15 of 15 · most liked firstThis is a fun game akin to a Vampire Survivors type of Rogue-Like. In its simplest form, it’s a twin stick shooter that has a good soundtrack and some lore to boot. It certainly isn’t without its issues; some balancing is needed, using a controller is significantly harder and the steam deck version isn’t greatly optimized… YET. BUT the biggest green flags for me is the teams desire to get it right. The steam deck version wouldn’t boot at all - they took care of it. They’re adding things like…

Hope it'll get better, since it just came out, but right now I can't recommend it. edit: They are working on it, and quite a bit faster than I hoped, too. They seem nice and willing to experiment. I'll contact them and see what feedback I can give. :) edit 2: It's good now, get it while it's hot. <3

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is simply a bad game! It fails in almost every aspect what makes a good rogue like (I played the game for about 3 hours- 2 hours offline) 1. The progression system is a joke: there is only two updates (the most boring ones: xp-gain and health!) 2. There are 8 weapons that can be unlocked after a huge grind fest, and not for money but for bounty -money????-wtf 3. Its grindy as hell 4. The levels are boring and all look the same 5. Minor flaws: No map or minimap. + you cannot even read your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The stunning pixel art is what caught my eye, and it perfectly captures the dark, gothic western theme. But the gameplay itself is what kept me hooked. The controls are tight, the action is fast and smooth, and the card system makes every run feel unique and exciting. The moody soundtrack ties it all together beautifully. An absolute gem. Highly recommended!

It kind of reminds me of an in-depth version of the Prairie King game from Stardew Valley and gives me a nice sense of nostalgia. There are things that bother me, like how the companions feel a bit useless and sometimes the progress doesn't feel very rewarding but a lot of those things are already being addressed in the next update. The dev seems really open to feedback and eager to improve this already great game and that's really nice to see. I'm…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Pistol is a western twin stick shooter where you fight zombies and bullet-hell bosses. There are four biomes, including a town and a vampire castle. You go through procedural-generated levels to find the boss and beat them. Easier said than done. In Red Pistol, every enemy will drop a skill crystal. Gain enough, and you'll level up. Then you'll have a choice of one of four skills to enhance. These range from extra bullets to causing enemies to bleed. There is also a bounty system, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a bit of a fan of these rougelike shooters. Whilst they got 'big' with Vampire Survivors, I've enjoyed some smaller, but niche titles. Red Pistol is one of those. With a Western / Vampire theme, you are rolling through four environments with incrementally stronger weapons and perks to get to the final boss. It's all been said before, you will need favourable RNG to get the build you prefer to take on the heavy hitters, but Red Pistol does this in a pixelated Wild West platform with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game! The art is awesome, the music is great, the playing mechanics are great. One of the aspects that I love the most is how smooth the movements feel, it's flawless in that category. The team behind this game seems very proud of their work and it shows in the improvements. Can't wait to play more and see what lies ahead!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The VIBE of this game is immaculate. The pixel art is gorgeous and the gothic western theme is so cool. Soundtrack absolutely slaps, too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/03uEyr0Iux4 Combat is balanced for painfully spongey enemies and bosses that waste the players time as they plink away at them for ages to earn a kill.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too simplistic and no challenge. Enemy AI is just move towards PC. As an example of the design issues, there are villagers that you can rescue on various screens and when you do, they all have the exact same three chunks of dialogue that you have to sit through.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Survivors game, but this isn't a good one. Poor gameplay, poor upgrades, enemies take forever to kill. Decent music and art, and I liked rescuing people to join your camp, but overall it's very dull.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Developed by Ace Horizon Studios and published by indie.io, Red Pistol delivers a stylish blend of roguelike action, bullet-hell intensity, and supernatural western storytelling. Rather than sticking to the familiar themes of outlaws and frontier justice, the game introduces a darker interpretation of the Old West where vampires, zombies, and other monstrous creatures have transformed the land into a dangerous battlefield. Players step into the boots of bounty hunter Reed Ransom, whose mission…
