Lethe – Episode One is a 2016 first-person survival horror video game created by Greek indie developer Koukou Studios and published by Faber Interactive. It was released on 1 August 2016. Episode One is the first game of the Lethe series of planned video games that take place in the same universe but as of March 2018, no other episodes were published, which is why Episode One is also referred to as Lethe. 60 of 190 · most liked firstAlthough the title says Episode One there are actually no further episodes which is unfortunate as I thoroughly enjoyed Lethe. Koukou Studios is a Greek developer company and whilst their website does make mention of a sequel titled Lethe 2 Origins there is no additional information on the title. The story revolves around a man who lost his father but gained new information on his own origin. He sets out to find answers to his questions but ends up ashore in a small (seemingly uninhabited)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an awesome game, didnt expect much but had a blast. It isnt too long, with some exploring you can finish it in 4 hours. Had a few hair raising jump scares, where I really gor scared, cause atmosphere is spot on. As far as gameplay goes this is polished game, using telekinesis felt the same as in Bioshock games for instance. Puzzles are short and sweet, they wount frustrate you and you will have to use some of the brain's activity. Graphics is also top notch, fits the style og a game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was okay, I guess? Similar to Amnesia it spent not enough time on the actual horror. Amnesia was better tho. It basically was a friggin platformer, honestly, as half the time you're stacking boxes. Which'd be fine except it hardly ever works because their physics engine is hideously borked and ugh. Jump on a box and oh sorry it flew 30 feet into the air and exploded. Meanwhile it CONSTANTLY has puzzles where the answer is a mechanic that is then _never used again_. At one point you have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe is a blatant imitation of Amnesia the Dark Descent but they manage to do a pretty impressive job considering the challenge. It almost feels like an unofficial sequel, not as intense, but pretty close. The 'Monster Presence' music is pretty good, the gameplay is fluid and the levels seem well designed. Sneaking past the creatures can be pretty intense.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have won that game on steamgifts.com now as for the review: Pros: + Nice graphics and atmospehre + Smooth controls and preformance + Music was good and the sounds are accurate (footsteps) + Most saving point are manual (so the game doesn't save when you're about to die or meeting an enemy unlike other poorly desigined horror games) Cons: - I barely have any idea what the story is about since there is no voice acting in this game and all the info you get is through reading even though i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After reading some of the comparison's of this game to Amnesia:Dark Descent I have to say that comparing the former to the latter is lunacy.I think that this game resembles a LOT of other stories, level designs, and music.AND? The point of ANY game is whether you had fun with it or not.If you didn't then just say it wasn't fun for you and quit attacking dev's that actually CARE about their customers and their work. IMHO this offering has a unique and well delivered story and the uncertain…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super under the radar for most people I come across. Great game and atmosphere. I found myself reading every little note I found and taking a ton of screenshots just to capture moments in the game. Very well made and some interesting things happen in the story that make you just say, "wait... what?" especially if you take the time to read notes and learn about small tidbits of story wherever possible. Some parts are challenging but who wants a game that's too easy! Looking forward to future…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An underrated horror gem which due to lack of marketing may not be recognized by many survival horror fans out there. You play as a man who descends into the depths of a dark abandoned mine to find the truth about his past. The plot takes some inspiration from Frictional Games's Penumbra series for storytelling and the Amnesia series for its settings and atmosphere, and both of them are done in a good way. The environment and settings are spooky and foreboding with excellent use of sounds and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the POWER! A Horror-WalkSim with a dark environment, good Sound & Graphics (the Story needs a bit time, at the end all make sense) Some Jumpscares for the Horrorfraction, Stealthy & Running away from the few "enemies"... sometimes they are really stupid :D The puzzles are not so hard, a bit brain needed. With round 9 hours (if you try to grab all notes... ) a good amount of playtime for the first episode. Waiting for the second.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spooky game with awesome graphics. Liked the concept of telekinesis and the gameplay was very immersive. Can't wait for the sequel. I recommand.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Scary game, very good eery atmosphere,s**t myself a couple of times.Highly recommended.8hrs and think i am near the end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, linear Horrorgame with a good background story and puzzles. Waiting for the next episode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is comparable to Amnesia Dark Descent. Storyline is told through notes and some some text from narrator. Overall I'd say the story is 6/10 because it got pretty loose at the end. Gameplay is a 7/10 for horror game wise, motion is smooth though I found myself getting caught on some things while running. Has an added mechanic at a certain point that was interesting. As far as spooky atmosphere and whatnot the first half is a solid 8/10. No real reliance on jumpscares through very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liken the finishing of "Lethe" to finihing a favorite book because like the printed adventure, the game took me to a different world at my own pace. At times, I admittedly would not play this game because I knew I would become absorbed (also like a book), and so I would play something with less immersion if I was on a time schedule. Immersion is the biggest pro, and personally what I look for in any game I play. The game actually made me, very much a grown up and genuine horror fan, jump a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much of an Amnesia style game, with less complicated puzzle and number bosses. Graphic is great. Neat story and atmosphere. You have a health gauge, a stamina gauge and a bad ass mana gauge. But the problem is that, this game is pretty short. It took me around 4 hours to complete. Look forward to Episode 2. Solid 7.5/10 buy on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best indie game I have played! Great streaming content, shat my pants and screamed a lot. Played it through in 4 hours, but thats long enough considering it is indie game made by just couple people. Waiting for the part 2! + Looks amazing! I could just stand in the 1st level enjoying the view for hours + Long enough for indie game + Atmospheric and definitely has the horror they promise + Great physics ~ Enemies spot you pretty easily even from far away, it can get very annoying…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great gameplay as it reminds me of amnesia the dark descent, the story is a dark yet satisfying mystery that will leave you wanting to know more, can be scary at first but you will brave through it, so in my opinion, I think this is a great game to play if you like horror.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really did enjoy this game. The environment is extremely detailed. Lots of stuff to look at. And scares at the right places and times. Can't wait for my episodes! You can check out my more in depth review on my YouTube channel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I originally played this game when it first came out and reviewed it for the Just Adventure website. That review is still accessible, although the site is not posting new content. Since the first release of the game had no achievements, I decided to replay it and strive for perfection (HA!). It is a pretty amazing horror adventure. You begin the story by learning that your father had secrets and you set out by boat to learn more. The game starts when you wash up on a beach and find a deserted…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, heavily inspired from Amnesia: The Dark Descent, at least it seems that way. It has a good length, the monster encounters aren't that much and are mostly easy. The puzzles are simple but in my opinion that's a good thing for a horror adventure. The only downside I found is that the game crashes sometimes, it crashed 3 times for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent indie horror game with beautiful dark atmosphere and unique jumpscares. Puzzles are rather simple, though the graphics, the sound effects and the physics of the game are decent. The story is quite interesting and it is unveiled by reading notes on each level. The duration is also satisfying for an indie title. For me Lethe - Episode One is a gem for the indie horror games category, a must play for those into it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starts with a whimper, keeps whimpering. You know the first rule of entertainment? Start with a bang. Impress me. Do something I haven't seen before. This game is an absolute bore. The most boring of videogame environments: sewers / mines, realized in endless mazelike copypasta "horror." Yawn. The only scary thing about this game is that it might bore you to death. Wander maze. Flick lever. Wander maze. Flick lamp. Wander maze, get pinched by bear trap. Wander maze, eat some food. Wander…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, well, well... Lethe:Episode One... Just finished the game and seriously the ending is disappointing...I know it's only Episode One but the ending doesn't make me want to buy episode 2, except that I probably will; for everything the game has done well. For starters, it's visually enticing, the colour patterns have been chosen wisely to instill a gloomy atmosphere from the beginning and as you progress further onto the mine until you reach the lower levels that are simply scary. And the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe is hard to describe, imagine a blend of Bioshock Infinite without the gun play, Half Life 2's physics and top it all off with Amnesia. The graphics are really nice, the environment and story all feel seamless and unique. If you're looking for something interesting that isn't some triple A title, pick this up and you'll enjoy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally something like Penumbra, I have waited a long time for this moment!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they didn't reinvent the wheel with this one but they managed to create quite a well made, smooth and entertaining game. lethe offers an interesting story, pretty nice graphics, a couple of jump scares, only a few enemies to avoid and a very nice atmosphere while playing. no voice acting at all is a minor downside. the whole story is delivered by text. that's not bad but not great either. i finished the game in 4 1/2 hours and i had a lot of fun while exploring. i had to play the whole game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid if rudimentary Amnesia/Penumbra clone, Lethe doesn't push the genre forward (the closest thing to a unique feature -- Telekinesis -- feels inessential most of the time), but it will capably serve those that need a horror fix while waiting for the next great work of interactive fear. I do look forward to hearing more about the sequel, and I hope KoukouStudios will use their obvious talents to venture beyond over-familiar paths.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is abandoned The atmosphere was nice but unfortunately the game also CTD at random locations and 100% after the second console autosave.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game, too bad the second episode doesn't exist. I really recommend it for Amnesia-fans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just a little message to the developers. LETHE EPISODE 2 PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP, YOU ARE THE BEST DEVELOPERS EVER! I believe in you!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s not bad but it’s also not great. I think Lethe was trying to implement a lot of aspects from more popular horror games like Amnesia and Outlast mainly, but ultimately the game fell short in many many ways. Environment To be honest I didn’t find any of the levels of Lethe to be particularly interesting or memorable. They all blended together because they all kind of looked the same. Boxes and barrels, some human skeletons on the floor, probably some sewage somewhere. After each chapter…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was quite interested in this game when I saw it in the Steam store; the graphics looked amazing, the plot seemed rather different and appealing, so I ended up buying this game on the Summer sale. I wasn't actually expecting anything too great and started this game with my expectations fairly low but, oh boy!, did this game deliver. Lethe is a really good horror game that doesn't overdue on the jumpscares but also doesn't allow the suspense to end. Plot: You play as this man that departs on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Horror games. Highly recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkRy_gr9F6k]MY LETS PLAY HERE This game is very beautiful! too bad i can not get passed the first level without a crash.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tries to be amnesia and fails horribly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got the game on a steam sale for around 9 bucks. Not bad. Pretty much beat the thing in 4 hours. I do like the whole telekenesis ability, but honestly the game feels more like a platformer and puzzle game more than horror. There is one jump scare early on and then the rest is just hiding. I love the horror genre, but honestly I didn't feel that constant level of hyper awareness and edginess that I've gotten from games like dead space or Alien: Isolation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game started off strong but got a bit lost along the way, perhaps because it wasn't clear what was supposed to be going on. Why on earth go down into the mine in the first place? Why not go back the way you came when it became clear something wasn't right? Maybe it would have helped if I had gotten all of the notes. If you're a fan of suspense/horror it may be worth picking up on sale. Personally I probably won't bother with the next episode if it comes out. Pros: - Genuinly suspenseful…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe - Episode One A game that surprised me very much. If you're a fan of games like Amnesia or Penumbra, you'll love this production. This title begins a bit slowly, slowly illustrating the history of a given place by notes of different people. The game has a creepy atmosphere, very good audiovisual setting, fun riddles / puzzles and an interesting story. As for me, the title is worth playing, and I personally had a great time while playing it. Oh and that women is pretty scary.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Developers really need to start understanding the meaning of the phrase "show, don't tell"... it doesn't just apply to books and articles and essays.. it also applies to game writing. As soon as the game opened with not one, nor two, but 3+ big hunks of text I knew I was in for trouble. Sure enough, then came the many, many poorly written "in-game notes left by someone who's explaining everything in an out-of-character way" that I'm honestly just so tired of. A LOT of faux pas design-wise as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would not say this game is bad. I would not say this game is good either. The problem is halfway between. Where environmental horrors have been nearly perfected by Frictional and a few other indies (Scratches, Layers of Fear) this one falls flat. The inspirations are apparent since you make your way deeper through an abandoned mine and brave fears that patrol hallways but the problems come from a focus on imitation over inspiration. Without a concept of WHY these games work, Lethe…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't see much action, don't see much horror. The atmosphere is good, but the game basically base on puzzle, puzzle, puzzle. when people buy this game. Tney definitely want to enjoy the horro or atleast action with the game. I played this game for more than 2 hours, an only 3 times i met the monster. All of the time I have to solve puzzle with red stupid locking door. It's so annoying and must say that I do not enjoy the game anymore. I don't really care if you think the game is good. This is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe is a decent indie horror tittle that will give you Amnesia vibes as you play. Beautiful graphics, excellent shadow and lighting effects, spooky environments, and great background sound creates a truly surreal experience. The game blends exploration, solving simple puzzles, and creature avoidance well as the three components never feels over used. The sections with the lurking creature in it are unquestionably terrifying and may cause moments of intense panic when encountering it. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yooo, a spooky game with psychokinesis mechanics and a decent story. if you like amnesia you'll probably like this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished this, I found it to be quite enjoyable and addicting, lol. It's very atmospheric, and creepy. Pros: - great graphics - great atmosphere - great sound fx and eerie music - puzzles were good, some easy, some hard, some just right :D Cons: - i'm sure there were things i didn't like while i was playing, but i don't remember them, so must not have been that important, hehe - ohh I remember one little thing is the physics...sometimes you get a snagged on objects (eg. doorways, board…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine something huge, beautiful, but completely unappealing. In this game, we’ll wander through an underground location. What awaits us is literally a massive maze of mines, torture chambers, and bunkers. And there’s only one goal-to escape (preferably alive). Each area will have several mini-puzzles. To solve them, you’ll need to pull a lever or press a button. The catch is that you first have to find them, and what stands in your way are poison, electricity, and axe-wielding maniacs. It…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished this on my Youtube channel (link at end of review for anyone who wants to see a gameplay sample before buying), and overall I thought this was a decent horror game. What is unfortunate is that apparently Lethe Episode One was meant to be the first in a series of games, but sadly said series got cancelled and as such there's never been an Episode Two. But nonetheless, Episode One is worth picking up and playing! Other people have mentioned it already, but you can definitely see…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Instead of jump scares, this game relies on fantastic sound and level design and a thoughtfully crafted ambiance to cultivate a sense of dread that carries through the very end. Amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically Amnesia, with better graphics. Lethe doesn't reinvent the wheel in any way, but what it does, it does well. It's an atmospheric horror game with a bit of hide and seek element and some basic lever pulling puzzles. It's unfortunate, that the game didn't try to move away from the generic horror set pieces and elements: abandoned mine, old research lab, crypts, caves all stuff we have seen a million times before. There is always episode two... oh wait... Either way, for the atmosphere…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horror adventure, heavily inspired by Amnesia the Dark Descent by the looks of it. Crisp graphics, dark and creepy atmosphere with good music and excellent environmental effects, including very good surround sound to hear were a closeby monster is, in case you run into one.. and you will. Story-wise its pretty simple as is usual for these types of games. Story is delivered purely by notes you find throughout the game. So no cut scenes, voice acting or anything. Bit of stealth mechanics, use…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An atmospheric, but ultimately empty game. I think it’s tense/scary, however I find it too flat: repetitive environments, bland/nonexisting story, and characterless enemies. It feels very much the only thing going on is going around a maze, switching a lever, again and again, and again. The 3D engine is also slow. Oh, and there is no "real" ending.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Indie horror thing in the vein of Amnesia et al i.e. lots of creeping about, monsters must be avoided as you've no offensive powers and there's some light physic-y puzzling. Looked pretty nice and was engaging enough at the time of playing but added little of note to the glut of these things on Steam and slightly over-stayed it's welcome.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An intense horror adventure, with a deep atmosphere and lots of well executed thrilling moments. No doubt, a great game !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5 stars for this splendid horror game in the vein of the Penumbra series and the Corridors mythos. Purchase without any hesitation! Would def. buy a part 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe is a first person adventure with survival horror elements. Explore an atmospheric and frightening world and uncover the dark secrets of your origins. Short version: it's like Amnesia A Machine for Pigs, but with better graphics. A bit longer version: it's like Amnesia A Machine for Pigs. Lethe is a walking simulator with creepy atmosphere and some jump scares. Somewhat surprisingly for a small indie project, the visuals are very good, the monster s abit less so, but they fit the story.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing Lethe reminds me in many ways of playing Penumbra, and that alone is high praise. I must say that I am thrilled that this game is actually a *survival* horror - too many recently released games in this genre are effectively haunted house rides with no actual danger to the player, but there are environmental and sentient hazards abound in Lethe. The story is also engaging, mixing in elements of science fiction and mystery to an otherwise realist backdrop makes for some awe-inspiring…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Amnesia Vibe! Old Days when devs were developing good games. This one makes me feel bad for playing those assetflips from emika_games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really great game. I loved the physics, the audio is especially good and there are some cool achievements. I enjoyed stacking and climbing boxes to reach high places and find secret loot. Riving wooden boxes in the bear traps is super satisfying; seeing the pieces and items inside explode across the room, paired with the loud smashing sound, is really funny. And you can burn stuff! A proper video game. It's like a combination of Amnesia and Dishonored, in a way. A must-play if you enjoy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lethe - Episode 1 The Story I play a man who discovers that he is not who he believed himself to be. An old document from the attic proves that his real father once placed him in someone else's care. But why? Before he can fully process the shock, the protagonist sets out to find his origins and travels to the house where his real parents lived. Strangely, he wakes up on the beach in front of the shabby little house, and so begins a bizarre quest... The game is played from the character's…
