is it's one that wasn't as eloquently written as it should. The weak-to-decent presentation cannot be fixed, of course, but there's some hope for this, if the developer ever heavily rebalance the tactical battles. Mild spoiler warning...but its worth the read. There are few things there are absolutely abhorrent in games and one of them is immersion breaking... nothing takes you out of a game quite like it. And this game, which is set in a fantasy universe, has a character spouting the word "foodie" and "phrase have a good one" like bloggers in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cafe (granted this took place in a cafe, but still!) I have not only deleted this game but told steam to hide the fact that I ever bought this junk.

I liked this game, but it's unfinished. The combat provides a lot of options for characters and abilities, but many of them are not worth using due to how difficult the battles are. There are many bugs that while didn't massively drag down the experience, were bad enough for me to mention. Still, trying to figure out the optimal way to win each battle was entertaining, and the plot kept me interested the whole way though, although there are very few plot threads remaining to be answered in a…

I honestly have no idea why this game managed to get as many negative reviews as it did. Grimshade worked flawlessly for me, though it can be a tad bit demanding RAM-wise (I have a 12GB RAM but I'm also running several other stuff in the background so the game has a lot less than the full 12GB to use). Within the 2 hours of playtime, I had not encountered a bug either. Plus, the game has a pretty interesting storyline - this is coming from someone who has not been overexposed to JRPGs. The…

Great game, great graphics, great gameplay, great artwork, great idea. Poor implementation. The game crashes on cutscenes causing a quest to be incompletable. The English translation is so awful, it's hard to understand what's being said in some conversations. As of right now, the discord, forums, and discussions are dead. Game is dead. Sad.

This was a bit of a tough call, as there were moments I was ready to quit. But finally made it through, and tentatively look forward to the sequel. Pros: 1: If you hang in there, the story gets kind of interesting, w/ most of the reveals near the end, though. 2: If you like turn-based, tactical RPGs, this one will scratch that itch. 3: The slowly expanding roster of characters you can use for battles brought a lot of variety to the table. 4: Decent mix of enemies throughout the game. 5: The…

This game grows on you. At first, it appears that it is going to be somewhat of a dumbed down version of a TBC game, but that is not true at all (so keep playing passed the first 20 minutes!). While your movement is more limited in combat than the typical TBC game, the depth of combat is fairly complex, making battles pretty satisfying. The enemy abilities vary quite a bit and require constant review in order to prepare for battle accordingly. The character abilities are just as nuanced, making…

Visually the game is great, except for the fact that antialiasing doesn't actually work at all. Unfortunately it's unplayable as it crashed right out of the gate. Literally you can't start playing it unless you manage to get it to speed over the crash point where you blitz past some scrambled video with garbled audio, then you can play. But the next time you hit one of these corrupt transitions, it just crashes again. Apparently this has been an issue since release and never fixed, but also…

TLDR: I gave this game a thumbs up as I think anyone who likes turn-based RPGs will find this title interesting so long as they don’t mind reading a lot while they play as there is no Voice Over for anything. Grimshade is a party-based RPG with a turn-based combat system that takes place in a world at war. There are monsters and magic, in the form of a substance called Ether, and anthropomorphic creatures you’ll encounter, some that will fight alongside you throughout the story. Overview…

I really wish this game had some voice acting. For a live streamer like myself, there was quite a bit of reading to be done. I mean, I tend to talk a lot regardless, but my mouth was actually getting sore narrating the entirety of the game I played. Now that my griping about that is out of the way, let's get into it! So Grimshade isn't good, but it isn't bad. The artwork is good and the setting is quite unique. i don't think I've come across a world where anthropomorphic animals coexist with…

In this video I take a look at Grimshade a part-based RPG adventure with turn based combat. It's well made with a rich story. The turn based combat is fun and the game play has events and story progression which makes for a more entertaining experience. It's a good game but it's 9:45 in before the game play starts, before this is story establishment which might have been better if it was a little more concise. Watch the video to see what the game is like..... https://youtu.be/EnwCVEjRsXI…

I really wanted to give this game a chance, but after almost 15 hours of game play, i am just bored and frustrated. The game is well done, good graphics, it appears to be bug free. But, it lacks any of the elements of a true RPG. I am not even sure that you can call this an RPG, because it is completely linear, and there is no coustomization or choices to be made. Everything is scripted, including combat. I've seen some other reviews complaining about how hard combat, but if you understand how…

For those who like a story with strat games, you'll enjoy this. There were several fights were you had to have a strat besides the bosses which were fun. The only warning I have is that this game was made with the intention of having a part II so the game abruptly ends. Other than that there are several fights towards the end, in the swamp, where the battle is mostly bright fuchsia making some fights difficult. And the typos killed me -.-
