60 of 104 · most liked firstI'm a sucker for rhythm games. I started out being a bit disappointed with Frequency and Amplitude but found my home with Guitar Hero and played countless hours mastering that little plastic clicking machine. So when I saw this game, one tying rhythm together with metal and shooting mutant monster things, I figured surely that can't let me down, right? It let me down... I feel like I am missing something here. I just do not understand how people are enjoying a game that seems to be pulling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite outstanding art direction, I do not recommend this game right now. __________________________ EDIT : it's getting far better now. I'm waiting to see if they can definitely solve the problems, and if it happens, will turn this in a good review. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is a rythm game at its core. A rythm game where notes on tracks slide according to performances, are out of sync with music, and are poorly detected on input. Best way to realize this is to try and score perfects…

We’ve seen stories about some regular ‘ole citizens trying to survive through the apocalypse. By some dumb luck, being in the right group, or being smart and having the abilities to survive, they always find a way to live till the next day. But what about the musicians out there? In this particular story, we follow a band as they try to survive a sudden apocalypse. But hey, just because a zombie apocalypse is…

Is this game a masterpiece? Probably not, but it is a fun rythm game combined with a roadtrip to hell during the zombie apocalypse. Your Heavy Metal band of five, protected from becoming zombies by the power of Heavy Metal, travels through the USA and meets crazy survivors, all the way chased by hordes of zombies (and other enemies). positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good rhythm game, especially for metalheads. I really liked how many songs this game has to offer across all its 4 modes, though 2 of them are the same basically (arcade and story). As I mentioned, this game does have story but I skipped 99% of it and from the little I read it's nothing to crave for. What struck me is the overall difficulty, it has to be one of the hardest rhythm games I ever played. However, there are a few ways in the settings how to make the game feel like a walk in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been rocking the beta of this game before the early access and it's def a must have for any metal or rythm lover. Looking forward to where it goes from here.

I don’t believe this review applies to veterans of rhythm games. UPDATE 2: Added extra notes mainly for new players (and the devs if they even read this stuff). TLDR: If you’re new to rhythm games and are scared that this game will be way too hard for you, don’t be. The game gives you all the tools you need to get better…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ngl i should've read more into the reviews, there's a big issue with this game and that's the fact that you have to follow the rhythm as well as keep track of where your shots are aimed at, both of which are in two different areas on the screen. i can't split my eyes for that, didn't expect gameplay to be that way. it definitely has good style though and an excellent soundtrack. extra credit the devs for editing the 'user agreement' upon first download to just say 'You can't stop the metal…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33025671-Missi-the-Achievement-Huntress/] Please see my curator page for more games that are well worth your time I'd like to start this review off with a small yet somewhat important warning: If you're a macOS user, the achievements for this game will not unlock on Steam. The developers have said on the Steam forums that they don't have plans to fix that on their roadmap. I do hope this will change because it is a bit weird that it has no problems…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Kick Heroes is an overly repetitive title that seems like it could work, but it fails. The game tries to mask these issues with a surplus of intricate details, yet this doesn't really work. Double Kick Heroes follows a metal band that just finished a secluded six month training session only to be introduced to a zombie-infested world. Following the flow of chaos, they transformed their Cadillac into a ‘Gundillac’ and proceed to mow down zombies with headbanging tunes attached to guns on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool Guitar Hero like game but INSANELY difficult, even on "medium" difficulty, the game doesn't seem to be for casual players or friendly to people who can't "split" their hand movement. Music is nice and so is the art style, there's a lot of pop culture references in this, from video games to movies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has rhythm and zombies and metal. While I suck at rhythm games, this one isn't impossible. I like the soundtrack well enough and the nods to real world metal stars is a nice touch. Definitely worth a look if you are into metal AND rhythm games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_4PadW_0-I
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Killing zombies to the rhythm! Obliterate horde by pumping bullets along with heavy metal music. My knees are bumping and controller is devastating whole room like a laser cannon. I think it's best played in small doses.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rhythm game about killing zombies in the apocalypse with the power of metal! It has a fun story and the dialogue is even part of the background music which is pretty awesome. METAL!!!!! https://youtu.be/DvGhPJhZD4Q
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The End of the World Never Sounded So Metal! This rhythm based shoot em up is a unique blend of side-scrolling action and rhythm mechanics, tied together by a glorious tribute to heavy metal culture. It’s loud, proud, and surprisingly complex depending on the difficulty you play on. At its core, Double Kick Heroes is a rhythm game, but it layers in elements from the shoot em up genre in a way that feels both novel and occasionally overwhelming. You control a band fleeing the apocalypse in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 what this game really needs is in game purchasable upgrades and a currency system played a decent bit of story and it feels like im listening to the same songs over and over its got steam workshop and 0 items are in it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Double Kick Heroes looks okay and is kind of fun, but it got boring and repetitive real quick. Obviously some people enjoy it but it's not my kind of game. Not recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever played Guitar Hero? While that game sold millions, I am not sure this one will get that kinda of following! Double Kick Heroes is fun and follows the same same pattern throughout and is very linear in its game play. The game has fun 8bit styled graphics and uses the story as its selling point. I know what you are thinking, this game should use the music as it selling point, well not so as the budgets between Guitar Hero and this one are far apart. While this seems like a downer,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big rhythm game enjoyer liking to see spins on the genre, this is an unfortunate letdown. having tried the game on the hardest difficulty, it quickly started to show some glaring issues with the game that made the it not as enjoyable as it could be. to make it short, you run away from zombies, animals, and other stuff using the band's car and the power of metal to kill them off, said car being very fragile and can only take 3 hits before the song results in a fail. the charts have 3…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably my favorite Rhythm game. In the settings you can set the steering of the car to automatic (so you don't have to control the car while fighting) btw
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full preview on [url= http://www.hyperlightup.com/double-kick-heroes-preview/]Hyper Light Up "Double Kick Heroes is already totally enjoyable in its Early Access stage. The story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, there are many songs to master that will keep you playing for hours and if you are into metal music, you will love the songs. The unexpected result of the main game mechanic that trains you into rhythmical patterns is a huge plus and in general Double Kick Heroes is a great addition to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it just boring story, characters, setting - lame music is mediocre, not bad not awesome
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I adore this game. The OST is amazing and the characters are well written. The world and overall theming are funny, absurdist, and over the top in all the right ways. But, most importantly the game has the perfect balance of allowing you to play on a pretty easy mode, all the way to hard. And I mean HARD. You aren't playing one instrument, you are playing all of them, and driving. WILD. Absolutely pick this up. Easiest $20 I've ever spent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning! This game is extremely hard especially in higher difficulty. I'm currently playing on "Metal" difficulty. I had to make my own custom button mapping just so I can get through the stages. Plus, you need to develop some muscle memory and get familiar with the songs. With all that said. This game is highly addictive. It has good tracks and playing them is very satisfying. A must buy for die hard rhythm game fans, especially if you enjoy metal!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am really sorry but i believe in the current state the game is broken. If i play on Rock difficulty i cannot see the enemies on the left of the screen - i have to let them come by downgrading my weapons and.. waiting.. If i play on Hard Rock difficulty then the notes come so fast that the game engine (whatever 60 fps engine may be) cannot render enough and clear frames (on my 2080ti) so i can spot and click on the note. It is really a mess. The music is okay, the pixel art is very decent but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an insane variety of music. However, Double Kick Heroes is also one of the most challenging rhythm games I've ever played. The speed is tremendous which makes sense for the genres of music. The most important thing you need to know about Double Kick Heroes is the crazy mash-up of mechanics. The main track is the kick drum and it's the only one that matters. If you miss too many notes then it's game over. The enemies will catch up to the car and you'll lose a life. You must alternate the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hype for this game is not sustained... The price is great but I would rahter play other more polished and addictive rythm games. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it doesen't feel good to play (perhaps weak or bad feedback when hitting notes) Story mode is a drag with overused rock references, feels like a 2005's game in a bad way... Passion without direction. Gameplay Sprites are good looking, story / dialog portraits look amateur, also dialog font is garbage. Play only if you got…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun rhythm game where you play drums to fight off the zombocalypse it's interesting in how it supports many controllers to play with ( got an old rock band drum kit/ it works! ) there's some clever metal puns and gags, tons of references - and just overall good rock and roll shenanigans. ( note my playtime says 30 minutes, when I was playing it before it even had a steam release, I did complete the entirety of early access, and I had fun - while the boss fights proved to be a bit of a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Intro There have been so many rhythm games over the years varying in overall idea: dancing to music in time, playing plastic guitars in time, pressing keyboard buttons in time, and even racing to music in time. Double Kick Heroes may not seem any different from these other games but it is in one small and simple detail: you aren't just keeping in time. Being solely based off of the drum beats and patterns, the game focuses on the overall groove of each song rather than just watching the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks great and has great music but it let me down that a lot of the time the rythm for pressing keys is sometimes wrong or seems offbeat also i feel like the shooting up and down should be seperated and mapped specifically for the level so that if you hit all of the beats you will succeed the level and that way you dont have the freedom of choosing whether to shoot up or down for the same sound queue as it can get very confusing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There aren't a lot of (non-weeb) rhythm games for PC, but so far this one is one of the best I've played this year. I would love to see Spotify support.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No local co-op , no thank you.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I already played Double Kick Heroes in an early version at gamescom 2017 and fell in love with the game itself, the beautiful pixel graphics and of course the amazing soundtrack! Now I returned to the early access version, connected my PS4 Rock Band guitar and just couldn't stop smiling like crazy while fighting a zombie shark boss in combination with some unique and epic metal music. The power of METAL is strong with this one! \m/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its OK, I guess, about 6/10? Since I don't know the tracks, I spend 99% of it looking at the 'tabs', and even on Metal difficulty some of them are brutal to go through. I couldn't get the first boss down in time with 99.50% hit accuracy on previous stages - so I had to lower the difficulty. Not that what's on top of the screen matters much anyway - its basically a cool looking animation, and while you have to choose which cannon to fire by choosing which kick drum to hit, you can basically…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hoo boy, where do I start... Okay, so, this literally has to be one of the best rhythm games I've ever played, or one of the most fun ones at any rate. It starts off as one of your typical rhythm games, hitting a note at the right time to score points, but with a twist; your bass-pedal notes actually fire off bullets at zombies chasing you down a road, from two different spots. The better you play, the higher your multiplier will go, and the stronger your bullets will become (i.e. Start off…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried and bought the game at Stunfest a few days ago. It's a great game, I definely recommend it ! The songs are really nice and the graphics are pleasant too. I'm not very familiar rythm games so I had a hard time on some levels (T-Rex for example) but I still managed to beat the game in Metal difficulty. There are currently no level with 3 tracks in that difficulty and you figure out quickly that the second track is optional (the main combo does not reset when you miss the cymbals) so I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Real adrenaline pumper for those rhythm speed junkies, it's super fun. Rock on!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of rhythm games I've been looking forward to this one since I saw the game jam version. This version (Early Access at this time) truly demonstrates the depth of the concept though. It might have fewer buttons than Rock Band, but the key decision to give you the choice of which drum to beat is what elevates the game to that rare level of being simple to pick up but extremely difficult to master. The combo system, the weapon upgrades, it all combines to make you want to get better and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS FUN! I was waiting for them to release it... I even got mad at HeadBang Club (the studio behing the game). But it was worth the wait. Even though the game is on EA - which means it is unfinished - the game is amazing. The game looks good and SOUNDS AWESOME. Each sound track is increadible. I can see myself listening to the game OST while I work (or at the gym). The game is also challenging. It gets harder and harder, and keep pushning you to the limit. Eye-hand cordination is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot heap enough praise onto this game. Played it for the first time today on stream, and finished on Hard Rock mode up to Europe, and if I were to take issue with anything it's that I doubt there's ever going to be enough to satisfy my craving for content in this tremendous title. Yes, I received this from the devloper, but I am absolutely not one to praise a product for any reason other than me loving it. The music rocks. The writing is funny and engaging, the characters are great,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME KICKS ASS!! > The soundtrack is awesome. > The pixel art and the graphics are tight. Those 2 points alone make the game epic to play. Gameplay wise, the difficulty can be ramped up, so rhythm game fans will have more than enough on their plate ! ( I must say the steering / aiming part is a bit too hard to master for my taste though). But beginners are welcome as well because there are many difficulty levels. There is a Story mode, which is pretty original for a rhytm game, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got Double Kick Heroes at PAX East, and it's one of the best rhythm games I've ever played. The game in it's current Early Access form already is a fairly finished product (at least in the sense that there is no sudden and unexpected stop in gameplay where you can no longer progress). As a fan of both metal and rhythm games, I can very happily say that Elmobo's music is pretty kickass. It spans from several genres such as your classics such as heavy metal (classic Iron Maiden influence),…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like games with zombies, metal music and guns? And also plot? Try Double Kick Heroes! A unique intersect between shmups and rhythm games, I had the chance to try the game out and pick up a key at PAX East 2018. Let me say first that as someone who is passible at shmups and awful at music games, I appreciate that DKH has a range of difficulty options. And also fun artwork and character dialogue. I already prefer it to games like Guitar Hero for that reason alone. The music's pretty good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly one of my favourite rhythm games I have played. Only playing on metal difficulty (hard) and it lives up to its title considering the main guns are only two buttons trying to focus on where to shoot, getting my grenades oh and dodging an undead dinosaur that shoots fricking laser beams out of its fricking head the game is both enjoyable and challenging. This game has it all, hilarious easter eggs such as metalchete, quotes from tenacious D, KKK zombies, katy perry lyrics what more can…
