Sid Meier's Civilization® III Complete
Developer Firaxis Games
Sid Meier's Civilization III is the third installment of the Sid Meier's Civilization turn-based strategy video game series. It was released in 2001, and followed by Civilization IV. Unlike the original game, Civilization III was not designed by Sid Meier, but by Jeff Briggs, a game designer, and Soren Johnson, a game programmer. Civilization III, like the other Civilization games, entails building an empire, from… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Then they came out with civilization 4-5-6 I didn’t like those games, I couldn’t even figure out how to play them. They ruined the best game on earth civilization 3. Civilization 3 is the pinnacle
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arguably, the best Civilization in the entire series. Can't get it to run reliable anymore. They are still selling it, so they should try to keep it workable. Since they don't, I'm gonna have to recommend against people buying it and wasting their money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing this game for 25 years. I was 11 when my mom got it for me at Costco. I have played 1237 hours just in the time I've had it on Steam, maybe 2-3 years. So yeah, it's pretty good. I mostly play for the exploration/settlement aspect, or to conquer everyone on Chieftain mode. Sometimes it's fun to play a huge Pangaea map with 0 other civs, and make two cities really far from each other. Then try to protect the road between them from raging barbarians. Ha ha. I had no idea this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Start a game - Meet another civ - They ask for everything I own - I refuse - They declare war 11/10 realism
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pick it up when it goes on sale. Overall not bad for an older game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't understate what a brilliant game this is. Even in 2026, given what gaming has become, Civ III shines for its complexity of game mechanics. It starts easy: you explore some land, build and connect a few cities. Soon, you'll be playing a chess of a thousand factors -- as you risk a deficit economy to be the first at some tech tree milestone, or pull five adversaries into a complex web of well-timed alliances, allowing you to successfully invade neighbouring territory with your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1 a.m. – just one more turn, then bed 5 a.m. – okay, one more turn now, and then definitely bed 8 a.m. – well, I'll finish the game when I get home from work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They don't build games like this anymore. Its a perfect time-drain for autists wishing to roleplay historical scenarios focused on core dynamics without gimmick distractions. Yes, of course I can explain why tanks loose-out to a spearman or how RNG Jesus keeps my dice rolls between 1-3 - its called guerrilla war, poor logistics and anything else my imagination can justify. Who the hell needs graphics anyways! I sank hours manually clicking 100s stack units for the attack sequence back in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Civilization game. Not even close.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my first & favorite Civ altho IV is more balanced. Very fond of the aesthetics and the modern era music in III has the best music out of all the Civ games. ' Once you learn the mechanics, it's a ton of fun and very hard to stop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This, IMHO, is the best of the civ games. The rest have been continuingly dumbed down to the point of where they are no longer fun to play, Civ 7 takes control away from you and makes you play in Ages whether you are ready to start again or not. With civ 3 with some excellent mods, the game takes on awesome proportions allowing hundreds of cities and thousands of troops and STACKS! you can stack your troops! they took that away in the later games and just killed conflict. As a gamer in my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Click during the 2K logo at startup and it won't crash. Have fun, this game is frustrating as hell
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absorbing and graphics better than later versions which over complicate
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very addictive "one more turn" gameplay burned through many hours. Still find myself regularly going back for another run.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since I first played Civ VI I've bought every game before that (5, 4 and now 3). I'm currently hooked to the game. It is complex (find that the AI is more challenging) and makes me remember of the games I played in my early teenage years in the early 2000. It is quite amazing that I happen to discover Civ this late at my age. I super recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The newer Civilization games have more complexity and sophisticated features. However, I feel Civ3 has the best overall gameplay and fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple to play, very addictive, it's a long game, from start to finish usually around 40 hours. Enjoy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my all time favorite games. Well worth the cost of a latte! Seriously wish it was supported on Mac-IOS!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →between 2 steam accounts and 1 disk version, 4 laptops and 2 PCs one of the best games i've ever had the pleasure of touching. there is not much I have not done: . modded it . made mods . played comp . did a 6 friend game . gone from lowest ai diff to highest as such there isnt many people more qualified to review it. it was one of the first games I played and if I had 24 hours to live the two things I would do is watch ' a bridge too far' and play this. pros: . huge map . looks old but still…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game would not open correctly on my desktop. I could find no way to fix this through steam
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my dad got me into this game its hard to grasp some concepts but once you do its pretty fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic civ! This installment (while not without its flaws) provides probably the most straight-forward civ gameplay with a LOT of charm. There are a few systems that have been much more refined in more recent installments into the franchise, but I do keep coming back to this absolute classic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shields are hammers. Cities and roads make money instead of costing money. Build "wide" empires, not "tall". Always settle available land before fighting a war. Combat probability is: (your attack) divided by (enemy's defense + your attack). Congratulations. You now know how to play Civ III.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civ 3 is my favorite game of all time. I played it when it came out and this steam version works, plays and functions the same way. I think it is amazing that this functions so well. Spend the couple of bucks and you'll have a game to play for years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic game I've played since I was a kid. Still one of my favorite strategy games to this day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They changed so little and yet it plays so much differently compared to Civ 2. If you wanted to develop tiles in Civ 2, you needed to build settlers and make them work. Now, every time you take an enemy city, you enslave multiple workers, so each and every turn involves giving orders to literally dozens of workers. It takes 1 slave 6 turns to build a road, but it takes 6 slaves 1 turn to build a road. So each turn you move those slaves 1 square up and then the next turn you click "build…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy this game. It crashes on start up. I tried some of the fixes posted in Steam chat back in 2017, but they don't work. It crashes before even the first map can load.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exactly the same as you would remember it. There may be like a dozen people on at a time for multiplayer. I think I had to find a workaround for this to actually play, but still worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civ 3 Complete was the last of the old style Civ. It is just a game that I really enjoyed playing...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best civ game ever... before the taking over and battles got lame...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play this game for 20 years and it never bores me. And ill play it till the end of my life. It is so awesome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everyone needs to know. You can make the Barbs in this one dinosaurs. I think its only on one map tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dark souls 2 of civ games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't the best game of the series, but it holds up very well and it is a great value for what you will pay for it. It will basically cost you about a penny per hour at the current price!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game before I knew about steam. This game is great for computers that can't run the newer version and is straight to the point with basic graphics. This is for the strategy of Civilization.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Civilization III is undeniably dated, frequently unfair, and sometimes exhausting. It is also, in my opinion, still the best game in the series. My Steam playtime is comparable to what I have accumulated in Civilization V and VI, but that number barely reflects how much time I have actually spent with the game. Long before I owned it digitally, I played thousands of hours from a physical disc that was eventually worn down by years of use. There is no shortage of flaws. The limited resolution…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay didn't age well, and takes a lot of tinkering to get running on a modern system. The claims that Civ 3 has the best gameplay of the series are flat out wrong. There are several arbitrary and needlessly punishing mechanics, like stacks of 8x barbarian horsemen that can spawn right in front of your settlers that can essentially put you in an unrecoverable state. UI is old but serviceable once you get the hang of it. Moving units can be a little clunky, it's easy to forget a unit making…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Peak Civ3 experience is looking through old forums from 20 years ago trying to figure out how to add custom music. Also playing a 2 year-long send-by-email game with your cousin who got called up to the National Guard halfway through the game and had to take an 8 month break.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing this game on and off for years. It's the Mike Tyson of Civilization games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It may be an older game but it still holds up. One of my favorites
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, I finally managed to play it under Proton. Besides the addition of KeepRes=1 and PlayIntro=0 to the conquests.ini, I can only use the Proton 5.3-16 version and had to tinker with the gdi32.dll.so to finally show the land textures (otherwise, it will be a black screen with the units "floating"). Haven't played it for a long time, will be back once I play it more. UPDATE: Using C3X mod made this game playable under the latest version of Proton. You can run the install.bat using winetricks…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →already started this game before april fools day and it obstinately won't let me build anything stronger than a spearman in terms of defensive units. edit: i am able to build swordsman now, iron mines require roads connected to town/city
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i remember playing this game i think 20 yrs ago on my old gateway xp computer, would play all day and night, brings back so many memories this game was so cutting edge back then and still is one of the best
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for an old man like me ,perfect, first time i ever played the series was on the playstion one ,sure is way better than console or later versions, feels like a complete game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OG Game of Civ, also it costs only a dollar to get access to all content here. The game's learning curve is medium to hard, but if you watch enough videos and read tutorials in fandoms etc. you will get better in the game progressively.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best civ game to date.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have to ♥♥♥♥ with the INI to play but the only civ game I ever played it wins
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to enjoy this game, i really do, but its just so SLOW, i cant see the appeal. I mean it takes hundreds of years for a swordsman to march from your city to the enemy city
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, really enjoyed it, Challenging but very addictive, when you lose you just want to jump straight back in and try again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is years old and I still keep coming back to play it. Its probably my Favorite Civ, even though I love the later editions as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not the best civ game but there are things about it that the others don't have. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best and cleanest Civ game ever made, still undefeated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to play the game but the game won't let me. Started with screen resolution issues and I fixed those, then the game crashed every time my PC tried to load a map. As a 25 year old game, I would expect it to run properly on a potato let alone my rig. I don't expect them to support a 25 year old game but if you're not going to support it into a state where it runs then stop selling it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best of the civ games,

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm unable to explain why this is the case, but running Civ 3 consistently causes LibreOffice to crash on my system and it's the only game or program I've ever run (including other games of similar age to Civ 3) that's managed to do this lol. Otherwise the game is the same Civ 3 you remember and you probably already know if you want to play it or not so the reviews are mostly worthless to veteran players except to note oddities like I've experienced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a big fan of 4X games, this one even changed my screen resolution then lunched itself on the secondary monitor and wouldn't let me close it- but my friend says I'm not allowed to negatively review it, so there we go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic. The ur-game for micro decisions and incremental rewards leading to very addictive gameplay. Outside reality folds on itself when you play this game. Hours become days in minutes, it seems.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game and with mods like CCM3 and the flintlock patch, even better. Modders have now managed to get rid of immersion breaking bugs like the houseboat bug and other stuff like AI not knowing how to use armies. The game is a masterpiece unlike the recent iterations
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Straight forward and even a bit simple Civilization, at least looking back from IV, V, VI and VII it seems that way :-) With this guide you can play it on Windows 11 2026 without any problems: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=377108818 Music is bad, deactivate it, but the game itself is solid. Just ... old. So, you would probably prefer a later Civilization game.
