What people are saying
Mixed reception: charming pixel art and voice acting, but tedious gameplay and repetition divide players.
Many players praise the pixel art, voice acting, and multiple endings that encourage replayability. One reviewer notes, "Great Pixel art" and "Loved the voice acting" (R6), while another highlights "high replayability due to many different endings" (R21). [6][21]
However, critics find the gameplay tedious and repetitive, with slow walking and limited interaction. One player calls it "one of the most tedious games around" (R28), and another complains you need to replay a lot to get the achievements... It get's boring when replayed (R34). The lack of a run button and forced replays are common frustrations. [28][34]

41 of 41 · most liked firstThis must be some kind of joke. If you thought that this will be a peaceful point&click game with a retro-esque visual design with lots of good stories and nice puzzles, then you were wronged the same way as I was. Visuals are the only good thing here (which already is a big red flag for a point&click game if this is the main positive thing) and even that wasn't made in a good way, cause there are graphical glitches everywhere. But maybe let us start from the beginning as this is not as…

The game is easy enough. During a period of five days (Monday through Friday) you travel back and forth between two cities on a monorail consisting of a couple of cars through which you can freely roam. You play with two main characters in turn, Silvie and Ahmal, in four scenes per day: the morning trip, and the evening trip. You move the main…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What completely bombed "Monorail Stories" for me is the need to replay all chapters with no ability to save in order to test out different decisions and the lack of hints or logic in the interactions. I suppose, the obscurity of causality and choice finality may be great for storytelling, but, well, a good story is not necessary a good game, and I'm also not too certain whether the plot is that great.

In a total change of direction, Stelex now brings us Monorail Stories. At first glance, it is a simple game that follows the rather mundane lives of two commuters (Silvie and Ahmal) as they ride the monorail between City L and City M, The game takes place over a five-day work week, with 4 trips per day (2 commuters riding from home to work and back).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although this game is fairly short clocking in at about 30-40 mins, it's not really meant to be played once. There are so many different choices you can make and everything you say makes an impact. The story is pretty fun so it won't be painful for you to explore what this game has in store. As you may imagine, the gameplay itself is more of an afterthought, the walking mechanic is there just for the sake of you being able to interact with different items/people. It would be great if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really nice game, maybe a surprise title for 2022 even! I did not play it through yet. But it has lots of elements that I like already: - I'm a train / monorail fan and there are many classical elements from train history in this game - I can somehow feel with the characters as I commuted on the subway of Hamburg for 13 years myself - The soundtrack is relaxed and non-intrusive - The pixel art is really cool, love the style - The monorail is believable I won't spoil you, but the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Supposedly, this is a short game, but I couldn't force myself to finish even that. Don't expect any puzzles or gameplay. There are decisions from time to time, but nothing to lose sleep over. It's like a visual novel, except you also need to slowly walk to and fro the same three or so waggons of this monorail again and again to talk to people which would be fine if the writing was any good. Spoiler: it's not. It's cringe and boring and what even is the point of any of it? Waiting for the train…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know what the postive reviwers played (or if they played it at all). For me this is one of the most tedious games around. You play on a Monorail (heck, that's what the titel says). Each day is divided into 2 parts: Morning for the female and evening for the male protagonist. Now you encounter exciting events: like a missing scarf, a runaway cat, getting an aspirin for a friend with an headache..... And it is your mission to solve those riddles with logic and wit. Ehh....NO. No logic or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have only played one time through so far, but I have been enjoying it. I like the art style and the voice acting. One critique I have though is most of the time it's not obvious that one of your actions is going to end the scene, which is very frustrating when there is more you want to do in that section.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bit of a forgettable CYOA-game with just the outlines of a more interesting universe visible. The concept of this fantastical monorail would be more exciting if we could see more of it. The story and main characters share some similarities to Russian Doll season 1. The game wants you to play it more often to explore other possibilities, but I felt that the ending I got was good enough not to bother with exploring darker outcomes.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A scenic ride to Nowhere, with plenty of time to regret boarding "Monorail Stories" greets you with charming 8-bit visuals, the sort that whisper promises of nostalgia and quirky charm. Unfortunately, much like a real commute, the novelty wears off after the first few stops. What begins as a pixelated journey soon devolves into an endless loop of trudging left and right through nearly identical train cars, engaging in dialogues so inconsequential they could be replaced by elevator music…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short but replayable little story, great pixel art, and fully voiced (kinda rare in indie point & clicks!). I had fun searching for all the endings, and yet still feel like there's more to find out. Oh, and you can pet cats :3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very good. Like very good from start to finnish. Pros: - Great Pixel art - Multiple choices for multiple endings that I want to play it again - Loved the voice acting Cons: - Some of the choices feel too obvious - There is some things that may need trigger warnings - I could not stand the child. Haha Honestly it's a lovely game and I can't wait for my next ending as the ending I got was great but also left some mysteries to be solved. I give it 4/5 strangers on the train.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been waiting for this game ever since it was announced. Played a few hours to far, and it's been really interesting and chill so far. Love the art style, the story and the OST. Excited to see where it goes!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →short simple game. I played 3 times to get the ending I wanted. Each time gave me slightly different options when interacting with the npcs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting story line!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this game. I have played through it about 10 times, because although it takes less than an hour to beat, I am now enjoying trying to unlock all the different achievements and endings. I read that the game was a kickstarter project, and I have to congratulate the developers on making a great, well rounded and polished game. The pixel graphics are great. I bought the soundtrack because it was excellent. The story is simple but good, and I feel emotionally attached to the characters.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The voice acting has the right amount of nuance to empower the player to make the "correct" choices. **SPOILERS BELOW** I got the perfect ending on my first run, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be this easy. I suppose the concept of synchronicity is complimented by Friedrich Nietzsche's eternal occurrence. That is, the same scenario reoccurs, but what kind of person is willing to repeat it step by step, again, in the same manner as before, and which kind doesn't?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As boring as waiting for a train | KAMGUSTA's MINI REVIEW Your first thing to do is to set the walking speed to maximum - and it will still be slow. Then quit the game. Joking aside, it's a simple (1 hour length) 2D adventure with monologue dialogues, no inventory and multiple endings (depending on your choices). I got the perfect one on my first casual playthrough. Strangely, you have choose how to respond to people, in a "good" or in "bad" way, but not WHAT to respond - it comes after that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought it had potential as a multiplayer game but when playing with a friend it was less interesting and more difficult to figure out what we were supposed to do. It's a slow game and probably best for solo play when a player wants to kill time or relax. The mini-game at the platform held more excitement for both of us playing.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just realized that I misread the original post but I’m leaving this up cause of 1. The absurdity that $5 Eshop cards exist 2. The fact that a game called Monorail Stories exists, it’s only $6 when it’s not on sale, and it actually looks pretty cool.
unlabelledView post →At first, Monorail Stories seems like a point and click game, but it's more like a visual novel to me. It tells stories, several stories in a monorail background. The story is not that deep, but enough to make me wants more of it. The voice acting is good, and the music is charming. Unfortunately, the gameplay is mediocre. There are a lot of walking around but not many object to interact to. I wish there is more to it than just walking and talking. I still recommend you to grab it if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable game, cool idea. Good voice acting. The story has some weird bits, and there seem to be a bunch of branching options, looking forward to replay and maybe piece some more things together. One playthrough is short-ish (took us 2.9hrs), but it's still enough to build an interesting world and some interesting characters. Played co-op, one person has to wait during the other's "turn". There's a mini-game while you wait, or you can just wander around the beautiful station (with nothing to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good, but not that good. My biggest issue with this game is that you need to replay a lot to get the achievements. It's a good story if you only play one time. It get's boring when replayed, you can't skip, you have to replay the whole game. So repetitive, your choices barely change the main plot and different endings are so short, just a couple of new texts. I like the concept, has nice voices, music and graphics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game's art and storylines! It's cool to see how many different versions of events there are. The voice acting is particularly appreciated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played through twice and got "bad" endings both times. I have to figure out how to get the other endings. Anyway, the controls are easy once you get to know them (I had to figure them out). It's easier played using the arrow keys and the enter key with your right hand. I like the dialogue and the music. It's such good background music. I got the achievement that totally references the movie Spaceballs and I seriously loved it! I do wish for a couple of things....chapters or days you can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like cute little dialogue games where the choices matter, I HIGHLY recommend this one. I've spent a decent amount of time trying to figure out the ins and outs of each chapter and which decisions matter and still have yet to discover all the secrets. The characters are likable and its definitely got tons of replay value. I bought this full price, would buy again. Will probably be putting at least another 30 hours into the game trying to solve all the secrets and achievements of this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short adventure game with high replayability due to many different endings you can get. I enjoyed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A monorail connects the City of M with the City of L. Silvie and Ahmal are both passengers, riding in opposite directions. This is mostly a character-driven story about their daily lives; the conversations you have on the train with people you know only from sharing a commute with them, the funny/heart-warming situations they find themselves in. It's well-written, fully voice acted and the art is really nice. On my first playthrough I got the bad ending, but since it only took 70 minutes I was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 interesting concept but very buggy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think the title screen may actually be the best part of the game. It paints a picture of a charming game about two cities connected by a monorail, but the mechanics and writing fail to deliver. You just walk up and down the same train with largely the same people and same points of interaction, with nothing really interesting happening at any point. Conversations are forgettable at best and the voice acting sometimes makes the already janky dialogue even worse. I like the premise, I like the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i dont know if the heat this game has gotten is deserved. it is a point n click adventure, and like any of those it has its own world and twists. there's multiple endings and ways to handle things. i thought finishing sylvie and ahmal would unlock more playable characters, was a little strange to have character selection when there is never more than one option.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and Sweet - Trying to clear my long backlog by playing shorter games according to HLTB Voice Acting well done and both main characters likeable. Got one of the "bad endings" and although it only took me 1-2 hours I will replay at a later stage. It looks like you cannot reload a previous save but the game has lot of choices. Unsure what bearing that has on the overall ending.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll give it a like, because feel you really have to dislike a game to give it a thumbs down, but realistically, if I were rating on a five star scale, it would be more like three stars out of five. I really liked the voice acting; in particular, I definitely felt the emotions of the characters, and in many voice-acted games, the affect is flat. With one caveat; who ever did the English localization had British dialect in mind, while the voice actors have American accents. This leads to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I backed this game on Kickstarter and I have to say I am really disappointed with the final product. The inputs lock-up and prevent you from progressing. There wasn't much thought put into this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyed all the interesting characters and the simple gameplay that made it easy to follow the story, even if i did get the tragic ending haha
