Developer Turnopia

Qvadriga is a chariot racing video game set in Ancient Rome. The game is turn-based and played from a top-down perspective. Players assume the role of a chariot team owner, managing a stable of drivers (aurigae) and horses (quadrigae) between races, and issuing orders to the drivers during the race. Players begin competing in provincial circuits, with the aim to amass the fame and denarii required to race at, and… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Yeah it's overpriced (I got this on sale for next to nothing), but the game is highly enjoyable and, in my opinion, a good way to spend an hour or two relaxing. If you enjoy anything to do with Ancient Romans/ancient history then this game is even better. You start with three Aurigas (charioteers), their horses and chariots. Depending on what faction you choose to race under, their starting statistics such as speed or strength vary - the Roman Army have strong chariots and horses but are…

Strategy game in which you drive your chariot like a boss. There'n no action whatsoever as you only choose faction and your next move during the race. Available tactics are throttle up your horse's engine power, smash your opponents, regain better control during curvatures or simply change lanes. For strategy game it's very mediocre. Not recommended, wait for better game with chariots.

TL;DR SUMMARY One of the most enjoyable strategy race games in many years. The worst part is the non-sensical pricing strategy of the publisher ($19.99 on PC, $9.99 on Android, $4.99 on iOS - all for the same game). Put it on your wishlist and wait for the price to hit $9.99 or less on Steam. Most negatives about this game center on the price, not the game itself. This is mispriced gem. DETAILED REVIEW This game was so enjoyable, I spent dozens of hours experimenting with factions, upgrading…

Comfortably the best turn-based chariot racing game on steam, Qvadriga offers deceptive depth inside and out of the races themselves with frequent decisions to be made that impact your immediate and longer term success. A simple game that will get its hooks into you enough that you'll wish it had just a little bit more around results, standings and statistics that would elevate this from surprisingly good to excellent.

A pretty simple game, you have up to four chariots, charioteers and groups of horses each, and your goal is to conquer the whole ancient world of charioteering. During the race you pick from many different moves that will make you shift your lane, attack your opponents, accelerate, slow down, or just hold your reins a bit more firmly. What may seem a rather simple idea, shines because of how it is done. There are MANY different race tracks in several of the main regions of the Roman Empire -…

That's a great mobile or office game, one of the very best of them, but sadly it totally lacks any endgame content or storyline, or characters so it's not the best choice for PC gaming, still I've had enough of fun with it to recommend it to every turn-based strategy fan at least to try it out. Good realistic AI & carrieges' physics model along with 10 second real-time turns with pauses between them make it an ultimate gambling entertainment where you can simultaneously identify thyself with a…

It's fun until you realize the following.- The AI does not try to win unless it is in 1st place. If it is in any lower place its goal is to ♥♥♥♥ over the person nearest behind.- The AI will ALWAYS have better things than what you can buy in your category. (And even if you go to the max category you'll likely just see mid-tier level stuff anyway.- The AI does not have to worry about $$ like the player. So it acts suicidal. It gets all its horses killed, loses its chariot, and almost dies and yet…

Not worth buying. It is just not a full game. Good bit of fun, but belongs on a free website like Miniclip in its current state. No real 'career mode', every race is basically the same and unconnected.

Recommended if you're a glutton for punishment or obsessed with this topic/period, otherwise pass on this one. Interesting take on chariot racing but it feels like the game is tuned against the player. Everytime my riders start to slide on the bend the chariot flips but I can see the other teams sliding all over and very rarely flipping. This isn't a once or twice occurence either, I just tried to do at least a dozen races and haven't managed to finish even one - and this is what I consider a…

This is clearly based heavily upon a board game called Circus Minimus published by The Gamers. That game was also inspired by the old Avalon Hill classic Circus Maximus. So be warned, this is quite literally a video board game. The game also shares lots of mechanics with the old Steve Jackson's Car Wars game, just with Chariots instead of cars. You face RNG and have to play the odds to succeed and maximise your chances. Success is never assured, even with the best of everything. With that…

You'd think "turn based" and "racing" would go together about as well as peanut butter and fish but Qvadriga really makes it work somehow. There are board games about racing and I'm thinking specifically of one by Avalon Hill called Circus Maximus that came out in the seventies, it would not surprise me at all if this developer hasn't just pretty much ripped off that system and that's the engine that runs underneath this game, it definitely has the same feel of that game and as a computer game…

IF, only IF it had more depth, like managing horses and riders with skillpoints or training or whatever - this could have been really cool. but its just too easy right now and the fun is gone after a couple of hours. really like this kind of a game though, i only wished it was deeper :(

Qvadriga is a brilliantly unique game where you manage a chariot racing team in Rome. The best part of the game is the uniqueness, as no one has really tried this before. The gameplay is great as it is hard but rewarding. You can whip other chariot racers next to you, as well as crash into them, but the same thing can happen to you. The only thing I don't like is that towards the end of races when you have the lead it can get boring. Otherwise its a great game, 9/10 excels in originality and…

I would say that people who like slow simulation games (like I do) will like this game... but not for $20. There is VERY limited content and the gameplay is lacking in flavor or complexity. If it's $5 and you like this type of game, then it's a good deal, but for $20 there just isn't enough to it to be worth the price.

Once you have the interface figured out and start playing a series of races as part of a campaign the fun begins. The games weaves a strong narrative as your Aurigas win races, survive crashes or are taken from you in the prime of their racing career. Races can really have you biting your nails hoping not to only survive, but then win. The graphics are ok- the game play is fantastic.

I picked up this game from sale in christmas for 5 euros. Very fun but it gets a bit stale after a while. it has some tactics but soon you learn that one tactic what wins it 70%. RNG usually ♥♥♥♥♥ you a bit. This game would have great potential to be online game. Best part of this game is that you can whip everything. Whip horses, whip rivals, whiff your whip, lose your whip, get whipped. I spend so far 9 hours in this game. I'd say this game is worth it if you can pick it up from sale.

This isn´t the newest of games. But even in 2014 when it was released, it wasn´t on the brink of tecnology. This said, QVADRIGA offers a lot of fun, for some time at least. It took me about 20 hours to play it through the Campaign on normal difficulty and static turns and there would now be the chance to play it through again with a harder difficulty and the so called "dynamic" gameplay mode. This makes the game a bit faster paced as it doesn´t pause anymore after each turn. Instead you have a…

Game has interesting concept but it is basicly a luck game. If your lucky you have a chance if your unlucky you might as well start the game over. Very limited in options. You have to win (first place) just to pay for the time and materials needed to race the next few races. If you come in 3rd or worse in a 16 team race you basiclly cannot afford to continue racing. So you better win first place every other race or your game will end fast. A $5 or $10 game not worth $20

In the early 1980s (yes, I'm THAT old) I picked up a game called Circus Maximus, published by Avalon Hill. The board was a huge "circus," and you had to drive your chariot by plotting out your moves ahead of time, and hope that another chariot didn't get in your way. You could channel your best Ben Hur or your best Messala, but luck was supreme. Qvadriga is very similar, and just as much fun. It proves that more complex isn't necessarily better! I got this in a humble bundle a while back and it was one of the games I was very excited about. This game is flawed. If you're far behind and it's a clear loss, there's a nice "skip" button that allows you to basically resign (and you will need to from time to time). Occasionally, you have a race that just goes perfectly, you spring into the lead and...select some benign action until the race is over. It's the middle-ground where the game shines. Attacking and defending and outwitting your…

Game is mostly based on luck. Skill of course matters, but when you hit by a bottle thrown from audience and DIE just before the goal line or roll over in a green (easy) curve there is not much you can do with careful planning and tactics. I do not recommend to friends of tactical games.

It's a racing strategy game. Make the right decisions in managing your teams of drivers, horses and horses, you might win on track. But you have to make the right decisions there, too. Crack the whip on your horses from the start to sprint and take the lead and choice of lanes going through the curves? Hold their energy back for the third lap and sprint and overtake in the race to the finish line? Spend this turn positioning for the turn ahead, or spend it lashing a rival driver or…

+ Very unique subject. I don't see any other "chariot race sim" video game out there other than some VR garbage, + Ingenuous deconstruction of chariot races into WEGO turn-based mechanics. - Sadly all that is marred due to extreme reliance on dice rolls. More often than not it feels like my tactical choices are irrelevant in front of the whims of mighty Fortuna. - The turn lengths do not match the decision making points in the race. I.e. your next turn can be 80% "green" and 20% "red".…

Race chariots by selecting strategies and then having RNG make up the difference in your performance. The game is displayed with somewhat simplistic 2D top down graphics. Having said that, once you have reasonably skilled aurigas, more durable chariots and better horse teams, you can start giving out the same punishment that you've getting off your race competitors, and that is when the game really grabs you. The first time you cross the finish line, just ahead of an onrushing challenger, while running on a rickety wheel, with a wounded auriga at the reins, and missing one of your horses, you will understand the subtle delight this game can bring.
