This game is a lot of fun when you're just playing reactively, but the moment you start making plans it becomes torture. Want to get all 4 of the sultan's guards on your side for a revolution? Sorry idiot, you misused a stone card 40 turns ago, and now YOU'RE COMPLETELY LOCKED OUT OF FINISHING THIS QUEST. No matter how much you check the wiki, you will never have checked it enough to NOT get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over. It's also incredibly easy to get locked into a dead man walking situation, where not only…

It looks like this is a good game, and I think people who enjoyed Cultist Simulator will enjoy this game too. It just doesn't work for people like me. In many games, we derive pleasure from gradually understanding the mechanics better and better. In some games this works very well for me; in some it can be annoying but tolerable; and in some it's so bad that it simply doesn't click. Sultan's Game is an example of the latter. There is a lot to love about it: heaps of storylines and secrets to…

I feel we haven't discussed enough how gorgeous the Sultan's Game is. It's similar to Cultist Simulator but turn-based instead of real-time (I much prefer it this way). Only ~1,000 English reviews, but over 20,000 Overwhelmingly Positive Chinese ones.

At $24.99, Sultans Game is an overpriced and--dare I say--overrated new entry in the choices-matter, text-based, narrative-heavy genre. But instead of comparing it to more cohesive genre experiences like The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, Roadwarden, and Suzerian, I'll look at Sultans game on its own merits. I enjoyed my first two-three hours of this game. I like that it does something different mechanically: the deck builder/card slot mechanic is, at first, slick. I like the theme, the…

From the very first playthrough, the game feels unique and refreshing. I’d describe it as a narrative-driven experience with a strong emphasis on reading and decision-making. While choices are made through cards, it doesn’t really feel like a traditional card game—the cards simply act as a way to select actions. The core premise is straightforward: you’re forced by the Sultan to participate in his “game.” You draw cards from a box, each representing a task you must complete. You have 7 days…

Great list! How crazy it is that we could still keep going, adding stuff like Citizen Sleeper 2, Sultan's Game, Rift Wizard 2, Tainted Grail, Fantasy Maiden Wars, The Last Sovereign, Inazuma Eleven, Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum, Approaching Infinity, The Necromancer's Tale... And 2025 isn't over!

I really, really, REALLY love this kind of game. I'm the person who really enjoyed Cultist Simulator despite its insatiable grind that makes me so annoyed, who re-running depressing rounds of The Life of Suffering of Sir Brante to be an exercise in showing the absolute beauty of how life can persevere, who thinks that Roadwarden is a modern masterpiece of text-based resource management. There is a great game in here somewhere, but it's buried under so much jank. There are 2 main issues: quality of life and English translation – both are pretty awful. The poor translation has been discussed in multiple other places, but quickly: it's quite bad which is a pretty big problem for a text based story game. Creates a lot of unnecessary confusion which is one more barrier among the many other QoL issues. Quality of life is really the bigger issue, though. So much tedium. Having to…

No idea how to describe this game. It's like a virtual choose-your-own-adventure adult version Monkey's Paw RPG management game? It's difficult, it's crazy in-depth, offers massive opportunities for differentiation, rewards after each game to make each subsequent play slightly less difficult, but ultimately more varied, and the staggering amount of choices, characters, items, and even animals you can acquire has me relentlessly coming back for more punishment. About three hours into my first proper run of this game, I ended up having carnal relations with a rhino to fulfill a card's requirements. This somehow was less offensive to my wife than when I ended up doing the same with my male best friend. And what's more, in runs since, I have since come to understand that riding the rhino is a pretty good usage of the Carnality card, because it gives you an animal handling equipment slot. The most important thing if you are on the fence about this game: I would buy this game ONLY if you like BOTH dialogue heavy/visual novel games where you basically just read and make choices, and also roguelikes that do things different. The fact that this is a deck builder is important but you likely wouldn't have looked at this game if you aren't into deck builders anyway. While it doesn't call itself one, there are many similarities to a roguelike. However this game isn't really that- your…

This is one of those times where I wish I could give an "in the middle" rating. It's a style over substance issue. Now, when the game is THIS stylish, that's not a dealbreaker, necessarily, it's just not what I'm looking for. Don't let the presentation fool you, this isn't a card game based management sim like Cult Simulator, it's a story game through and through and the card game and management aspects are kept very simple as to not distract from the story aspect.

It is a convoluted, time-crunched, macro-heavy strategy game that just scratches my itch in the same manner as Daibanchou: Big Bang Age or Sengoku Rance do. The combination of time-limited quests, limited resource and manpower makes for a lot of meaningful decision-making, in fact, I often found myself caught between a rock and a hard place. They are taunting the players who love the endings where characters sacrificing their lives fighting for BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, and these endings are, ironically, written by themselves. If you like games that require balancing limited resources on a tight deadline with brutal consequences then Sultan's Game is for you. A slow burn that erupts into pure, captivating chaos. I almost bounced off this game initially, opening and closing it a few times before it finally clicked. I am so glad I gave it a real try. Between the mesmerizing soundtrack and the wildly unpredictable RNG, the game constantly keeps you on your toes. Yes, the randomness can be frustrating, but it’s completely worth it for the hilarious and brilliant storylines you uncover.. Have some patience and give it a try—you won't regret it.
