Plenty of things to upgrade and 3 different characters to play. Take on hordes of aliens and try to survive, a simple and enjoyable premise! The story and graphics are good enough, and the game is plenty of fun despite it's age.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shadowgrounds was a pretty doesn't shooter a few years ago, but Survivor doesn't really do much new, and is pretty boring. As a top down shooter you play as a marine who is trying to escape a ruined base that is overrun by aliens. The weapons are pretty generic with shotguns, assault rifles, flamethrowers, grenades etc. You can pick up health packs, ammo, and OK you know this formula already. Unlike other better shooters like Alien Shooter the game doesn't even offer intense moments. There are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cons: The first hour and half of the game feels like DLC content. The story is super weak basically piggy backing off the original game, but without the build up. Bascially, you are running and gunning it from the beginning. The story gets a little better as you go through as the main objective of the game becomes clear. A couple of bugs throughout the game like getting stuck in a doorway as the level starts, double images on one level, and sometimes the shotgun wasn't working on the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like its immediate predecessor, Survivor is a top-down shooter that hearkens back to the days of Smash TV and Total Carnage, except that there is a much more detailed plot and a heavy nod to role-playing games. As opposed to the blanket machine-part upgrade system of Shadowgrounds, Survivor has implemented a more refined approach, with unique class abilities, general class abilities and weapon abilities tailored to each of the three characters. Basic gameplay is still kill or be killed, run…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Compared to the original Shadowgrounds, it's lacking. Using almost entirely recycled assets, Survivor manages to have even less content than the basegame. The presence of three playable characters with unique skills (accompanied by a leveling system) and "unique" arsenals composed of weapons from the original game is offset by the absence of bosses (A single boss is present in one of the early levels - directly copied from the original Shadowgrounds, after which none are seen again), smaller…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased Shadowgrounds: Survivor along with the main game Shadowgrounds. There's not much of a difference between the two; same gameplay style, same setting. But Shadowgrounds: Survivor lets you play as different characters as the story progresses. Speaking of story, there isn't really much of a story compared to Shadowgrounds, but that is not to say that Shadowgrounds: Survivor is bad in anyway. You just have to kill the bad aliens and that's the most important part. Shadowgrounds:…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Infuriating garbage game without lore, story or any kind of goal. The only thing you do is playing a marine that says almost nothing and fights through hoards of enemys. The first part had good characters, lore, story, a bunch of fun weapons etc. This one has nothing of those. It is an empty husk. My rating 2/10, do not buy this game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun top-down alien shooter. Campaign mode took about 5 hours while playing casually. Survival is pretty fun too. I never played the first game but I found this to be enjoyable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →more of an expansion pack than its own thing, even though these days it costs more than the original (10 eur vs. 5). much to my surprise, I enjoyed this more than the first one, even though I'm not one for tower defense-like gameplay. on half the levels here you're stuck in a room, ward off waves of enemies, but shorter stages make the save system more tolerable (the first game has big-ass maps with no checkpoints) and the story switches between multiple characters with their own point of view…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more like a weird combination of a full game crammed in to a decent expansion, new elements tried so was refreshing but for me not as good as the original game shadowgrounds but well worth it. I still had LOTS of fun but the above is more about when you load in to it and you realise the devs defiantly tried something new and you know what they did a good enough job for me and def would recommend as I finished the game very happy and I had fun, so respect to devs actually doing…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: Broken Game! This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game does not launch and cannot be played due to dependencies on ancient NVidia PhysX drivers. The developer refuses to fix this terminal fault. Shadowgrounds Survivor was a sci-fi themed top down shooter with lightweight adventure/RPG elements. The game no longer works on modern editions of Windows due to dependencies on drivers. You can go into the settings menu, but as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a lot of fun. It is expansion pack for original game Shadowgrounds, but it works as a standalone. I had fun and some good exciting action playing this game, and I liked story a lot, it was simple but yet engaging, and I could easily put myself in a position of this poor guy that had to endure whole kind of hard situations. It is old game, and it is pretty short game, I ended it in few hours, but never the less, it is worth the small price that it costs. Also, I played it few…

This sequel... has way more problems, and some really really require you to troubleshoot before you can even continue playing... or... having patient with the crash crash crash and hope that you will get pass the level and won't crash restarting everytime from the start... positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such an excellent game. Well-structured and well-written (though the plot was predictable, the characters were memorable and brilliantly voiced), with a consistently creepy aesthetic and a very good soundtrack. Never unfair, but often punishingly hard. One of my all-time favorites. (But seriously, what is with all the people complaining about graphics? This was released in _'07_, you lackwits. Of course it's not up to modern standards - but it IS leagues better than the original.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most people that've played the original Shadowgrounds can agree that it's a hidden gem among isometric shooters. The game has pretty much everything going for it; engaging gameplay, immersive atmosphere, a great soundtrack, and a ton of blood. For an older game from 2006, it's aged remarkably well despite not being able to play it in a 1080p or higher resolution. It's only right that one should assume the same success from its follow up release, Shadowgrounds Survivor, which was released a year…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everybody complains about Shadowgrounds Survivor but I must defend this one. It's ok. That's it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as fun as the first one! They split the game into different storylines this time and gave each character a different skill set and weapons, which I actually liked better. With the first game, I basically picked my favorite weapon and used that the entire game, whereas I had to use each one for different situations this time. There are even a couple of mech levels thrown in to add a bit of variety, otherwise same game play style. There are a few game ending bugs, but those have been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, let me say that I needed to install two separate drivers to run this game. (Win 10-64bit) I bought this game since I played Shadowgrounds and loved it. The story is hardly engaging and the enemies just keep coming for the sake of it, unlike the story based fight scenes in Shadowgrounds. There is plenty of ammo and medkits which just makes everything easier. Thanks to all this, there is no excitement in the game at all. The game is also very short. I finished it in under 4 hours.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure why but this game showed up in my inventory one day in like 2012. Ended up playing the orignial first and being pleasantly surprised. This one though has almost no story, is lacking almost all the tension of the first and has worse progression as well as being a buggy mess that you will need to use multiple work arounds to even get to run much less play through to the end. Worst of all it has none of the awesome bosses! The only upside is the weapons split up into multiple characters…

I enjoyed playing cooperative in the first game, however, this game has been entirely unplayable on Steam for all of the years I have owned it. I have since tried it on Windows 7 x64 Pro, Windows 8, 8.1 and 10. It simply will NOT load properly. It boots fine. I can navigate the menu and change options, but the second I try to start a game, it simply exits to the Desktop. No error or anything. The game just stops running. I have…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm hesitant to reccomend this at $9.99 which is honestly quite steep considering the game is severly dated and I had issues relating to physx working properly. However in our current age of multi-currency always online live service based free to play interconnected """"""games"""""", It's nice to just shoot something for a few hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could not play this game properly due to it crashing on startup.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid shooter that pits you against Aliens-esque hordes in a dark, atmospheric and partially-destructible sci-fi environment. Very well realised with simple but compelling levels, crisp controls, and satisfying combat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shadowgrounds Survivor does make some minor improvements this time around and does provide a fun experience. The only problem for me is that it's repetitive. After an hour or so, you just get bored of shooting the same aliens over and over. I really wanted to like this one and I felt that it (like the first shadowgrounds) held a lot of potential. But with a blah story and meaningless missions (shoot aliens, walk around, shoot aliens, shoot aliens, computer terminal, shoot aliens) my attention…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first Shadowgrounds kind of typified the linear top-down shooter type in terms of design and was overlong, but had its moments. Survivor attempts to establish more of an identity for itself by offering multiple characters with multiple skill-sets, but this makes the balance and level design suffer. It's just hard to imagine quite what the developers were hoping to accomplish beyond the most surface level aspirations with such a change.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I enjoyed my 5 hours playing it, I find it hard to recommend this game to anyone. If you played Shadowgrounds, and didnt like it, you likely wont like this one as well. It is sliiightly better gameplay vise, because I think some AI got improved slightly, enemy placement were harder to fight off, but that could be because I played on hard difficulty this time instead of normal. If you DID like Shadowgrounds, you might be disappointed by how short it is(yes, 5 hours is the whole…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, but fun top-down shooter. It is a standalone DLC for Shadowgrounds, so you should play that first. I don't see why this is just mixed, and Shadowgrounds is very positive. I think both are equally good and cheap
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even so, the shooting part feels better; the rest of the game feels worse for me, especially after playing Shadowgrounds just before this game. The constant we put you in a tiny room and swarm you with enemies just makes no fun. What annoyed me too was what was rare in the predecessor: we spawn enemies behind you in rooms you just cleared. The story was okay in addition to Shadowgrounds, but it feels worse for me in all aspects except the shooting part because you now have more ammunition for…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good. The game is a top-down shooter with little RPG elements on it. This sequel is a little bit shorter than the first game. It looks better too. The story is simple but it's OK. 3 survivors instead of one. No bugs or crashes. Runs fine on Win 7. Probably is kinda more action-oriented than the first one, which had some elements of suspense and horror. That is not a bad thing, it gets intense and is fun. Several weapons and plenty of enemies. It includes cards. I think the little differences…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok game, not a bad shooter, but it's plagued with issues that the devs know about but won't fix. A well known issue is a crash on a near end level. Devs solution is to download another save game, and load from there. Don't buy this game, and don't buy from these devs who only do a half finished product. It's a shame since the game would have been recommended if it wasn't for the awful bugs.
