positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a nostalgia bait that's trying to recreate a flash game. There are quite a few of these topdown shooters here on steam and this is probably the weakest one out of the bunch I ever had the pleasure of playing. It has an uninspiring level design and progression system.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first few levels make a poor impression. The gameplay is very simple, and first few weapons and upgrades are not interesting. The game also feels unpolished: - Enemies getting stuck on vegetation - No cross-hair sprite, just your OS mouse cursor - Turning feels clunky, sometimes making me miss shots
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It resembles a shooter from the good old days, but lacks balance and depth. The game's difficulty is uneven, depending more on whether you have ammo than on the challenges themselves. The artificial intelligence of the enemies is simple, and after a few levels, the game starts to lose interest. I completed three planets, but then it became boring due to the lack of ammo and variety.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pure twin stick game that consists of 8 worlds, 10 levels each, ending with a boss fight. Each level takes 1-5 minutes and they are horribly unbalanced where some can be completed in seconds via sprinting and later levels may take multiple retries due to limited health and long stretches of enemies. The first 5 worlds are very easy and then the dev decides to immediately scale the difficultly in world 6. And, it's not really that difficult but rather the dev results to throwing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Son of a Gun: an otherwise decent game overshadowed by a greedy publisher. The game is far too expensive for what it is. Son of a Gun is a twin-stick shooter with decent, albeit somewhat slow gameplay. It doesn’t have much of the bullet-hell style often expected in this genre. The enemy AI is simple and not very challenging. The overall presentation is generic but serviceable. Somehow, it's graphics and even gameplay reminds me of an old flash game – As$ Hunter. The map progression is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →:) :) :) GOOD GAME! :) :) :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No options to rebind keys sadly, making this game completely unplayable for left handed gamers, or anyone that finds the default WASD layout impossible to use due to disability or preference. (Or if they use a non QWERTY keyboard) A shame too, the game looked fun, but refunded since I couldn't actually play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very positive? I think not, it's pretty mid at best. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played on a steam deck, preety nice game, I see some minor incoviniences and some balance issues, but as I never was a fan of twin stick shooter genre, i feel like this one is a perfect size for a casual sessions to someone new to all this. Really enjoyed goofing around with some all powerfull granade + granade + time stop combos (non will survive), (hint implosion works with cluster). This said, i really hate the fact that rarity feels kinda random i found blue and purple rarity weapons that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What you see is what you get, literally. If you ever wanted to go back to playing old browser shooters that maybe did not had the depth today's games have, but were just pure fun, you have one right here. Plenty of things to shoot, plenty of things shooting you. For this kinds of money, you can skip one Starbucks and have a fun lil while in this game instead.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasurable is a way to describe this, very reminiscent of old flash games but in a good way, the price point is decent too for a game like this i think. ull find your dollars worth here. U dont have to put too much mind into playing it. a bit like the sas games before the insane microtransactions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is fun. New mechanics/monsters/environments are introduced from time to time, so I did not get bored one minute (after 3 hours). Music is good, sounds could be a bit more immersive. Also: dev, please add controller vibration (matching with the gun type if possible). This would improve immersion a lot and make shooting the slimy things even more exciting! <3 : I completed a second run. I still had fun. It also triggered this old memory of playing Alien Breed on Amiga, way way back... Not so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite entertaining gameplay, many various weapons and planets. Character's feature/ability selection tree allows to play the game using different tactics -> e.g. speedrunning levels or blasting through the enemies by developing damage/armor skillset. I'd love to have more laser/beam/plasma automatic guns, and maybe more open maps. Perhaps some "destroy the nest/spawner" gamemode? Adding co-op would be great too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Negatives: - Keys not re-bindable. Positives: - The default keys are fine. - Lots of blood & gore makes for satisfying monster splatting. - Shooting things is fun. - Affordable. - Easy to pick up & play. - You won't need to buy a new PC to play this. - No microtransactions. - Attractive female characters. - No gay ♥♥♥♥ or communism.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks and plays like a bad flash game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/RJwCWtUG2rU Weightless missions wandering through flat levels to the exit point while AI get stuck on any and all geometry.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just got to the 3rd planet. At this point I didn't get bored even once: diversity of enemies and locations. Can't say the locations are challenging, although I died many times. The game is a solid twin-stick shooter, not perfect, just solid. And it works great on Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get Brotato instead. It's too bad as I like janky old games but this is some very ugly mechanics (the variety is ok after awhile) and erratic pacing with a good dose of failed pathing and glitchy AI.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →picking up different guns with various stats to consider was interesting but that was about it. the movement and aiming have some kind of kinetic physics delay so rather than snappy feeling action you get kind of a sluggish dragging sensation the entire time. then theres the sin of the options menu. there is no resolution selection, just the window scaling to your current monitor resolution. you can alt enter to enable a windowed mode but no option for that in the game. you can turn shadows on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no ultrawide support. no options to change resolution in game. no real reason to inconvenience myself in order to play. thank god i paid less than $5 for this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's almost good. I think more stage variety and more feedback from all forms of interaction would go a long way here.

unlabelledView post →At first I thought the game was a bit trite. The first two-three locations were simple, and then the trickiness began... Enemies could re-attack from behind the path. In the dark, it was a bit like a horror, Should I go somewhere? Or not to go anywhere at all? But the levels are not very voluminous on the map, so the desire to walk overwhelms the fears. -- I've only reached the second boss in the game (2-8 = the second planet, the boss is a worm), and I'm still having difficulties with it, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A top down shooter that is quite easy lacking a lot of polish (haha, get it, the developer is polish... nah but really, it lacks polish). Im not usually playing games like these and I found it rather easy, sadly no difficulty settings exist. The Positive: There were portions were I had some fun. The Neutral: Graphics are there, could be a lot better though. The Negative: German translation is quite bad. The pathfinding of enemies is horrible. They are just getting stuck when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Son of a Gun is a top down shooter game with satisfying gunplay and plenty of chaotic action. If you grew up playing classic flash games or 90s top-down shooters like Alien Breed, you will feel right at home here. Each run lets you collect new weapons and creating some fun build combinations as you fight through waves of enemies. Unfortunately, the game lacks variety. Enemy types, environments, and objectives become repetitive after a few runs, and progression feels fairly shallow. While…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a waste of time and money. For a game that lets you do two things - walk and shoot - it does them both poorly. Walking has some weird momentum going on. It's not Sonic, I'm not sprinting around the place. Shooting on the other hand has literally nothing. It feels like throwing wet noodles at enemies, they don't have any hit animations, they just die after you shoot them enough. Your character handles the recoil like a champ, absolutely no movement from a shotgun shot. No muzzle flash too,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome top down shooter, just what I like!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hmm cant really recommend it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was fun but some of the design choices are questionable. A few times I almost unistalled, the upgrades felt like they did nothing. The guns balance was weird as the mid game was carried by an epic pistol and a rocket launcher. You get a time slowing power which was useful on one boss that was more RNG then anything but I took half its health out at the start. I didn't use it at any other point. Overall its an OK game and at some points I was having fun and other times it was just like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its ok. Nothing special, but definitely not offensive in it's existence. I think the enemy pathfinding could be better; often enemies will go in straight line of sight to the player and get caught on walls. The boss fights are interesting. The guns are ok, though I think the stat variation isn't well established enough to warrant using anything other than your best weapon. I'd give a solid 6/7
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a pretty basic but very fun shooter. Its a few hours long.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game difficulty begins at extremely easy (enemies get stuck behind map objects) then suddenly becomes extremely difficult (overpowered and outgunned at first boss fight). Worth the dollar I paid for it in a game bundle but no more than that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a simple TDS game. Nothing to be excited about, but if you have an itch for such a game - it should suffice. It will get repetitive though (same several enemies, same ambushes, same'ish level design).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Son of a Gun, developed by Crank Goblin and published by Untold Tales and Gamersky Games, is a fast-paced twin-stick shooter that embraces chaos, absurdity, and nostalgia in equal measure. From the moment the game begins, it becomes clear that subtlety has no place here. Players are thrown into a ridiculous and violent sci-fi setting where every inch of the screen is fair game for explosions, alien gore, and a dizzying array of projectiles. It’s a game that lives and dies by the sheer spectacle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely janky, especially the movement. It's borderline-nauseating. It's easy to get stuck in the environment, and same goes for your enemies.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty bad, from controls to UI and balance. Turning is slow, weapons are underwhelming and slow, player get stuck in every plant, nearly no enemy animations... Some good ideas, but the gameplay loop is just not engaging enough. Stopped after the first boss, didn't feel much point keeping on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →solid kick a$$ twin stick shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fairly short and simple top down shooter with a very minimalist story and descent control. It does nothing special, but what it does it does well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some unintuitive elements in this game, but the game is very cool and like it. Some people have commented that it's a nice alternative to bullet-hell games (which are quite popular right now) as it allows for slower-paced gameplay. Although it's completely different from the old F22 Raptor, it reminds me of that game with its weapon upgrades, graphical style and the possibility of selling weapons. When presented with a new weapon, I can either pick it up to replace one of my existing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really cool little game that brings you back to the origins! :) If you enjoyed classics like Alien Breed or Chaos Engine, this one’s right up your alley. Plenty of unique enemies and engaging boss fights keep things exciting. The game strikes a great balance between playstyles—go in guns blazing or take a more tactical approach. Plus, there's a solid arsenal of weapons to choose from. I had a great time playing, and at this price, you can’t go wrong! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are tired of bullet heaven games and prefer something slower paced, this might be a game for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me of Crimsonland. Somewhat lacking in game feel area, but It is ok for the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun enough but nothing special.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On Steam's Store page it says: "A retro-inspired twin-stick shooter like they made back in the day. Guns, blood, and gore all in one nostalgia-looking package." What it should say: "If you're looking for an auto aiming, auto firing VS clone to watch while it plays itself, save your $ and go to Twitch." It's not perfect, but it's fun for passing the time. Get's a little cheap in the later levels, but not too too bad....yet at least. There seems to be a lot of content in it. I'm on level 6-6…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game! Nice new mechanics, and I cant wait to see the future patches.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You will kill millions! This one delivers retro shooter goodness in your face! It has solid variety of enemies - robots are bit hard to kill but those purple mantises are fast and requires to be on your toes all the time - I love them!. And weapons... plenty of procedurally generated weapons - it's like Borderlands 2D. I love especially rocket launchers (high risk - high reward) and shotguns (which pack a punch) Story is simple and enough for me in such games. Ammo system is a bit wierd at…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't know if I've ever described a game as "inoffensive" before, Son of a Gun is a perfectly fine 5/10. It isn't good but it also isn't bad, It's basically one of those flash games you'd play once for 2-3 hours then never think about again. I'm not recommending it cause of that price, in no world is this worth $10, is 100% a game you'd play for free on Newgrounds.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →@pablo0151.bsky.social was in town the other day, can’tremember exactly when, but there was a guy playing live drums along to scouse house classics. I heard the end of JX “Son of a Gun” and the start of Alison Limmerick “Where Loves Lives” he was absolutely at the top of his game.
unlabelledView post →Played only 25 minutes and love it and also the graphics look nice too
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Juego de disparos simple, sin complicaciones. Es entretenido, pero sólo vale la pena si lo ves muy barato, o lo pillas en un bundle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Collision is bad, some things are hard to see, guns are not exciting with many similar weapons, cutscenes are unskippable... It's a throwback and might be fun for some people, but considering the name of the game, I was underwhelmed by the gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda boring, presentation is lacking something.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very energetic and cool game! Lots of blood and Metal music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fine game but only for retro games fan. Simple gameplay loop and no major bugs makes this game quite fun
