What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised for ambition but criticized for bugs and abandoned development.
Players praise the game's blend of grand strategy and RTS, calling it a mix of Total War and Crusader Kings. Some find the combat satisfying and the world map well done. [3][7][12][17]
However, many criticize the game for poor optimization, clunky controls, and a lack of depth. Some allege the developers abandon projects and release similar games repeatedly, while others note bugs and a steep learning curve. [5][13][16][20][24][25][27][28][36]

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Involved with gaming in one form or another for over 40-years (yes I am that old)...and in my opinion this game is poorly made in regards to the customer/player initial introduction. If you are willing to spend HOURS and HOURS trying to figure out how things work, this software will fit you. If you want to start up this software and expect a basic tutorial that explains how the mechanics work, and explains the functions of the units in the game -- you'll want to look else-where and not waste…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont buy anything from this company, they just copy and paste the same games with a few tweaks and a lot of promises and they have NEVER completed a game before wanting to sell you the next one, this type of company makes you understand the lay offs on the tech industry and so many going out of bussiness.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am extremely torn about this game, for a few reasons. It's mentioned that the game itself is essentially an indie game designed by just a few guys hacking at something. I love that. Absolutely love it. If I had to guess, I would suppose that our design core was a trio of friends who met in uni in a Medieval History program and they liked sharing their thoughts on their favorite Medieval era games and eventually realized they could formulate their own in their head. And that that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DEVELOPERS PLEASE READ THIS!!! Review: The game is a real time strategy game, combining Stronghold Crusader game-play with Medieval Total War world map conquest, but in real time instead of turn based. It also adds the concept of you planning your base building resources, by bringing them with you from the world map, which works pretty well. The Good: -Combat is satisfying, just like Stronghold Crusader without the ability to build wherever you want.(thus simplified=faster base building)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No castle building; Just scripted battles in an overly busy screen. Nothing here for players who appreciate base building.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game but it just isn't good. The tutorial is probably the best part. Its a pretty decent overview of game mechanics. The graphics are pretty bad. The game play is repetitive. The combat and lack of saved files kill this game. In the tutorial it appears balanced but on the campaign its different. combat overall is pretty slow. Archers appear to do no damage. At the start of my campaigns, two different ones, I have lost an equal battle by a significant amount. In the one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My review may change, but as of right now I don't see any substance to the game. It's for for about 10 hours. Then it becomes a series of marching, auto resolve, heal repeat. Then Build and build and build. No missions no real diplomacy. Just an army marching across a map to yet another auto-resolved village battle. The idea is nice though, and if it had elements of rpg since you're supposed to be a lord, like marriage and children etc maybe it would be a higher rating. 4.2/10 **I left mine…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never leave reviews however I believe this game deserves my attention. The devs seem to have given up or do not care about this game at all. Where do I even start?? The campaign map is extremely cluttered and almost impossible to navigate. The game's camera is annoyingly slow and allows for minimal movement. The game seems to randomly generate colors for players during battles. ( They don't even match the historical colors of the kingdom you play). The graphics are atrocious. The animations…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lazy developers seemed to have abandoned this project and moved onto new projects. Maybe give these guys a wide birth.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT TRUST THIS DEV! They release the same game with a different title every six months and then just abandon the old one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get this game. Get Total War: Medieval instead. I bought this years ago when when it came out. I played for a few hours, though "Yeesh, this needs some work." I decided to leave the game alone and wait for the developers to polish the game. After rediscovering the game years later, i can say that nothing has been fixed. The game chugs a long at such a low frame rate, even at the lowest setting. And it just lags all the time. The AI is dumb AF and the best strat is just having a bunch…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a bit on the fence about refunding this one, even. I chose not to refund it because if I get bored enough, its something mindless enough to do while listening to an audiobook or podcast. The idea behind it is cool, with many factions and their own low budget spin on games like Total War and Europa Universalis. I'll also note that there could be plenty I've yet to see in the game. But be warned, the marketing here is pretty much false advertising. There aren't sprawling cities that you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UPDATE : It seems most issues I talked about in my review were adressed in a recent patch. I will be testing the new version of this game soon and updating my review again. I also removed my commentary about the devs, because it sounded like a personnal attack and no one should have to endure that. Extremely disapointed. I look around for games where reviews says the devs listen to the community. It was the case with this one, many reviews mentions devs listening to player's complait.. But…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Idea for the game is good. I just dont find it challenging enough. I come from playing total war and the city management is just none existent. You just spam markets and hospitals and youre all good. If the game went deeper into management it would be amazing. Its just missing that spark
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a decent little game. It's a combination of grand strategy and RTS. All the base building and combat is done in an RTS style, but rather than a linear campaign, you move around on an open map, and your units stay with you between battles. You can build an army before you get into a fight, or you can build up your army on the battlefield, and you get to keep them once the fight is done. It's an interesting take on the RTS genre that I don't think I've seen before and it's quite creative.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting idea with some unique mechanics overshadowed by poor quality. Good Things: -Can build, train, harvest resources in battles. This is a really nice feature that replicates the length of siege battles. -Can upgrade structures and recruit unites either with silver in the Map view or with harvested resources in the battle view. Gives a trade off for micro in city building and saving silver or macro and saving time. Bad Things: -UI. It is bad. A UI need to be legible and needs to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The state of the game as it is now, is not worth it. However, the devs are continuously improving this game and implementing new quality of life features. If you're an enjoyer of the Total War series or games of that nature then this is a good game to buy. I would recommend that if you have the funds to throw at this game then do it. Otherwise, if you're limited in funds and have to choose between this and another game, go for the other game. Pros: -Tons of potential -A fun combat system…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My previous review on Dec 19, 2021 was a negative review due to me concluding that the game has been abandoned due to no update for half a year and a defunct @KingdomWars2 twitter handle. I am now changing my recommendation to positive due to the positive response to criticism as well as the major update on Dec 22, 2021. OLD REVIEW It used to have promise until they stopped listening to the community and stopped updating it for half a year as of Dec 19, 2021.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 Tutorial is bugged all over the place and i wasnt able to finish. jumped right into the game, also bugged Start up the game 80% of players have this achvment Field Commander Win a Field battle in Campaign Mode 17% of players have this that drop off is INSANE and its one of the most basic first things you do!!!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Medieval Kingdom Wars holds potential for a small 3-man indie team, but struggles with fluidity and core mechanics. Despite its positive reviews, the game feels hindered by several issues, making it nearly unplayable. At $19.99, it’s difficult to justify the purchase. Overall, a disappointing experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really shoddy, without a whole lot of thought seemingly put into it. Stone mines in the town square. Can't control your army during sieges unless you transferred the whole thing to the town beforehand. Absolutely atrocious, aggressively stupid AI: I lost a town because the AI took over my army and (instead of defending the castle when the victory condition was to last 13 minutes) went f*cking off to blob-attack enemy troops on the other side of the map. Enemy armies a fraction of the size…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very broken. The tutorial would be considered important, one would think anyways. From the get go in game functions do not work making the game not playable. This game may be worth it if it were free, however not even on the 8 dollar sale is it worth the money. The issues brought to the developer are still issues and very easy ones to implement as well, giving us insight into the team that is working on the game. This is a hard pass, I would normally let them have the 8 bucks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of potential, but buggy and unreliable. Enemies tend to follow the same patterns every time, building plots will often vanish, artillery will stick out of the building at odd angles, character animation is poor, troops often don't seem to know what to do, etc..... I loved it until after a few hours and the drawbacks got me to turn it off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still learning the game and its systems, but frankly what they pack in this small game is rather impressive. From what I've read this isn't even close to the same game that launched in 2019 in a very good way. The game is still in active development via patches and the devs seem to genuinely car. Give it a purchase and a shot. Highly impressed with the mix of civ/age of empires/total war in this one while keeping its own identity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Game, only 1 negative i find about this game is that when you loose a battle the AI will sometimes raze a city leaving it unusable the whole game can you plz find a way to make it where you can rebuild it somehow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy (x) Poorly Optimized (x) Horrible AI (x) Sloppy Imprecise Controls (x) Ever play an RTS where if feels like you're herding cats? Congrats, this is the game for you~

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want this to be as constructive as possible, because I liked the premise, and this is a game I keep coming back to. But it had been in early access for years and little to no remarkable progress had been made in the right direction. For instance, the VA work and the shaekspearean lines are all over the place and really out of touch. But it's more technical then that. - Armies clash at each other and freeze in place. - There is barely any visible animation of combat. - Pausing glitches into…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think it has a lot of potential but years in the developers can´t manage to make it work. I think it is dead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This developer seems to re-release this game every year but under a different name, very underhanded business model.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolute masterpiece of a game. A mix of Total War and CK2, two of my most favourite games. This game added on what CK2 was missing, actual strategic combat. I may have little time into the game but I can assure you, if you enjoy CK2 and Total War this game is surely for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Medieval Kingdom Wars brings to you a solid RTS game with historical lore which you'll find very pleasant to play. Try and fight through your ranks until you become the King of the Realm. It took a few minutes to master it using the tutorial, but after that you will find the game easy to master while having fun. As a huge fan of the Age of Empires franchise - this game gave me chills. It delivers all the basic mechanics, including a few features to improve its genre. Start building your city,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not a bad game, is just bland, it doesn't bring anything unique to the genre that hasn't already been done 100 times, with higher quality, by other games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very poor game in content and usability. Gets boring real soon.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you enjoy pathing issues, disappearing buildings, and broken resource management systems? Thats what you have to look forward to in this game. What they tried to do with this game is great, but there are so many bugs and UI issues, its near unplayable. Pass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the game, especially the ability to micromanage in battles. The developers are working hard to make it as realistic to the era it represents as possible, and that is a positive thing. I would change little things here and there but nothing that affects the game in a substantial manner.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Medieval Kingdom Wars It looks incredible on paper: Grand Strategy (think CK II mixed with Total War) on the campaign map and traditional RTS (Age of Empires) when initiating battles sounds absolutely incredible. I love Strategy games. In a way it does work, but it gets bogged down with clunky controls, lack of visual unit distinctions and no easy way to control larger groups of units. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cheap copy of a Total War game. The perdormance is poor, the visuals are poor, the mechanics are shallow, bugs, unintuitive controlls, there just couple maps that are constantly repeated. This may be good as student project, not as something you sell to people. There are no reasons to recommend this game on its own, let alone over any of the older TW games, just get them instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun Game! I'm enjoying the campaign - particularly the battles. The world map is very well done and reminiscent of maps of old. For a 2 person studio, your work is impressive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the purchasers It is a good concept for a game. I like the idea of this one a lot. Its kinda a mix between "Crusader Kings", "Mount and Blade" and "Total War" in a few ways. - I like how many different building choices you have allowing you to specialize towns - I like how important trade is, and making the right friends impacts trade - Your research ability results from a mix of your kingdom and who you made friends with which is accurate - I like the emphasis on making friends and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played 8 hours and I love the pace of the city management mixed with campaign/battles. I like that your citizens get upset if you spend too much time micromanaging them. It keeps you jumping between cities and planning invasions. Army organization needs a sorting feature. (You have to micro manage the army sorting) Love that it's a 3 man team. Great job gents! 5/5 for price and nostalgia from childhood medieval games

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrific grand strategy with very deep tactical and strategic options furnished on an optimised an utterly beautiful game engine is not something I can say about this game. Shallow at its best with poor graphics, horrendous UI, poor army placement, pathfinding bugs and a colour scheme that would make even Ray Charles cry. And all these issues were encountered by me in the first (and last) hour of gameplay. [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/7279488-One-Grumpy-Russian/]One Grumpy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game on bundle, and this was the second game I've played of the series. Just minor improvements from the previous entry (Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition). There are bigger maps and a stronger focus on global strategy sound great on paper, but after a while it becomes clear you’re mostly playing the same game again. Fun at first, then repetition slowly creeps in like winter in a medieval village. I can only recommended for fans of the genre, if bought on sale. I'll give it a 6/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concepts around this game is really amazing, to combine both RTS and real time grand strategy is always good, but to add RTS and build up your towns and cities and make them formidable and prosperous is really great. So the creators get a A+ for concepts. However, the execution though interesting and fun has issues and restraints on it. I experienced crashes to desktop mainly going from town, city, and battle to map... not always but it happens. The actions on map make difficult to fully…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Medieval Kingdom Wars, an amazing grand strategy medieval game, well ahead of its time and to this day 7 years later the developers still pour love into this wonderful passion project. Pros: One of the most in depth military wise grand strategy games I've ever played, from the unit types to research and types of battle and how dense and down the wire they get, it doesn't disappoint. Soundtrack, it has a nice soundtrack that can go very well with certain situations in battles. Graphics, as of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I walked into this game with expectations having 1000+ hours plus in games in the Total War series, and while there are similarities, it is very much its own game, and a good one. In the first 24 hours I had 3 crashes when transitioning between campaign map and battle map or back, but I lost no progress in my game. Managing the game economy is interesting, but once you understand how it works and invest in it, money stops becoming an issue when you can sell trade/research goods by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Medieval Kingdom Wars is an exceptional real-time strategy game that transports players to the Middle Ages, where they must build and manage their kingdom amidst a turbulent world of politics, trade, and warfare. The game offers an immersive experience with stunning visuals, a deep and complex gameplay mechanics, and an engaging storyline that keeps players hooked from start to finish. One of the things that makes Medieval Kingdom Wars stand out is its attention to detail. Players must manage…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fantastic game despite a lot of minor bugs. I am confident that the budget is nothing like what Ubisoft or Rockstar games might put into a game and nonetheless, we have an awesome game. I would highly recommend this game if you like strategy games as it combines some of the best things of games like Civilization, Total war, Stronghold and more. I am looking forward to future releases, games by these developers :) Thank you and sorry I didn't find it earlier!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the medieval theme in this one. At its core its a resource management game with territory control cities and armies. The sound is great, I really like the audio aspect. The map large and there is many NPC kingdoms to interact with. The helper that guides you along till you get the hang of the game concept is welcome. I recommend this to anyone that likes real world, real history kind of strategy games. It has a lot of historical depth. I also like that I see the developer is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big fan of Knights of Honor and Medieval Kingdom Wars is quite similar. You have a real time strategy world map and real time fights. The graphics might be outdated, but in some situations the game looks quite nice like in city sieges. The game overall is a lot of fun and really puts you into “oh just one more city and I take a break – and then not stop”-mood. The tutorial is decent and teaches you everything you need for your first grand campaign hours. The biggest strength of the game are the…
