Forbidden Planet
Starship C57D travels to planet Altair 4 in search of the crew of spaceship "Bellerophon," a scientific expedition that has been missing for twenty years. One doesn’t have to recall the great Canadian clown Leslie Nielsen became later in his career to be amused by his hunky, womanizing starship captain.
unlabelledView post →Rewatching Forbidden Planet, it occurs to me that Frank Drebin's intonation and body language were born on the set of this film. Leslie Nielsen acted ham-ishly in his first big role, and then realized he could get a lot of mileage out of parodying this sort of thing. What a perceptive man.

unlabelledView post →🧵I watched Forbidden Planet last night. Hadn't seen it for decades. A super-intelligent race is destroyed, despite its technological advances, by its own subconscious primitive fears and greed, 'the monster of the ID'. Hashtag AI, etc. Anyway, couldn't help but notice how the film influenced others.

A literal shitposter. I feel like this is what happens when you don’t take on board the lessons of the movie Forbidden Planet.

unlabelledView post →#BOTD in 1926: the incomparable Leslie Nielsen (d. 2010). He parlayed his leading man image into one of the great comic personas of the 80s and 90s via AIRPLANE! (1980) and THE NAKED GUN (1988), but I'll always remember him as Commander J.J. Adams in FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956) #filmsky #moviesky #botd
unlabelledView post →If you want to watch an episode of Star Trek without Kirk- or Spock-level talent, you should watch Forbidden Planet, which is a fun, thoughtful sci-fi movie brought down to earth by perfectly respectable performances that are dull as hell to watch.

unlabelledView post →RIP. Forbidden Planet is a favourite movie of mine and he is great as the Cook. Kind of feels like he is in a different movie - a character from a WW2 service comedy who wound up on a spaceship instead of the Pacific - but it's a good bit.
unlabelledView post →Forbidden Planet has a lot of places where it is genuinely quite bad (all of them involving the only woman in the movie) but man this is just...the near peak of golden age sci-fi, right here www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBxU...

unlabelledView post →The Saturday movie was Forbidden Planet (1956) and it's still a cracking movie despite the almost 70 years intervening and a couple of dodgy scenes. The plot holds up and it still _looks_ fantastic. And a young Leslie Nielsen has a strange resemblance to Daniel Craig.
unlabelledView post →Well that was a good movie. We deserve them now and then. Misogyny aside, that was a really really good movie. We deserve something horrible now to make up for this... #Monsterdon #ForbiddenPlanet
unlabelledView post →One of my favorite things about the movie Forbidden Planet is that in spite of crewing a faster-than-light starship, a technology so unspeakably advanced the crew is still a bunch of drunk, horny sailors.

unlabelledView post →This concludes my #monsterdon thread for #ForbiddenPlanet, a movie that I liked but thought was more interesting than good, if that makes sense? It makes me want to watch sfdebris' review of this movie again... I think he had a good argument that its plot was kind of a religious warning against technology, which is a notable take. Remember to oil your robots I guess?

unlabelledView post →If there was an ever a movie that COULD be remade but required everything be done with practical effects, it’s FORBIDDEN PLANET. Not saying I want that. It terrified me as a kid, and honestly still scares me now. For 1956 this movie broke every mold, and even now looks incredible.
