I don't often review games on steam. I'm lazy, and usually leave that to other people. This time... I felt I had to voice my opinion. Let me preface this and say I've played all of Pendulo's adventure games, right back to Runaway: A Road Adventure (on CD no less). I've enjoyed them all, except this one. The deviation from standard adventure mechanics was too much for me. So, onto a list of positives and negatives. Negatives: - The interface. It's an abomination. All those pop up windows…

I grew up with classic point and click adventures and I am really open minded to new approaches, new interfaces and so on but this game's gameplay is a nightmare. It will never make you feel clever for solving the puzzles, because most of the time it's about figuring out how to communicate with this totally weird game engine. There won't be any reward for thinking logically, because even if you have the right idea, you still have to figure out how to do it interface-wise. I was keen to see how…

pros + gorgeous looking and colorful hand drawn comic book style background artwork and character models + well made long cartoony cut scenes + many different and interesting cast of characters + good character animations + decent voice acting + nice musics + hard to solve but mostly enjoyable puzzles. there are lots of inventory-based puzzles which you can combine some items + story is engaging + there is auto save + when you click to upper left corner, hotspots highlighted so no need to…

A cursed immortality, or a chronicle of obsession. A story-driven point-and-click adventure with sparse interaction and a strong focus on dialogue.

Hey, if you are into p&c adventure games like me, you will know Pendulo Games... I loved their Runaway series... I can clearly state this game is at the same quality height as the named Runaways, even if some folks do not get along with its controls ^^ I played the first one and got so deeper into the story (recommended), therefore the start was quite clear but still impressing :D The mechanics got optimized, the gfx and animations either... sadly the voicing got too much into the…

Don't play this if you didn't play the first game before, because it throw a major spoiler in your face right after the prologue. With a title like that, you would expect a prequel, but it's not. The interface is a nightmare, everything about it is clunky and the devs tries to pass it as "optimised for a controller". It's a bold faced lie, since the game is optimised for a tablet. When you use the controller, it's up to the games whim on what hotspot of interest it decide to focus, and when…

I played the original Yesterday adventure, The Next Big Thing and all Runaway titles. I enjoyed those games. But this one I did not. It is just bad. Point that stood out for me in a negative way: - gameplay is horrendously bad (controller or mouse, makes no difference) - story and characters were weird, I could not relate - bugs and red debug error messages appearing all the time - strange puzzles, but overall too easy - game end is kinda abrupt - player's time is not respected: ->…

This game is much better than its predecessor which I still reviewed positively. The increased length was a big help for evening out the tone. I particularly liked the different time periods and background art. Pauline is thankfully much less useless this time around (although still not particularly likeable. I think maybe it's the harsh manner the voice actress has with her lines.) And whereas the previous game had a very rushed and disappointing ending, this game's ending has as much…

This game, for a 2016 game, has extremely frustrating puzzles and moments, where if you don't follow the exact sequence they intended, it won't work, even though it's the exact same idea. It would be recommended, if not for the bugged moments which glitch some of these puzzles and require multiple restarts in order to get fixed. The storyline wasn't bad, but the game design is holding the game back, big time.

Extremely disappointing. The bug with disappearing items has still not been fixed by the devs. On top of that the control scheme is terrible. Unless you enjoy starting the game over after an item disappears due to a bug, do not play this.

As continuation/explanation of the first “Yesterday” game this dark thriller with somewhat clunky mechanics and morally ambiguous characters is satisfying enough to see the twisted journey through the end. “Yesterday: Origins” can technically be played as a standalone but will work much better if you played the initial game in the duology first. It all starts back in the Middle Ages as John is being rescued from inquisition by a mysterious order. The order didn’t do it out of pure kindness, of…

I started this one with high expectations. I had finished 'Yesterday' way back when and I was completely underwhelmed by it. 'Origins' started out real promising, a medieval dungeon, a dark, religious storyline involving the Inquisition...I was intrigued. Just finished this game after playing the original Yesterday last week. Unfortunately the new game does not have the same polish and attention to detail as its predecessor. There are some worthy improvements, most notably in the 3D environments and the longer and more intricate story, but unlike before, things aren't as unified and coherent when everything is taken into account. Numerous bugs and irregularities plagued the gameplay from start to finish, ruining what's supposed to be an…

Normally I would recommend this game. The aesthetics are pretty good for its graphics, the music ranges from thrilling to epic and the story is filled with dark humour that'd make any social justice warrior cringe. However. This game controls pretty badly with mouse and keyboard, which *shouldn't* be much of a problem as it says "Full Controller Support" on the store page. When you try to play it with a controller (which - when it works - is actually way more comfortable than mouse and…

Fairly decent but not amazing, same as with the first game to which this is a sequel. The story is better thanks partly to it being longer, but it still wouldn't win any awards. Pros: - Good voice acting - Fairly decent story (better than the first game) - I quite liked the ending. FYI there's an after credits cutscene. Cons: - I don't think this one had a button to view all interactable areas. There are achievements for each chapter for getting all of these and despite doing my best to find…

This was my first "point-and-click" adventure since I played King's Quest V decades ago. Happy to report that it was a very positive experience. I might do another play through just to see how fast I can solve it, now that I know the puzzles and such. Also, it appears that there *might* be an alternate ending. We'll see... I have two nitpicks though. The first is about some of the puzzles. There were three separate times when I had all the items and information I needed, but I missed…

It's really hard to choose wether to recommend this game or not, but I'll go for the negative in the end. Pendulo definitely has gotten somewhat better regarding its writing and characterization with this series and The Next Big Thing, so I think the first Yesterday was their first game I really enjoyed story-wise. The premises were quite strong and they totally managed to have a very nice development for this second part, even though I'm not sure the end makes 100% sense. Overall the writing…

Having just finished this game (after a replay of Yesterday), I am left with far too many things to say and no one to talk about them with. This is a torment. That said, overall the game is quite good and I definitely recommend that anyone who played and enjoyed Yesterday give it a chance. The big stand-out with this game (and most of Pendulo Studios' games in general) is the story. They always knock the story out of the park, and without spoiling anything, the twists and plot reveals in this…

Yesterday Origins is a point-and-click game with some pretty dark supernatural themes. It's connected to the first Yesterday game, but you don't need to play that one first since this works as both a prequel and sequel at the same time. You switch between playing as John Yesterday and Pauline. They're both immortal, which sounds great at first. Until you realize they lose their memories each time they die. I really liked the story. It jumps between different time periods, from medieval Spain…

I really appreciate the unique way you interact with characters and objects from an artistic level, but in terms of gameplay and clicking mechanics it can be a bit clunky regarding finding and using hotspots. The great Frank Zappa once said: "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny." You might say the same thing about point-and-click adventure games. I'm delighted that they still make games likes these. Being a huge fan of Pendulo Studios' games I'm kinda disappointed... this edition seemed to be lacking the humour the past few games had. That tongue on cheek vibe seems to have passed being replaced instead by some jokes here and there. I missed having the spacebar be the hotspot shortcut, but most of all the lack of any sort of hint system was a real let down. Decent point and click game even if sometimes the puzzles felt counter intuitive. Maybe it's an issue on my part but the controls on a controller were awful and unresponsive, couldn't figure out how to make all of the interface work properly. There were also a couple time I had to quit (the normal way) due to bugs. Not all the "puzzles" make sense but most of it did. A few times I had to look it up. Some puzzles are very difficult to solve, requiring you to find EVERY piece of information before you can proceed, even if you already know what you need to do. Yesterday Origins is a lovely sequel to Yesterday. The visuals are beautiful, even on low settings. The puzzles are not particularly brain-racking, but the feature of having to supply a logical reason before performing certain actions is a refreshing deviation from the classic point-and-click adventure game formula. BUT it is so badly developed that my not-so-good system is eaten by the game engine, and after a more or less playable and enjoyable act in the dungeon all I get is a damned slideshow. Excellent game, easily one of the top of Pendulo's studio (and longer than usual!). Tone is way darker than Runaway/Next Big Thing, but it's good and fits the settings. I think they really nailed the 2D/3D integration with those dynamics close up. Would love to see a follow up. An entirely unnecessary sequel. It ends up creating more questions instead of answering any. There are to many characters in this game. This means that some of the newer characters to not have enough time to be properly fleshed out, and they end up just being ridiculous characatures. There are still lots bugs in this game.
