Invasion Of The Body Snatchers by way of Unedited Footage Of A Bear / This House Has People In It. Feels evil.

The atmosphere is so pervasively creepy; the movie is instant late October. Irrespective of metaphor, it's like a Lynch nightmare. "It looked like you, but it wasn't you."

unlabelledView post →Petition to supplant The Shining with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) as the favorite horror movie of film snobs. It's easily as meticulously constructed, wasn't made by an egomaniacal dickhead, and is actually scary. Seriously this movie still messes me up every time.
unlabelledView post →Shattered at the loss of Donald Sutherland, who from the neo-noir sensuality of KLUTE to the Gothic dread of DON'T LOOK NOW and the chilling loneliness of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS influenced every corner of the world of modern film. A singular talent, and what a legacy for all of us.

We're starting with NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, then proceeding to CAT PEOPLE, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) and ending w/THE INNOCENTS.

It’s easier to believe than the reality that people saw a sociopath with dementia & said, “That’s my guy!”

unlabelledView post →Resent that this moment of Donald Sutherland in INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) has been denatured by memefication, because in context it's a chilling, despairing moment in a brilliant film that I think of often in these times rife with the bodysnatched braying the call of the Hegemon.

The film is more about marriage and fear of women than the traditional 50s anti-Communist sci-fi, and that gives it an extra frisson. The film looks great as well:

Prankster gold! 😁
unlabelledView post →I watched the whole series and did enjoy most of it, so keep that in mind because this is going to sound really, really critical. Liked the premise but I feel like it just jumped the shark multiple times, kept going, and jumped the shark again every following season. That said, yes, you're right that it does explore some interesting topics, but the way they did and kept raising the stakes every season just kind of ruined it. So much of it was just completely implausible even by TV science…
