Rat Hunter
Developer Secret Sign
Rat Hunter features traditional, by-the-book gameplay, which does not wander into the realm of tactical shooters. Players will have to overcome different obstacles and solve various puzzles in order to get to the next level. From the Steam store page

30 of 30 · most liked firstI bought Rat Hunter off Gamersgate for like 2 dollars 10 years ago, played it from start-to-end and discovered the funniest FPS game that no one had played. I was intrigued after I review I saw described it as a "masterpiece of absurdist comedy" and that is probably the *best* way to describe this game. The game lets you know what it is and is *not* right off the bat by describing itself as this: "Rat Hunter is a traditional first-person shooter set in a hi-tech environment. It does not push…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a hilariously broken shooter that would be okay and funny if it was any less broken. The nonsensical translation? I can get behind that. The voice acting that regularly sounds like the voice actor can scarcely believe he has been paid to read the words coming out of his mouth? Makes me nostalgic for a simpler time. The enemies regularly walking into walls and causing massive hordes to get stuck in a corner so I can rocket them all to death at once? Starting to be less okay with that but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the story is pretty funny and some of the one liners are insane, but broken movies and pretty boring gameplay ( even with "not wanting to push the envelope" as a selling point ) don't make this game TOO compelling enjoy it for what it is - a time capsule to much jankier times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everyone who made this game were drunk as balls, and now I got alcoholism too. Rat Hunter is a crap game, but it is also an unintentionally hilarious, entertaining FPS. On one hand you have boring corridor levels, guns that are weaker than soft whisper and a smorgasbord of technical issues. On the other hand you have characters with names like Butch Grid and Fritt Monkey, voice acting so bad that it's good again done by the office janitor and the sun that moves on the sky as you move your aim.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, like how the difficulty dies for the last 5 levels. Where the rats at tho?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game was truly a journey, a journey of self discovery, who am i, is he me?! am i truly THE rat hunter;. was she truly a dumb ♥♥♥♥♥. will we ever find out who that crazy guy from bock 43 and who was the secretary. these answers are never discovered. That is all
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have recently finished a retail copy of the game. Decided to get the steam version to see if anything has changed since. The intro video still only plays audio, you would need to play the video directly in a standalone player (potplayer). Initial load can be bit slow, and there does seem to be some minor UI issues when changing between resolutions, reapplying may fix it. Difficulty setting might get reset when loading the game from a save, so check the settings menu if the game suddenly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gunplay is unsatisfying, the story is incomprehensible, the cutscenes are broken, and the voice acting is hilariously awful. Absolutely amazing for a slavjank game 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is sort of a broken mess, but at the same time pretty endearing. The voice acting is terrible to the point where it makes you laugh. The story is some loosely tied together mess which you'll have played through within about 3 hours. I got the game on sale for 1 buck or even less, and can recommend it for that price. It would be a "so bad, it's good" type of game if some things would be less annyoing: Enemies frequently spawn behind you. Causing your experience just being a fest of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty good music, i did a sequence break in an early level because i couldnt figure out where to go and if you rub your character against stuff and jump sometimes you go super high and doing that made it so that enemies in every level for the rest of the game didnt aggro on me until the boss at the end, which was a really terrible boss fight. also very funnily there is not a single rat in this game. a delicious deal for 1.49
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This ultimate bundle i bought is insanely good. So far i played pirate hunter, liquidator2, and rat hunter so far. I wanted to play all these games a few years ago but they werent on steam, they werent in english, they had starforce drm, and there wasnt 1920x1080 as one of the video options. Now they have all that + english voiceovers which i was not expecting. And they are GOOD english voiceovers as well. Its a dream come true that these games were updated then dropped on steam in 2024.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad Russian FPS? Yes please.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rat Hunter promises a "traditional first-person shooter set in a hi-tech environment. It does not push the envelope or bring something fresh to the genre" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is definitely one of the games of all time. It's far from the worst FPS I've played, but the gameplay is strange and inconsistent in ways even less function Eurojank shooters seem to get right making for an experience that's not bad but always feels slightly off. The best way to explain the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looked good on the steam product page... then I played a little. I now know why it was $2.50...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can finish the game inside the refund window.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is bad. but its funny bad. the voice acting is laughable, the writing is worse, the gameplay is a fine traditional fps but the weapons power scale to high hell so the early game rifle is a peashooter by the final boss. its not a long game but a fun time, play with friends for a better experience. the game likes to crash at cutscenes, so quicksave before ending a level just in case you need to slap esc a few times on the loading screen to skip them (theres only two cutscenes, and for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rat Hunter is a distinctly old-school science-fiction shooter developed by Secret Sign and published by Strategy First, originally released in the mid-2000s and later resurfacing on Steam for a new audience. It is a game that wears its era openly, drawing heavily from the design philosophy of classic first-person shooters where momentum, atmosphere, and experimentation mattered more than cinematic spectacle or tightly scripted set pieces. Rather than chasing modern trends, Rat Hunter commits to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first thought while playing Rat Hunter for the first time was that this game is extremely mid. But after playing through and finishing the whole thing I changed my opinion - it was even worse. The gameplay is pretty repetitive and gets boring really fast, Its extremely glitchy for example: I often spawned inside walls and couldnt move, when characters were speaking you couldnt hear them (thank God because the dubbing is horrible). But worst of all in the middle of the game enemies stopped…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a fantastic romp through Space Russia, This game may be a little janky, but it is good jank! this games weaponry and enemies really are great and I reccomend this game to people who like space first person shooters
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another one of those classic mid-2000s janky sci-fi FPS games from the Eastern Bloc that dared to dream big despite a general lack of budget. There are so many dystopian cyberpunk shooters from this time that all sort of blend together and all sort of suck and I'll always go out of my way to play them because if not me, then who? Just replayed this now that it's on Steam and the English translation is hilarious. Fantastically awful writing and voice acting that turns the game into almost an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever tried beer with rum? I paid £0.85 for this on sale and got over 3 hours of use so not too bad despite its faults. My game broke about two thirds in and the enemies didn't react to me at all which I found funny, at least the final boss attacked me. I also got the gun with infinite ammo one of the other reviews mentioned. It was fairly easy to change the main voices to Russian and keep the english menus/interface which is my preference. The car level was terrible, I ended up…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the funniest game I've played this year.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This slavjank is so slavjanky, it won't go past the loading screens. Hallelujah!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love me a classic jankfest nightmare game from the mid 2000's. Last week's trash heap was 「Rat Hunter」, an unintelligible romp through a sea of masked clones who turn into a cloud of red mist when they die. This week it's 「Metathrone」. After only 30 minutes, I can tell this is gonna be rough. 🎮
unlabelledView post →Uhhh it was fun but kept crashing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very important thing: When you get to a loading screen, press escape a couple times. I am not sure if it is just the first level but the game can (and for me always did) crash unless I pressed escape to skip the cinematic. With that quick mention out of the way, I was pleasantly surprised by this game. Though keep in mind the game's description is very apt. There's nothing innovating about the game, but that isn't an issue since what it does provide is few hours of fun. Still, I had fun…
