positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yo first steam review here 12,500+ Hour Veteran Review: The Death of a Sandbox I have played this game since 2018. I have over 12,500 hours logged, mostly as a solo player with about 3/5 time in pvp servers even old hardcore. I have dominated server leaderboards and mastered every mechanic. I am leaving my first-ever Steam review because developers have completely sacrificed the soul of this game for corporate monetization.1. Forced Playstyles and Trend Chasing The Workbench Grind: The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve played Rust for over a thousand hours, but if you’re thinking of joining… don’t. I’m writing this as a warning, not advice. Because Rust isn’t a game. It’s a place. And once you set foot on that island, a part of you stays there forever—usually the part that sleeps peacefully. My first night in Rust, I built a tiny shack. Four walls, a door, a campfire. I felt safe. I shouldn’t have. Because in Rust, safety is just silence before the storm. It started with footsteps. Soft, circling.…

The wife... the kids... the house... even the dog... it's all gone. Was it worth it? Maybe. I don't have the answer for that right now. I do know that I've spent over 6,900 hours of my life wasting away on this game. I haven't played a wipe in over 2 weeks and I'm still having Rust withdrawals. If you're a new player, you'll find out what that means soon enough. I've…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can say it is one of the most calm and relaxing survival games you can play right now. players are always kind, patient and willing to help, especially those with thousands of hours. they really make an effort to guide new players and ensure everyone has a good experience. probably one of the most welcoming communities in gaming. cheating is basically non existent thanks to EAC, it’s been handled really well. never had any issues with cheating at all. best feature that they added in the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Rust thinking it would just be another survival game I’d mess around in for a weekend. I’d seen clips of raids, roof camping, and funny naked players running around with rocks, and I figured: “Yeah, I’ll try it out. Looks chaotic but fun.” That was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. At first, Rust felt amazing. The tension of hearing footsteps outside your base, the fear when a helicopter flies overhead, the rush of finding your first gun — it was all addictive in a way I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You spawn on the beach with a russian kid already chasing you with all his might trying to bash your head in with a rock instead of making progress and going into the map and enjoying the game, After you have made it out of the beach you will find even more russians camping and zerging everywhere around your area, even if you try to avoid them they will just keep coming back and ruining your fun, i honestly dont wish this game to be played by any sane person as it will make you go insane.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →50 hours in Rust and I have become a deeply unserious version of myself. I downloaded this game thinking I was going to be some hardened survivor. A wasteland menace. A feared scavenger. A post-apocalyptic warlord. In reality, I am a mostly naked man panic-jogging through the woods with 37 stone, a torch, and the survival instincts of wet bread. I have lost fights I should not even be legally allowed to talk about. I have been beaten unconscious by people with less clothing and less to lose…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you hate your life? Do you have hours of time to dedicate to an experience that ultimately leaves you miserable? Do you hate games that are actually optimized and run well? Do you despise people with a functioning frontal lobe and kindness in their hearts? Rust is the game for you. Never have I wanted to enjoy a game more than Rust. The mechanics are interesting, base building is fun, there's so much you can do with electricity and automation. Survival is calm--grindy, but enjoyable.…

unlabelledView post →Rust is not a survival game. It is a psychological experiment disguised as a video game. You spawn on a beach with absolutely nothing. No weapons. No clothes. No idea what you're doing. Five minutes later, some naked guy named xX_DeathDaddy_Xx has hit you in the head with a rock, stolen your hemp, and somehow built a mansion next to your corpse. The game begins peacefully. You collect wood. You mine some stone. You build a tiny wooden house and think, “Finally, I'm safe.” You are not safe.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wake up on a beach see 30 people running past dressed in trash one calls me the N word the other puts me in hand cuffs and they all start saying bark for me in chines accents and then I got taken to there base and got put in a jail cell and found a hole in the wall and escaped then went home and played this game called rust.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played Rust since 2017. I stayed when the recoil changes happened and many longtime players left. I adapted because I believed in the core of the game and trusted its direction. For years, I always said the same thing about Rust. I absolutely got my money’s worth. Few games can say that. Lately, though, I do not feel like I am getting my time’s worth anymore. Recent updates have drifted tonally and have also hurt performance. Errors, lag, and instability are now common in a world that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine paying for a game, spending hundreds (or thousands) of hours in it, and then being told you can't play anymore because your hardware is "outdated." Facepunch just decided that my PC is suddenly "illegal" because it only has TPM 1.2. Starting in March 2026, they are enforcing TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to play on "Secure" servers. If you have an older motherboard or CPU that doesn't support the 2.0 standard, you are effectively banned from the game you paid for. Anti-Consumer: This isn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended? Yes... but only if you know what you're signing up for. Rust isn't a game you "play" for an hour after work. It's a second job. If you actually want to compete, expect to put in 1,000+ hours just to understand the basics, and several thousand before you're consistently winning fights against experienced players. Every mistake is punished, and every lesson is learned the hard way. The gunplay, building, monument runs, and raids create some of the most intense moments you'll find…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The new update with blueprint fragments didn’t achieve what it was supposed to. Progression hasn’t slowed down at all for larger or more experienced teams — they’re still advancing quickly. But for solo players and smaller groups, especially those who aren’t as skilled or can’t play as often, this update has been a huge nerf. We’re ending up with thousands of scrap and still no Tier 2 workbench. Rust just doesn’t feel the same anymore. It now feels like the game is mainly designed for big or…

unlabelledView post →The game is awesome!!! I couldn't leave the beach for 3 hours because the aborigines were throwing stones at me. Then I farmed all day, went to make tea for 10 minutes, came back, and there were 3 black guys with Kalashnikovs in my house killing me. So I recommend it to everyone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The least toxic community in gaming very welcoming to new players
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rust is just a poverty simulator but everyone has guns. 10/10 would suffer again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With the latest update including having to acquire Blueprint fragments, it makes it nearly impossible to play as a solo player. Such a huge disappointment. It also encourages those in larger clans to build near high tier monuments just to pick off the poor solo or duo players just trying to get BP frags just to get a Tier 3 workbench. Such a bad update. Its not encouraging me whatsoever to run the monuments when there's only a 10 percent chance that I'll even get an advanced BP frag. Do better…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I installed Rust at 3:14 AM and immediately my refrigerator started speaking Romanian. The loading screen lasted 8 years, but emotionally it felt like a Tuesday. First thing I did was punch a tree, which caused a nearby horse to file taxes under my name. The gameplay is unbelievable. One minute you’re building a house, the next minute a naked guy named “Soup Dentist” hits you with a rock while reciting ancient microwave frequencies. I tried farming pumpkins but accidentally joined a maritime…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“I’ve never played a game that simulates emotional damage this accurately. Rust is less of a survival game and more of a full-time job where everyone is armed, unemployed, and deeply committed to ruining your evening. I spent 6 hours gathering wood and stone to build a tiny shack, only for a shirtless man named ‘TaxEvader420’ to break in with a flamethrower and call me poor in voice chat. My only allies were a chicken and false hope. The community somehow combines the tactical precision of a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It sucks when someone looks at you up and down to judge whether you are worthy or not. It appears that I am not - after 3100 hours, a couple hundred of USD spent on Rust DLCs, numerous Twitch and Kick events followed for all those skins. All because EAC/VAC or whoever decided that I was presumably cheating. And now I am not even in position to question, appeal that decision. A guy in his 30s with a weekend building/farm routine is a culprit who should be kept away from the game. Thanks,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game I haven't seen the outside for many many days, nor a woman. The only outside I know has minis in the sky, the only shop I've been to is the abandoned supermarket. This game is life, once you start... you can't stop, it consumes you. Good game definitely recommend very fun with friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rust isn’t a video game. It is a full-time, unpaid second job where your boss is a 14-year-old with a waterpipe shotgun, and your retirement fund is a wooden box full of sulfur that can be liquidated at 4:00 AM while you are sleeping. If you are looking for a relaxing survival crafting experience, turn back now. If you want to undergo a brutal, digitized psychological experiment that teaches you the Buddhist concept of non-attachment to material possessions, you have found your holy grail.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Q: Did you use AI in writing this game? A: AI along with human input was used to make it. The 500,000 line game engine written in typesafe Rust was entirely human written, however in order to produce a game with it we had AI design and implement all plot, dialog, art assets, and core mechanics.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Travis Konecny may not have a goal yet in this series. But sparking that chaos by agitating the hell out of Bryan Rust and making him lose his mind has completely changed this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst game i have ever played, ruined my day over and over every week of every month, got called slurs constantly and only ever had a bad time. truly the worst experience i have ever had on a game in my entire life and it 100% made my life worse in every way. 10/10 Would play again.

unlabelledView post →This game broke me down and built me back up into the chud I am today. I was sent into spirals. I lost sleep, friends, and money, but I logged back in anyway. It took everything from me repeatedly, and I loved every second of it. Maybe this is why I like getting stepped on. Rust didn’t teach balance or moderation. It taught obsession, commitment, and what it feels like to care deeply about something that doesn't care for you at all. I wish I could’ve spent more time in Rust. Not because I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a good 1300 hours on rust. In these hours i have: -turned my wired headphones into wireless -got 5 brain tumors -got my monitor upgraded to 2 pieces - lost 4 toes - rebought the game to punish my self - changed my keyboard from 75% to 60% -decided to take a break and replay all of elden ring (don't even get me started on that) -bought new pair of headphones, keyboard, and monitor Amazing game! I really Recommend this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fundamental reason I'm bullish on Rust in game dev doesn't have anything to do with (lack of) GC, or memory safety -- it's the way aliasable-xor-mutable makes it easy to multithread your game logic. Updating game objects *should* be embarrassingly parallel... 1/2
unlabelledView post →First hour in the game: "Who wants a horse?" I said, "Yeah, why not?" Walked 30 minutes to get to him, got trapped in a cage, and got killed. Didn't play for 2 years. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →havent played this game in 2 years, decided to give it a try again, farmed the whole day, ignored family and friends for 12 hours.. just to end up getting 4 c4s thrown on my base and they were in my core within 2 mins of the raid.. getting called a bot on top of that... great game would do it all over
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rust is like heroin, except instead of just ruining your body, it destroys your sleep schedule, social life, and faith in humanity. You swear you’re done after getting offlined, server swap in pure rage, and lie to yourself that this wipe will be different. It’s toxic, insanely racist, and you lose everything constantly. Heroin might genuinely be better for you than this game. Super addicting, especially with friends. Absolute misery. 10/10, would relapse again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Cut off all social connections, gets rid of all chances of love life, makes you quit your job. 10/10 Would recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rust is one of those games that will either give you some of the best moments you’ve had in gaming or completely destroy your sanity. You spawn on a beach with a rock and a torch thinking you’re about to start a cool survival adventure. Five minutes later someone with 4,000 hours runs past you, calls you a slur, and hits you in the head with a spear. Welcome to Rust. The game is basically about surviving, building a base, gathering resources, and trying not to lose everything you own every…
