50 of 50 · most liked firstI was really on the fence about recommending this game or not, as it is very unique and does some cool things. I'm going to have to fall on the side of not recommending it, but if you are bored and have a spare 2-4 hours it's not a bad experience by any means. Pale Echos is one of those cases where even though the game may quack like a duck, waddle like a duck, and look like a duck - it's not really a duck. Yes it's an rpg maker game, and yes it is a blend of a story, a combat system, and a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Briefly: Pale Echoes is a turn-based RPG with a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting and hosting an unorthodox combat system with almost deterministic puzzle-like battles. A cool thing about RPGMaker titles is that each of them presents their own quirks in the forms of combat (or sometimes the lack there-of) and particularly the story and setting. For Pale Echoes it is actually the remnants of that setting: A huge catastrophe has destroyed the world. There are only two survivors: a magical pixie…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a tester for Pale Echoes and was provided a copy for testing purposes. Pale Echoes takes RPGs and gives it a little bit of twist. Combat is very paper / rock / scissor-ish as you have to find out what works best against certain enemies. You gain "memories" as you play which act as additional characters during combat. Each memory has separate abilities which provide ways to heal, buff, or damage in battle. Each memory can only be used once per battle and if you run of out memories then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's a link to my review video: https://youtu.be/bXBkqJAh41c Hiya Everyone! FyreNyxie here and this is a review of Pale Echoes. This game had really unique battles and an interesting storyline that kept me wanting more the whole way through. You and your companion are the only survivors to the end of the world and you travel around putting dark echoes to rest and purifying the land. By traveling between the past and the present you collect memories that you can use to battle the echoes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pale Echoes was a surprise hit for me. I went in skeptical and came back pleasantly surprised. The game is pretty short, but every bit of it seems purposeful. At no point did I feel like I was wasting my time. The combat is fun and fresh, with a learning curve that felt appropriate. I’d really recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and fresh RPG, with some fun world building, especially if they’re a completionist.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a rather short game. It's less of an RPG than it is a rock-paper-scissors strategy/puzzle game that forces you to rely on guesswork, planning, and memory. Instead of random battles, you play against enemies with pre-set attacks. It's a novel and unconventional gameplay mechanic, but I don't know that it's necessarily an enjoyable one: there are times at which you will lose a battle because you're unprepared for how an enemy's attack pattern works, which can be rather frustrating.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was just yesterday that we covered our first game of another publisher of great RPGMaker games, Aldorlea Games, with their Beyond Reality. Today I am quite happy to cast the spotlight on Degica’s December, 2015 release of Pale Echoes developed by Wyrmling Productions. Like EternalShadow Studios yesterday Pale Echoes also happens to be Wyrmling Studios first game published onto Steam. The most important thing to note about Pale Echoes is that the combat system is unique. The combat system…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A large part of my interest in Pale Echoes came from playing a very similar game on the Nintendo Wii back in 2009: Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon . The game focused on exploring a lonely, memory-filled world following a planet-wide disaster that leaves the main character (Seto) completely alone, save for his companion. It remains one of my favorite titles on the system, and I was excited to see the formula tried again via the ever-common RPG Maker system. So, how does it hold…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pale Echoes, developed by Wyrmling Productions and published by KOMODO, is a compact yet emotionally resonant indie RPG that stands out for its thoughtful worldbuilding and unconventional approach to turn-based combat. Built with RPG Maker but designed with an attention to detail and structure that far exceeds many of its peers, the game tells a story set in the aftermath of humanity’s extinction. You play as Schorl, the last human alive, accompanied by Spinel, a magical being known as a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and sweet, plus the strategy elements are genuinely fun. Reccomend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An RPG that demands that you think before acting and adapt to the situation, rather than spamming the same strategy over and over.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game strikes a chord with me, as I aspire to make games myself in a similar way. The characters are memorable as well as the events, story, and just about everything else (considering that as I'm writing it's been well over a year since I've played it). My only complaints albeit a little nitpicky, is that I don't know if I've gotten all the secrets in any area and Ruby is way out of my league. But those are the only complaints I have, and they're not anything I would fix myself. 10/10…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The time travel aspect of the game is interesting, and the puzzle-based battle system is certainly unique, but the story is incredibly lackluster and unengaging, which might be a dealbreaker for some.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though the battle system is very simple and it's a short story, I love this game. It's challenging in later progress when you made the wrong decisions ins the beginning because you have to think tactically which is in conflict to your sympathy for the memories when you come to shattered windows. But especially I love the story-telling parts. It's easy to follow and I really like the way of story-telling through flashbacks. You learn something about the past of the characters flashback by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this during the jrpg sale and so glad I found this game. The story, characters, soundtrack, combat system (memories) are all quite charming and immersive. I grew up on final fantasy and zelda games and its just so nostalgic. You even have a fairy-like companion. Cute underrated game ٩(◕‿◕)۶
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't even know how to put how awesome this game is into words. I absolutely love it and I guarantee you will too! Pale Echoes is a 5-6 hour long rpg that is about purifying the world after it has come to it's end. The story is nothing too complicated in a good way. It is easy to understand and the twist it delivers later on did really surprise me(I can't guarantee that every one will like the twist, I just personally wasn't expecting it at all so it was effective on me). The graphics are the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had never heard of this game, saw its description when it was released, and decided to risk $4 on it. It was definitely worth it. It's far more engaging than many game with better graphics that cost 5 times as much. One of the most melacholy game I've ever played, but not crushingly depressing like Planetarian. The battles really are puzzles, while still feeling like console RPG battles. My only complaint is that it really needs something like a 200% window size, as the only options are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While it's an interesting story, and the fighting techniques are quite unique I did find one thing very annoying.... I couldn't adjust the resolution of the game. It came up in a tiny window on my screen and I had to adjust the resolution of my screen in order to make it bigger. There should definitely be some controls for making the game full screen built into the game. Also the movement is bound to the arrow keys instead of W,A,S,D, and doesn't allow for mouse clicks to make the game easier…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique battle system kinda like a puzzle in some battles, though I would have liked more specific "units" which would have made the combat system better, rather than being a "gimmick"; hard to talk about it without spoiling things. You have to think during some of the battles, which I like. No random battles / no need for grinding is also a big plus. The game uses a lot of RTP stuff alas... :/ The game takes place in a post-apo setting. The story was nice. Not spoiling once again, Expect…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Everytime I see an RPG on Steam that's not total garbage,I'm pleasantly surprised because we all know how the majority of RPGs tend to be trash tier on this platform.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pleasantly surprised by this game. It uses the standard RPG maker models, but its premise and gameplay lends it a unique air. The story of navigating a destroyed world lends the various "echoes" you encounter unusual pathos, and the mechanic of shifting between the different memories means that you feel attachment to the various ghosts you use. Somewhat heavy-handed dialogue from the spirit at times, but overall a fun game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not your typical RPG. I would describe it as a puzzle game. Very story heavy. 7/10 a bit slow but very refreshing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly loading up the game without any prior knowledge was one of the best decisions i could have made. While the story is lacking, a little short, and didnt really draw me in, the combat system itself won me over immensly. in many RPG games, your party stays with you for the whole fight, where as in Pale Echoes, they only last a single round, bringing about many different layers of strategy, coupled with the tendency of the game to throw random colour-triangle changes on the enemies, creates…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many RPGMaker games just use the default assets, default combat system, and call it a day. Not this one! This is a rare gem of an RPG in that... * ...it is relatively short - 3-5 hours for one playthrough. No dragging on for 30-60 hours, until you've gotten sick of the gameplay. * ...has a unique combat system. There is no RNG - instead, every battle is a puzzle against a unique enemy. In essence, you get three party members of your choice to join your main character for one combat round -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic little RPGmaker title, turns every combat encounter into a perfect little turn-based combat puzzle, trying to figure your way through each enemy and trick thegame throws your way. The room for error in each solution is pretty low, but every failure only brings you back to try the encounter again immediately, so it's easy and compelling to keep trying until you get it. Story is interesting enough, it does a fantastic job of feeding you the answers to your questions piecemeal, so you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Purification. Give me a regular rpg anytime. Can't recommend because I just didn't this type of game play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely a good game. The battle system is interesting. Good game when you have some Spare hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A unique core gameplay loop with an incredibly engaging setting and a thought provoking story. This is the most I've enjoyed a games worldbuilding in a long time. Plus the more puzzle like gameplay elements make the game something incredibly interesting and unique, thoroughly recommend this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's get one thing out of the way: Pale Echoes is a game that quacks like an RPG, walks like an RPG, but it's not an RPG. It's a puzzle game in an RPG trenchcoat. I think that is important to understand before going in, because having the wrong expectations can leave one soured on the end experience. With that said, Pale Echoes is also quite a good puzzle game, which is more of a reason to treat it for what it actually is. Gameplay is split between environmental puzzles that are pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it was heckin great. super cute. i'm not sure what else to say. totes worth a go tho. definitely.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool post-apocalyptic setting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has an interesting mystery story, I can be made to get into the mystery that the developer is trying to offer I think this game should get more recognition from the rpg maker community
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →been a while since ive played, but from what i remember i enjoyed my time a lot with this game. not sure what it was, but something about it clicked with me, and so played it through to completion. glad i played it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No! Refund the game. Playing this is more about luck...also it is very short and limited.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not very long. It doesn't require any grind. I enjoyed the story. I think it is right length for what they were trying to do. The combat system is unusual and I both like and dislike it. I wish they gave better clues about what to do in certain boss battles instead of having you lose the first time. I do find the graphics don't really feel post apocalyptic to me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome! It was fairly short...I AFK'd at my PC but the entire thing could easily be done 5 hours or less. But I liked what the developer did with the game. The storyline is simple enough to grab onto, but interesting enough to listen to. In combat, you rely on summoning "memories" to perform a specific attack. Each one can only be summoned once per combat, and the enemies always use the same abilities in the same order, so it's more of a puzzle than traditional RPG combat. It isn't too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is really great! the story is intriguing, the gameplay is unique, and i gotta say i've never played anything like it before! it's probably one of my favorite RPG maker games ever - if not my ABSOLUTE favorite! i highly recommend this game if you like RPG maker games with unique, fascinating gameplay!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played it a bit, I like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was an enjoyable experience. Thank you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't remember when did I buy this but I just played it recently and it was better than I expected.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Less of an RPG, and more of a puzzle game, Pale Echoes is the journey of a human and a fairy-like creature as they finish restoring the last few parts of a devastated world. You get varied attack/support characters in the form of Memories found by talking to lingering spirits. Each one can be used to attack, or buff or heal the MC. As you go along, the Memories become more varied and the enemies you face become trickier to defeat. Some of the personality descriptions of those Memories are worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a nice 4-5 hour adventure that was extremely worth my time. There is essentially a new game plus mode that can extend the length and replayability of the game. The puzzle battle system was extremely easy to understand but difficult to master. While there was some unique artwork most of it, along with sounds and music, were your standard RTP fair. That is my only criticism and even then it was handled fairly well. The story and characters were enchanting and enjoyable to get to know.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary I can't really fault Pale Echos, for the cost it was pleasantly enjoyable. Very short but given the cost it's more than long enough to justify the cost Positive Not a really a fan of RPGmaker games, however Pale Echoes puts a nice twist on the RPG experiance Reasonable cost to content ratio Negative Extremely short TLDR For the cost Pale Echoes is worth picking up, although don't expect too much and you'll be golden.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I would recommend this game, only to people who don't want a really long game that makes more sense. Not enough detail in the story, not enough background, and I finished it with almost 100% in 3 hours. Lower than my expectations were for this game, but still good. 3/5 stars
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game. I just completed the game at 95%. I'm a bit sad I was playing offline, because I got almost every single achievement. I guess it just means that I'll replay the game some time later this summer. It's well worth my time and efforts. Who this is for: 1. People that want a slow pace puzzle in terms of exploration and turn based combat, with little consequences. 2. People with no time but want to indulge in a nice heart felt story. I finished pretty quickly, 3. Y'all just feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will start by saying that as of now, I have played this game through twice in as many days. I had picked it up during a sale, hoping the money I spent on it was worth it, and I can now say definitively that it was. Honestly, I think I would have been okay paying the full price for this little creative gem. So what's good about it? Well, though the game might be short, the world is surprisingly immersive and detailed. While exploring the levels, I was pleasantly surprised by how much there…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pale Echoes is an interesting twist on the classic turn based RPG battle system with an interesting story to back it up. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing Pale Echoes and the battle system was unique and fun to figure out. I liked how you fight with one time per battle Memories which requires you to plan your strategy instead of just mashing the confirm button. The story was interesting enough to keep me hooked and the Lexicon entries which contained extra lore made for an interesting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very satisfying gaming experience - especially from an RPGMaker game! Pale Echoes really differentiates itself with it's unique battle system, player choices and lore (I love the ingame Lexicon). You can tell the developer really enjoyed creating this world.
