NNK2 is an okay sequel but nothing special that makes it worth the cost, not to mention that this game lacks a lot of charm that NNK1 had, likely because Studio Ghibli were not involved in NNK2. One massive gripe I have is just the overuse of assets. For example, there is one cave map that is used for every single cave you enter and visually, it is dull. You hear the same 3 songs as you go through the game and the same 3 voice acting…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →before i start this review - i ADORE this game (will explain). this is a MIXED review, not negative. ^w^ for context, when it was coming out, i was OBSESSED with stampy's playthrough of this game (highly recommend for the voices + good vibes alone), and sunk 250+ hours into it myself (on a friend's acct, hence only 50hrs here since i bought it again), along with playing a good chunk of the DLC. basically, this game is like a comfort food to me - really satisfying, comforting, and tastes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A beautiful game with a charming visual style and a colorful, fairy-tale world that’s a joy to explore. On the downside, the story feels a bit too childish. From the very beginning you can tell exactly how it’s going to play out, and that’s pretty much what happens. Still, that didn’t stop me from having a good time with it. I just have to admit that toward the end it started to feel a little boring. My final score would be 7/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ni No Kuni II: A Kingly JRPG, But Not For Evermore Summary: Ni No Kuni II is like a nice bowl of soup: warm, comfortable and inoffensive, but tends to end up cold and gross if the bowl is too big. Ni No Kuni II is some very good soup in a very big bowl. While I initially fell in love with it for too many reasons to list, the very same reasons had a tendency to have outstayed their welcome by the end, especially if you’re insane enough to attempt playing the DLC. Still, for those of you who can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the few games I could not get through. Loved the first one years ago, and liked it on the replay. This game however, is pretty tedious. There are like 5 enemy types and it gets old really really fast. Every fight is just spam until you get your big attack charged up, then release it. Oh - and all of the cool world bosses that you would want to be a challenge can be beaten by walking in a circle and using your ranged attack. They'll just keep chasing you, you keep shooting, and they'll…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a beautiful game, but sadly one that uses a horrible 90s mechanic of only allowing you to save at certain places. I choose to play games on my time. Games that insist I play them until they let me save are not my cup of tea. If you are ok with that, it's cool looking. But I cannot personally recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't completely 100%'d the game yet, but I did finish the story and I'm decently far into developing the kingdom. I'll edit this after finishing the 100% if I ever feel motivated enough to do it. Here's what I have to say though: Pros: - This game is really engaging, the pacing is good and game mechanics really hook you easily. - Visually, this is an absolutely stunning game. Absolutely loved the art style and the soundtrack is excellent. The graphics still hold up for modern games and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When this game first came out, I 100% completed it, and had fond memories of the experience. Just recently I went back in to 100% it again (mostly because DLC had been added since, and I wanted to get the achieves from those) and I must say the game has not held up. The game is an aggressively mediocre ARPG combat system with a boring and one-dimensional RTA combat system stapled on. And a boring and one-dimensional kingdom management sim stapled onto that. All under a story that tries to do…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game starts off as a charming, whimsical RPG with gorgeous visuals and an engaging kingdom-building mechanic. But once you get past the main story and dive into the post-game and DLC content, that magic fades fast—and what you're left with is one of the most boring, padded endgames in modern JRPGs. Even if you're massively over-leveled, battles in the DLC dungeons and post-game trials are a grind, and not in a good way. Difficulty spikes come not from clever design or strategic depth, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m conflicted, but here’s the bottom line: if you love JRPGs but hate kingdom or city-building mechanics, just skip this one. To be honest, the kingdom-building system was the only thing that kept me going. I even found myself leaving the game AFK for hours just to make sure my kingdom’s progress didn’t stall. But here’s the kicker: the best gear in the game isn’t even tied to your kingdom's development. Instead, the game forces you into a brutal, mindless grind heavily dictated by RNG.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is wonderful RPG with so many enjoyable elements. Some players might compare it to part 1 and be instantly put off by the fact that the creature collection aspect has been removed. If you have given this game a chance beyond the introduction, you will find it features many beautiful aspects as well. Gameplay is varied and consistently enjoyable. The real-time combat system is fast-paced and accessible, offering plenty of depth through character skills, weapons,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish this rating system was a little less binary. I have mixed feelings about this title. I have rated it negatively, but I don't hate the game. It is, however, deeply flawed. The overarching narrative is decent, though at times predictable, and even a bit rushed. Regardless, it was a solid story. That said, while the characters were likeable, they weren't special. At no point did I find myself connecting with any of them. I formed no attachment at all, and if you were to remove any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ni no Kuni II is a charming and feel-good RPG that’s easy to get lost in. The art style is bright and colorful, giving it that classic animated look that makes the whole world feel alive and inviting. The combat is fast-paced and more action-focused compared to the first game, which keeps things moving and makes battles fun without being overly complicated. On top of that, the kingdom-building system adds a nice layer of progression that gives you something meaningful to work toward outside of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could give this a middling score. It's not a bad game by any means, but what its is, is complicated. Below, I'll be posting a spoiler-filled rundown of what my issues and loves for this game were. For a Tl;dr, I'd give this game a 7/10. Fun, but not as good at the 1st game. This sequel abandons a lot of what made the original so unique - gone is the Familiar system, as well as the heavy lean into hands-on learning. One of my big, early complaints was the loss of the Wizard's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, overall!! The story is a bit dumber than in the 1st game and some characters are weirdly (and subtly) sexualized, but in the end the moral of the story is absolutely valid: forgiveness. That's what Christ did for us in His cross: redemptive and free forgiveness of every mistake and mental prisons for everyone who solely believes He is Lord and God, the One who teaches us how to forgive by loving us to death first. Welp, but I digress... as I was saying: The game is beautiful…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game : Ni no Kuni™ II: Revenant Kingdom Developer : LEVEL5 Inc. Score : 8/10 This game turned out to be even better than what i was expected, this is exactly what i wanted from a fantasy jrpg. Gameplay : The gameplay is actually generic, and the game teach you almost every core combat mechanic (like heavy attack, ranged attack, higgledy, spells, etc.) pretty early in the game, so keep in mind that the combat can get quite repetitive real fast. Thankfully, each major boss has a unique…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tries to do Tales style combat but doesnt get it right, game is ridiculously easy and the story is the least cohesive thing Ive seen. Very disappointing with what little they do with alot of the interesting elements in the story to say the least. Looks nice if you dont mind studio Ghibli but theres only a handful of enemies so youjre always going fight the same thing ad nauseum. Buy on Sale if you want but this game will try your patience and the story will not pay off
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this game pirates ages ago lol but loved it so much I decided to add it to my collection. Played it before there were any DLC for it and now i got to enjoy it again. I did find the DLC content to be super grindy, repetitive and rather boring. I'd still recommend this game to anyone. It's a classic.

I don't know why specifically, but it feels like it took really long to finish Ni no Kuni II. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After putting this game down again and again for 4 years, I finally finished chapter 9 today. Considering that this is a game from the same franchise as the first Ni no Kuni title, this game can not hold up in any way. The creators of this game were in my opinion not aware of what made the first game such a good game. Instead, they reinvented things that for me were some of the best features in the first game. Things that were unnecessarily changed in this game that should not have been…

The world is beautiful, the characters are memorable, and the story has that classic charm that makes the whole journey enjoyable from beginning to end. It’s one of those games that just feels good to play, whether you're exploring, building your kingdom, or progressing through the story. Overall, it’s simply a great game. Every time I replay it,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the worst rpg I've ever played. Got this expecting Ghibli levels of writing, what I got would have made Disney embarassed to publish this. The voice actors mostly speak a word or two of their entire dialogue (sometimes not even a real word, just a grunt) and the overall writing feels like it was made to appeal to 8 year olds. The combat is easily the worst part of the entire game. If played on the easier difficulities it's just spam your attack key until the fight's over. On the harder…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My kids and I played this together for 50 hours. Here's what they think of it. This game was sooooo much fun. It had a lot of story and elements that other games might not have. The art looked amazing and I think it might have been in my top 5 games to watch/play. I personally think that Tani is the best character. The game itself has just the right amount of story and adventure to it. I recommend this game to people looking for story, adventure, family connecting, and definitely FUN! Ni no…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oddball of a game, it's like a wolf in sheep's clothing, pretending to be a JRPGs when it's in fact an open world action adventure game with RPG elements and it's funny, it does so much genre bending I don't really feel inclined into calling it and RPG by any stretch. Mechanically bloated, and narratively fine that I can't really recommend it wholeheartedly
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 JRPG, Party Based, Kingdom Management Game! If you guys like JRPG, party based game, and managing something, then this game is FOR YOU! The graphic and the music are AMAZING. Also the story is good and unique. The game also has a mechanic like in Mount And Blade, where you lead your army to fight other armies. THE COMBAT STILL JANKY THO
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After sinking hours into Ni no Kuni II, I can say it's one of those games that's genuinely hard to pin down — it's charming and cozy in a way that almost nothing else is, like a playable Studio Ghibli film where you help a catboy king build a kingdom and unite the world through sheer optimism. The action combat is smooth and satisfying, the kingdom-building scratches a real itch, and Joe Hisaishi's soundtrack is predictably gorgeous. That said, the story starts strong and then slides into a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful aesthetics! The fact that you can run this on a mid-level or low end graphics card is awesome. My issues the game gets a bit repetitive. Its a story driven game but there's barely any voice acting. This makes it difficult to submerge into the story which is the best thing about the game. Reading long drown out captions is really boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this on the Switch and it was an horrible experience with lowres texture and dubious framerate. Luckily the Steam version is there to save the day... bad point, no idea why Level 5 tought it was a good idea to encrypt the save file, so if you extract this game save from your Switch you won't be able to continue it on the PC contrary to a lot of other games ! BEWARE. The entire experience feels like a gentle fairy tale — very pure, very kind, almost like King’s Ranking. The story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LEVEL5 has killed any love I have had for any games they make over the years. This one was one of the best and I wish I could still care but everything new they do is AI and they even did the NFT thing at one point. I can recommend supporting anything they do now. Will you like and have fun with this game if you play it? yeah I guess most will. But really do you want to support them?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very odd plot. I didn't care much for the end of the game but it gave me many hours of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the art style. It's basically if Ghibli made a game. I think it would be a great multiplayer game if that were possible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my 2nd playthrough of the game after having finished it on the Switch. Definitely not my favorite JRPG, but it's cozy and I enjoy the side quests to recruit citizens for the kingdom. This is a good JRPG, maybe even great. The combat could be more fun (prepare to be staggered over and over by the enemies) but I still enjoy all aspects of the game. Solid 7/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was going to write a comically short review, reference the length of my review for Ni No Kuni I, and just be like, "game good, do recommend lol." But the more I thought about it, the more I drafted an actual review in my head and might as well not let the thought go to waste. I think it's appropriate having logged 240 hours in one playthrough and nearly 90% of all achievements unlocked. There is a world of difference between NNK1 and NNK2. I feel the writing of the story and characters took…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →* Story - 3.5/5 Quite ok straight line story. Interesting enough to push you to next objective, but nothing special. Also i like characters in first part more. In this one main hero is kind of bland, his main goal is too idealistic. And main villain doesn't feel like a bad guy. * Graphic - 5/5 In first part it was masterpiece, but in this one it still very good. * Combat - 3.5/5 Combat is "Tales" like. I like the limited amount of consumables per battle. Because of it you can't heal forever.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OVERALL: 3/10 This is a bad anime J-RPGs that feels like a mobile game. LEVEL5 Inc. is the one of the most untalented group of game makers I have ever seen. What is most enraging is that this is ALMOST a good game. Characters: 3/7 + To main character Even is actually kind of enduring +\ - Roland is introduced nicely but fails to develop OR make any meaningful statement. - Most characters are underdeveloped. - The writing is worse than FF13 in terms of writing. At what seems like random parts of the game it will be voiced but not all of that part either. Now how is the rest of the game? I played it with my mom and she enjoyed the story for me the story was kind of generic if you watch anime as all the bad guys were able to be told even from the beginning of the "chapter". The gameplay was fun though as it is split up into the main…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is long and grindy, but surprisingly i love it. The best part, i think, is building the kingdom. Filling it with citizens; expanding, building and upgrading your kingdom is satisfying. Knowing every citizens there with different backgrounds and stories. The artstyle is always will be one of its main attraction. And its DLC, giving more extra gameplay build is great to have.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is my happy place man. The music, the graphics, the characters, the environments. It's all just perfectly magical for me. It makes me happy in a way that no other game does It has a lot of elements that nod to games of my childhood, esp the 16-bit FF games and Suikoden I and II. The overworld exploration feels like those games with smaller, cartoonish icons of your characters on the world map. Just like early FF, you begin on foot, and then you get other forms of transport later,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story, visual, and kingdom building is fine. The event-handler (when a physical button is pushed, the software executes the applicable action) is slow. Whether it be navigating menus, dialogue, or in-game combat, the event-handler straight up soils the experience; it is slow. Note, I'm playing on Expert difficulty. If you're going for story and playing on an easier difficulty, then it might not be much of an issue.
