While constantly working on a video game without any rest, a college student who's about to graduate quietly slipped into slumber several times. In those lucid dreams, he found himself in the game he was working on, the fantasy world of Dragon Spirits. From the Steam store page

60 of 61 · most liked firstI've only just started, so keep that in mind as I review this. If you see my playtime go up, I'm probably enjoying it. You awake to a world of not-Pokemon, where everything is a Dragon and soaked in a air of Isekai-MC webnovel. Yes, I'm deadly serious. If you read Chinese cultivation novels-without-the-cultivation, you'll know exactly what I mean. If that alone gets your brain tingling, just buy it. Moving on, you figure out that your name is Chang Junwai, protag and Dragon Trainer, that is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very good surprise. For 10€ you don't expect much but this is a hidden gem. I feel bad for getting it on sale because it is quite underpriced even for 10. This is one of the best monster taming experience i've had in the past decade or more. The designs are insanely good for most of them (like 90% which hasn't been the case in any other similar game), all of the 156 dragons have their own unique ability and sometimes talent, the combat is really solid, dynamic and deep. I didn't play to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems interesting, but I don't think I'll be able to finish it until they get a native English speaker to do the localization and clean up a lot of the grammar errors. Once that is done, I'd probably be able to recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been waiting so long for this release and since then i've already played demo. Here about the game is you play as a young boy apprentice who is indeed a developer of the game, young man, i can say as isekai. You need to learn how to fight, capture, evolve dragons etc... In a game, it's about dragons, I give references : how to train your dragon (movie) and pokemon ( game series). I love it so much ! Pros -Clear tutorials -Best characters -Different explorations ( school, forest,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an interesting game, however, the main gripe i have is: The game mechanics. I feel it does not teach me these things naturally and just throws manuals and text dumps for me to figure out, and quickly. Also, some of the translations are really REALLY rough and don't explain things clearly. Such as one dragon requires me to 'defeat it when my direct damage is lower than 50' ...ok, how do i determine this? Is there a way to know how much direct damage i will actually do or should i bring…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Pokemon x Persona running on the most default rpgmaker tile palette you've ever seen with high quality custom art and mid translation. It's an earnest love letter to fan projects and game development and the enthusiasm of youth. It's peppered with weird, semi-unexplained features and a game balance that shouldn't be anywhere near as solid and bug-free as it is. Dragon Spirits is a maximum effort swing that looks like low tier sludgeware, and there's about a hundred reasons someone might…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit after ummm... getting very absorbed into the game and getting 100% achievements and all dragons. Game is very good. Very strategic. Some fights are best swept quickly. Some are long-hauls. Some give you a bit of leeway to choose how you wanna play it based on what dragons you have. The best part of the game is how easily you can raise a new dragon to max level and try new strategies. Every new dragon is a new opportunity to mix things up a little. Almost every dragon is totally viable to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game desperately needs an english proofreader. Other than that, I like the art. Combat is chaotic but unique.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you leave this game in the background and try to do something like type the letters Q or E somewhere on your computer the game wont know if its in focus or not because its made poorly and will assume you are inputting key presses meant for the game. this opens up weblinks and other disruptive crap. Q is for their stupid discord and E brings you to this store page....? under the label "wishlist" what kind of dumbfk logic do you have to annoy your existing customers to wishlist a game they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This seemed like something I was going to like, but the translations were so rough, sometimes I couldn't even make out what was being explained. There was way too much info dumping, and I already found it tedious very early game. I got stuck in a loop where an enemy dragon was just constantly draining my stats, and then the stat drain was removed, but the game wouldn't let me have a turn. The concept and some of the dragon designs were neat, but I was just in almost physical pain trying to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like a GBA game ported to DS Lite with a Fan Translation. Overall feels pretty clunky. It doesn't seem like a bad game or anything, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they really love the feel of old handheld JRPGs. The game has pretty much no options, only volume, text speed, and display. and the display options are effectively small window, large window, and fullscreen. However the biggest issue with that is that the game only runs in 3:4 aspect ratio, which can even…

There are so many cool looking dragons in this You can capture dragons Each of these Dragons have an element type like - Fire , Water , Ice , Dark , Light , Wind The Fighting mechanics is very unique and innovative , never seen it anywhere before The story plot is amazing There are some Legendary dragons , 4 of them if I am not wrong Rating - 10/10 ( GO FOR IT )
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta ride them all and do it in a sufficiently distinct way in which Nintendo won't sue you to oblivion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pokemon, but everything is Legendary, including the game itself
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The translation is rough, but whatever that's there of the story isn't worth writing home about. However, this is genuinely one of those games where the gameplay is so good that I couldn't give a damn about the plot. The fun of the game comes in the strategies involved in capturing all the dragons and fulfilling their contract requirements with the tools you're given (some of which are insanely spammable and broken if you know where to look), and the battling depth is arguably better than many…

Every kind of dragon you can imagine is here in this Pokemon style RPG. 158 dragons ranging from fearsome and scary to gorgeous and expressive, sometimes even full of personality or humanity. It's great to see a game where dragons are mostly friends and not foes, making my heart soar as high as any dragon in the sky! The artwork on the dragons is stunning, despite them all basically being static images bashing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to enjoy the game, it has great art and the game design appears intricate and well thought about, with each dragon having their own strategy. However, in terms of certain combats, it takes so many different attempts to piece together the solution that it specifies. I can see how this game can be enjoyable and seen as a masterpiece for others, but it's just not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok, this game needs a better english translation. Trying to understand the story from the awful nonsensical sentences in the dialogue will give you a headache and after the first few hours, you'll just stop caring and try to skip everything. I know there is a good story under there about dreams, coding, justice and friendship but my brain refuses to do the extra work. Like what the MC said at the end "Its just sour grapes", hahaha Other than that, the game is a very solid Pokemon-like battler…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game worth the buy. However, if a developer ever reads this... do not put your memoir in a game, and not like this. the game rips me out of the immersion every time a big event ends and locks me into listening about unimportant feelings the devs had making the game (it actually makes me like the main characters less b/c of this). story without the memoir 6-7/10. b/c it has it... 4/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hidden gem with fun active combat mechanics. Translation is bad, but not horrible. I like!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ great dragon designs + everything feels broken and strong, all dragons are viable when applying different strategies + quite a lot of depth is going into the combat + hidden stuff and exploration is key + great character design, overall decent story - bad and irritating translation - the small map at the corner of the screen is far from being sufficient - some things are not appearing as polished as they should be (I ended up having 159 out of 158 viable dragons in the end) - backtracking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's neat little game with some interesting ideas that I CANNOT recommend for three specific reasons. -The English translation is very rough, making any attempt at following the details of the world and story almost nauseating. Even worse, this issue can bleed into the gameplay itself, since in can make some already obtuse mechanics basically impossible to grasp. -The world is surprisingly large, which would be a positive if not for how often you will find yourself barred from exploring it. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly good after you start to understand some of the weirder mechanics
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is brilliant imo, criminally underrated fusion of classic JRPG strategy and deep creature-collecting like Pokemon. Its extensive dragon-taming and PvP features are immediately compelling to me. Despite its current obscurity and any minor rough edges, the core gameplay loop is compulsive, brilliant, and deserving of a massive audience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A must buy for those who love monster collecting genre and have a good history with pokemon-liked game. Seeing the gorgeous artworks, battling with the great mixed of combat system, enjoying the nice map designs, experiencing pretty interesting story [if you can get pass the translation] you can tell the dev does love making this game, not to mention the deep lore they wrote. Would be nice if the dev added portraits for more minor characters, since the player must spend a lot of time with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has gorgeous artwork, the story telling is decent, and the combat mechanics and capture mechanics are both interesting and unique in a genre full of repetition. I'm really enjoying the game so far! There is a little bit of a learning curve on how to do everything within the game, but I'm 2.3hrs in right now and I think I understand it pretty well. There are some translation errors, but I haven't had any issues in following the story. I think this game deserves a lot more recognition…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another one that I enjoyed way more than I thought I would, The storyline was fun throughout the game and I like how potentially losing a battle didn't stop you from completing the game overall. 10/10 and works like a gem on the steamdeck ♥
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only RPG you don't have to wait till the last 10% of the game to see a dragon in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it definitely needs to be more polished and improve its QoL features. Awesome art, tho.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very interesting concept. Overall the rpg aspect is slightly lacking. The UI is ter..... needs time to get used to, but works. The story is a bit confusing due to translation errors, but you usualy get the context of everything. What absolutely destroys the fun is the combat system. The real timeconcept just doesnt work in this game. It is too shallow to feel "good" when you win, but you constantly feel cheated when your input is delayed and runs into another effect. Said effects are not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool monster collector
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Of course the translation could be better and maybe improved in the future, but for the hour I played so far has been an enjoyable experience as I love the design of dragons and the menu ui a lot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thi indie game has stole my heart. Wonderful work. Gentle and nice storytelling so far, interesting mechanics and beautiful art. It´s the first game of this type i have played since maybe Super Nintendo Illusion of Time, and i am loving it. totally worth the price. Good job!!! Never give up. P.D: Thanks for the English translation. Seriosly, thanks for the extra effort.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the exact game you fantasized about making when you were 11 years old, autistic, and obsessed with dragons. combat is super fun and every dragon is super cool, some really beautiful and affecting designs here. story itself is very charming w/ a really sweet message. the setting though, as established in sidequests mostly, is great. it's weird post-first-contact pre-apocalyptic science-fantasy... with lots and lots of (rather alien) dragons. you ever wonder why the pokemon world is so obsessed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just want to see at least ONE major indie game that has a great story and great gameplay, that has dragons being the main characters. No more monster collection games, even if Dragon Spirits is good. Not just mods for survival games. No more dragon rider games with non-sentient dragons.
unlabelledView post →This game is simply amazing. Its the best monster taming game I have played in my life. I feel a bit bad for buying this with a sale, because even for 10 euros this is an incredible game. Im surprised this game didnt explode in popularity back in the day. I hope developer gets the money or time to make another game like this, or an expansion to this game, because this game is like nothing in the market. Its probably game of the year for me, again im surprised how this wasnt even recommended…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I dont understand the combat (in part bc the translation sucks) at all but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i love dragons
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →feels clunky and unfinished. Poor localization. Didn't want to keep playing after only 25 minutes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A real hidden jewel, gameplay its more fun than a PKMN game, dragon designs are very good so are characters, its worth giving a shot
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →感觉很宝可梦,那我还不如直接去玩宝可梦
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rpg sickos only. Dragon Spirits is a creature collector with a VERY JANKY start and the most stock rpgmaker + flat translation foreboding feeling I've ever felt, that then bleeds into a wildly technical creature collector. Every catch feels like lockpicking. store.steampowered.com/app/1074190/...
unlabelledView post →Dragon Spirits is a very interesting game. It has many problems, but on the other hand, it does have a certain charm to it that works out. Overall, I enjoyed myself, and it's quite playable if you like JRPGs with tactical depth and staring at PNGs of dragons. The big draw in this game is the dragons. It's a creature-collector 1v1 battler, where you watch pictures of dragons you collect duke it out. There's a very interesting tactical depth to it and a multitude of builds you can make across…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game just gave me an expensive trading card... ty for the update
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game with some great dragon designs. The main story is easy enough, but some of the other bosses and endgame dragons require a lot of strategy to beat or contract and some of the mechanics might take a while to fully understand. Some people might not like this, and at some point or another your failure proof team will fail, but this game is definitely worth it to those willing to take the time to learn the battle mechanics and abilities of all the dragons they have or those who…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really recommend to try it urself
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far so good. Combat is pretty engaging. The dragons look absolutely awesome and the story is serviceable. However, this translation leaves a good bit to be desired. Definitely a great game underneath though becoming a favorite of mine already
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rough translation is an immediate turn off for me, especially in a narrative based game. When the tutorial is confusing it's not a good sign.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →x-- 7/10 --x What a lovely little RPG!! Beautiful artwork, and the story was intriguing. Pacing seemed a bit slow in some sections, but on a whole it was a fantastic indie RPG
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really like the game, and the story behind it. The beginning of the game has a lot of mechanics it tries to teach you, but it also gives you far more options to shift around your dragons' moves and strategy almost as soon as you get going. I like the battle system's mechanics, especially how you have to balance when you trigger your moves against when your opponent might attack, and stacking buffs and debuffs to manage the situation. Looking forward to finding all of the dragon spirits as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just like dragons
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far half the challenge of the game is trying to understand the translation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really like the art design of the different dragons fun game play too
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a ton of cool ideas that help it stand out for a monster taming game. The translation is incredibly rough, and while it's not bad enough to be funny, it's also not so bad that ideas of plot or theme fail to communicate. My motivation to finish the game is held back by the translation and the kinda disposable nature of the spirits you contract, but I absolutely think this game is worth checking out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dragons all look so cool! Combat is interesting, being real-time and using a gauge. Menu layouts are a bit of a mess, but manageable. Character portraits could use some work, as some portraits look off when compared to others. The English translation is very rough and hard to understand at times. I'd love to dive deeper into the lore, but in its current state it's hard to tell what's going on.
