Pay no attention to my Steam Playtime. It won't run in Steam. (More on that in a second). This game is an absolute masterpiece for point and clicks in my opinion. A Solid 9.5/10. But there is a major flaw. For a lot of people, this game won't run. I have figured out a workaround for this: Few things you have to do here depending on your OS; but all are collectively here. 1. Right click the game in your Steam Library and select "Properties". Select the "Local Files" tab and click "Verify…

Myst meets Jules Verne's Mysterious Island, a match made in heaven. Does "Return to Mysterious Island" live up to these two great pieces of work? Short answer is: Yes! It's 2014 now and it's been over 10 years since this game was released on PC, and then re-released on MacOS four years later. Created by Kheops Studio an indie company and published by The Adventure Company back in 2004 and now finally in 2014 available to buy on Steam. Kheops Studio is a game company that primary makes puzzle…

Ah yes, the game in which Michael Jackson and his pet monkey go on an adventure in a mysterious exotic island, a classic. I remember playing this game as a kid, no receding hairline and no fungi in my feet, those were the days. One of the best adventure games ever made. Played it multiple times, and it never fails to get me all immersed. The base of the game are puzzles you have to solve to progress the story, from finding food to making equipment to escape the island. I absolutely loved the…

Bought this game a couple of years ago and it never worked. Made an enquiry and never heard back from anyone. Just looked again to see if any update patches had been made available within the last couple of years and nothing. Looking at the comments on the discussion board for this game, there are lots of people who have been unable to play this game due to bugs. Why sell games here if they are not up to scratch and unplayable?

Return to Mysterious Island is one of the better point-and-click adventures I've played in recent memory. The first person aspect really shines with its 3D scenes and ability to look around in every direction. The sheer number of inventory items and MacGyver-like gameplay made it a treat to figure out all the different puzzles. The story is engaging and intriguing, plus the graphics are reasonably attractive. This is a soundly enjoyable game.

Return to Mysterious Island is a point-and-click adventure in which you CAN die. *** Girl gets stranded on an island. Girl uses local stuff and lots of creativity to get by until she's rescued. Girl makes monkey friend. That is pretty much all that happens in RtMI 1 but the game is something like a rite of passage you have to go through before you get to the really good stuff (RtMI 2 obviously). This isn't to say it's a bad game but it isn't a great one either. Story-wise it's pretty thin, the…

8.4/10 - If you love Jules Verne this game won’t disappoint. -----> Can't run game through steam; Time played is completely off. =( This is an 360 degree point and click that takes place of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island. It took some effort to be able to get everything running but once I did it was quite enjoyable! The puzzles take quite a bit of thinking, there are often 20+ items that you have to carefully craft together to achieve your objective. Just take your time, and figure out the…

I have played this a long time ago I used to own it on disk when it first came out and it is good if you have a windows xp PC but until they put out a new compatibility patch for newer versions of windows I do NOT recommend this game

I am a 55 year old biker and trucker father, and probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 15 now. My son got this game for from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 12 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account…

A sweet and engaging little game, with just enough challenge to keep your brain working and some cool places to explore. If the plot is a little far-fetched, well, that's a computer game, right? Graphics are excellent, and the music is lovely; acting and writing both work very well. Puzzles are of the constructing-a-battery-out-of-lemon-juice variety. There are very few timed puzzles, and those aren't difficult, even for fumble-fingered players like me. No violence or anything else…

A Nostalgic Adventure This game is a nostalgic trip back to my childhood.♥ ✯intro If you enjoy puzzle-solving to gather food or create equipment to escape an island, this is the game for you. The inventory system is exceptionally well-designed, once you play it you'll get what I mean. + the flexibility in crafting. ✯any negatives? Kheops Studio classic rightfully famous for its inventory system. Still holds up its ability to placate a bit of adventure nostalgia, still got that island charm. If Monsier Verne was alive today, perhaps, he’d like to get to know Mina – a solo seafarer with a penchant for exploration and a positive, Disney princess-like comment for just about anything she comes across. I’ll spare you the words I’d personally use if I were to be shipwrecked alone on an island with strange tremors, odd visions,…

Return to Mysterious Island is a 3D first person view-point and click, heavily inspired by Myst and other similiar games previously made by the Adventure Company, Cyan and Microids. You manually walk around different levels/scenes as there's no free movement. The story is simple, you're a castaway on an island and you need to get home. Eventually you find references to Captain Nemo and his submarine The Nautilus, as this game is very Jules Vernes-inspired. While the puzzles can be interesting…

It took me some time to make it work on windows 7. First - there is terrible lag. You see everything doubled when you try to move and it has maybe 2fps. To fix it - you have open your graphics card controls and disable v-sync for RtMI.exe Now, when you got rid of nausea - time to turn on some basic functions... like save and load xD You have to go to game main catalog on steam and create folder named "Users". That brings back save and load, gallery and allows you to save settings. And if you…

Now about the game itself: This game is quite short. I enjoyed most of it, though some of the puzzles are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, mostly due to the age of the graphics can make some of the puzzle items hard to find. -Recommended Title- Return to Mysterious Island is a good, fun game. Yeah it's slightly dated now, but I found the gameplay interesting and challenging. The graphics are ok, as is the sound. I haven't played back through, so, I cant comment on the replayability value. Once the storyline is done, it's done, in my books. I picked up RTMI in a steam sale - $4.99. It's worth the money at that price. No performance issues were encountered - running on an Windows 8.1 Laptop. 6.5/10

I remember first playing this game as one of the very first experiences on an old pc that my parents owned. The puzzles were difficult then and still are now for me at least. I love the sketched artwork scenes and the sense of mystery that sets in the further you progress into the game. My only negative feedback was that it refused to work on my newer PC and the only way I could play it was on my Steam Deck. 10/10 would recommend to any point-click puzzle genre player.

Return to Mysterious Island is a very fun, albeit short, 3D point-and-click adventure title with a nice classic atmosphere and multiple ways to solve the puzzles. As a 15-year-old game, it still holds up, even visually (it might require some tinkering to work on newer systems, though). The focus on inventory and logic puzzles is very welcome - every solution makes sense, and the gameplay is not padded out by annoying mini-games, which were popular for the genre back in the day. The music is…

Unique and interesting concept for a game, playthrough still enjoyable in 2024, great fun for fans of the Myst series. Can get confusing in the late game due to the many different ways to complete singular tasks (leaving you with a lot of unused items in your inventory by the end), but this adds to its replayability. Great game for kids, my brother and I used to play this over and over.

Return to Mysterious Island (2004) is a point-and-click adventure game based on Jules Verne's 1875 novel The Mysterious Island. This game does not work well on Windows 10 with AMD GPU's (in my case). Gameplay is fine, but the UI (user interface) is impossible to play with, therefore you cannot progress. If I could actually see what I'm clicking, and see my inventory, that would be a different story. 1/10

I think one of the problems with this game is that it's not intuitive and there's no way to know what to do next, so you end up just randomly guessing things which isn't a lot of fun.
