59 of 59 · most liked firstUpdate 25th of March: If you do like elements such as “permadeath” (within a level), “trial and error”, “replaying levels over and over again” and if you finally able to deal with frustration, go for it! First impression review after 60% completion with ~9 hours on record, based on pure facts. The game starts as find the key and open the door simulation with easy, environmental puzzles, so I was happy about it. Later it is becoming more challenging in a positive way; still happy. ;-) The in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When Sarah receives a letter from her great Uncle indicating that she has inherited his estate, she embarks to the mansion to unravel its plethora of secrets. Over the course of 3 chapters and 29 sequences, Obscuritas is packed with fun and diversified locations such as an underground vault, a fun-house, a botanical garden filled with traps, and a giant mansion packed with secrets. In order to solve her great Uncle's mysteries, Sarah must complete puzzle after puzzle, most of which reveal keys…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR if you like games like Astray but less obvious puzzle solutions, then this is for you. Pros: - Well made environments, lighting & sound design. - No unecessary stamina system. - Nice mix of essentially object collection & arrangement puzzles that punish you for not paying close attention to the environment for clues to the solution. - Brightness settings, so you don't have to suffer through darkness. - A good many batteries, matches & lightswitches that for the most part, actually light…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most frustrating game I've ever played. The fact that the maker/makers of this game decided to go full on lazymode and put invisible hellhounds to almost every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chapter tell's a lot about their creativity. Don't get me wrong, the hellhound was a good idea in the graveyard and in the asylum but then you guys kinda started overuse it. I really liked this at the beginning but the closer I got to the end the more unmotivated I became. Could have used my 19,99€ better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well from thumbnails it looks a good game but you move around using left mouse plus wasd and its not easy to control plus you cant autosave you have to continue the game till it saves the game and after 10 minutes gaming it still hadnt saved and went back to the beginning again so looks like 15 quid wasted
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say this game is frustrating as Hell, but that would be an understatement because Hell doesn't even come close. At the same time, solving the various puzzles and tests, (of which some are really hard to crack) you do get a good feel of accomplishment which forces you to keep playing. This is because you want to kick the sheet out of the game and show it who's boss. Interestingly, Obscuritas will put many of your skills to the test including memory, logic, orientation, reflexes, quick…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I started playing this game, the game looked similar to Pineview Drive. It turned out that Obscuritas was made by the same developers of Pineview Drive. Is it better or worse than Pineview Drive? Obscuritas is a lot better. Not a sequel but really good game. I have always longed to play a game where I take an adventure through an abandoned carnival and amusement park, a haunted mansion, a madhouse, and an abandoned hospital all in one. Obscuritas is that adventure and is a love letter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful generic Unity engine asset showcase. It's a storehouse of visually dissimilar assets, random deaths, and little gameplay in every generic horror environment known to man. It's not even interesting to look around in. It's much more a test of patience than any kind of skill or intelligence.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not finished with this game, I'm trying to find my way out of the cemetery presently. I would only recommend this game if you like to aimlessly run around to see what you need to do next. I hate this, I can honestly say this is the only game I can remember literally gave me a pain in my neck! It wears me out trying to find what I need to do or where I need to go. I do like the graphics, that's about all the positive I can give it!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not terribly scary if you are used to these types of games, but a decent storyline and a really good atmosphere keep you engaged. Much better, if still similar, than the developers last game, Pineview Drive. There are some really great puzzles here, the only real gripe I have is that you must complete the "level" before it saves your progress. I found that it ran better than Pineview, but could still use some more optimization. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full review at https://www.scaredtoplay.com/blogs/view/obscuritas-review I wanted to like Obscuritas, and in a way I did. The music is fantastic, the locations are cool and interesting, and there's a bit of Lovecraft mixed into it all. However, there are some issues with this game that make it tedious (tedium =/= difficult). For instance, the save system for this game saves at the start of each chapter, and each chapter is roughly 20 minutes long. That means if you die near the end of a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is honestly mediocre. It's just a copy paste of Amnesia but with worse graphics and animations. Environments are empty and feel cheap, lighting is OK but inconsistent, it's buggy and the whole artistic design is just unremarkable. Selling this for 18 dollars/euros is just stealing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Breaks in the second chapter and can not be completed. There is a part where you need a cog from a greenhouse area to make a lever work. The cog will not interact with the lever no matter when angle or distance I try. I've watched old videos from 2016(when the game was new) showing how the mechanism works correctly. This is not what happens at all in my game so I can't complete it. Even after several reloads and attempts. Thus, the game is broken and I can not finish it. Oh boy, I am really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game plenty of puzzles to solve The story and graphics are good Highly recommend this game A++++
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd say this one is better than Pineview Drive, in a lot of ways. It's more challenging (for example the game has traps and enemies which can kill you), it has actually real puzzles (not only looking for keys), it has more variety and it's more linear, cause you go in new sections of the map and you cant go back. On the other hand the game is sometimes a bit unfair or tedious, there you can refer the big labyrinth, the labyrinth in the attraction and the statues-plates-puzzle. But overall I can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. So far full of suspense, not a lot of horror, but I'm not done with it yet. You can see my gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhHyAR5_fmk
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seriously, if the game was more about puzzles and less about horror, it could be better. Enjoyed the first chapter and was nothing but annoyed for the rest of the game. It doesn't make you want to accept the challenge you face, it only makes you wanna drop and uninstal. There's no fun in redoing the half of the level from the last checkpoint you had quite a while ago, if you did at all. There's no horror in being killed over and over and getting all the same jumpscares. For the year it was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You`ll love it. Then you`ll bash your head against the keyboard in rage multiple times (in between 10% and 90% of the game). Then you`ll love it again. Then you`ll quickly and suddenly feel like something is still missing.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“Obscuritas is the kind of game that sneaks up on you, messes with your mind, and leaves you nervously glancing over your shoulder long after you’ve turned off the screen. It’s a psychological horror that draws heavily from the mechanics of Pineview Drive, so if you’ve played that, you know you’re in for a tense ride filled with creepy atmospheres and heart-pounding moments. The game throws you into a massive, eerie mansion—because where else would nightmares live?—and it wastes no time in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alot of problems with the puzzles not working
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, you thought Pineview Drive was bad? Well, I'm here to break the ice: Obscuritas is, unfortunately, a far bigger stinker and shows how VIS-Games learned absolutely nothing from the flaws of their previous project. Once again I've let Steam screenshots deceive me, thinking this could be a hidden gem and maybe even a step up from the monotonous halls of their first attempt at creepy walking sims in 2014, though God knows I should have listened to all the negative reviews, especially with their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same reasons as other reviews: -lighting is piss poor -Flashlight is only decent when at full battery.. which doesn't even last long, maybe a minute or two. -you can accidentally blow out candles you lit if you hit E again, effectively making you waste a match. -cheap jumpscares and lame repetitive sound effects that try to spook you... -when the mechanics that can actually kill you come along, it gets worse because bad lighting can make you kill something that gets you killed, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best looking Unity games i played so far. I play with a GTX 1080 card and a 165 Hz g-sync monitor, so i have no performance problems and can enjoy this game with a 1440p resolution. I love the creepy atmosphere! I'm glad that the developer took some early critcs serious and updated the game in sense of adding checkpoints, making some levels easier, optimising performance.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game immensely, best to play it alone at night with headphones on. The suspense keeps increasing with every puzzle that you pass, and the achievments act as hints for when you're stuck on a level. 10/10 love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obscurities (Pineview Drive 2) Obscuritas is a mediocre horror adventure. The story is weak, and the impressive amount of backtracking is frustrating. Technically speaking, the game doesn't stand a chance against other eminent competitors (like Outlast and SOMA). The game is not a complete failure, however: it has a good variety of puzzles and a perceptible tension.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/9686972/]Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this! A first-person puzzle game with elements of horror. This was a borderline thumbs-up, but the game just has too many issues for me to recommend. • The game is extremely dark. I get they were going for a horror vibe, but I shouldn't have to turn the in-game brightness all the way up, turn on the lights and flashlight, and still squint to see anything. • The puzzles…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an initial disclaimer, I did not play this game until after they amended some of the major complaints I've seen others mention (namely, the lack of checkpoints in long levels). Short story: This game is playable, and does have some decent moments. But overall, it's another entry in the list of "mediocre horror games that I picked up despite the reviews." Long story: In Obscuritas, you play as Sarah, who one day inherits her estranged Great-Uncle's country estate. As the "inherited old…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is so much I want to say about this game. I've lost count how many times I've said this, but I really wish Steam would have a neutral button because this is how I'm feeling about this game. I may have more detailed negative things to say about it, but I'm feeling neutral overall, to tell the truth. Positives: - Nice creepy atmosphere and sound effects. - Challenging puzzles. A lot of game developers seem to dumb down with their puzzles, making them extremely easy. It's been awhile…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7.5 / 10 I finished Obscuritas on normal difficulty in 12 terrifying hours. It has an intense atmosphere and the music / sound effects are amazing and suck you in immediately. The graphics aren't on a triple A level but done by professionals without a doubt. A lot of smaller or bigger references are hidden throughout Obscuritas and never failed to make me laugh, which was a more than welcome stress relief during intense or frustrating moments. 80% fear 20% frustration. Obscuritas doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If a German video game developer tried to create a horror game, but had never actually seen a scary movie, played a scary game, or experienced basic fear in their own lives, then that is what Obscuritas would be. Maybe they had also heard vaguely that there was once a game that existed called Myst. Not only was the game shoddy in appearance, it also had sub-par voice acting and generally a lazy design aesthetic. The puzzles felt like they were created by a very bored locksmith, as every…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game to play at night for yourself or with friends!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obscuritas erinnert sehr an seinen Vorgänger Pineview Drive.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the game, good music atmasphere graphics arent bad too dark in certain places flashlight can be annoying when running low on batteries. The first half an hour is good in the mansion finding keys which is what you do throughout the entire game but the mansion has an extra 50 rooms or so that you cant see from the outside. And there is also a portal which you go through and the developers chuck everything horror they can think of to you theme park horror carnival of horror mental asylum…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it with 90% sale so it wasnt to bad. I had to stop though because about half way through it is suddendly drenged in extremly anoying moving and colloured lights. I have played a lot of games and even with trigger warnings I never had one actually triggering my migrane... until now. No trigger warning, no way to skip ahead or dimm those lights so no way for me to keep playing. If you are photosensitiv stay away from this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obscuritas is a first-person horror adventure that attempts to blend psychological unease, environmental tension, and classic puzzle-solving into a single experience, placing you in the shoes of Sarah as she inherits a remote mansion and quickly becomes entangled in the dark legacy hidden within its walls. From the outset, the game tries to evoke old-school horror sensibilities — dim corridors, heavy silence, creaking doors, flickering lights — and for a time, it succeeds. The early sections of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It started off with a good set of interesting puzzles, but chapter 3 really went down hill. That ghost dog is one of the worst stalker enemies ever. During the big chase with it, it sometimes pops out of nowhere like the whole chase is trial and error. 6/10 for me. The good outweigh the bad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't like leaving bad reviews but I think this is genuinely one of the worst games I've played, easily the worst horror game. So disappointing given the frankly fantastic atmosphere at the start and generally pretty good visuals throughout, but it just descends into a collection of every worst horror game puzzle type dialed up to be as slow and painful as possible. So much trial and error without even any scares most of the time. About 95% of the jumpscares felt like they were audio only, I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game sucks, the developers are even worse, do not buy this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game under any circumstances
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bad but was enjoyable and good in many places. was pretty and had story... for the first half, until it started punishing exploration and began unfair deaths. after that the gameplay and tone shifts, it wouldn't necessarily be bad if it wasn't for everything becoming disjointed with zero explanation. as a writer: I can see ways to fix this and stitch it back together without modifying the game in any major way... however functionally some areas are broken and need work like the ghost dogs…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im a bit confused about this game. While i do recommend it as it was the first horrorgame i bought with 13, i still think its so buggy lol. Buy this game if you like older horror, but dont expect too much :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fine. But too random, and unfocused. What is the story? I'm not sure. Something about a family testament and mansion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been letting Obscuritas collect dust in my backlog for a long time, and I wish I'd gotten to it sooner. I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. It starts off like any run-of-the-mill horror game in a big creepy house, but ends up taking you through a variety of locations and settings so you always have someplace new to explore. There are also a myriad of puzzles and challenges, which range from clever and satisfying to sometimes being somewhat obtuse and frustrating. However, each new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew this game would be bad before playing because of the reviews, but I played anyway. I got what I expected. I think it tried forming a story at the beginning, then it just took you random places with no explanation and no story. The gameplay was very repetitive. There's only 3 types of levels. 1:Door opening simulator while looking for a key to open the next door. 2: Random tediously long maze 3: look for random objects that go to something but good luck figuring out what it goes to, oh…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring key hunt with some try-and-error puzzles and a terrible flashlight that only works properly when it's fully charged
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i sadly can't say this was a good game, made by the same people that made pineview drive, i was expecting something pretty good but the puzzles can take a little bit to even start and the scares are just not really scary because they are the same scares in pineview drive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very good game which held your attention or ambition to complete even though it could be frustrating at times. I very much enjoyed playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is too dark, literally. I didn't mind the puzzles but at one point I had brightness all the way up and it wasn't that the puzzles were hard it's that I couldn't see where I was going.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hoped I would like this game but just too many problems and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ abound. Game deleted.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i recomended game its good, but sometime it make was your time for not reason... like keep in a closed room waiting 5-10 minutes something happen and just a door get open and not puzzles or anything... but about general the game is pretty good, i recomended it
