60 of 142 · most liked firstThe VR version is just like the flat version so if you liked that (which I did) then you'll like this. The one criticism I'd make is that there doesn't appear to be a way to remove the dot from the center of the screen. I don't remember if there was in the flat version but in VR it's even more immersion breaking. UPDATE: Not sure if it was a stealth hotfix but there's now an option to disable the white dot so kudos to the devs, great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others have mentioned, this is a straight port from the flat game - which is a good thing, as the original was a great game. I have only just dipped in to test out the VR implementation - but it is a solid VR conversion. Everything works flawlessly for me (on Rift). I played through the flat version and thought the game was good, but not very frightening. It is a testament to VR that being *in* the game that it is totally immersive and frankly terrifying now! UPDATE: I mentioned in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy if you have WMR, controls are buggy and there's no way to reconfigure them
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect game to port to VR!! Been waiting for this one for a while!! Layers of Fear was super witty and creepy in flat mode... this VR version is so immersive Im going to need more alcohol to get anywhere. If something is intimidating or creepy in flat mode, you can be sure its at least 10x worse in VR. This game is no exception! The immersive experience makes it a brand new game even if you know roughly what happens.. which you don't really cause this game is structured differently each…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hands were not visible making it nearly impossible to interact with the world. The grafik looks like your VR googles are dirty. Its a pain to play. I loved the flat version and was more than disappointed to see, that the vr version is such a let down. Cant recommend it, but i hope the devs fix the many issues the vr version has. But thank you anyway devs for making such a good game, even if the vr version is almost unplayable. The flat version was realy good :)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I ignored all the negative reviews mentioning technical problems. I figured "I have a Vive and Vive wands - surely all these people are having problems with Indexes or PiMaxes". I don't remember the last time I had problems running a VR game. But here we are with a completely nonfunctional game. Launch screen says "Doesn't support your selected controllers". If I start anyway, I can't get past the "Adjust your brightness" screen. I'll give it a few more tries I guess - then refunding.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Experienced on the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/Sxlf0I1mKSw Layers of Fear VR is one of the best experiences I have ever had in VR. It's a must buy in my opinion. It's a horror walking simulator with great story-telling, that doesn't rely on jump scares. Although there are some technical & gameplay issues to be aware of, the game itself is a masterpiece. Game took me a little over 4 hours to complete. There is full locomotion…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only tested the VR implementation for now and although its a port of a flat game, the game does a pretty great job of making it at least seem like it was created with vr in mind. Has most of the options you would expect for a vr game but lacks left handed controls. Visuals cant really be adjusted sadly, hope that changes Although index support isnt listed, it seems to work perfectly fine without any fiddling Does not seem to have the inheritance DLC, hopefully we get that in the future
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the description, there is information that the game is supported for Oculus Quest 2 which is not true. I tried for 30 min fix bug with hands that are not rendered, but I could not find any offical bugfix, nor any solution by changing some properties. Becouse of that game is unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Caveat: The devs stopped working on this in 2020, and they /explicitly/ state that of the covered headsets, mine is not among the list. All this said: I cannot interact with a single thing in this game on a Quest 2. Not a thing. I'm stuck in a foyer. I can't open the doors. I can access the menu, and interact in that, but nothing in the game itself. I've tried every button, both controllers and at this point I've only got bodily chucking my head through the interface left to try. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Microstuttering when turning/moving around on a 4090/13900K rig. Tried very low resolutions and low settings as well just to experiment. No other games exhibit such atrocious behaviour.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now I've never played the desktop version, but even with vr there were a couple good scares but I was more amused than scared. Also the movements were terrible as you could get stuck easily and sometimes fall out of the map, Happened 4 times to me. Response to developer: I did stream myself playing it, and here are the timestamps (3 out of the 4) where I managed to teleport out of the map. https://youtu.be/A4g6frUQC7k 54:20, didn't realize until 55:52 1:44:01 2:18:07 - spawned on top of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works well for the rift, happy to see this in VR :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On the Meta Quest 3, hands are not visible and opening doors / cabinets is borderline broken. Was looking forward to this title, having played the original many times, but left disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a door opener simulation. No layers of fear just layers of papers to read in your journey to open the door.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't even see my hands, which does make hand controls frustrating. Also, the movement feels weird. I definitely do not recommend this on Oculus Quest 2, even if it is marked as supported.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While a functional VR port the whole game is bizarrely washed out and so gray it feels like I'm swimming through a gray fog throughout the whole game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an excellent rendition of Layers of Fear in virtual reality. Put aside some slight issues, all of which are far from deal breakers (the main one is the world scale being seemingly too large at the moment by about 5-10%) the VR edition is practically perfectly catered for room scale with full motion controller support, decent performance and excellent visuals. Having actually played the original in VR 3 years ago using VorpX, I can safely say that this is orders of magnitude better,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some people seem to be having trouble finding where to turn the cursor off. Go to SETTINGS / GAMEPLAY / DISPLAY CURSOR and uncheck it. This can only be done from the main menu, not from within the the game. When in game, GAMEPLAY options are not available. It's definitely better with it off. I'm one of the biggest Layers of Fear fans there is. Two years ago, in my review of the original, I asked that it be brought to VR, and here it is. So great! I played though on screen on my PC and got one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried it on a 3070 with the Quest 2. It has microstuttering issues, that I have been unable to fix. Other players have reported the same problems. Sadly, this makes the game unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear is my favorite horror game. The VR version is just like the flat version. I loved the flat version so i loved it even more to play it on a other perspective. This game is one of the best games i have played in VR and everything works flawlessly for me. (i used the Valve Index VR) The game has a creepy and well-designed atmosphere and because of the VR it manages to be more scarier then the flat version. This game is definitely worth a try!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a port of the desktop version and it shows, but it's a pretty damn good one. From what I experienced thus far, it plays better than a lot of VR games I tried. Being at the mansion and experiencing all these events and scares firsthand is a wonderful experience. Horror games are truly best experienced in VR. I'd give it an 8 out of 10 . I do hope that Bloober Team would consider also porting Observer into VR (ObserVR :D) as it would be one hell of a game to experience in VR.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played played the normal Layers of Fear, so I did not know what to expect. Wow, was I surprised. This must be one of the beste horror VR games out there on pc. The time I played I got scared in almost every new room :). This is not for people with a bad heart. Until now I give this a 10/10 Watch here my first hour of gameplay: https://youtu.be/-E-jzQgdvYo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 - in VR, Really Scary ! While mostly jump scares, the atmosphere keeps it scary & tension on going. Works well with Quest 3 Only with 'Air Link', change, OpenXR Runtime to Meta Quest Link the Controls work as intended, no issues. (flipping pages, walking faster etc. etc) While it does work with Steam Link and Virtual Desktop Streamer, has problems, the Controls get messed up and hand disappears. I'd highly recommend using Air Link. and doing so, it runs perfectly. No micro…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have the "No hands" issue like so many others. None of the solution that people offered here or online worked for me. I'll be asking for a refund. Using quest 2. From the steam home room, the was an error message saying I have a controller mismatch along with some other stuff, basically saying the quest 2 controllers are not compatible with the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →edit: I begrudgingly changed my review after playing some more. I gave a positive recommendation to curse of the dead gods recently. a very polished uninspired game. This is the reverse. I realized - I prefer games with great storytelling and art, even though the VR port is pretty bad. I wish more games were both polished and inspired, like hades for example. there is so much to like here with the atmosphere and the storytelling and experiencing worlds in VR is so great but the VR…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure how this is getting such high reviews. Then again, this is a review for the Valve Index headset/controllers. 1. Game CONSTANTLY and randomly ports you back to the foyer/entrance to the mansion when walking around/bumping into things/trying to play the game at all. I couldn't even make it past the main room at the bottom of the stairs, I got as far as the kitchen and that was it. 2. At least the valve index controllers barely respond at all to trying to click on the 'magnifying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I instantly fell in LOVE with Layers of Fear back in 2015 when it was announces and the Early Access was released. So much, that I actually made a full Nvidia 3D Vision fix for the game (at the time it was also running an OpenGL renderer - for those that remember the day): http://3dsurroundgaming.com/OpenGL3DVisionGames.html#L Seeing that this Masterpiece will be translated to VR, made my hearth skip a few beats! I always dreamt about experiencing this in VR and I never asked for it, as I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →felt like a half baked version of a great game to cash in on the VR craze, and in VR you really see between the seams in this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a nice creepy walk I had... I was expecting a lot for the VR version of Layers Of Fear and I'm not disappointed ! The creepy atmosphere in the game gives you many more sensations in VR ! And damn that lady crying everywhere, you really want to dodge her... Waiting for the DLC in VR if possible ! P.S : the moment with the endless roof was a bit difficult to not fall with the current control (manage to handle the position of your body + the movement with the trackpad make me felt many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →𖤐 I have played through the normal Layers of Fear multiple times in the past so I was really looking forward to experiencing it in VR however this game was ported to VR very poorly. I can't speak for other headsets but it is almost unplayable on the Metaquest. My hands were at first not visible until I found a work around in the controller settings, interacting with objects and doors was janky and didn't even work sometimes and there were many times where I could only move sideways and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't remember the game having this many jumpscares, it's especially unbearable in vr when something flies at you with a loud bang every other step. Impossible to get immersed in the world or feel anything other than frustration. If you want good vr horror play the amnesia tdd vr mod
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, on Meta Quest via Steam Link the controllers are not visible. So, it is challanging to solve some puzzles. But, besides this it is a decent VR experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →stuttering on 3090/12900k/ddr5 low or high settings dont matter QUEST 3
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so much better in vr! Since the game progresses by looking away and turning around, it is much more interesting and sacry in vr. The only issue I had was holding objects. I had to squeeze my controlers very tightly for some reason, or else I would drop whatever I was holding. I didn't have any performance issues but I do have a fairly good pc. This game takes a lot of "juice" out of your computer, so you need a good one in order for it to run smoothly
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh man - So I don't normally play horror games, let alone VR horror games, but I'm foolishly doing it this month for charity on Twitch AND OH BOY, THIS GAME! This game had me on edge the entire time, the atmosphere it built was terrifying and mysterious and had me going NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE so many times, but still made me want to unravel the story and mystery of it all! Only thing I wish for this game in VR is that all the objects had physics so that I could interact with them and that I could…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually and atmospherically the game is stunning. However, the controls make it impossible to play. The HMD is poorly configured sending you in all different directions. Once HMD is turned off and switched to controller directed movement, the issue persists as though you never changed the settings. Unfortunately, not being able to direct your character where you need it to go makes the game unappealing and unplayable. I am hoping that in the future they remedy this issue but even with several…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One major game breaking bug that makes it unplayable. If you need to turn using controllers, it will often teleport you elsewhere. I've hit an area where if I turn at all anywhere, I am teleported off the map and have to restart the area.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I much appreciate the effort of supporting VR industry! But I'm sorry, this was such a boring game for me :C (I've never tried desktop version)

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome experience in VR. Well worth the cost! P.S. Don't look back. Unless you want to find the secret behind you :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great port from the normal game. For users who haven't played the original one, this is a good VR experience. Is not that scary but the story is pretty good once you connect all the clues.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alternate title: door opening simulator. Horror is near comedy level with how dumb it gets. Hard to believe these guys did the Silent Hill remake. If you are going to play and have a Quest 3S make sure to use VDXR or else you won't have any hands in the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played layer of fear before and was excited to play it in VR. When i played it i had the chance to play it in 3D Vison with reshade to tincker the color, contrast and hdr mode. It was very beautiful and a great experience. But the VR version was not as well. Colors are washed out and the contrast are horrible, there is no black, everything look grey. And the gameplay is often buggy. I was stuck multiple times, which forced me to restart the game and replay long moment that was not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game! Ended up in a mental institution for a while after completing it, but overall, 11/10!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A treat in VR, wouldn't have had it any other way. I love a good horror themed fun house and this had hit the spot. Too bad the remake didn't get a VR version. Will have to wait for praydogs Unreal Engine VR injector mod to give the remake a spin in VR
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First full VR Horror game I've every played through, and my god was it fantastic, This game had me trembling in the parts where it was necessary, my pants dirt brown, and a level of immersion to the point where my IRL body was reacting to the extremely high up bits. Very well done! Can't wait to pick up Blair Witch VR and give that a go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great VR horror experience. The creators of this game thought carefully how to mess up with the players head and make jump scares when least expected. At very few points in the game, the jump scares are do expected, on purpose, and it is still done masterfully! If you are using Oculus Quest with Virtual Desktop and you don't see your character's hands while playing, try using Air Link instead, most chances it shall solve the problem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game that helps with constipation!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hmm i've probably purchased this on every platform available, aaaand . . . yeah still worth it. scary as hell, trippy as hell, pretty good story, and it feels like the audio was rebalanced for VR so that is a plus!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first terror game I've ever played on VR and now I don't think I'll ever find a better one. I like it because it doesn't abuse of jump scares (yes, it has a few jump scare scenes, but after the first one, you can see the next ones coming). Most of it is pure psychological terror.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing game. everyone saying the controls are bad must have played a different game than I did because this is one of the best ports to VR i have ever played. Super solid, looks amazing, and the game is just TERRIFYING when you're in it. 10/10 highly recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A VR port of the original psychedelic psychological horror puzzle game. It works just as well as the original, scary and atmospheric. If you liked the original and want to play again in VR, do it! https://youtu.be/0tPfebfKvu0
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got my headset a few months ago, soon found out I really .. Really enjoy VR horror games. Found the "flat" version of this game and was really impressed with what I saw. But held off till the VR version came out. So my expectations might have been a bit too high. Cause I have no idea what it is that's causing this .. but I cannot get immersed in it. The scares allmost allways happen outside my FOV. So I hear a clunk, crash, glass shatter, turn around and something has happened. The moments…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely played but in those few minutes of playing I got teleported to a different floor and also unable to move. After starting a new game I didn't get teleported but I got stuck on the couch able to move but then sent back in the same spot. The game as a horror would be good but just those two things already showed me that it is maybe to glitchy to allow friends to play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im using an Index and the resolution is really bad, reminds me alot of playing on PSVR. The game seems fine otherwise, nice athmosphere. I would love to come back to this game if they add options for high end graphics. But for now I just cant get used to the grainy low resolution textures. Another odd thing is that there is a white dot in the middle of your view. Like a crosshair when playing first person games, doesnt really translate well to have that hovering infront of your eyes in VR.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are using the Valve Index, I can not recommend the game in its current state. You move with artificial locomotion in the game (joystick-to-move) and whenever you bump into *anything*, including invisible walls you can only pass after doing/solving something else, you get teleported to a previous position / the last position where you entered an area. This is extremely frustrating and made me give up on the game very early on. To my knowledge, Valve shows the Index as supported for all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watch my video here https://youtu.be/DNkL8OHzUBc Well it's a classic horror game and now it's even more scary in VR. I jumped more times than I remember doing. Looks OK for an oldie. Could do with some SS to make it sharper. Gameplay is just story with scares which is fine. No puzzles is great. Worked flawlessly for me. I using the Rift S as I didn't see Index support, but I've heard it is coming. Recommended if you like a good scare.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great, very nice, only negative is it stutters for a moment between major scene changes or effects, like for a microsecond it stutters when something major happens. - But otherwise a really nice port, and strictly a port, no added fancy things for VR. I liked it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →genuinely a lot better than i expected. doesn't work in steam VR but air link works fine. the disorienting warping corridors translate super well in VR. I had a ton of fun
