29 of 29 · most liked firstRed Johnson’s Chronicles is a game very similar to games like Puzzle Agent and Professor Layton, although it has a more serious tone and puzzles require a bit more effort than just pure logic. In fact, it blends together some of the better elements found in other (point-and-click) adventures games and does this successfully, but ultimately (and as expected) not without any flaws. Red Johnson is a private investigator who’s investigating a murder at Drownedman’s Bridge. One clue leads to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game but I just couldn't play it. The controls are horrible. Its a point and click game without the pointing and clicking because they force you to use keyboard controls for things that could easily, and much more fluently, be done with the mouse. At many points the mouse just did not work which seemed to be because i had the mouse at the wrong point on the screen. However since I didn't have a mouse pointer present at the time it was impossible to tell this.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall a detective game "with potential" though, that is where it seems to end. A very poorly done console port leaves MUCH to be desired. I'd barely got even to the "fourth" possible destination, looking for a particular person, and spent the next 26 attempts trying to get past the ensueing QTE before getting fed up without any option to skip or auto complete. "Registration" of mouse movement is extremely temperamental. Sometimes it'll work with just the tiniest inch of movement, other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got 10 minutes into the game and coudlnt continue, really annoyed that i paid for this. There are no options to change graphics settings your stuck with what they give you, you cant rebind the keys and the game seems to have alot of quick time events. Id give this game a pass or wait till its on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steer clear, even on sale. I bought this in a sale a while back, i read the synopsis and thought it would be a fun detective game - which i love - or at least a nice point and click game... Well I was doubly wrong. As the title itself says, This has 2 games in one, two episodes of a saga that I'm quite sure wont ever be finished. The first episode was okay, and the second was just a complete mess. You follow red around on metropolis, solving a murder and a kidnapping, with lots of puzzles and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Johnson's Chronicles is a point-and-click adventure that has a certain attitude, with decent graphics and some quick time events (i.e. press button X before time runs out, and then some other button, and then some other mouse move...) to pass the "challenges", and the usual puzzles. While the writing is somewhat fresh, the puzzles are forced and derivative, QTE's are boring and out of place, and the weird interface really turns you off. This game was clearly NOT written for the PC, and it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy at a Discount. The game isn't bad. The bad part about this game comes from the poor controls and bad puzzle design. The dialogue can be off and weird at times, but for the most part it is nice. The controls during certain puzzles are horrendous and not to mention the QTEs. Some of the puzzles give you little to no information about how to deal with them, yet expect you to do them quickly. It's a pretty fun/long game and would be worth it if you could get it close to $4.99, but I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Johnson's Chronicles: A budget detective adventure game with mostly mixed reviews, and for good reason, as it mostly leaves me with mixed feelings. This is a 2-in-1 pack of detective games, and contains a launcher for two totally separate episodes. Set in a rundown, crime-ridden big city, our protagonist is a skilled but insufferably cocky private eye who frequently solves crimes for the local cops. In the first episode, he is contracted by a bumbling patrolman to solve a random murder…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oy. Playing this was frustrating. There are a lot of puzzles which, even using the hint system and looking up a solution... I don't get the logic. The controls are frustrating on keyboard and mouse, as you get to try and click/drag to gesture in directions to make things happen... and the detection for what you are doing is spotty. It only does cardinal directions and there's no control customization. It's point & click & pray. The first game has a better mystery, although a bit QTE heavy.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, for windows 10 players who have problems with the game's resolution, just locate the game's exe file in the steamapps folder and tweak the compatibility setting. The system will first try to run it under win8. If the game still won't show up properly, just say so and the system will change the DPI setting automatically. That's what works for me. The art and style is totally my cup of tea. Story's great. You meet some very colorful characters. VO's good. You get the feeling you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm glad I played Red Johnson's Chronicles--and judging from the other reviews and the discussion comments, I'm lucky I was able to finish it. In the QTEs I had the most luck making quick, short mouse movements (Windows 7 64-bit, mouse USB plug-and-play with no special drivers or settings). The QTE at Sonia's took me four tries. I liked that many puzzles often meant manipulating things in 3D (or close-up, or with the UV light) and then figuring out the logic. But the puzzles were uneven in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game free in a giveaway, decided to give it a try since as an Achievement Hunter I figured only having 12 should make it quick and easy. Quickly discovered after a bit of research that this game is a console port which explains why some of the Quick Time Events (QTE) are so finicky. As another reviewer already stated, sometimes you only have to move your mouse a little bit and other times I had to use my entire mouse pad for it to register. What made matters worse is that by having a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool noir atmosphere, music, world remind me of The Longest Journey. Awesome characters, voice acting is one of the best in video games. Red Johnson is so hot! QTEs are horribly implemented: you must use your mouse to perform various movements and that don't work most of the times. Gameplay is very repetitive and puzzles are too difficult. I hope if the third part will be released then it will be more close to classic adventure than to collection of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard puzzles which make me insane.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jesus the interface and controls are some of the worst ive ever used. That's saying alot for a point n click n keyboard keys at random times game. The GFX and dialogue and everything is fine, but its just so clunky and obtuse to play. Case in point: I just deleted this because the QTE with Sonia doesnt work, she shoots you everytime.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually nicepuzzle game that looks like it could be great if not for the shockingly bad user interface. The controls are arbitrary, change without warning form one are to the next, and are never fully explained. If you have the patience to put up with the UI, you may enjoy this. Otherwise, don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 God awful quick time events
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red Johnson was a drab experience in almost every way. While the esthetics were pleasant, the tone of the game was very inconsistent - it ranged from somewhat humorous and lighthearted to very serious, full of curse words and thriller-like narrative. It was difficult to adjust to when it so abruptly changed halfway through the game. The puzzles had a lot of potential, and some of them very actually interesting and logical, but a huge chunk were overly difficult and took half an hour per puzzle…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i liked it, its a shame they never got to the thirdpart
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall = 3/10 The game’s not without its charms and the mashup of ideas to make a traditional yet more involved point and click adventure game is a fascinating production, but it focuses on all the wrong things and is wrapped up in a poorly performing package. It’s very stylish with its grimy, industrial noir presentation and detailed character models, but the game is made and runs very badly. For the first 6 hours it ran horribly slow for no reason, there’s no graphics or control options,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had to let the game running in the background to post the review... The only thing I see when I start the game is a black screen. I hear sounds but everything is black. Unplayable, 0/10.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/zGkNNYS3bJU Somewhere between a puzzle box, adventure, and hidden object game, Red Johnson lacks cohesion between the styles of play and the half hearted attempts at noir stylings.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Adventure - WC - Walk Clicker Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Simple detective walk clicker. Hotspot oriented, almost like a tablet game. Hotspots often do not react to clicks, there are few pieces of fluff text. The engine is VERY sluggish. I did not get very far, seems like in theory this should obey some sort of streamlined casualized P&C formula, with a journal keeping tabs on some sort of intrigue or clue. The puzzles seemed mostly prescripted…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →horrible controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This *could* have been a really good game, but the control scheme is a mess, and made it difficult to slog through. The story is decent, voice acting better than most in the genre, and the graphics are acceptable for this type of game. But the controls are really, really bad- it's not point and click so much as point and click and press the arrow keys, or maybe space, or sometimes v b and n. It's just not consistent and isn't fun to play because of this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game doesn't work. I get a black screen after choosing the episode.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's that stupid kind of fun. Would recommend.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel robbed. The game is unplayable. Horrible controls and doesn't support my ultrawide monitor (the screen goes black). Had to use my secondary monitor to play. but even if the game barely has any action to it, moves awful on my Nvidia 1050Ti. I should've listened to other reviews and give the money to a poor guy or something. I never felt more ripped off. Microids must pay me to play, not vice-versa. I'd love my money back
