60 of 190 · most liked firstI applaud the premise and the idea of the game. I hope the devs will continue working in the same genre, and will have a great success with The Radio Commander: Pacific Campaign. But I unfortunately cannot give a thumb up to this game. The dev company is called "Serious Sim"; I take it that "sim" here means "simulation". Well, the problem is the game is anything but. In fact, any deviation from VERY strict (and VERY vaguely written) mission objectives literally breaks the game. A couple of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 209: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆☆ (5/10) Radio Commander sounded good on paper. You’re not a soldier in the field; you’re the voice on the other end of the radio, directing troops, relaying commands, and trying to make sense of chaos using only reports, a map, and your own judgment. It's story-rich, morally ambiguous, and tries to simulate the fog of war in a way few games dare. It deserves credit for ambition, for sure. It's rare to see a war…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but it just isn't up to the standards I expect. First off, as others have said, it's less a strategy game and more of an interactive story. Your actions have little, if any, gravity on the situation. Things happen in a very forceful and scripted way, and the only difference between what you choose to do is what score you get in the end - everything will happen the way it happens anyway. One of the objectives is that your units must survive but I can't imagine…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing concept, dull execution. Being blind and relying only on radio reports is immersive at first. The map UI is clean, base atmosphere is cool, and the Vietnam vibe is strong. But gameplay quickly turns into ask for position, confirm combat, fast-forward, repeat. Strategy feels shallow, just stack units and spam artillery/helicopters. Voice acting sounds stitched together, voice recognition didn’t work for me, and some bugs break immersion. Respect for the idea. The core gameplay just isn’t…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not know what I was getting into before I played this. What at first seemed like an innovative map-only command tent simulation of Vietnam first annoyingly, then incessantly and eventually irredeemably could not keep the developers political commentaries out of their game. Did you want to make a Vietnam war game or a documentary about the civil rights movement? Your Coleman character cannot stop pushing his (see: your) social activism off the radio, might I add, this is the radio that me…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't follow the script, broke the game on the first mission. Neat idea but very flawed execution.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mixed views. Its actually a lot, lot better than it looks, keeping track of things by updates rather than real time is a novel idea. Tasking units rather than just placing them and the icons only change when you update them so none of it is automatic. The icon might say the unit is on the hill but if you haven't checked or communicated with it recently it might have not got there yet or has been held up by enemy action. This alone makes this game very realistic and not a simple game. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the worst bug ever: the radio is not working, and there is nothing happening. Naturally I cannot proceed with the game. I cannot reset the campaign. The game unplayable for me. So disappointing, I have high expectation for this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very engaging game that does a great job of fully exploring different elements of its features. If I have any complaints it would be that the campaign isn't long enough, and quick battle has only one map. It's pretty great feedback when the only complaint is that there isn't enough game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game but it's awfully close to a visual novel, but without the softcore porn and with a lot of unrealistic nonsensical radio chatter. The voice acting isn't bad though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring and monotonous. The game trailer makes this look as a game with video sequences and some representation of the action. However, the commands are extremely basic and there is not much capacity to maneuver. Basically it is a text novel about Vietnam with a linear argument.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting concept, somewhat awkward implementation .... I like the way you can feel your position instead of simply seeing and living the experience. It works within the confines the game forces itself into ... but I also had my fair share of bugs and scripted events not triggering, so it's clear the game lacks a certain level of polish. After all, it's a no-go for a game with a lot of potential and a very different experience from what we're used to in war games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a veteran, the radio chatter is a familiar place. The game is a little clunky but the work on the radio and directing soldiers is pretty fun. Already made me laugh more than a few times. If you're into military sims than you may like this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this before, but didn't like it. Maybe a year later i installed again to give it another try. The idea is good, but its really slow. Got really bored, so i played custom game for quick battle thinking that maybe quick battle would be more action packed. But it's like hunting cat and mouse. I guess it really reflect Vietnam war. You spend more time looking for the enemy than fighting the enemy. If you like playing cat and mouse then this game is for you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun, people who say combat doesn't make sense are wrong and using the "watch replay" feature can see where everything was and what was really happening. But jfc the campaign scripting is horrible. Had to restart BOTH missions 6 and 7 because in the former at the end pigeon six kept repeating "Looks like we let one slip outside the target area!" and on mission 7, I moved bravo and echo out of the hill before they told me to (but the game lets me, while they don't let alpha??) and as such…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first couple of levels were OK, then I hit a bug where one of my squads got stuck and would not follow any movement commands which blocked me finishing the level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique idea but unfortunately not well executed. It's not that the game is poorly made but rather the basic design is flawed. This is more of a story than a game as your actions don't really change the outcome, as a result I lost interest pretty quick. The long drawn out fluff conversations also end up being more annoying than interesting, for example taking 15s just to tell a group to report position. At some point you just want to skip through it rather than play it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Very cool Concept! (I have spent time in the military working in similar Command Posts) *I tried my best to push through the jank ~4 hours -Troops do not follow proper radio procedure (they transmit without stating callsign) -Missions are meant to be played out in 1 way only -Has not been updated in 3 years -Cringe Dialogue -Unclear Game mechanics/what given Orders translate to -Morale system is confusing and misleading +great concept! +accurate difficulty settings (troops get lost, give…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First playthrough review time. I got this game for free, and it has an interesting concept for an RTS, but it doesn’t completely play like one yet. The campaign is very scripted and gives little room for players to make their own choices or change tactics. It mostly follows a fixed path made by the developers. While that can work for a story-driven game, it limits variety and makes each mission feel mostly the same. I haven’t tried the workshop content yet, so that part might offer more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love what the game is trying to do, it's not something you see a lot of and all going well would scratch an itch that many of us have. Unfortunately the mission's let the game down, not because of variety or the types of missions you play. But the direction given to you is often vague and lacks some important detail, combined with the scripting can often require you to do very specific things/go specific places before the mission is classed as complete. The result is you can have no enemy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Take control of your men" Not really since you get very little dicisions. Game seriously lacks freewill and choices like when who where and what to deploy, strange since you are THE commander. "Can you save your men" Lets be honest you dont really care about your men cause you have little and no interraction with them and again you dont decide who goes where and all off that, the only reason why you care is because you are supposed to. Now they created the "Squad Management" DLC for this but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never been much of a fan of the RTS genre, but Radio Commander was interesting (in some way) in the perspective it offered. In the RTS, you are generally the commander giving orders and strategizing the battle turn-by-turn but will typically have an overview of the field to see the positioning of the enemy as well. This game has you in the boots of a commander of the military during the Vietnam war, controlling American soldiers as you arrange them on a paper map detailing the country. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →most of my time was spent waiting in time skip, stuck trying to trigger missions. i gave up on the third one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat, but not a very good game. The devs clearly expected you to complete missions a certain way, and if you do anything different the game does not handle it very well. Decide to swing your stealthy unit around to the side of an objective rather than heading straight for it? Miss a trigger and the mission softlocks. Decide to use your units to clear the path ahead of a convoy before sending them through? Have a napalm strike trigger once the convoy gets to a certain spot, which you cannot move…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I read it as Viet Cong before realizing you meant Venture Capitalists... I might need to cut back on Radio Commander play hours
unlabelledView post →Love the idea of the game but found it to be a frustrating experience in practice unfortunately. - obviously the uncertainty of information is part of the game but combined with the micromanaging required its actually quite annoying you order your helicopters to fly to a location. You order your helicopters to pick up troops there. The troops aren't quite close enough so you tell the troops to move there and fast forward time 1 minute the troops report they have removed where they need to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very engaging game that does a great job of fully exploring different elements of its features. The only downside is that the campaign is very short
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good simulation of manoeuvring a company around using a map and radio, that was an interesting experience compared to other wargames. If you aren't interested in a slower paced game where you must use co-ordinates on a map to navigate your troops or wait for them to plod around a jungle (with time compression of course), this game is not for you. I do find it very interesting though with all the minutiae mentioned above as well as co-ordinating artillery, air strikes, air assaults and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is very little to recommend here. The gameplay is minimal and not engaging. Sometimes I don't know what commands I'm suppose to be issue to trigger the story. For a game about listening on a radio, the audio quality isn't immersive. The VA is pretty bad, especially during the cutscenes. I'd say watch a playthrough, but you'd be bored to death. This is the most generic storytelling imaginable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What you expect: Strategy game. What you get: Hamfisted lesson about race relations in the US in the 1960s. As soon as the skin color of my troops got introduced in the most cringeworthy way possible over the radio, I was out. I'm not from the US, leave me alone with that BS.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s pretty good, but it feels more like a visual novel than a simulator because events have predetermined endings, and the game can break on you if you don’t follow the mission script. I wish players had more control and freedom in how they proceed with missions. I still would recommend this game because it gives unique experience…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very buggy. Missions are tightly scripted and you can easily break and leave the game in a loop where units wont respond, wont move or repeat a message over and over forcing you to restart. Serious bugs encountered in first 4/6 missions.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Leftist crap in this game is absolutely unbearable. Obviously made by someone who wasnt even alive during the time. Like GI's that are pro-commie?? ROFL
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too many bugs to have fun the way you want to. Voice Recognition is terrible, units are bugged on normal speed and a part of random is present. The environment around us at the base and the mechanisms are quite cool though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Games Operators make some of my favorite games, I haven't played a single game from them that was boring at all. The VA for these is awesome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game really doesn't want me to like it. In the missions herein you're being provided with pretty vague info on what you're actually expected to do. And these expections you'll have to fulfill, or the mission scripts will break, as they're very dependent on specific conditions on the map to be able to proceed to completion. In the end, this is not only not a tactics game due to its narrative focus, but also by merit of being a game of mostly guess work, as in, guess what exactly the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish there was a better way to replay missions without restarting the whole campaign.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Confusing, annoying, boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome concept but poorly explained objective conditions and contexts on what to do around those objectives at times. Several bugs and UI issues. Got locked after the 3rd mission because I can't save and progress, clicking "save and exit" just reloads the ending mission report over and over so I can't progress anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is buggy. After finishing the first mission, I quit the game and continued the second day. Guess what? In the second mission, I can't do activate the radio, can't start the timer, can't continue the game, the game locked me out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the trees stopped speaking vietnamese.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is nice, but the game's not very intuitive and it feels tedious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would give this game a thumbs up, but unfortunately one of the mission campaign (mission 6, hammer and anvil) really leave a sour taste in my mouth. The concept and idea is nice, however that concept applied to playing hide and seek on a wide map with constant fog of war is frustrating
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story itself is pretty ridged, put I would still say it was good and fun. I like a lot of the mechanics and the replay function at the end of each mission. Definitely worth a playthrough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love the game but let me save alpha you sadists.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →boring, just looking at a map listening to radio chit chat, and at best not even realistic radio chit chat
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually love the concept of this game but it began to get repetitive after played for a while. Somehow the game is bugged. I can't proceed to the next level. Pros : Cool game concept for strategy game. Cons : Bugs and repetitive his game has potential but eventually sadly executed. 6/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game's good, story is good, but unfortunately this game seems extremely linear with a story that ends the same no matter what you do. The quick battle feature unfortunately gives you the same map with randomized enemy positions so there is really no variety and the custom mission editor is so hard to understand that making a mission is more trouble than it is worth. Otherwise despite everything I said I highly recommend this game to anyone looking to sink around 10hrs into a story with some…
