positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So close to being a really special game. The aesthetics, theming, artwork, and game design are solid. But it suffers two great flaws: Campaign mode is a tutorial that gives us a taste of what a fully-developed campaign with story could have been, but then drops you into arcade-game play with no more world building or writing. More importantly, as many have noted, the game balance is off and you can have many hours of thoughtful play ruined by random catastrophe. I visited a region with a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally, I left a negative review for this game, because the "campaign" made it seem like there is no save option (not for one halt/level, not even for the entire run), nor a "reset turn" function, which is also mentioned in some negative reviews. Upon completing the "campaign", however, I ventured into the "play" section of the game. What I found was that, first, this part of the game does indeed have both a save function, and a reset turn function. Second, the "play" section is, in fact,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really, REALLY want to like this game. I love the concept and the "idea" of the basic gameplay loop. Interesting setting and lore. Graphics are fun and pretty enough for me. I am going to continue playing it so I may in fact update my review to positive if something clicks and I start to enjoy it more. BUT... The main hurdle you're faced with is just random punishments that pop up with a few turns warning. Generally not enough time to actually take any action to meaningfully…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pray to the RNGod and hope. That's the whole game, even if you manage your resources, take the easiest path, plan in advance something so random will happen that will make your entire run pointless. Oh you finally managed to collect all the resources to go to the next area? Too bad, you need 300 of this also, wait you have only 6 cycles/turns left? Damn, might as well restart. I wanted to like the game, the idea - Awesome, the execution - Awful. 4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to recommend this game with the caveat that what everyone is saying about this game being difficult is correct and also an understatement. The game isn't just difficult. The game regularly generates scenarios that are outright impossible to complete. It generated a game level for me where I had to collect 500 ore, and the map it generated had 0 ore on it. Ok, that's fine. You can just trade for ore, right? Wrong, because the trading ratio for ore was 1/20, and there physically…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is bizarre. I held off writing a review for a long time, because this is one of those games that I would give a sideways thumb or a neutral review if I could. It has a lot of aspects I like, but also a considerable amount I don't, but in the end I gave it a recommendation because I think it's a great game for a specific subset of people -- the game has plenty of polish, and some of the aspects that I would take the most points away for are also some of the ones with the greatest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Fun concept, but there are huge design issues. Your ability to win very much depends on pure luck and much less on skill. You often get unwinnable maps that will make things utterly frustrating. Especially since you have to win a run with a tribe to unlock another one. Good: - Can be a fun resource management game in Custom mode. - The concept of deciding between buildings that you leave or making them follow you with their upgrades. They cost different resources so it is a nice layer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOT REWARDING As Far As The Eye is a hybrid of a strategy game and a roguelike, where players must effectively manage resources to survive on randomly generated terrains. Sounds like something that may be fun, right? In practice, the game is extremely frustrating and simply too hard. Hard difficulty when done right can be satisfying, but in this case, I never felt rewarded. I don't even think that the As Far As The Eye is bad. I like the general idea of it, and the basic mechanics are solid.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i am having fun, but there is a dev oversight problem. I encountered an unwinnable scenario where i couldn't progress to the next "halt" because the current one only had 300 stone and progressing required 360. This programming error in the procedural generation made continuing impossible and forces me to fail, losing all the time and energy put into the campaign. It is a clear oversight and needless to say very annoying. I hope the devs see this comment, but i will still give the game a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →within 3 turns of starting my first game, a hailstorm started. The tutorial was telling me to do stuff like harvest wood and make buildings, but the hailstorm was hurting my guys while they were harvesting and the buildings were destroyed shortly after making them. I wondered if I was supposed to just wait it out and hid my people in the caravan thinking the hailstorm would end. It did not and they starved. I tried another run and the hailstorm didn't happen. So I guess a certain % of runs are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a good game in here, with a lot going right. What holds it back are the UI, excessive micro managing, and general lack of Quality of Life features. I don't think the RNG is overly combative, but for an economy focused 4x game, the UI and lack of save creates an issue where it's easy to make a simple mistake that can snowball your whole playthrough attempt into oblivion. The tutorial campaign is charming. I wish there was more story like this in the game. The random generated…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent idea poorly implemented. I paid <$7 for this on sale and even at that price I'm kind of irritated with how bad the balance is. Usually these type of games have multiple paths of victory and you must read the map and situation to execute a win. I love difficult games with razor-thin victory margins. But with AFATE, it's always a coin toss; what negative events you get dealt, what negative traits you get dealt. They can end a run early on with no way to adapt. This being a 'roguelike' I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: 7/10 Graphics & Sound: 8/10 Narration: 7/10 ✔️ Creative and interesting game mechanics, compressing a colony management game into a roguelike experience. ✔️ Cute and cozy graphics & sound design. ❌ The game is just too difficult in my opinion. Its general mood doesn't prepare you at all for how difficult it is to actually complete a run. Not only you have to juggle with tons of resources to build structures, feed your characters, and advance in the game - but the game also punishes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the story very much, the graphics a little and some of the mechanics mostly. However, there are too many random game ending events which no amount of preparation can ward against. Whilst I may still try to finished the remaining scenarios, it has quickly become repetitive and I am not really having much fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to enjoy this game. When there's hope of being able to beat a level, I do. But it's unnecessarily unforgiving. You can't undo a turn. If you overlook one thing, or don't juggle seven different tasks all at once, all your work is just for nothing, and you lose. There's no difficulty settings for the main game. And even after 40+ hours of playing, with 8 different tribe choices, I've won a grand total of once. This is the first time I've ever stopped playing a game I liked because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to love this game. I do. It wants to be a tough resource management game, with lots of potential ways forward and with little margin for error. And I am highly in favor of that style of game and am happy to put hundreds of hours into figuring out those sharp learning curves and finessing the balances between manpower and resources (and I'm not exaggerating; look at my listed hours for resource management games.) But as lovely as this is to look at and as ambitious as it is with its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a prewarning now: this game is intentionally difficult, there are definetly strategies and ways to succeed, but it will take many tries to, and despite the tutorial, there is minimal guidance on how to win this game is a true roguelike in which to say, you win by dying if you do not enjoy difficult games or roguelikes, i would not recommend this game however, if you want to try a roguelike with an interesting twist, i would highly recommend this game as far as the eye mixed ecological…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs some serious re-balancing, way to many resources needed to just feed 3 people. Was unable to make an progress because my people kept dying over and over again do to lack of food even though I had people gathering food.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept based on 4X games, where you have to gather different resources to move to the next level. But instead of fighting enemies to create a challenge, the game throws random negative perks at you that often ruin the plans you have in mind. Things like suddenly losing 500 skill points without any means to prevent this felt unfair to me and became even frustrating in the longer runs. Not my cup of tea.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It brings me great sadness to post this review. Amazing game so so so much fun. However, there is an RNG get bent problem. Others have mentioned it, but literally, you will be placed on a map with no resources that you need to move to the next map. There is trading, but the exchange ratio was still so high that it was impossible. You bring stuff with you, but the requirements are well above what you travel with. After the 3rd time, when I was 4 hours into a run and lost completely to pure,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's beautiful to look at and feels a nice world to play in. That said, the gameplay itself just feels...underdone. Unbalanced. I gave it a good try but felt frustrated and a bit bored enough after half an hour that I just didn't feel like booting it back up again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful and frustrating. It somehow feels like I'm missing something vital that I'm expected to already know.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I initially enjoyed this game. Civ style strategy games always have a spot in my heart, specially when they do something different like AFATE. I've played it for 4 hours and really liked the narrative, the mechanics and the way you carry items to the next levels with this tetris-style bag management. But then I got annoyed by repetitive tasks and the bad UI. After almost three years I decided to play it again and there's almost no improvements since the first time I played. I really hope this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is nice, but there's a big issue with the campaign: you can't save! Even if there are no more than 2 jumps in the first 4 chapters, I found it impossible to finish chapter 4! Lack of time, restart the whole chapter! Wrong planning in first run? Restart! Game crash? Restart! And the game did crashed right when I finished chapter 4. I didn't manage to see the ending, nor did I get an achievement. The free play has another design issue: you don't have all the tribes unlocked at first,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun aesthetics and concept with TERRIBLE (read non-existent) balance. Sometimes no matter how good you plan ahead, there's no way to win a scenario because of RNG factors (way too frequent calamities or terrible map constraints). For example, once I ended up on a map where there're no stone tiles and stone is the primary win condition. Trading is too restricted (10:1 ratio!) so it was impossible to win within time. There is NO manual save option and each scenario has multiple maps so if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute game, but randomisation means you can be screwed and lose through no fault of your own. Choices are consequential, but given the procedural nature you have no way of knowing if you've made the right choice until it ends. Multiple times I got to the end of a zone and realised that by choosing to focus on a particular resource I basically killed myself. Frustrating, but the art style and music are cute and calming
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to say this but...the reason why I can't play this game is because of the color palette (scheme). Yes, it's mainly orange and brown. At first I thought I'd be OK with this as I've honestly never judged a game based solely on the color scheme. However, for some reason to me, I just can't get myself to play this game. I play for a maximum of 15 minutes and I somehow can't get over it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept of this game seemed nice to me: a tile-based city builder with roguelike elements, resource-management, and colorful graphics. However, the game is more a puzzle game than it is a city builder, and I felt too limited in what I could do. I really don't think the "city builder" tag is accurate in this case, so if you're looking for something like that, you will likely be disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this is like dating a particularly hot therapist/psych student. They know they can do better than you, and they will notice every potentially problematic thing about you - and what's most likely to happen is that eventually they'll dump you, without you truly realising what you even did wrong. But if you have enough patience, knowledge and willingness to learn, you'll be awarded with an incredible experience like no other. In other words, the game is hard; and for all the wrong…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little bit too brutal for me. Three hours in and I've yet to complete a single run on apparently the easiest difficulty. It's nigh impossible to juggle ten+ resources with the three starting characters, and if you get a fourth they just sit there and eat all the food because they don't have a house. I was excited to try this game out but I'm pretty disappointed, to be honest. It feels like a waste.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game requires a massive investment of time to figure out how to do very little. Maybe it's rewarding for someone willing to invest this time. Like if you're on a desert island with only one game to play. And an electrical source. But no, it's not what I want.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Only recommend on a sale, not full price* Chill but unforgiving. The music, art style, and game design lure you into a sense of comfort but the game mechanics actually prove quite challenging beyond the first couple of scenarios. Be prepared to overcome a lot of potentially cataclysmic RNG or lose; a lot. If you're into heavy min-maxing resource and turn management polished with a chill veneer then you'll like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls ui and game design for this game is what kills it in my opinion For example the fact that units are selected after some commands but not others makes giving the wrong command to the wrong unit a common occurrence. The amount of times you need to restart because the game changes who you have selected about 5 seconds after a turn has already started... There are countless notifications for everything you are already aware of, but nothing for the things you are not. Like bakeries…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost interest pretty quickly after the tutorial. The fact that you need to plan what resources you need to harvest now, that you will only need several maps later is an unneccesary complication. The gameplay itself is clunky and unintuitive (that the characters need to return to the "town square" to "change faces" is, again, unneccesary). It also takes too long to play compared to the amount of things that happen, which means it becomes boring. I am not sure if I will return to this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to love here. The gameplay is fun, the graphics, gorgeous, and the worldbuilding, fantastic. I like this type of game and the various genres being mashed together here. But overall, once I got through the Campaign (which is a very challenging tutorial, but also maybe not a tutorial), I kept dying. I spent some time getting better (it is a rogue-like in many aspects) and watching videos of other players to see if I was missing something obvious. I don't think I am. I think the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some interesting concepts in here, but: - Most of your time will be spent hitting End Turn, often ten or twenty times in a row. - The UI is terrible - The tutorial is terrible, long, and overwhelming - The map is cluttered and it can be hard to select your units and understand what anyone is actually doing - The game is unforgiving (yo I got a game over during the third tutorial of five) - The game talks about things that... doesn't exist? It kept telling me in the tutorial that I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would really love to recommend this game, but I just can't. It looked so promising in the beginning and I was really looking forward to playing it. After 5h in, I decided to quit. It looks gorgeous and the gameplay with the different skill trees could be so much fun, but the rest of the gameplay is just hindering. It feels like on one hand you need to micromanage every aspect, which I like, but on the other hand, you are not given the tools to do so. For example I did not find a way to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is hard, but I like it hard.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →luck based. if i need x resources to get from a to b, i would hope that the procedurally generated area would support that. just saying
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have finished the tutorial campaign, and played through most of a campaign. I really love the style of this game. The music is great. It's very reminiscent of Terranil and Dorfromantik. But it's a wholly other type of builder game. I think this game is quite fun in a lot of ways, there is an enjoyable game play loop in here even if it is somewhat brutal and arbitrary. I like the art style and, what little there is of it, world building in the writing. I hope in a future update they take a cue…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorial is truly awful. It's very poorly designed. Once you get past the terrible tutorial, the game improves, even though there are plenty of things that are not explained in the tutorial. The learning curve is steep. Expect to fail out of the gate. Heck, you might even fail the tutorial. Once you learn the game play, there's a fun game here.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave it a go, but it's just not fun. The concept is just too slow and obtuse to be fun. I can still enjoy a game that is slow OR obtuse, but not both at the same time. So it's just a 'hard no' for this game. Ontop of that, the regional pricing is terrible for the game and it's over 500% too expensive in multiple 3rd world regions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this and I would love to play it more but I cant get past the basic levels after the campaign. I've killed so many tribes people - Instead of relaxing and playing the game, I'm getting frustrated that I cant accomplish anything - I'm always struggling - AND there is no Easy mode. I wouldn't recommend this Game - even tho I love the concept, the art, the story etc etc. I wish it was different
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe I'm gonna say this about a chill turn-based resource management game, but the recent negative reviews have forced my hand Git gud Buy it on sale though
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never have I had so many mixed feelings about a game. It's fun. It's impossible. Imagine a roguelike game in which you die a lot but never actually get stronger. The game relies heavily on RNG that is outright terrible at times, like sticking you in a halt with zero wood and giving you the goal of gathering 500 wood. Or giving you a pupil with the cooking specialty, but then giving them a trait that forbids them from cooking. The "campaign" is a brief tutorial that doesn't teach much, and a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is pretty broken mechanically. feels unforgiving, you have all these choices to play with but there really isn't a lot of ways you can win. I really wanted to like this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its very cliche for a review to start but I dont understand all the negativity for this game. Its a cute little board game with an interesting alternative to the very Euro-centric heavy genre. Its never gonna compete with CIV with it being a small studio and the price point reflects that. Ive spent a long time playing, usually in small run attempts. You will loose more then you win but thats sort of expected. It also wants you to be planning more of your journey in advance. There is always ways…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is gorgeous and the concept is great, but the tutorial is lacking and incredibly easy, then the main game is incredibly difficult. Recommendations to the game devs: 1. If your pupils aren't doing anything because they're waiting for resources, that would also be a great thing to get notified about. 2. The icons on the side with updates, left click details and right click close? They both close. There's no way to see details. 3. I frequently had visitors passing through and no…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has impressive art and music but the gameplay destroyed everything. Many ppl only mentioned it's hard, but the reason why it's not fun is the way of 'hard'. The binding of Issac is hard, but it's because you are not familiar with the bosses/items, and you will build confidence while playing since you know what will happen and will plan for it. However AFATE has a totally different feeling of "hard". In the first few patches you are facing totally random events which will ruin the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much RNG, some situations are straight up unsalvagable. After a 2 hour run of carefully considering options I just lost because one little guy just stood in place instead of returning resources
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know if it's just me or not, but this game is too hard for me, I've tried different approaches and seem to work but always at the end it never does and it makes me not want to continue playing it.... maybe I will give it another try some other time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the game, but it can end in deadlock quite often. It is a hard game to get through as a lot is thrown at you and at time you just get to a reign that don't have what you need and you can't progress. Despite this I still like the challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely beautiful art style that does not give away the punishing gameplay. In As Far As The Eye, you play as the wind, guiding a nomadic tribe to safe land. I very much enjoy the different take on the resource-management genre, with the journey broken up into multiple halts and obstacles. The short-term goal is simply to make it to the next halt before the step counter runs out and the flood arrives. The non-combative gameplay focuses on harvesting different resources instead, and actually…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As Far As The Eye is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's seems somewhat out of place for Nintendo Switch due to the complexity of the game... remembering that Nintendo Switch gamers, who this is apparently aimed at, find Pokemon and Super Mario Bros to be extremely complex games. And complicated this is... which I would normally welcome from any game but the way this is put together doesn't seem to "work", which for me seems like a great shame. One important note is that even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It might look interesting at first (the campaign), but normal missions are pain to progress. need some serious strategy skills here to complete this game. tutorial is terrible
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is pretty and interesting but DIFFICULTY is tuned so HIGH it kills any enjoyment of the game. There is limited amount of times that you can start over from begginings without making any overall progress before it gets anoying. Yes, You can get better at the game but even then whole run can be screwed by single random event.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept for the game is pretty good, but the difficulty is just brutal. You can just have random catastrophes happen one after another, destroying everything you've created. You can also end up on a plot of land, where you need to gather a bunch of wood, and there's almost no trees. Meaning you have to build a Market and trade for it, but it takes like 8 of something else to get 1 wood. Overall the balance just seems wrong. I got it heavily on sale, so I don't feel I got ripped off, but it…
