Krater
Developer Fatshark
Krater is a role-playing video game for Microsoft Windows. It was released in 2012 via the Steam digital distribution platform. Fatshark developed the game following the studio's moderate success after developing Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West and other titles. On 29 May 2012 it was announced the Krater $10,000 Victor Edition, in which Victor Magnuson, the game designer, delivered the video game to the buyer… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

60 of 182 · most liked firstThe first impression is that it's a Fallout-like (the original Fallout that is) RPG with an interesting world, and great atmosphere, but once you play for a while you realize the story is unimaginative and the quests are like they were copy-pasted from some MMO. After a few hours of following the storyline and exploring the world I gave up as the game is simply a boredomfest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a single player game - this game is finished - I myself stopped playing it before co-op came out. Point is - for what it is for the price (on sale under 10 bucks) its a great game for the price. It is what it is and it plays well for what it is. This is not fallout and never was designed to be. Watch a few non-biased videos of game play and decide for your self. Heck... try the free DEMO here on steam. Don't let these negative reviews of these disenfranchised commenters make your mind up for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY! IT SHOULD NOT BE IN THE STORE! UNFINISHED AND BROKEN HEAP OF LARD!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only work the developers do on this game each year is put it in every sale. Do yourself a favor and avoid this unfinished game, there is nothing good about it. Also, don't fall for the "co-op" label, it's only 3 levels long.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've hacked together a demo for my game Krater Lake ! You can mess around in it and fight the bugs (yes both types of bugs). Hoping to launch a Steam page soon, so stick around :)) Link to the demo below⬇️ #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame #pixelart @gamemaker.io
unlabelledView post →Not worth it even on sale IMO. This negative review was a long time coming. I've had it since release, and if it was in early access I had it since then IIRC. This review will be based on my memory from a long time ago and I know I've tried to give it another shot at some point only to remember why I stopped playing. This review more than anything else boils down to one major issue; Lack of "Tactical Pause" Feature! The game starts off well enough. It seemed good. There's a selection of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one is right at the bar for me, any worse and I would have said no but it does have some neat ideas and an interesting theme/location. I enjoyed the action RPG bit but some parts of the game felt tedious and other parts were a little buggy but I was able to work around it. If you pick it up cheap you'll probably get some fun out of it, but it feels like it probably could have sat in the oven a little longer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I paid 100$ for a Gold Patron Edition on 5/26/12. This gave me a collectors edition, and gave me the perk of being able pick an item to select the name of an item that would appear in game. I waited, and waited. My perk was never fulfilled, and they barely had any support. There were multiple different tiers of backing, including one for 10,000$. This company is among the most dishonest in the business. The game had a ton of potential, and it was just abandoned, like they do with literally…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An unfinished mess after endless promises. Playable in the sense it runs, if barely. Lied about co-op only to implement a broken version of it - the campaign never got the promised co-op. To me, perfectly exemplifies the way Fatshark does game development - quick and dirty, always looking to make a fast buck, with no care for their craft. Avoid - it really is a pile of trash.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy, full of bugs / glitches - been years and no patch, game was left to die in an unfinished state. Avoid at all costs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Promised features have never been implemented. Bugs and known issues prevail to this day. Content has been cut and watered down due the developer's lack of skill to tackle problems with their own engine. At one point the game was just discontinued and never been spoken of again. If that doesn't scare you off, you have money to burn or your time isn't of much worth to you. Then you still might find something in Krater. You could maybe embrace it as a work of art. Marvel at a concept that never…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played a large portion of the game and most of it was repetitive and felt copy pasted from one quest to the next.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing title. Grindy, repetitive and overall not a fun game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had this game for like 10 years and it has never worked.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that could have been so much more than it is today. A swedish Stalker RPG, or a swedish Fallout wouldn't be far from describing how it feels when playing. The first city gives a promise of what to come in the rest of the game, but unfortunately there is nothing new added after the first enemy encounters in terms of gameplay. Rinse and repeat until you tire. I have myself not finished the game although I feel like I have given the game many chances, as I would LOVE to like this game. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the visual design, but the gameplay is ... not good. Combat is boring, and there is SO. MUCH. OF. IT. Also, kinda irked that there are ~20 recruitable characters and not a single one of them appears to be a woman.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy. Unfinished trash from a developer that abandoned it. Such a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is unfiished
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You will grind. You will grind like a grain millstone. You will grind like a knife sharpner. You will grind like a sauage mill. You will grind like a hammer mill. You will grind like a hard drive past warranty. You will grind like a car in need of new break roters. And then rage uninstall at a pontless patch the quadrupels install size and fixes nothing nor add any content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can score this while it's on sale, I suggest giving it a try. Actually didn't mind this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →***** you fatshark for never finishing this and dropping support
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review for solo-play : This could have been a great game, but they missed that by miles away (see Tank/Healer/Damage Dealers section). It could have been a good game, but they also missed that by having a highly monotonous combat, with only 2 abilities for each of your 3 characters that you just spam when they're available, plus 1 item per character with a long cooldown which makes it usually nearly useless. It could have been a decent game, like other Action RPGs where you just smash things…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring, bad game. Nothing to see here. Stay away.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game Krater, despite having delivered a Top-notch and unforgettable and thrilling adventure experience, is smeared with some of the most frustrating elements, making an impatient player turn berserk out of rage. The major fault and god knows why, the developers didn't care to include it (not expecting from the renowned Fatshark Studios) is the fact that the world map allowing you to traverse is the only means you come to explore the vast open world sandbox of the game. However, moving from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was both happy and disappointed by this game. If you are looking for a fullfilling single player top down hack and slash with some rpg and strategy, then this will do. However if you wanted this for co-op. forget about it. They released a "co-op" Krater update that put the word "co-op" to shame. There is no co-op story gameplay. There are specific missions you can do together and they don't take very long to complete. Single Player Rating: 7/10 Multiplayer Rating: 1/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RECOMMENDED : HIGHLY NOT, run you fools Reasons : - Fatshark is too fat now to update game, Krater is 100% abandonned/unsupported. - 1000% grind game without interrest : only repetitive content, including getting experience for level up - fully unbalanced game - dlc don't worth it about content We, for sure, love animals in real life. But this Shark who build Krater, just released unfinished and unsupported game to get money from players. Now it is rich, too rich to become Fatshark, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Krater looks really good on paper. Post-apocalyptic Sweden where everything is made out of scrap and IKEA furniture. However, the reality is weak plot, dump characters and mediocre (at best) gameplay. I don’t understand RPG elements in this game. There is no explanation what I should level up and why. Just stay away from this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had potential, but it’s unfinished and will never be finished. It should be removed from sale tbh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obviously broken and unfinished. Fatshark should be ashamed of themselves. A shame, it's cute and has some nice world-building but doesn't work with a damn.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was going to play from beginning to end but after 90 minutes of gameplay this is too miserable and boring to keep playing. If this genre of game interests you I highly recommend anything else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shame i didn't know about refunds back then.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game with great potential that starts out good and just gets boring and tedious. At the time of my last playing the game was not completed and you could not go further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will not run for me. Seems like a Bug the devs had on release already and still not Fixed. Have to assume it is abandonware this way. Cannot Recommend!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not Recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel like... The developers tried their best to make a game but didn't exactly know how to do it? I give them credit, that making a game isn't easy. But you have to understand that this is a top down "rpg" so when you zoom in on the main characters and keep everything in the open world in small text boxes, you really ruin the immersion that this game can offer. It just feels, lacking. Some voices here, no voices there, a mixture of voices and no voices mid sentence. There is no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unplayable, litterally it's unplayable, you start the game, you get a screen saying error patch notes could not be loaded, then there's an ''ok'' button at the bottom which you can't click so you can't get past the broken patch notes screen making it quite litterally impossible to play the game, disgracefull that they'd leave it in this state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfinished product, should absolutely be removed from store.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even though they ended up abandoning this game it did have some intersting components to it. I think it could have been intersting but getting past some of the issues and how the players interacted and the strange levelling system. Thankfully I didn't have to worry about it too much as it was DOA.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A brief interest in the concept will very rapidly drain away from the sheer pointlessness of it all. The developer lost interest about as quickly as the playerbase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall this game is fun, but for some reason it loses its luster extremely quickly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An unpolished turd. Numerous crashes to desktop while trying to navigate inventory or upgrade characters. Horrid pathing AI. So bad, that during some fights team members will suddenly run off up stairs and cause a wipe. Sometimes getting halfway across a map before realizing ONE member just decided to stand in place, even while still being highlighted as part of the moving group. Quests that cannot be finished because you happened to enter a dungeon prior to receiving the quest and kill the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Krater exists in technological hospice—a once-living game world now terminal on most systems. Its permanent character death mechanic now applies to the game itself. Buy only if you accept your purchase is less ownership than temporary visitation rights to digital content already marked for deletion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the worst action rpgs I've ever played. The problem is its so boring largely thanks to unfulfilling combat. You get a party of three. I had four people to choose from by the time I quit. Each one is a different class and comes with two skills. So combat boils down to your characters auto-attacking and using the same six skills over and over and over while they slowly beat down the enemies. Seriously, some of them take like a solid minute to kill. Some dungeons are so loaded…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun for a while as a solo game, but after a few hours it feels like 'more of the same'. The mechanics are OK, but could have been better and the interface generally could have used some finetuning. This could have been good, if it had been fully developed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Accept quests, run around and kill stuff, run back and get money. It's not that exciting. Not bad, but probably not worth the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crashes a lot for me and I am reading a lot about it not being finished. Too bad, cause it seemed like a fun game to me till it started crashing continuously. I would not recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game got cool ideas, style and charisma but it is horribly unfinished. It's a game that was clearly given up upon somewhere on the half done mark. The interface is super annoying and with way too much clicking required. The storyline kind of tapers off and dies. And while it promises multiplayer I have yet to hear of anyone getting it to work in a satesfactory manner or at all. The good... Like I said I like the style and atmosphere of the game. Enough for it to be fun for a few hours,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my first game bought (or rather - rented for unknown time) here after registration. I played a dozen of action RPGs, Diablo-likes and bunch of games with Mixed reviews. But still had hard time recommending it. On the one hand - it's a short game. On the other hand - you need to gring, a lot. I dare to say you spend more time grinding than doing anything else, that include dealing with main questline (which is simple but you will be stopped by final boss). Once you find good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5 years and I am still waiting for the game to be finished. GFY devs. thieving spunktrumpets
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe a bit simplistic and easy-going, but still manages to evoke some of the diablo-esque fun of dungeon-grinding and mob-smashing to find loot. If you're crazy about games like that, I had a lot more fun with this game than I did with Torchlight.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its abandonware, never finished. A shameful display. DONT BUY!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Krater was a promising game with a unique aestetic that took place in a weird world I genuinely wanted to explore. I use past-tense there because this game will sadly (seemingly) never be finished. I get it, stuff happens in game development but a game this dead should at least have a note that it's in an Early Access state even though it's really just as done as it's going to get. A shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game would be great if it wasn't so terrible. There are great ideas in this game, and if they were further developed and a bit polished, this game would probably be good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game back when I got it, way before playing other ARPGs (Until 2016, I really only played either Strategy games or Bethesda RPGs). I thought "Wow. This character building thing is great!" only to find out through experience with other games that it has almost no character building system whatsoever. The combat is pretty repetitive, the buffs are insignificant, there are very few weapons and the stats system is based on"Implants" rather than leveling. This implant based…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not very balanced game. At times it repeats a lot. Opponents get stronger you hardly get strong. Stores either sell the same items or weak. The battles are slow. The big map goes terribly slow. And they sent in small battles they delayed further. It was interesting at first, but quickly became boring. The degree of difficulty you choose doesn't matter. After a few hours of play you have already reached the last 15 levels. The money is very small and at times the items you sell. An abandoned…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Krater is a game doesn't seem to work. It launches into windowed mode, so you need to alt-enter to switch to full screen. Then it presents you with a "301" HTML error from their nginx site. There's an "ok" button but you can't click it, for some reason the mouse clicks don't seem to register in full screen. Amazingly they're charging $15 for a broken game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dead.............
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Krater to me seems to be a flawed gem of a game. Its not perfect, it has a few bugs but its still a gem. I have had a lot of fun with it. Whats very positive about the game: 1) It has an amazing soundtrack which seamlessly alternate versions of the same track when in and out of combat. 2) The level of unit customisation in this 'semi-squad'based dungeon crawler is truly clever. Two of the same class can play totally differently depending on the buffs applied to their abilities. 3) Combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agreed - Abandonware - Currently unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early Access crash grab. Game is not finished, was abandoned, and anyone who made an Early Access purchase is left with this trash to rot in their steam library.
