60 of 196 · most liked firstReview by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34633003-Gaming-Masterpieces/lists/] Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? After playing a few minutes and really enjoying the visuals, I was absolutely prepared to say so. After finishing the game, not anymore. It is a run-to-the-right-side platformer. Run, jump, climb. Sometimes you have to duck or solve a few simple puzzles, that's it. There is a lot of.... just moving to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The negative reviews for this game I feel are unjustified and don't accurately portray the games positive concepts. If you don't like a so-called "walking simulator", then why are you purchasing a 2.5D platformer? For me, PLANET ALPHA was an absolute joy to play! It's a colourful and visually appealing alien world with some intriguing art style. A beautiful alien world filled with mystery and danger. Relentlessly pursued by robotic enemies, you must harness the power of day and night as you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an impressive visual feast on rails with light puzzle solving, For what it is and the frequent sale price of two bucks or around there... I give it a hearty recommendation to those who enjoy the idea of playing the game this game happens to be otherwise disappointment could very well easily follow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have never been so bored and frustrated in a game for a very long time! 60% is walking, at best. At time you would be able to look at something in the distance, and continue walking, for about 2 - 5 minutes with nothing going on. Or you had to be on your toes because the terrain didn't really know what to do with itself. 10% sliding with timed jumps. Just to much sliding. Can't think of what to put or how to transition the areas? Slide. Want a cool chase sequence? Slide. What to progress…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- technical issues : VR bug (yep in a non vrgame) where you need to add -nohmd to launch command so it does not open as vrgame , also has display scaling problems , which makes it that if scaling is not on 100% the windows will be cropped and be in an incorrect size - it borrows from games like limbo and hollow knight but does not understand why it worked in them - does not respect players time - shallow world , beautiful visuals , but "game" not "lived-in" , shallow "lore" in environment -…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, it's just a really frustrating experience. The devs know that games like INSIDE are good, but don't understand why - they think it's just the pretty graphics. What mars this game are extremely harsh puzzles, a lack of consistency (how far you can drop without dying varies wildly depending on what setpiece the game wants to do) and unclear objectives. On the plus side, it's very pretty and has generous autosaves, so you usually don't lose much progress when you die to a stupid…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. I never thought I'd say it, but this disco ball has made me stop playing platformers as it contains every single gimmick a good platformer shouldn't possess. Considering I grew up with Commander Keen and Super Mario World, later having completed the Ori games and Blasphemous and loved them all; then I'd say that it's a pretty unique thing to occur to me that a game has made me seethe with hate. Spoilers ahead so TLDR up front: This is the platforming variant of jingling carkeys in front…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, Planet Alpha, what you could have been! Planet Alpha is a very pretty game, that in my opinion, with just a few tweaks, could have been wonderful. Sadly, despite having some excellent qualities, the game misses the mark. Planet Alpha is from the Another World/Limbo lineage of games. 2D plane, very little exposition, lovely graphics, and the like. You begin the game on a strange planet, with little to no explanation of what is going on and no exposition. You move the stunningly…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is abandoned. Having SteamVR installed makes the entire game unplayable, and the devs didn't bother to fix this issue for years now. Don't buy it, its a buggy mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →full of trial and error puzzles, and boring platforming sections. dont get fooled by the nordic arty fartsy artstyle, this is an empty shell of a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazingly beautiful, but incredibly boring puzzle platformer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very slow and boring start where you just hold right for 10 minutes while nothing actually happens. When things do start happening, you'll be wishing it went back to just holding right. Aliens show up and now the entire game is about stealth; stealth that is executed so poorly that it almost feels intentionally bad. Line of sight is irrelevant, being quiet makes no difference, and finding cover is unnecessary. As long as you hold crouch you're basically invisible. You can be in the open 2…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Planet Alpha is a 2D puzzle platformer in the same vein as Limbo and Inside, but much more brightly colored with a unique style - a 1950s alien movie. The visuals really are the highlight in this game. I love the low-poly landscapes mixed with higher detail foliage and foreground objects. Underground levels especially stand out with a ton of contrast between the pitch black background and bright, bioluminescent creatures and plant life. These levels look amazing on an OLED display.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heya folks, here's a short featuring a game called Planet of Lana by Wishfully and Thunderful Publishing. This game reminds me of one of my favorite platformers, Planet Alpha. It's quite fun as well. #planetoflana #videogames #indiegames #platformer #gameplay
unlabelledView post →No one is reading this anyway, so I'll just say that I'm glad I bought this game. And if this review gets 100 likes I'll be even more glad. Now, to be serious: Planet Alpha is absolutely worth buying on sale. It's a moderately challenging platformer with stealth and puzzle elements. Not a walking simulator, but not something that makes you rage quit either. And don't worry that your PC is too old for it. Play it on GeForce NOW and thank me later.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game is visually stunning the game's mechanics lack structural integrity and overall innovation. The mechanics and physics of the game were products of project oversight (at worst) lack of rigorous testing (at best). While I am not a developer and don't say these things maliciously, I have played a large number of platformer games over the years and the integrity of the game goes down the drain if the mechanics don't function. While this is a 3-4 hr game I spent approximately 6-hrs…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Planet Alpha is not that bad of a game. Plays similar to games such as "Limbo", "INSIDE", "Burning Daylight" and "Black The Fall". Explore lush forests and solve pretty simple platformer puzzles. The Unreal Engine 3D graphics stand out and take away from the style, but that is to be expected from an indie game. Some parts required hair-trigger accuracy and the enemies spot/react almost instantly. Annoying. Average game, good enough to relax and kill some time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly wish I could write a review for this game as it has awesome visuals and graphics. However, I cannot write a review for a game that I cannot play at all. The game still suffers critical crashes seconds into start up and my PC crash cannot be recovered unless I perform a complete reboot. Still hoping for a patch or an update that will correct this. So many possibilities with this game, but so far it is a waste of time and money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Planet Alpha has a great artstyle and beautiful visuals. Unfortunately, the rest left me disappointed. The gameplay felt slow and boring, but could still be good for relaxing a bit, I guess. That is until you arrive at a stealth section and then it felt too punishing at times. After that, right back to slow and boring. I just didn't have any fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out alright, but then heavily overstayed its welcome and eventually devolved into a series of obnoxious instant-death, trial-and-error "puzzles". It looks like it's about to end on 3 separate occassions, but then it just keeps going and going. Uninstalled it about 5 hours in (I played a lot of it offline so time played isnt correct). It wouldve been a thumbs up game if it was 2h long but as it is it just gets way too annoying the longer it goes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →'Planet Alpha' is 2.5D contemplative and interpretative game. You navigate through a colourful world full of beautiful varied alien species and poorly-designed opponents. All you have to do is to keep rushing to the right. The gameplay is overly repetitive until you reach some puzzle. Game design is not that great since I already lost more than five minutes wondering how to solve one dumb puzzle. As you progress through the game, you will quickly realize that 80% of the puzzles use the same…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly beautiful game that i'll only ever see 30 minutes worth of because although the art is worth a million bucks, the gameplay mechanics are worth 20cents. Honestly, the industry has to move away from labour compensation mechanics and embrace art tourism, nobody cares how good you are at pacman.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aside from some technical issues (as I think the game hasn't been updated in the past few years to keep up with the newest Windows & drivers ecosystem), this is a very nice and mostly very pretty adventure. Some parts are a bit rough, but to compensate for this, some set pieces are very well made. The graphics are sometimes gorgeous (mostly in the cloudy environments); other times, they’re almost ugly, though (some caverns, for example). I bought this on a sale (~$2 USD), so the value for me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Planet Alpha has a great artstyle and beautiful visuals. Unfortunately, that's about it. Not a fun game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So absolutely beautifully drawn. Unfortunately, there are only very few gameplay concepts, which makes it boring fast. It'd have been great if it were half as long.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A flawed but pretty enjoyable cinematic platformer. The platforming feels like Inside, which is to say, feels bad and unresponsive. And there's not really much of a story. But the cool art direction and the set pieces were enough to keep me playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok game, but ultimately disappointing. It can be a beautiful game at times, but other times it can be pretty ugly. It also can't hold a consistent art style and is frequently way too visually busy to the point where I couldn't tell the important bits from the unimportant bits. Gameplay wise it's basically Playedead's "Inside," but not as polished and quite a bit of trial and error to get through some of the stealth sections. Story wise it's similar to Inside in its pacing and vagueness, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work. Automatically starts in VR. This issue was reported in 2018 and the Devs haven't bothered fixing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually its nice and the story is also told visually, but it boils down to hold right then do a simple puzzle then hold right
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A colorful nice 2.5D puzzle platformer. I enjoyed this journey from start to the end, and completed the game in less than 6h. The visuals seem low poly but they are not, color composition is well chosen and the chapters have nice and different ambiance to each area. It completely relies on environmental story telling. Challenges are getting harder the further you process as in most puzzle platformers, so expect some trial and error passages especially towards the end, yet it's all solvable…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very beautiful game, lots of clever puzzles and great ambience. Really good combo of easier puzzles and tricky ones that got me very frustrated. I don't usually go to the effort of running back through a game to get all the achievements but enjoyed this so much I had to make sure I hadn't missed any of the great little easter eggs. I bought it when it was on sale but full price would still have been well worth the money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I give this game a rank C (60-65%) Okay game - not bad but you can skip it or try on sale. See my profile for more details about my reviews. I give Planet Alpha around 62%: it is definitely not a bad game, but there is a reason why this game barely has 68% on Steam, and why the small team did not do anything much after it. It feels like it was full of good ideas, but final realisation is just mediocre. Actually, there are several reasons! If you know and/or like games like Limbo/Inside, you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first it feels like a walking to the right simulator pretending to be a 2D platformer (with 2.5D graphics/visuals) with some stealth segments. After a while it finally feels like it gets some gameplay, but still most of the time it's like press/hold "right" for 30 sec, maybe jump here a bit, riiiiiiiight, ooh look hide from that enemy, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, weeee slideeeee weeeeee and you're dead because you didn't notice something, respawn from a nearby…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did I like this game eh, It is not bad just some of the areas during the puzzle when you are figuring out how to go forward without an enemy killing you is a bit of an annoying process as some things hide you and others don't so its trail and error until you figure out where the safes spots are per each time you encounter an enemy/enemies. Some areas make sense as to why you'd be able to hide there, others don't but again just trail and error. It is honestly a very beautiful game but even after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thought it was great, but you'd be mainly getting this as eye candy. It's gorgeous, and the set pieces are beautiful and well done. But it is hold-right-arrow-key to win, with some minor platforming and puzzles here and there. And often those platforming sections are more frustrating than engaging and the game lends itself more to trial-and-error gameplay than I would like. But, damn, it looks good. It's a good romp worth getting on sale if you can get behind it as more of an art piece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful Another World for Millennials The base construct of the game is similar to Another World. You got one life, jump, climb and run. You may remember the frustration of Another World when you died the 20th time just in the beginning and had to start all over since checkpoints were extremly rare. Planet Alpha is the very millennial friendly version of it since you can take some damage before you die and you always respawn where you died or on the nearest checkpoint which is mostly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't let the tags fool you, Planet Alpha is a 2D walking (running?) simulator. I was both entraced and bored at the same time. Pros: * It's gorgeous * The world is full of life, from the atmosphere to the core * Fluid level transition * Character movement is fluid * Very forgiving with precision platforming * 50's robot design Cons: * It's more of an experience than a game * Steam tags are misleading * Enemy movements are not deterministic * Hard to tell whether something is on the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had such a great time playing Planet Alpha. However, it did have a few issues at the beginning. The aspect ration on the game did not automatically adjust to my laptop. Also, the game crashed multiple times because it is not optimized for newer PCs. Luckily, I was able to find solutions to both issues in the help section of the Steam store. If you buy, this game, just know that you could encounter these issues. Aside from the issue, the game was fun and imaginative. It has amazing graphics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly, a pretty good short adventure. The biggest highlight of the game is its bright and vibrant visuals and intriguing world. That’s its main strength. It’s clear that the game is quite simple in every sense, but it’s put together very nicely. The gameplay is fairly classic, nothing surprising, but also never annoying — which is perfectly fine for its short length. The worst part is the enemies: most of the time they’re just there to keep you engaged, but a few sections with robots…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing games like this is kinda masturbate with grater. It hurts and not enjoyable but very faint feeling of pleasure is present and you hope for better(visuals). Everything else is just pain (story - just absent, sometimes you have no clue what the ♥♥♥♥ the game wants from you, clumsy jumping, view is very often obstructed and you act blindly, "run away from that ♥♥♥♥" episodes every 20 minutes ...). Just bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda just feels like a combination of War of the Worlds, James Cameron's Avatar, and Inside. Like the character you play as even moves like the character from Inside. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the game does just feel like other games I've played, or movies I've watched, plus I had to force it into Windowed Mode to even start it to begin with 'cause it kept opening with only the top left corner blown up on my screen, and it won't let me access the Settings or Quit for some reason; I have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to INSIDE or LIMBO but far more colorful. The puzzles were not really my jazz and I wasn't a fan of them. But the rest of the game? Really quite a fun ride.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a relax game that you play when you don't wanna break your head on your desk because the game is too complicated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredible visuals that create a sense of awe and really transport you to another reality
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right, so this game. It's like that awkward mate who shows up to the party with potential but ends up standing in the corner looking confused. There are moments - and I mean MOMENTS - where you're thinking, "Bloody hell, this is actually quite brilliant!" Then suddenly it's like the developers went for a tea break and forgot to tell the game. Remember "Inside"? Of course you do. Brilliant game. This one? It's like that game's awkward cousin who tried to copy its homework but got caught by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great 2D puzzle game with some pretty amazing art. You definitely have to make sure you are constantly looking in the background or you will miss something. The only negative thing i have to say about this game as there are still a few bugs here and there that need to be worked out. otherwise, highly recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, amazingly enthralling visuals. Story could have been clearer, but the visuals made everything worth it! I found myself willingly losing track of time as I delved into the puzzles and mysteries of this breathtaking universe. The ability to manipulate time added a unique layer to the gameplay. While the story did leave some room for improvement and the puzzles occasionally stumped me to the point of needing walkthroughs, the sheer allure of the visuals kept me engaged and motivated…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exploring alien world Set during assault of evil robots on unknown planet, the environment will surprise you quite a lot as flora and fauna is really interesting in this one. The basic idea behind the game is exploration with platforming and unique puzzle elements that depends on changing day/night cycle. Formula here is easy to understand and don't need much explanation. As you make your way through different habitats of the planet Alpha you gradually uncover secrets behind mysterious…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huge linear world, in which you need to avoid ennemies and make your way through the end, with some puzzles and a lot of walking just gazing at the landscapes. The world is both beautiful and creepy at times. A nice experience overall, Reached the end in 5.4 hours, but I didn't get all the achievements, so it can be longer if you want to complete it 100%. I must say that even if I enjoyed the experience, I'm too lazy to go back for those I missed ^^;
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →beautiful relaxing game , but boring as hell
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the game on stream. Everything got escalated near the end there, but I made it 🫡 🎮 Planet Alpha
unlabelledView post →I felt like playing something new this fine Saturday morning, so I started up Planet Alpha. I expected something akin to Subnautica and The Alters, but what I got is something akin to Gris and Cocoon - no context, no tutorials; just beautiful, beautiful graphics.
unlabelledView post →Nice sidescrolling jump & run platformer with some puzzles. No fighting! If you enjoyed Inside, give this 'Sci-Fi Alien on another Planet with Robots' themed Dystopia a chance. The start is a bit slow and unnecessary long, but overall really nice gameplay with beautiful colorful graphics. No free saving but checkpoints are fair. Buy when on sale 80+% off and you won't make a mistake.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has beautiful graphics but so boring gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →maybe I've been spoiled by Limbo and Inside? Planet Alpha's execution on "do occasional 2D puzzles in a strange world" seemed only very OK to me. Limbo and Planet Alpha both have the occasional puzzle that makes me go "ugh, I know what to do, can we just be DONE, already?" but Limbo also had AWESOME puzzles that made me feel like a smarty-smart clever boy. Planet Alpha wasn't doing that for me, and eventually, right or wrong, I got the feeling it wasn't going to, so I put the game down. I…
