I've been playing them so long that it's becoming hard to play one without seeing all of its flaws; it's become hard to just enjoy a platformer. In the tradition of Super Meat Boy and Celeste but far more approachable, Super Mombo Quest is a delightful little platforming adventure. It took me ~10 hours to 100% (extra time is from messing around and idle time), but there was satisfying sense of progression the entire…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off - I really need devs to understand that a lives system is not a game design system - it was a monetization system meant to steal quarters back during arcades and then continued on to pad game time during early games when you couldn't make large games. It has no place in modern games, especially ones where you are expected to die a lot. Outside of that, this is for the most part a fun game. It's not really a metroidvania, just a precision-platformer with abilities it is very linear.…

Past games: Warlock's Tower (as half of the team), Super Mombo Quest, Irmão do Jorel and others (as a game audio person). Check out midipixel.com for more!
unlabelledView post →The game is a platformer with a retro feel. It has upgrades which you can buy which improve certain aspects of your character. At first from watching the videos I felt it would be really hard to advance, which really isn't, but it has a lot of room to improve your gameplay. So while you will be able to finish the game, if you get good it's the kind of game which feels nice to speedrun if you are into that kind of stuff. I like it's graphic and controls which are quite responsive. If you want a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: I received this game via a Giveaway on Reddit. When I started playing I felt the tone of the game was kind of "silly", but then I realized that the game is kind of a self-aware game that enjoys the contrast between "silly" and "Oh, you thought I was joking?". That aside, the gameplay is super fun. Honestly, I was kind of expecting less from it, but I'm so glad I can actually say I'm addicted to it. It starts slow and very hand holding and very "cliché" even, but then... Then it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked this one up on a whim last weekend. After a month of playing horror games, I wanted something a bit lighter in tone. I was looking for a metroidvania, but not one full of stats or tons of gear. I wanted progression, of course, but I didn’t want to start off feeling like a wimpy baby for the first few hours of the game. All I wanted was to explore a map and find some treasure with some really fun movement mechanics. After a little bit of hunting, I found something that I thought fit my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was blast of nostalgia for me, made me think about playing original Rayman on PS. It seems very innocent for a while but that last world wont pull its punches. 7/10 Follow my Steam Curator for more: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43514354/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute, casual and very well-done little game. Controls are amazing, the story is sweet and the worlds are creative, beautiful and interesting. Its overall quite easy and relaxing, but there is a slight difficulty spike towards the end. However, there are so many different combos of abilities to help you out if needed. I loved every minute and wish it was longer! I bounced around the different worlds without any goal other than to enjoy the movements and different forms, so the actual game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent 2d platformer with a touch of metroidvania. Everything is just so polished and it's really great to see an indie studio put out high quality games like this. Great controls, jamming soundtrack with some awesome instrumentation, beautiful pixel art, interesting hub world with some fun side activities to earn money completion stuff and achievements, fun imaginative bosses, and a fantastic list of achievements. Unfortunately for me, the final area is brutal as the precision…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me be not that bad to you: It's basically really one of the best precision platformers. But the the precision is questionable towards the last world. Or it was never good enough to survive this last levels. Or the level design is ......... thrown into the game randomly. It's getting obviously buggy with some controls in this late game part, the punch-up (stone Mombo) ability is not accurate enough to beat it, same for the electro ability. also enemy choice, placement, level design,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little platformer, really well done technically, and there is a challenge ! I've played for about an hour at the time of the review, but i will finish it ! Would have been game of the month in Joypad in the 90s :) Edit : finished it, and i really loved it, this is so well thought and done, some levels at the end in the final world are really tough when you try to get all the diamonds. Really really fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't live without "MOMBO COMBO!!!!" anymore. Cool game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is pretty polished and it starts off nice enough, but very quickly it turned into feeling like a repetitive chore. -The level design is bland and the metroidvania movement abilities are only used to gate progress and aren't really used in any interesting ways. Very quickly every room and new "area" of the game just starts to look and feel the same just with a different aesthetic. -Difficulty is insanely low, advertising this as a "precision" platformer is extremely misleading. You can…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ High dynamics Cute animation It's difficult enough not to get bored. No dumb level ups It's interesting to clean up maps - Uncomfortable levels with teleporters Not all characters are equally useful 8/10 If you like dynamic platformers, then take them! Surprisingly, it's a very cheerful platformer with a slight touch of metroidvania. There are different characters with different abilities, the difficulty is adjusted depending on the purchased items. If only there were more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Your character is a caricaturally dumb purple blob with an attention disorder, and that's kind of how you're expected to play the game. There's barely any challenge, no precision required, and brute-forcing through everything just works. Nothing's remarkable about the level design, enemy patterns and bosses, just a ton of shiny stuff in every direction that hides a pretty bland world. A shame, really, because the game looks good enough, and the platforming is very fluid. This could have been…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recomendo demais!! Muito gostoso de jogar e a trilha sonora é incrível!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For someone like me who became a gamer primarily via 16-bit action games this is simply a delight. Big, bright spritework, a story that doesn't take itself seriously, lots of shiny stuff to collect, and that special finger-painted touch of the invitingly surreal that only a developer composed of dyed-in-the-wool fans of the era could successfully capture. While there were some areas that took a bit of perseverance for me to get through, as other reviewers have noted this isn't really a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great metroidvania with a lot of soul that doesn't overstay its welcome. I recommend it especially to those who thought other MVs were too cumbersome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really good introduction to difficult platformers, it's not that difficult at all but it has the genes of it, with multiple power ups that makes the game easier significantly. cute art and music, good game length and a reasonable price!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a precise landing game, requires coins to open gates to proceed, which are usually earned by eliminating all the enemies in a room, so you cannot rush through but be careful and map out a good route. The boss fight is not difficult, but passing regular rooms can be a challenge, as you can get hit twice before restart, but the landscape could be tough - Most of the time I wasn't killed by an enemy, but saws rotate around a platform or the spikes. I played 2 hours and didn't complete the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun little metroidvania with a ton of focus on the movement. It takes a lot of inspiration from Super Meatboy but ti still manages to have carve an identity of its own. It took me about 6 hours to 100% the game and it was 6 hours of pure fun. Big recommendation!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mombo Quest is a small and delightful platformer that just feels great to play! Mombo has this great sense of speed, with fun abilities flowing well into each other, like dashing and walljumping and slamming - the Kirby inspiration is clear. But a platformer's moveset is nothing without levels designed for it, and Mombo excels here as well. It never gets too difficult, and encourages you to use every move and ability and your disposal. Even so, Mombo's shining star is its combo system.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice cute fun game with good music! It resembles Super Meat Boy a little bit. Easy to play and from the little i played i didnt find any flaws whasoever. Really polished with a few surprises in the mix ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gameplay is very very simple - you just jump on enemies and gather crystals. I found sound effects to be annoying, especially the protag voice, which means there is even less in the game for me. At least the controls are fluid and responsive. At this point it could easily be a mobile game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, awesome pixel art, awesome control and wonderful music!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super solid platformer with great feeling controls and mobility. I really appreciated how each of the abilities were versatile in how you could use them and not just sanctioned off to completing the occasion puzzle. Looking forward to seeing what the devs do next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun ,It's cute . That's all i need. just don't get it when you have exams (or like a life) .,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo for Super Mombo Quest during one of the Steam festivals on a whim. Being that I'd never even heard of this game I was surprised at the quality. The full game lives up to the demo. Movement is fast and dynamic. The main gameplay loop is quickly clearing interconnected rooms while maintain a combo meter. This, along with collecting gems (think Mario coins) rewards you combo coins which unlocks new areas. Along the way you get character upgrades that give the game a light…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems inspired by super meat boy but it plays by it's own rules. Super responsive controls, if you die it's because you suck, visuals are too colored for my taste but they do look good, music is nice, and the sounds do their job. The gameplay is really fun, especially if you can do it really fast. Recommended if you like the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mombo Quest is a great little game that creates a unique experience. It feels one part modern Metroidvania and one part retro arcade game. The art is simple but charming. The controls are tight. The game is relatively short and isn't super difficult. I beat the game with all achievements in a little over 6 hours. It's hard for me to put my finger on exactly what makes this game so enjoyable, but it simply strikes the perfect note of being fun. If you like platforming games, this is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, this game is a breath of fresh air from all those rpgs that i have been playing. The pixelated graphics are really good and the music is enticing. Overall, a fun game to pass time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great platformer, awesome 16 bit style graphics and gameplay, a new classic. Unlocking costumes and abilities when vanquishing bosses gives this a 'one more level' vibe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun game a few dificulty spikes but very fun to play and grind for a bit
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game really delivers on a lot of fronts. Metroidvania, action, beautiful pixel art, OST etc... Im having a blast. it does get challenging at times and thats a good thing. Def a recommend if youre into the genre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty 2d good platformer with nice movement. It's categorized as a metroidvania, but it's just individual challenge levels connected in sort of a world. You can do some out of order if you want, which can change how to tackle levels if you have certain abilities or not. It also has parts you can't get past until you have an ability, but mostly it's limited to stuff in the same world you get the ability. Anyway, it's short and sweet. Nice movement, a few levels that were actually a bit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →? forces you to repeat the level a lot to perfect it (gaining stars by collecting all the jewels and killing enemies on a a timer) so you can't simply just "go fast" ✘ going back to last checkpoint many levels back and losing jewels after losingy your lives - this is an absurd level of disrespect of my time from a seemingly fast-paced platformer
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not bad but not great either. The MV aspects aren't great, the map gives way too little information. There is a life system which is pretty stupid for a MV game and makes 0 sense. You get coins for upgrades but everything is WAYYYY too expensive, I played the game collecting most coins and I was still only able to get like 10% of upgrades. Each level is pretty much the same, kill enemies and collect gems for a coin to unlock later levels. The game is relatively short for a MV as well.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Mombo Quest is a 2D Precision Platformer about Mombo, a hero creature on a quest to restore the land and free it from the evil army. The game offers a metroidvania world interconnected zones that you need to progress through to find the boss of each zone and defeat it in order to acquire new powers to help you traverse previously inaccessible sections. The game combines both precision platforming while also maintaining the metroidvania element which is really a unique perspective. Super…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked it. It peaked my curiosity so I tried it. Went through the whole thing in 5 hours and had a somewhat addictive time for the whole time. Played in about 2 hour chunks. Balanced, easy to get around. Easy to understand. Some nice challenge throughout the the time. You learn fast and the game difficulty curves a little with you as you progress.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well-balanced and fair with a lot of variety in the environments. I got all 345 coins and all achievements - something I don't usually do.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a good game but you have to know that the difficulty of the final level is much higher than the rest of the levels (Final boss isn't as difficult as the level). If you're like me you don't consider yourself an expert at platformer games then it will take you about 20 hours to finish the game and get all achievements. Having different moves assigned to the same button got me frustrated sometimes since i would want to do something and it would do the other (for example you try to do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good times, had fun <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controller is Definitely required to play, It'a super nice game , you get perks which makes the Gameplay even more Fun. Played for an hour straight. Going to invest more time into it. Super fun. Thank you .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was entertaining and just a joy to play it throughout all the experience! It can be mechanically challenging for those that want to get every Combo, but it's not required to. Overall a really nice purchase and game experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is all about movement. Moving around in this game feels so fun and fluid, it feels really rewarding to master the movement and go fast. The game builds off of this really well and encourages you to master the movement, while also being completely accessible to play at a slower pace. If you like games with fun movement, can't recommend it enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every once in a while, a game pushes the platformer genre in interesting directions, and Super Mombo Quest is one such game. At a glance, it's hard not to compare it (favorably) to Super Meat Boy, but this title actually adds a lot to that formula, making it stand on its own. There is not really a traditional division of levels, as each room of the overworld is a level in itself. This allows for a lot of experimentation, and it feels fun to constantly be exploring and finding secrets at the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing game! don't have a lot of time to play due to exams, but what I went through were good to play. will make sure to continue it and hopefully finish it! the music and effects are nice, and my little sister to watch when I play the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really fun game, especially in terms of movement. I would recommend if you like Metroidvanias or platformers!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My thoughts so far are that its pretty intuitive even using mouse and keyboard. Controls are simple which is great! The game also provides some difficulty while remaining aesthetically pleasing ,like the idea of checkpoints and the mombo combo as well! Should be fun to speed run once you get more used to the gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic platformer, designed to be accessible to both people who are already skilled and those with little experience. I look forward to the speedruns of it :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun platformer, although it still needs a bit of tweaking. Some text isn't translated to english, the final segment is very frustrating and completely linear, and there are some weird quirks to changing form mid-action. These issues, while annoying, can easily be fixed through updates. However, my biggest problem with this game is with the main mechanic, the combo bar. Mombo only has 2 HP, and every attack in the game does 1 damage. Filling up the combo bar replenishes your health…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Insanely cute and fun platformer that makes you want to perfect your room runs. The difficulty is on the easier side, lots of upgrades and abilities you can choose to activate or equip to make your life easier if you struggle with things. Had an absolute blast.
