It has the Metroidvania-aspects where you get new powers like dashes and slides to get to areas unreachable before, although all in all the game seems to be much smaller and more linear. You even have a very similar animation and sound effect for the air dash, for example. Exploration besides the path seems to be only rewarded with bonus items which give you orbs which you can use to level up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34633003-Gaming-Masterpieces/lists/] Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? No, but it is a good looking little platformer nevertheless. And it is the first game I ever played inspired by Peruvian culture and tales. You play a little imp made of fire, sent by the (dying) Sun (Imp of the Sun, now I get it) and tasked with defeating four Keepers that brought an eternal eclipse to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Glad to see Chimchar finally gets his own game, I wanted him to be in smash but this is even better! My wife’s boyfriend says it’s like a Dollar Store Ori. Wow! It is Ori like! And this does not mean that it does not have value, literally the opposite. It’s so much like a brighter version of Ori. First off, I wanna say the game is so cute, I really liked the NPC designs, and the main character design is ADORABLE, I love little fire monke Nin. The backgrounds are really pretty, the areas are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great visual style akin to Ori but unfortunately the execution couldn't be more botched. Theres so many problems with the game it would take less time to list the things right with it. Platforming is some of the most slippery and floaty I've seen in a long time, and for many parts requiring precision it is baffling. The hitboxes are also some of the worst I've ever seen in a game as they are super inconsistent, and I even got hurt by attack animations that were already completed. One boss you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I almost stopped playing the game due to its subpar game design, but I did finish it and it was even somewhat enjoyable. In the next paragraphs I'll explain why I do not recommend this game. It's actually not that bad, but I don't think it's worth its money. First of all, the art is gorgeous and one of the reasons the game caught my eye in the first place. The animation on the other hand could take some improvement though. The animated sprites look like they have very little frames and the…

unlabelledView post →Honestly such a fun game, however ever since the game released it has been abandoned by it's development team. The players have been shouting into the void for two years for the achievements which currently are completely broken to be fixed, but the dev's don't care. Because of all of this I urge you to not buy this game, and only play it if the dev's pull their finger out and update the game, or if it becomes free-to-play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not worth the price. This is a 4 euros game sold at 20 euros. Bug : Achievements don't work at all, you can't get them. Movement : it's bad. The acceleration is soooooo long and if you jump while accelerating, the acceleration continues in the air as if you were grounded. It's horrible to control, with very bad air control in particular when the game requires you to do some. Visuals : the style is what attracted me to the game. But let's be honest, ingame it's not that great, caves…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, the game is very, very nice. I love the art style, the music is great and the combat is OKAY atleast. But one major thing is that the jump height is fixed, which I just don't understand for a metroidvania game. Also, the main reason why I decided to refund this game, even though I enjoyed it and really wanted to finish it, is that steam achievements don't work, and the developers seems to ignore forums and seems to just have abandonded this game. Looking at the achievement…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid game, with solid visuals, and solid gameplay. It's a short game, considering I beat it in 4 hours, but it's a well made game that I recommend to everybody who loves metrovania-type games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*About gameplay, mechnics, design* This is definitely the 'black sheep' of the Story-Rich Platformers Bundle. Not in terms of story; story promises to be rich and it DOES deliver. But the general gameplay, movement, intertia feels bad. I don't think the 'open-world'-ness is a negative, even if it makes later levels easier (I enjoy when exploration rewards me). Chat with NPCs is weird: weird skip, weird delay. I even happened to choose a dialogue line by accident (fortunately it does not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like it has potential but this ended up being a waste of money. Went the mountain route first, the crumbling rocks are such a terrible design that it's not possible to wall jump off them in a consistent manner. Not going to spend ages trying to get to a position to try and pick up a collectible over and over when you can't be sure that the platforming you're going to perform works due to luck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great looking and sounding game and that's about all i can say about it because it just doesn't ''feel'' right I was using a controller to play and it still ended up feeling stiff and clunky in little ways Things like the double jump not quite feeling as high as it should or your melee attack not quite having the reach you need, The wall jump feeling off since you need to push into the wall but if you jump while holding the direction into the wall it won't launch off the wall so you have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can say I enjoyed the game, mostly. Still, I don't recommend it for one major reason. I'll get to it. Let's start with the story. Nice, though a little short. Very straight-forward with no real twist. The art style is cute and nice. Not amazing, but pretty good. And we get to the gameplay. Overall, it's ok. An action-platformer that isn't one those upsetting pixel-margin precision platformer. Not too easy, but not frustrating either. There is one major point I have a problem with though.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is not a detailed in-game map. Come on developers, it is sooooooo the current year, you cannoooooot skimp on that type of content. I've been spoiled, and I'm old. Can't remember stuff like I once did, when my only worry in life is finding a safe secure place to get busy and making it through the week after pulling a double all nighter to try and get through a new game on the first weekend. There are good things about this game, but I am not keeping a pencil and paper next to me while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: After some consideration and playing the final stage where you have to collect some stuff I just alt F4 uninstalled this game and changed this review to negative. The controls are just abysmal. It's a bit difficult to recommend this game due to some issues here and there I had with the game and I'd say wait for a sale as of right now. The game has an amazing art direction, it's really unique Hand Drawn game and it really shows! It's also a platformer game with metroidvania elements but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 100% completing the game I really enjoyed playing, it has a really unique playstyle, challanges and a cute atmosphere. But sadly the achievements doesn't work and they abandoned the game :( Overall 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat just is too janky
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy, controls are poor, and there has not been a single patch released.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a metroidvania, similar to Ori but significantly worse. Controls are unresponsive in an annoying way for something that rely on platforming. The biggest reason i do not like this game however is the NPC's, the speaking is horrible, the text is slow and pauses half way through for no other reason than forcing you to listen to their nonsensical rambling. You cannot lower or turn down the sound of it either since the only options you have in the game at all is SFX, Music and Master…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 needs some fixes before you buy + Art style - some of the upgrade costs are insane - the more health, you have the longer it takes to heal. this is a regular thing you do all the time, even in boss fights. that's the only time it should be slow when enemies are around - janky combat + for the most part decent platforming, nothing special. - worthless in game map - no guidance what so ever at any point, just go what ever direction you want until you cant because you don't have the thing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →now im not saying im an amazing platformer but i finished a certain amount of them in my time as a gamer. which leads me to absolutly be pissed off with 90% of the jumps in this game being undoable with dubble jumps and you need to air dash for. on top of that the combat is clunky where ennemies will hit you at random and on spawnin making the game a lot more annoying than it has to be
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not good. combat feels too slippery and imprecise. Its especially finicky if you use a thumb stick instead of a dpad for directional controls. this is kind of an issue cause the game is pretty hard, it does not mess around. Also the animations are kinda everywhere, the enemies dont hurt you via contact but the attack animations and the movement/idle animations are way too similar. Its hard to tell if something is attacking or just idling. Finally the fact you get a pathetically small hp…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imp of the Sun, developed by Sunwolf Entertainment and published by Fireshine Games, is a visually arresting 2D action-platformer that draws heavily from the myths, music, and culture of pre-Columbian Peru. Unlike many titles in the Metroidvania-inspired genre that fall back on European medieval or generic fantasy aesthetics, this game roots itself in a world shaped by Andean legend, ancient ruins, and solar deities. The result is a unique experience that stands out aesthetically even before a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not finished all bosses no matter game progress is hard and nearly unbeatable, cannot skip chat or fast forward
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very poorly designed imitation of the Ori series. The artstyle belies the obvious inexperience of the devs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has common error in programming where bosses get harder the more powerful you are. All bosses i can get to 1 or 2 shot me even though i have 5 hits.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fantastic. If you're interested in a game that have a good history and a amazing soundtrack then you should defintly try this game. Besides, you can learn some of the peruvian prehispanic mitology.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, it's not a game for beginners, each boss gets tougher and tougher. Cant wait to complete the game, it's a real challenge.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started playing Imp of the Sun a few days ago. If you are looking for a game that properly represents and respects Peruvian indigenous culture, this is the one to play. #NintendoSwitch #IndieGames #LatinAmerica #Inca #Peru #ImpOfTheSun
unlabelledView post →It's a piece of art. The game is based in Peru's cultures
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The physics are so slippery and difficult to manage that I quit after less than an hour because I was struggling with the beginner areas. It's not a matter of skill, the problem is that there's no consistency with how momentum is generated. Coupled with extremely unforgiving platforming segments that REQUIRE precision and it makes for a decidedly frustrating gameplay experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →achievements do not work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave it a shot, but this game just lacks a lot of polish and isn't fun to play. Using the fast travel and levelling system and everything are too cluttered to be effective. The constant unimportant dialogue in the corner of the screen is just repetitive and annoying, and serves no purpose other than telling you what to feel. Enemies just don't respond to counters you often get hit for doing things right. I did try to enjoy it, but it didn't work for me. Maybe other people can find more joy in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not like this game. It felt like it was trying to be Ori, except the person who designed it had no idea how to program proper movement. The controls make no sense. The momentum is off and everything about how it plays is frustrating. I could not stand it for more than 20 minutes before I angrily task-manager closed out. No! Bad designer!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short but sweet little metroidvania, after the tutorial segment the entire game map immediately opens up and lets you go off in one of four directions, the controls are fast and fairly solid (the dash mechanic doesn't like going diagonal but that was the biggest issue I had) and the platforming and combat, while never super deep, are pretty fun. It also looks gorgeous and there's a fairly diverse array of environments. Bosses are a mixed bag, the darkness one in particular is... not good, and…

A light and beautiful game 🎋☀️. The gameplay is simple and fun, with an artistic touch inspired by ancient cultures that gives it a unique vibe. A short experience, but one that leaves a warm impression ✨🧡.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a sweet metroidvania, but more of a starter type as it is very short and the combat is more of a hack and slash than anything more difficult like Hollow Knight, or Nine Sols. I had a fun time playing it, but some of the game mechanics annoyed me at first, especially how there is a ramp up to your movement speed, which can make precise jumping a pain. There was also a bit of a lag between button inputs and actions happening sometimes, especially when climbing areas. Overall I'd give…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imp of the sun is a strange game. It's somewhat simple, with and equally simple story. I honestly can't remember much of what I played. I do remember that the combat was floaty and that enemies could essentially shred you in seconds if there's enough of them. Which happens a lot However, the setting and graphics are genuinely beautiful. Add that to the fact that its set is a Oeruvian world, and you got a unique looking game. You can also feel genuiene passion in this game. Looking into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updated for Steam award thingy. Recommendation comes with a big fat *, but I'll get to that later. So obviously the visual and audio design is among the best of any media in the century, like this game is a playable illustration book with a symphony weaved into it's pages. The story is fairly light, not delving too deep into any specific area, especially so if you ignore optional collectibles, but despite that I felt engaged, wanting to learn more. The story's length also benefits the game's…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved it, great little game. DISCLAIMER: yes, sadly there's a bug that prevents you from getting Steam achievements, but at least the achievements are shown in-game. It's unfortunate that the game didn't make enough money for the devs to keep supporting it and fix this issue. Probably the main reason it gets some negative reviews. But other than that, I didn't notice any other bugs and the game is quite decently polished overall. It's pretty much a Peruvian Ori with a couple of twists (you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely cute and fun platformer, fun art, *exceptional* music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good but very short. Recomended on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One more metroidvania that is designed for ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hardcore players. Damn, where can I have a metroidvania for chill?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only recently really started getting into puzzle platformers and initially wasn't going to play this (got it in the Jingle Jam game bundle) but it looked just so cute and charming that I decided to give it a try. Great game! The boss levels are a bit grindy at times and can be punishing, but the feeling of utter satisfaction and joy when one gets beat makes up for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, coming back to this game after nearly 50 HOURS in this game, and I would have to say that it has strengths and weaknesses. Firstly, love the setting. I haven't really seen that many games set in Peruvian mythology or whatever, but this game pulls it off pretty well in my opinion. The art is great for the most part (some background elements are at a lower resolution which becomes pretty noticeable at 1080p), along with good animations. I love the movement in the game for the most part, as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Loved every hour with this little metroidvania gem. Looks like Ori and the Blid Forest, but it's map is compact like Gato Roboto. Interesting level desing and abilities, not too easy and not too tough for my likes. Please check it out!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game with incredible visual and a unique and vibrant setting, but the keyboard controls are abysmal. it really needs a way to change them because i find it unplayable without a controller. (luckily i have a controller and am really enjoying this game). Absolutely buy it if you have a controller.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"We have Ori at home"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is visually good! The set design and backgrounds are so wonderfully made and each character has care and though put into their design. However. The game really falls apart when you play it. Nin controls as if they are constantly on ice, and the jumping is weird too. the game also fails to explain many gameplay mechanics especially when it comes to some bosses and enemies. The game also fails to tell you one of the most important aspects of the game, which is that you can…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imp of the Sun is actually a very good game that takes a bit of time to get into. A lot of games like this get worse as you progress through them, but this one actually gets better. It also has a cute fairytale-like retelling of Incan folklore and beautiful graphics and music. The game is a tad rough around the edges, in particular when it comes to the combat, but once you know the game's quirks and see some of the things it screws up it's easier to look past them, even though it needed a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came to the realization that the Switch port of Imp of the Sun has one major flaw. It periodically crashes for what seems like no reason at all. In my last play session, the game crashed three times consecutively due to an unknown error.
unlabelledView post →I played this on a different platform. It's a fun classic sort of platformer. I would call it an underrated game. It's a fun exploration platformer/metroidvania and worth a play.
