Despite the incredibly wtf moment that the trailer drop was for this game, I was still inclined to try it out as someone who typically plays every Raiden game when they have a chance to get their hands on them so I decided to take a plunge at Raiden Nova. At $30 base price I was already kinda ehh about the entry fee, any higher than that and I probably wouldn't have even bothered buying. A…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →720p in 2024? No graphics options? Come on guys, put in at least the bare minimum. Putting the Raiden name and your studio name on this is an embarrassment. Take more pride in your work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is the ultimate test of the meme “I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less and I’m not kidding". Yes it's expensive compared to similar games. Yes the game is extremely dated, visually. But I kind of like having a Vampire Saviors clone with Go Sato music and cooler (to me) aesthetics and where shmup skills actually have value. It'll take you a while to figure out how to make a good build, and you'll probably have fun while learning.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a hardcore Raiden fan and twinstick shooter aficionado, I was really looking forward to this one. Initial impressions weren't great. As a straight Switch port - a handheld Switch port - the game runs at a fixed 720p resolution, and the graphics are just subpar, with low-poly models and low-res textures. It looks like a PlayStation 2 game. There are also no display options, at all. But if you can look past that, you'll find a genuinely captivating action game here - dare I say it, my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →30€ are far too much for this game. It's worth 10€ at most. It gets boring very quickly. The ships you unlock and upgrade with heavy grinding all play more or less the same. I'm ignoring the fact that it is nothing like a classic Raiden STG.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Call me biased here, but having played a ton of roguelikes similar to this one (DRG Survivor for example) lately, this game is absolutely PERFECT for me. Having the endless mode is even better because it always gives you something to do even after you beat the main stage mode. The ONLY thing I ask for is to please add graphics options, because 720p is a bit low resolution for a game released in 2024 (Where 1080p and sometimes even 1440p displays are ridiculously cheap compared to previous…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game's main problem is that it doesn't know it's audience. It's not for Raiden fans as the only relation this has to the Raiden franchise is it's skin; weapons, graphics, enemy models, bosses are all straight-asset rips from Raiden V - there's nothing new or interesting to look at here if you've played that game. The biggest divergence from the mainline series is this isn't a vertical shmup, but I wouldn't count that as a negative as this isn't what the game advertises itself as, instead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice mixture of Vampire Survivors and Shump gameplay mechanics. Yes, you have to loot for hours (typical roguelike mechanics). graphic is so lala Sound and music is good (last stage has some classic raidentunes ) gameplay: ok (if you are looking for a real shmup, try other games, if you want a vampire survivors with real gameplay than buy it) I hope the next raiden game will be a real shmup. Perhaps Moss can release a collector edition of all raiden games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly pretty good! Great game to pick up on a sale, and will keep high score chasers occupied! Runs great without any issues
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want classic Raiden gameplay, buy Raiden IV instead. It's a great game. If you like games where you get a big, beefy health bar that enemies slowly chip away at, and like leveling up all your stats over multiple games, maybe you can get your fix here. This game won't be for every Raiden fan. I recommend checking out some videos first and see if it looks fun to you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really only recommended if you're in that extremely tight niche of people who enjoy the survivors-like(?) genre and classic shmup action. Otherwise, what is here is really rough for modern standards. It's hard for me to recommend this game to anyone, but it isn't a bad game. It just has a very confusing audience to appeal to, especially with confusingly out of date visual design and weirdly variable visual quality. On the other side, they let Go Sato out of the basement to compose more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To sum it up, great gameplay and lackluster visuals. If you're a purist then this may not be for you but if you're looking for something shmup adjacent or just wanting to try something new I'd highly recommend it! My biggest "cons" at it were, would be a greater variety of stages and upgrades but the way I see it if my biggest complaint is wanting "more" then they've done something right!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my first Raiden since playing on a cabinet with Raiden II. The switch to twin stick feels good, movement and shooting feels decent even without the movement upgraded. Lots of upgrades to get in runs as well as permanent ships and ship upgrades to buy, even if a lot of them feel very incremental. The port is a bit lacking, with no graphics options, but runs well on Linux. Overall is a good blend of vampire survivors and Raiden. In honesty though, the price feels a bit high for what's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This worth for USD 10 / JPY 1000 / KRW 10000 if you like or you have nostalgia of: 1. Raiden series a LOT (1~5, not spinoffs) but you already own most of them 2. You like dual stick shooter genre 3. You're already familiar to games with 'grind and upgrade by replaying until you get strong' This is because this game have multiple flaws as follows: 1. Mission design quality is nowhere to match with any Raiden games (at least what I remember) 2. Graphics looks way much worse than Raiden 3. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anyone around in the 1990s will likely remember the original arcade experience in amusement halls, bowling alleys, fish & chips shops etc. - That experience remained largely unchanged for almost three decades... Until now. If you came here expecting that two player capable arcade cabinet / couch vertical scrolling shooter experience, don't. Nova brings a more open twin-stick shooter very much akin to the likes of Vampire Survivor. How does that work out? As someone who got hooked on games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and pretty dank game. A lot of upgrade builds to go for. Especially the main and sub weapons with the super/special max level upgrade that looked hella wicked. And it has all Raiden planes but several of them are locked behind the achievements which is I really don't mind. Great variety.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not enough shmup in this survivor clone. But for a deep discount I found it enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finding it discount on festival, I decided to play due to Raiden fan. First, let's find controller instead of keyboard and mouse. Your ship can move freely, but the cursor aim is ♥♥♥♥, you face backward and let the boss watch your ship bottom service for free. Second, I have played early roguelike top-down shooting for a long time (Crimsonland), it does not answer Raiden fan correctly much. However, it helps newcomers to know Raiden in different way. Original STG may not their way due…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A twin stick shooter based in the Raiden Universe, inspired by Vampire Survivors. Concept is solid, game runs smooth, movement and upgrade system is works well. Grindy, but that's the name of the game. Gameplay is engaging and addictive, so the grind isn't THAT much of a stand out. Of course, kickass soundtrack you would expect in a Raiden game made by Moss. I only hope a multiplay addition comes out
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun VS-like with a bit more shmup-iness to it. Not the best looking or playing of either genre it takes from but it's a very solid 3/5 imo. Worth picking up at a discount for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow... the graphics are abysmal. Like inexcusably bad. Was this going to be a switch game? I don't understand how they could have released it in this state. No settings to change either. Other than that, it plays well enough. It was fun. Takes an hour or so to get to the end of stage 5. Should be 5 CAD. I paid 11 CAD. I guess I'll play it twice to get my moneys worth.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Expensive but really good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What the heck? If you're into Raiden, one of the most visually gorgeous shmups of the 32-bit era, then you probably have at least some sense of aesthetics. And you probably expect the same from this game. You're gonna be seriously disappointed. I can't believe they gave this license to some middling development house. Graphics are awful. Music is awful. Even the menu font is awful. Gameplay is, well, okay I guess. It's not a complete bullet hell at least. It's really hard to want to play much…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay for a cheap game to play on Steam Deck, not really a true Raiden game, but I had fun with it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game has a great graphics looking, playability is different than commom shooters, but really nice - APPROVED!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. Its a twin stick shooter that feels a lot like a Vampire Survivors type game. I think i like it better than all the other Raidens
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not a Raiden STG....but its the best survivor-like out there. Bravo Moss!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i saw this and my initial reaction was "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this looks so cool" the flash game i played on coolmathgames.com was more fun. other reviews go into more detail better than I ever can, but I can testify the whole thing feels effortless, and lacking in soul. also some of the ingame graphics look AI generated i paid $9 for this game and it feels like it'd have been worth it at $3
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think Vampire Survivors, but not "number go big", with Raiden ships, an arcade mode, and twin-stick shooting action. People often compare it to PS2 games, but I think that is a positive thing for this game, the aesthetic is really good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How to ruin a once-great shmup franchise. Vampire Survivors has been the in-thing for sales and popularity, so corpos gonna corpo and ape the trend by turning Raiden into skilless slop for the chill-out masses. (And I thought Raiden V was bad!) The fact that Nova is technically a twin-stick shooter is the flimsiest of excuses for not actually being, in reality, an auto-shooter... 'cause every other aspect of the game checks the boxes in spades. The only nod I can give here is to Go Sato, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing one sessions and almost 9 hours later. It's pretty fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Raiden NOVA is an ambitious reimagining of one of the most recognizable names in classic shoot-’em-up history, taking the long-running Raiden identity and reshaping it into a modern twin-stick action experience. Developed by MOSS Co., Ltd. and published by UFO Interactive Games, the title deliberately steps away from the traditional vertical-scrolling format that defined the series for decades. Instead, it embraces 360-degree movement, free aiming, and roguelike-inspired progression,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are not a Raiden fan , then I'd steer clear of this one. The game is very simple, and there is not much too it, and you can get a very good list of the positives and negatives from the other reviewers. So I'll add some tips: Add the defense and hp and speed perks first, and you can probably clear this on ur 2nd go around , or at least, I did. Without the speed boost, stage 4? or 5? is a no go bc the enemies come at you too fast to avoid. Several enemy bullet patterns cannot hit you if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Raiden franchise and Vampire Survivors had a baby and it's called Raiden NOVA. This game is a lot of fun. It takes the Raiden franchise off the upward scrolling limitations of games past and lets you fly around levels freely which feels great. In fact, I think most future Raiden titles should be designed like this instead of the oldschool upward scrollers. Raiden Nova also introduces survivorlike mechanics to the franchise where you level up after killing enough enemies and can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically this is Raiden 5 (not the best in the series) meets Robotron 2084. Make of that what you will, but it's something different for the bullet hell genre. There are RPG character building-like elements so grinding can help make it easier, and if you make it through the whole game it's about 45-50 minutes since the stages are timed except for the bosses. If it's on a sale pick it up and give it a shot, I recommend it more for Raiden fans and also those who like dual-stick shooters, if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game and fun. Only downside is the Power-up Shop for stuff like re-roll, max HP etc are upgraded for each airplane and not for all planes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Am I OK with this Raiden? Sure, I'm a fan of Top-Down Shooting game (since Crimsonland and Alien Shooter era). If you are interesting to buy this game. I recommend to buy Gamepad instead of using Mouse&Keyboard. The ship doesn't follow your cursor when shooting (I don't know what kind of logic with Mouse in this game).
