i bought this game right after it released into early access. and im ngl, im pretty disappointed how it turned out. the additions from then till now are pretty minimal, the gameplay loop is seriously lacking purpose (it's basically just a sandbox still), and the developer jumped from v0.4 straight to version 1.0... and although there is still missing content labeled as "coming soon" in game, this is now apparently a full release somehow.. so yeah, im kinda bummed, i was expecting a little…

Around when I first caught wind of this game I played a rather decent bit of it before I decided to sit back and wait. I liked the gameplay, but the game had plenty of features that still needed to be implemented. So I continued to watch updates, and at first I was quite pleased. Over the months, features kept coming every so often. The 1.0 update was sudden, and odd, but I thought nothing of it at the time. It was made clear that while the game was considered done there was still plenty of…

I'm sure this product will improve given enough input by the developers, but at the moment the food and production systems seem just..well..broken. I am producing meat from 2 Hunting Lodges, Wheat from 8 farms and cabbages from 4 farms for 58 citizens in Summer, and yet my citizens keep starving and I can't improve my standing with the Gods or raise enough Legions to defend the city. Advice from the developers include "saving and restarting", but that really shouldn't be necessary (and…

The game just isn't fun. I keep trying to force myself to play it because I really like base builders / city builders. But it's really just mundane, and they have stupid requirements like having to build 4 wheat fields before you can build a cabbage field even though you know how to build a cabbage field AND they've let you expend the resources to research it ... but oh, aren't you an idiot!! And yes, that was just the straw that broke the camel's back in a game that has all kinds of…

I purchased this game to help the developer (one man/woman?) with no intention of playing the game. However, this old man, a baby boomer, decided to open it one thunder stricken day. To my delight I found that the developer realized that there are folks out there who do not like mythological games or, for that matter,, fighting games. So he gives multi choices of game play. Huzza. I have given the fighting game a chance and I love it. What's more I can play it. Great Buildings, good graphics.…

Just awful. I feel nothing but rage and malice when I play this thing called a "game". their idea of difficulty is wiping out 30% of your entire population in a plague or "accident". Btw, if you lose a big portion of your colony, the entire thing will fall somehow. the game is very poorly optimized. seems like it was heavily rushed and released early to make money. whether its 30 people or 300, it takes hours to make up the difference. this game is a massive waste of time. it makes you feel…

In the old Zeus game, gods monsters and heroes strutting around town was an average Tuesday, and that felt normal - after all, that's how Ancient Greece was like, according to Homer anyway. Rome meanwhile has always been a much more grounded setting - with religion present yet commonly handled in a realistic manner. The author deviates from what's customary, and makes hydra and dragon attacks one of the key points of the game, with plans to add more. This immediately apparent feature is…

My Honest review about this game. I have seen city builders come and go which is why this game is quite unique from others. However there are things in the game so far I have noticed which I will gradually edit this review to add. The button to exit the game is non-functional on the main menu. I press it, and nothing occurs, so I can't leave the game; I need to use Alt + F4. If you remain idle for roughly 3 or 4 minutes, a trailer will play in the main menu. Even with the volume lowered, it…

This is just not it. I played the demo a while back, and I am not sure what changed. But now it is over complicated with too many menus, too many options, and nothing really seems to do anything. It needs to be streamlined. There is also no campaign, its just sandbox.

There are a million city builders out there that are all pretty similar. There are also plenty of really poor ones. Honestly, this one is nothing special except to say that it not one of the countless low-quality city builders flooding the landscape. If you like Age of Empires and similar, but have played those games to death, this game will not disappoint. It is more of that same level of game play, but with a different theme. The AI is well above average for the genre and overall the game…

Good game, but definitely has flaws. Like: The game telling me I'm making 400+ food per month, but I always end up losing. I'm assuming soldier food consumption is not calculated into net food gain. I've had multiple famines because of false information. Really enjoy the combination of tower defense, base building and city planning though!

Finally, a city-builder where my citizens don’t complain about traffic—they complain about hydras eating their neighbors. Balance food, faith, and fortifications while bribing the gods not to smite your crops. Not a bad game, building is fun, UI is fine and its a good game overall. But the enemy spawn is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and makes it pretty much unplayable. I've found a nice valley, one chokepoint, secured it and played a couple of hours building up. Now a horde spawns in my valley and there's no way to come back from that. No way to predict it. Last 10 attacks came frome somewhere outside, this simply should not happen. ♥♥♥♥ this game, life's too short for this.

I'm about 30 hours in and have more or less completed my first city. This is a solid game and I'm glad I picked it up. It is well balanced and the supply chains work well which is really refreshing. I do enjoy the way this game tackles religion and mythology as well as there are tangible benefits to appeasing the gods and several ways to do that beyond just "build a temple." This is a conditional recommendation. The game itself is fun. That's what matters. Yeah it's a little janky sometimes, but it's like a tower defense game combined with a Roman survival city builder. In that light it makes more sense. Is it super polished, no, but is it fun? Yeah. Now, my hesitation comes from the release, then total lack of updates. There are features that are still "work in progress" ... but it's a 1.0 release? Not a fan of that. No updates for 4 months now? Not a fan of…

I'm sort of up and down about which way to go here. It's not, bad, per say. It's just not good either. The graphics, responsiveness and general game play feel dated. It reminds me of Empire Earth quite a lot. The pace is VERY slow, and I know you can speed it up, but the amount of micro the game needs; mainly because of the insane worker management system means your constantly slowing it back down. Seriously, I utterly despise the worker management mechanic. It was designed, approved and…

I enjoy playing this game however I really dislike the graphics. I recognize that the person, developer making this is working extremely hard, perhaps they should hire a graphics professional cause the graphics are really shabby. The contrast is off, the levels of colors are way too extreme, it's harsh. One would expect this game to be soft and mellow at least in appearance, but that is not the case. The game play is OK. The sizing layouts of buildings make no sense. If you like grid planning, its broken from the hop. The main building size does not even align with starting house size. While it is a modestly enjoyable game the lack of polish makes it a mediocre game at best and honestly, there also seems to be a lot of 'theft' from other games and I'm really not down with it. For instance, a lot of the games sound track is obviously ripped right out of children of the nile. Combat is a little half assed too. Kind of regret buying this game. I know my hours aren't long in the game at only about 4 hours, but I haven't touched it since. Not as great as I thought it was going to be, RTS elements are very lackluster, not enough variety in the buildings themselves, aqueduct system was bugged out for me, and it ends up feeling like any other city builder but with a roman skin attached to it. Ended up feeling like a cash grab, even if it was just a solo dev.

Thumbs down because I do not like playing games in early access. The 1.0 version of this game should still be in early access. Two items stood out to me. 1. There are numerous things in the rather small tech tree that have a banner saying "Coming Soon". 2. The Phoenix enemy is insane overpowered and can destroy your entire settlement in about 2 minutes

Firm foundations of a great game with a solid road map and an active developer. Developer appears to be solo so don't expect rapid changes, however new features are brought in regularly and the developer has shown that he brings in changes recommended by the player base. Latest update has made improvements in game stability when at larger scales though massive scale cities will require high end hardware on the current patch. Disappointing. The maps are too small and overly cluttered with mountains and lakes and areas you cannot build on, I tried all sorts of combinations. The research system is bland and basic .... I've played a lot of these sorts of city builders and while there's nothing wrong with this one per say I just found it boring. I fell asleep playing it that's the only reason I went over two hours and cannot refund. Hope the devs can make this game more engaging 3/10 from me on this one.

I like this game, though it does need a few more features for better replay-value. 1. Better unit descriptions or an encylopedia-type thing that says what units counter other units. 2. Multiple Settlements. Though this is quite ambitious it would add almost infinite replay value. Like if you finish a settlement then you can leave it and start a new one somewhere else on the map, and you could trade with your old settlement. 3. More low-cost decorative buildings. 4. Conquest system, and this is…

Great game, I just wanted to leave a positive review because the negative ones really don’t make sense. The base building is well done, the research system is a cool concept, and the combat depends on how well you’ve set up your defenses. Sure, it’s not overly complex, but that’s not the point of the game. Just relax, enjoy playing and make a great looking city.

Pretty cool Indie game. Its basically a mix of the old Caesar games and Diplomacy is Not an Option. You build a city and try to keep its citizens alive. It sounds easy but in this game mythology exists meaning that if you piss off any of the gods they will sabotage you. Also there are mythological beasts like Dragons, Hydras and Phoenixes. Also occasionally you will be visited by the locals that want to have a nice vacation trip into your city, plundering it and destroying stuff because what…

You can certainly feel that the person who wrote this has played a lot of these kinds of games. I can feel the Pharaoh/Caesar influences, but also there's influences from Children of the Nile (the music takes me _straight_ back to that game), Banished and Age of Mythology. It's a city-builder made in the style of all the City-Builders the author liked, at least that's what it feels like, and it works really well.

It is a great game ! I have spent years playing games like Caesar III, through Banished, Endzone, more recently Farthest Frontier and I forgot some others. I can say Roman Triumph is a real triumph, a perfect blend of different game mechanics. The game is precise, creative and complete while avoiding unnecessary complications. It is a real joy to pursue once more an emperor career. I highly recommend.
