Although some patches were released three years ago to fix some performance issues, the game is still riddled with bugs and instability. For example, one boss is infamously difficult in this port because of a bug that prevents you from entering caves. Did nobody playtest this before selling it?! The crashes are the worst, though. The game could crash at practically any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If this was on the Nintendo Wii, yes... I would recommend this game. But on Steam? Definitely not. Please, do not waste your money. When they ported this game to Steam a lottt of bugs came with it... and the developers have given up on it after a few patches. To name a few issues: The game will crash after bosses resulting in a loss of progress. The game will have audio issues, where you need to open and close the game continuously until it eventually works. The game is barely controller…

A builder/Pikman like game co-developed by the same team as Hotal Dusk: Room 25 and is a storybook tale of one kids rise to tyranthood where he declares wars on other kingdoms to kidnap princesses or something.

I would love to play this game all the way through again. I could not get enough of it on the Wii, but the port is just so ridiculously difficult to play for any real amount of time. It make me so sad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The other negative reviews are not exaggerating. This is a really bad port! I had this game on Wii. When it was first announced that it was coming to Steam, I was ecstatic, but then it launched and it was terrible. They hired a well-known modder to fix some of the issues (And bless him, he tried), but this port is practically unplayable. I got the urge to play this game again recently, but 2 of the 3 times I launched the game, it had no audio. The one time it did have audio, the music played…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, let's start with the #1 slot, shall we? Little King's Story is far and away my favorite game of all time. I've replayed it SO many times. Matter of fact, when I hit 1k, this is how I'm planning to celebrate.
unlabelledView post →An absolute broken mess of a gem of a game. I have put up with so much trying to make this game work from broken mechanics to constant crashing to weird corruption of save files. Where to begin. 70% of the time you start the game your save file will not load and will crash the game on loading. To remedy this you need to keep three plus save files of the same game constantly in circulation to make sure you can go back and rest in a bed and try to overwrite your save and hope to god the save…

This week is filled with Indies (NanoApostle & Cally's Caves 4), Rogue-likes (Revita & Dead Estate), and a cute weird game I loved in my late teens (Little King's Story). I really can't play "normal" games. I love my weird shenanigans.
unlabelledView post →Yeah don't buy this port. The game itself is wonderful and I haven't found another quite like it, but the experience of playing it on steam has been a nightmare. Constant crashing, bugs, and endless frustration just trying to get the game to run. So tedious to fight a boss and have the game crash over and over. Or have the audio cut out. Or the map stop working. Or your save files not load. Or.. If you want to experience this game, emulate or play the physical release. Avoid this port at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I cannot recommend this particular port of Little King's Story, despite the efforts put in previously to bring it up to a workable state. The game itself is super charming and I would love to continue playing, but I have been hit by the recurring 'game fails to load save' glitch wherein you are hit with a black screen upon hitting 'Continue' at the main menu. The negative review does not reflect the game itself, just this particular port of it, as a warning to other potential…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite possibly the worst port I have ever played of a game. In order to even run the game without it crashing to desktop you have to disable all in-game cutscenes (disable intro video in the start-up menu), so you have to go to youtube to actually see what the heck is happening in the storyline. However, the game will still crash randomly and since this game has no autosave feature, get ready to replay parts again. And then at a certain point in the story, the game will just freeze whenever you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great game on other consoles, but the PC version is garbage. It is unplayable, crashes and full of bugs. DO NOT buy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Wii games ever. And one of my all-time favorites. In Little King's Story, you play a little king (no sh*t) trying to expand his kingdom. This means lots of exploration, conquest, fighting (especially against other kings), and sending disciples to crash into walls (yes). There are tons of varied quests, you gradually expand your territory and build buildings, search for treasures to sell, attack all sorts of enemies, rescue princesses, and assemble teams of soldiers, farmers,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No a good port. At all. On every front, it's a straight downgrade. The Wii version had a lot, I mean a LOT of bloom that is completely absent here. There's also the missing distant effects, such as fog and the "cloud haze" present in later areas. The UI also received little to no care, disregarding the original art style and presentation. Other than that, the game is buggy, incomplete, and severely lacks polish: objects floating in the world, translation errors, incorrect 60 (and 30!)…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful and broken port of an excellent underrated game i bought it to support the devs, but play this on dolphin for a much better experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is literally broken even WITH Durante's "fix". In 30 FPS mode the game is actually slowed down and in 60 FPS mode the game is sped up, making many attacks IMPOSSIBLE to dodge. Video: https://webmshare.com/play/Bejg4 Also sundry smaller but still annoying bugs like the compass not working, the lower-third overlay getting stuck all the time, drops sometimes needing 10+ seconds to appear, etc. Play the original or emulate it if you can do it legally.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This port isn't good which is a real shame since the game itself is a hidden gem, it's as simple as that. Just play the Wii version.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where to begin with this mess of a port.. I completed this game back at the tail end of 2022 and its been on my mind to write a review of this for a while. Why would I waste my time doing that on a game no one will likely have heard of, let alone think of buying? Well dear reader, I'm doing this in hopes I can convince one or two folks to give it a whirl. Little King's Story, despite its many flaws, is close to being a masterpiece. In most respects, it is. I don't use that word lightly,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Game has a very bad tendency to either die on its own or corrupt your saves for no reason
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the original Wii game, but this port is terrible. It randomly crashes and softlocks constantly, and most of the time I can't even select a file without the game freezing on a black screen. I've tried lowering all of the settings to the very minimum, as someone suggested, but the game just won't work. A 60 fps option exists in this port, but some enemies' animations are tied to the lower frame rate of the original game, which makes them zoom around and become unavoidable, instantly…

This is basically my childhood game and I am so glad that they have it now on Steam. I read the previous reviews saying it had lots of bugs and issues. Now I am playing at 2024, although I also had some issues but they were so minor it did not bother me much. I love how I am able to play this game now and understand the overall story. I think it's still worth the pay. They'll use it anyway to…

Returning to it, I was secretly worried that it might not mean as much to me the second time round... well, it still hits so hard for me 🥹🩷 I love the themes and symbolism so much. Best game ever!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game, terrible port. Overall experience remained good because the game itself is very fun (even in 2023 it made me hella hooked right from the start), still it sucks to be anxious on important moments feeling a hurry to save ASAP because there's a chance the game will immediately close itself any second. Since I enjoyed the game, I can barely accept putting effort into minimizing the game problems by lowering graphics, relaunching the game once in a while, etc. Usually I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Used to love this game on the Wii. Sad to say that the PC port is still a mess not worth playing. Loads not loading without having to pray and restart several times. Audio randomly popping and crackling. Controls are bad but manageable. Overall not worth your money, even if it is on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i'll be honest here, ive adored this series since i was a kid so when i realized they ported it to PC i jumped in joy and bought it for about 5 dollars on sale, i still love the game as its charming and honestly fun to play. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really want to leave a favourable review--I've played this game on the wii, and it is an excellent game! But The controls. Edit: They are confusing to start, and while it does get a bit easier to play as you go on, it's still clunky and uncomfortable to use, especially since when you use the wasd keys or the directional keys changes for some reason when choosing some things but not others. I love the graphics, love the story--I very much enjoyed it on the wii, and would adore it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While a fun game this is a bad port, although it has improved. When I originally tried it there was no dualshock 4 support and I have never owned a 360 or one so I don't have any xbox controllers and playing this game with a keyboard and mouse, with you only having eight directions for walking sounded pretty awful as the way you are facing is a key part of the game, so I never played it. A couple of years later (I.E. today) I read somewhere that they actually added dualshock 4 support. "Yes,…

This game means so much to me and I played it at what felt like the perfect point I could've in my life. It'll surprise you a lot, it looks goofy but then somehow conveys a sense of dread in an extremely unique way, it really caught me off guard how anxious the plot made me, and for the most part, delivered on the theories I was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Utterly broken garbage, avoid at all cost. Has 2 visual modes: 30 fps where game plays like a slideshow and 60 fps where it's turbo mode. With 60 fps that's literally game at twice the speed making bosses and smaller enemies near impossible to beat. So you are forced to either play on 30 fps or use "quick switch" between modes which often breaks some stuff. Controls are atrocious with controller and game is supposed to be made in favour of controllers. Aiming is almost non-existent,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, sh*t port. You cannot beat some bosses on 60fps like first mushroom boss. The 30/60 fps options really affect how fast you can take down some enemies and other mechanics like building and destroying obstacles. Don't forget the no sound bug and constant crashes. Still a great game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To start off: I absolutely love this game. The Wii version was a hidden gem, and I would genuinely encourage anyone to try it out. This port, however, plays like a badly-made fan emulation. The glitches are everpresent and severe, even on a high-end system. They range from the annoying, such as joystick drift and a nonfunctional minimap, to the entirely gamebreaking. For example, bosses are unnaturally difficult due to invisible projectiles and erratic controls. At the end of one particularly…
