The sense of progression, combat, and exploration all feel very akin to Rogue Legacy, but Dwarf Journey is a relatively lighter, easier, shorter, and less deep game than Legacy. Just about everything can be unlocked within a typical 2 hour game, and although there is some post-game grind you can do if you want to level up all of your armor and weapons, there's not much motivation to continue since you can already easily beat everything…

You swing your short sword and there's the longest cooldown I've ever seen in a game before you can strike again, meanwhile there's 5 enemies ganging up around you. That's not fun and doesn't make me want to grind and suffer more of that in order to improve my weapon. I think this has potential but it desperately needs tweaking and more content to make the rooms less repetitive.

My 10 year old daughter Ariadne has played and just finished Dwarf Journey today while my 8 year old son Calchas and I have given it a decent try. Kind of grindy of easy fights, then a tough bosses at the end of the level. I was stuck on the second boss, grinding experience points and upgrade resources. Then it did not take long to finish the game, after that. Played on an Ubuntu Linux desktop and a Steam Deck, with Steam's Proton compatibility software. The game worked flawlessly with gamepad controls.
