This game will crash to desktop (CTD) once your game file gets around 2GB. I cannot recommend this game to you IF you have Windows 10 or 11 AND 64 bit OS/ 64x processor. IF you have an older MS OS or Linux, I can't tell you not to get it, b/c it was fun until it CTD. Don't put stale bread in a new fridge. Window's 10/11 buyer beware.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know its old but I like it better than the newer games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civ 4 was the third game I ever played, and in my eyes it's still better than Civ's new releases. Engaging mechanics and well balanced progression systems put Civ 4 at the absolute top.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One should be able to pack 10 armies into one hex
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civ 4 is THE version of the game. The rest pale in comparison
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic. You can't beat Leonard Nimoy doing the voice-over.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the best version of the Civilization franchise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love a world-builder, and this is the one all others are judged by.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the first games I remember playing was Civilization. Many years later when I found this one steam I bought and haven't looked back. It's my go to game whenever I'm bored. I have tried some of the newer versions but they just didn't click with me and I found myself coming back to IV.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an original classic for gamers who love turn based strategy. TRY IT. You will like it. Other Civilizations lack, some give more. Civ 4 is the sweet spot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasn't expecting much from a Civilization game from 2005, but I was surprised to find this to be actually really fun and enjoyable. Great gameplay, great soundtrack, just a great game. The graphics are a little dated but I personally don't mind them much. The UI is a little older too but it's fine. Overall, it's a really good game and I'm glad I got it for dirt cheap on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best in the series. Of great scale and depth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is for sure one of my favorites. It's a great game to start with if you're new to the series. A bit more complex than it's predecessor (Civ III), but simpler than Civ V, this chapter introduces Religion into the game. Win a "Religious Victory" by setting victory conditions, prior to launching the game, to reflect that. Introducing a different kind of play than military conflict, one where you can win without ultimately resulting to conflict, but by spreading your "influence" all over…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Duh!! It's Civ 4. Honestly, one of the best 4x and Civ games. IMO much better than 5 and 7 in terms of fun and replayability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civ 4 is the best Civ edition for many reasons. Always will be based on the downward trend of it's successors.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, this is my all-time favorite Civilization game. While I do prefer the hexagon maps of the later games, this one just clicks and flows for me, and it is also made better with the voicework of Leonard Nimoy. Just such a great, and still epic game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought it on sale for my crappy windows 11 laptop. works great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Civ. That's all you need to know. For me, it's the last one before it got too complicated. I've been playing the series since Civ 1 and really feel like this is the best one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is helpful in my classes both because it leads me to new interests in social studies and reinforces what I learn from my teachers. Not entirely historically accurate but enough and lots of Geography, climatology, topography, resource allocation, technology, etc.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When this game was new, I was blown away. There's not nearly as much wait time between rounds for the game to calculate and move stuff. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the effects of global warming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 1,000+ hours across Civ IV - VI, I can happily say that IV is the best in the series. The AI is brutal even on normal difficulties and can't be walked over easily like in V and VI. The tech tree is also the best in my opinion and the different traits and starting technologies for each leader/civilization provide a surprising amount of variety. Buying Civ IV at a book fair at my middle school in 2006 may be one of the best decision I ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly this was one of the first turn based games I played as a kid. I have spent hundreds of hours at least. Music is 10/10 love Chris Tin music.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Civ, I had it on disc and spent thousands of hours easy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best civ game ever, would definitely recommend to all others that enjoy civ and turned based games, currently trying to get a long term co-op game going, full scale wars against a.i.no short and easy games here lol message on steam or can jump in if you see an open spot in game, can also message me on xbox im using same name
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry, but this game is for mentally challenged people. If you've got more than two braincells, you probably won't like this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Try civlilzation IV well it's good because the graphics are good, gameplay is good, many more it's like civilization III but better!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grew up playing this game. Ran it back last year with my brother and its as good as ever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once a great game. Does not run on Windows 11. Don't waste your money!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is continuously engaging and entertaining
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i know how to win!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a curious comparasion to civ6. Many mechanics present a more desision rich gameplay, and many of those desicions are so much more flavourfull. take civics. In civ4 you have a dilema of abandoning slavery, pushing harder on military control etc etc. It aint perfect, but in comparasion to civ6's civics it kinda is. What happens when you get 50% on making builders? +5 power when fighting barbarians? Its a mechanic sure, and its fun in its own right, but the flavour is board game, not civilization…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is awesome i haven't personally played much but one of the people i share this account with does and i love this game and find it fun so you can imagine how a person who probably put in 550 of the 556.9 hrs as of writing this loved this game i disagree because i love total war warhammer and conquest of eleysium but he says it's the best game of its genre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This civ has one of the most iconic main menu songs of the entire series. I decided to give the older civ games a try again, and of course they are still addicting. I played until I won. Took two tries.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →During battles, player loses most of the time even from a less advanced AI units...! you will have to reload the game several times with the random seed option on, in order to be able to defeat the AI units!! AI always has the upper hand in economics and technology, unless you get several random technologies from entering villages at the very early few turns after the game start. Unfair gaming is an understatement.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Civ of the whole series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great classic - revered by some as the pinacle of the Civ series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It will suck you in for hours! Start on Settler difficulty, and make sure you have the whole day free to play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the earliest Civilization titles you could play without a tutorial if you've played more recent editions. They really nailed some of the satisfaction that drives that "One more turn..." feeling. Specifically the way your civilization evolves through the improvement of tiles and managing your workers, the visual representation of the wonders around your city. The irony is that despite considerably more complex mechanics, the later games sometimes struggle to get the emergent depth that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best turn base 4x game. Civ 4 use world square tile set. Other 4x game mostly use hex tile, don't like too many neighbour tile.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If one were to review my reviews one might find that I have the highest of praise for Civ 3. Well, that may be so, but a reality I sometimes deny myself is that Civ4 is actually by far my most played civ game. I never watched the OG Star Trek - for me TNG is the OG - so I don't have many connections to Leonard Nimoy from that series - in fact it is this game that firmly adhered him to my cultural identity, and this game is the reason I miss him dearly. Gameplay? As can be expected it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the hell out of this back in high school on a cracked copy so my actual playtime is way off. First off - listening to the main theme before starting a game is mandatory. It is that good. It is definitely a lot harder than Civ 5 or Civ 6, and it is showing its age in some graphical and UI departments, BUT it is still very feature rich and rewarding to play. There are a lot of features here that are still missing in newer releases of the Civ franchise - animal attacks, tech trading,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Childhood favorite! Still amazing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AI Overview Sid Meier's Civilization IV is widely considered the best game in the series by critical consensus, celebrated for its deep gameplay, strong AI, and balanced mechanics, while Sid Meier's Civilization VI is a recommended option for its accessibility, unique mechanics, and modernity, especially for new players. The "best" choice ultimately depends on individual player preferences for depth, modern features, or a balance between older and newer styles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →CIV 4 is actually my favorite of the Civilization Series, although I do enjoy the others as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have this on CD or DVD it came with two disks, a technology mapping and culture... This download is a partial, with add on sub games. It is difficult to figure out how to progress without side tracking yourself, do not believe the AI when it recommends things this is like believing the car salesman or the politicians wanting re-election. Ok in this version top right there is a technology expansion button you may use. Also in major choices open the see the greater picture to see what your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best of the series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just one more turn, then I'll write the review.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2nd Best Civilization Game ive played, always fun to come back to
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i prefer civ V or civ VI but it is a great game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great addition - a colorful, bit cartoony, but solid follow up to CIV III
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEST CIVILAZIOTN EVEN TOU ITS OLD STIL THES BESSSSSST
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →realy good game but its almost non playable on new hardware it bugs out in wierd resolutions and kinda streches your whole monitor setup
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old time excellence. Does not use hexagons!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oldy, but goody. Still fun after 15 years. Simple graphics and narrated by Mr. Spock reading great quotes from around the world.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is like hard drugs. You can't stop playing it. if you like games like risk then you'll love this game too much.
