positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game holds a special place in my heart. The first time I played it was in 2016 (17 years after its initial release). I mention that because in many ways, Omikron: The Nomad Soul is a product of its time. Yet, in even more ways, it’s a game far ahead of its time, with ambitions that haven’t been fully realized in gaming even today. At its core, Omikron is an adventure game. You’re presented with problems that can often be solved by using the right item in the right place or by talking to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →David Bowie and I started writing this song (The Dreamers) in Bermuda in the spring of 1998. From that demo, we worked on it in 3 different studios (& with 3 different drummers) while Hours was in production. The album version & the Omikron video game version differ. David was an early riser, btw. 😎
unlabelledView post →Omikron is so bad it deserves to be studied. It’s so bad it’s captivating. It’s not fun, but the amount of hubris on display is inspiring. It has David Bowie in it, singing some (bad) original songs. It’s Bowie’s only gaming credit. This was Quantic Dream’s first game, and it could have been its last, but it wasn’t. They got David Bowie. They became an internationally recognized company, lasting far longer than most video game companies. They are thriving. Study this game, learn from its…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →David Bowie & I (Reeves Gabrels) started writing 'Seven' together in late summer, 1998. Different versions appear in the soundtrack of video game Omikron: The Nomad Soul and on DB's album Hours (which we co-produced), plus a single release & varied remixes. I didn't play this live tour performance.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Omikron - The Nomad Soul is one of the most ambitious and unconventional games of its era, a title that feels less like a traditional video game and more like an experimental digital world. Developed by Quantic Dream and published by Square Enix, it represents the studio’s earliest attempt at blending narrative, atmosphere, and player identity into a cohesive experience. Even decades after its release, Omikron remains striking not because of technical polish or mechanical refinement, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good to see Omikron: The Nomad Soul is at the V+A. For the record (pun acknowledged), the video game did not beget the Hours album. The two projects ran parallel and leapfrogged, and David Bowie & I had started song writing together for Hours long before the game developers approached him/us. 🎵

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the only reason i have 28 hours is because the runtime application keeps going after you close the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely nonfunctional on my PC even after several hours of troubleshooting. What little of the game I managed to play was awful and, after watching the rest of the game on YouTube, I clearly wasn't missing out on much. How David Cage managed to have a career in gaming after making this is a mystery to me.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like tinkering with old software and making it work? Do you enjoy obscure, flawed, and frustrating games? Are you willing to put up with bad control schemes? Confusing FAQ's? You may be interested in Omikron: The Nomad Soul. Find a savegame editor to give yourself more rings (they're required to save the game), consult multiple walkthroughs and still have a rough time trying to make progress. The big failing is despite the fighting game sections, first person shooter parts, and open…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a David Cage Enthusiast, I think it's his worst game that isn't Omikron and that's a pretty hard thing to accomplish
unlabelledView post →Omikron functions better as a curiosity piece regarding the origins of Quantic Dream than anything else. If you have a taste for Dreamcast-era open-world, proto-cinematic gameplay with no sense of direction and an extra clunky 1-vs.-1 combat system, then sure, this game is a decent, trippy blast from the past. For everyone else though, Omikron has aged like milk, and is far too pretentious and dated to really get into. I spent most of my playtime wandering aimlessly, without a clear…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unique videogames that feel long forgotten (tell me yours). I'll go first. -Omikron I experienced on the Dreamcast. This game actually blew me away back in the day. It was janky but you could tell it was highly ambitious. Bonus points for David Bowie in it. Developed by Quantic Dream.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't do it, just don't, go watch a playthrough, it's mostly mediocre then absolute trash by the end, that final boss fight is the worst designed thing I have ever suffered through. I only did so because me and a couple of friends are collectively suffering through all the trash David Cage and his dumpster fire of a company have put out. Don't get me wrong, the open immersive sim world of the first few acts is actually quite cool in that 'look at the old thing and how far we've come' kind of…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still a good game, that TODAY runs in 3440x1440. Amazing story and -yes- the controls are outdated, but it works well with a controller. For the FPS parts of the game use a mouse+keyboard. [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/243000/discussions/0/598519173680786789/]Use this for best graphics.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If one were to document the various hardships of my life, Omikron would undoubtedly be there. From the platforming that sucked ass, to the random invisible death planes that killed me instantly, to the nauseating FPS sections featuring those dogs I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate, to the unnavigably samey locations with droning repetitive music, I'm not sure Omikron itself had a single redeeming trait. By persevering with the power of friendship and homosexual hallucinations, however, I think I was able to…

I tried several times to play the game before finally completing it on the third(?) attempt. In between the failed attempts and the final one this game shadowed me like the specter of death itself, and now I am truly free. [url=https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL57hJfweW_2uqAdRACg-s5Siq_SBEwi2L]Basically killed my favorite YouTube channel. It'll kill your friendships too. Probably the reason why David Bowie never did videogames ever again. We could've asked a decade ago, but we'll never know now. Save yourself.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly unplayable without significant effort. I tried to make the controls work for me, I really did, but the game just kept thrashing and biting me like an angry animal. The fact it wouldn't let me save it after each time I tried a new key layout annoyed the snot out of me as well, it meant I had to watch the intro half a dozen times. Any game without a skip button is walking on thin ice to start with, but it is an older entry.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way ahead of its time. Always wanted to finish this, played it randomly for a few days at a friends years ago. If you're love for RPGs outweighs somewhat frustrating control schemes, this one is for you. Such a cool game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Omikron: The Nomad Soul is a deeply-flawed game that took decent ideas and executed them poorly. The one good thing this game has going for it is its atmosphere and music. The different cities of Omikron are enjoyable to explore, and many NPCs will give you exposition and background for the city you're visiting if you talk to them. The slider (car for fast-traveling) is convenient and helps a great deal when trying to figure out where a mission is telling you to go. The variety of locations is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So since I recently bought Detroit Become Human and now own all the David Cage games on Steam, I figured I'd start playing them. I skipped Omikron since the game isn't easy to run nowadays. So I download Indigo Prophecy and not even ONE minute into it I get a tutorial hosted by DAVID CAGE HIMSELF?
unlabelledView post →Limited saves (items acquired after "killing" opponents). Weird mixture of tank control free-exploration narrative adventure, first-person shooter, and side-profile 3D fighting game. None of the action elements work at all. The exploration and adventure elements are OK. Quite a bit of gross ♥♥♥♥ around women. The world feels pretty interesting - an intriguing cyberpunk dystopia. David Bowie music is good and his sequences, which I've only seen one of, are good (if goofy). "Soul Transfer" is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has terrible issues running on modern systems and has a history of poor support. Save your time and money, and don't buy this game anytime soon at least from here on steam. I would recommend purchasing this game elsewhere for the time being. So unfortunate as a huge David Bowie fan, I was looking forward to experiencing his brief dabble into video games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great blast from the past of a game. You can't go wrong with this for an open world game nothing short of amazing how you can wonder about for hours in the city. You can shoot drive and fight to your hearts content with music from late David Bowie you won't go wrong buying this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some games from the era are classics that hold up to this day. Some are hidden gems not appreciated in its day. Some were monumental for their time but are better appreciated from afar as they don't quite hold up. Omikron: The Nomad Soul belongs to none of these categories. How do you summarise Omikron? Imagine 3 different plots and 3 different gameplay systems all mixed together into a 15h long game in 1999 starring David Bowie. Its weird, its not very good but oh is it mesmerising. It looks…

I think i was most impressed by the possibility this suggested of what games could become in the next couple of decades. Now we know what games have become in that period, nostalgia is just about enough to warrant buying it but it's a hard sell otherwise.
