There is also not enough content to make it enjoyable and replayable, there aren’t any interesting combos that can cause the game to go crazy and change, and there isn’t any real customization to speak of in terms of skills or upgrades. 🌟 Overall 🌟 👍 Pros 👍 Unique premise 👎 Cons 👎 Repetitive gameplay Disappointing upgrades…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At start it seemed to me like an ordinary boring roguelike, first 40 minutes was monotonous and grindy. I noted music (track of the first location actually) and good visual style. The game revealed itself after i beat first boss (which is actually not so spectacular from point of experience and gameplay) but then you got access to new areas with a new style and challenges. Suddenly the game gains its true colors and shine - fun, variable and challenging, as a good roguelike should be. I find…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't often buy Early Access game, but I had a chance to try HyperParasite in London at Rezzed the last weekend, and yes, i had to buy it. First of all, the game is thousand times more polished that what i do usually expect from EA games. I died like 20 times before the tutorial was over, but that is only pushing me to play more. The devs at the booth were awesome and friendly, it's refreshing to meet people that funnel such a passion in their work. I am gonna play a lot more before adding…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I generally despise every game I play and have to be won over. It's unreasonable and surely a flaw but I'm aware of it and try and take it into account. There's not many games I've decided I loved more quickly than Hyperparasite. I've got a really soft spot for "possession" in games, Paradroid, Droid Assault, Silicon Valley, Messiah, Socketeer, so I was already pretty receptive and I LOVE twin stick shooters, so that was another layer of black scales knocked off my stone heart. The final…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like Binding of Isaac or Enter the Gungeon? Then I have something to tell you - come closer, let me whisper in your ear... HyperParasite, my friend. HyperParasite. The thing is with HyperParasite is that it's incredibly deceptive. On the surface, the fiendishly simple visuals are something akin to games of the PS1 or Dreamcast (Yes, I know - it's intentional). But then the tentacles grab you by the short and curlies and you're hooked. The incredible retro OST, the incredibly sharp…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been following this game since it was first showcased at Milan Games Week back in 2018. All I can say is...WOW. The game was very different back then, now it feels and play really smooth and polished for an Early Access game. I'm a sucker for everything 80s, and this game has it all: tons of cameos/references/quotes from 80s movies, cartoons and games, a very cool synthwave OST and a great atmosphere. It can be HARD at the beginning, but believe me, give it some time and you will unlock new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid twin stick shooter. A bit slow if youre more used to games like Gungeon. Easy to get in to and develop your base of characters. My main complaint after about 6 hours of gameplay is the lack of video and controller options. Graphics options are limited to Low or High and you cant adjust your look sensitivity. Oh! And the descriptions are too small. Its fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had a blast playing this game! You are an alien parasite chased by the humans and you have only 1 HP! One hit, you die and repeat: it doesn't get more rogue than this. So you can absorb your enemies, use their abilities and weapons to unlock all of them run after run. There are many references to the 80s: characters, neons, appearance and soundtrack. Strongly recommended, also in co-op.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best arcade rougelikes I've ever played. As an microscope hobbyist I love games where you can play as an amoeboid creature and this game does not let you down. The parasite itself is no push over when outside a host, and I particularly like that when you reach new areas it feels like you have to gain a foot hold on the inhabitants. The enemies are awesome as well and as you encounter new ones often time you think wow I really want to be able to control that guy, especially with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game. The idea of infiltrating bodies is fun. The controls are good. The art style fits the theme. For an Early Access titel quite polished. If you like Twin-Stick shooters and roguelike games, this is for you. Looking forward for more content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't stop playing it and I have real life commitments I should be attending to.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite is a really good indie rogue-lite, IMO it's very, very underated and needs more attention ! Nice retro graphics, good gameplay loop and sexy synthwave soundtrack. The game deliver great procedurally generated levels, tons of upgrades and many different characters to unlock. Exterminate humanity become the HyperParasite ! My only complaint is that the game is locked at 60fps while the devs stated they will provide an update to unlock the framerate. Still waiting for that update…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite is a long, dense, entertaining and interesting roguelike full of curiosities and content. Troglobytes's title offers a peculiar gameplay that, in the end, greatly enrich the whole work. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Throbbing synthwave music sets the backdrop for a really fun twin-stick shooter. Take control of random people and then kill everything. Bright and colorful, straight out of the 80s, Hyper Parasite is a blessing. Buy it! https://youtu.be/13uE0nmQJgU
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm really enjoying the hilarious mood of the game. It's the kind of game that makes you come back to it, i'm looking forward for the final release. By the way the shopping cart man kick ass!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing twin-stick with a twist. Hard as nails, sweet tight game-play, gritty but great graphics, and a great sountrack too. Between this and Tormental this is the season to be a TS fan. Both are still in EA and both already are crazy fun. If you like these types of games get them both.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am just a few hours into this game but I love the art style and the gameplay. Each type of character you take over plays in a unique way and has a unique super move that charges slowly. The music for each full area and the cast of characters to unlock is unique which adds a lot of time and challenge to each zone. For improvements I would love to see more money drop so you have a chance to try the shop items, an increase in drop rate for the enemy brain drops so you can unlock them more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite possibly the best modern rogue-lite on steam Hyperparasite's formula for designing a richly crafted love letter to the 80s certainly doesn't go unnoticed. The entire game itself is filled with cheeky references to 80s pop culture. From the outset, the combat & gameplay loop is what you should expect from a well designed twin stick rogue-lite; tight, fluid controls, procedurally generated level pathways & randomized upgrades that are never the same during your next play thorough.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got an advanced copy from the Devs so just saying that upfront. I really like the game, not too many rogue likes out there that give you as many second chances as this one does. The gameplay is simple, you're a parasite and you are weak so you need to hijack enemy bodies to borrow their powers. You go around room by room wiping out enemies and doing typical rogue like stuff but if your host is killed you go back to being a brittle parasite where you only have one life so you have to quickly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite is one of the best rogue-lites I have played. Playing as multiple characters has never been so satisfying. You are randomly assigned a new body at the start of each run and there isn't one character type where I think "oh damn it". I'm always sceptical of indie games with the "difficult" tag. I've seen that tag thrown onto games with dodgy physics or unresponsive controls. HyperParasite has none of these issues. The game feels very polished and the game is initially hard but also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →High intensity twin stick action with a pumping synth wave soundtrack to help carry that along. Lots of 80's references that will have you saying "ohhh i know what you're doing there ;)" and a body-snatching mechanic that allows for some crazy action and strategy amidst the chaos. If you're a fan of any of the big hitters such as Enter the Gungeon and Binding of Isaac I would highly recommend you get on the HyperParasite train ASAP
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Woah ! What a fresh take in a crowded genre. It is usually hard to come by ideas that turn the a genre over its' head. Hyper Parasite is a fast paced brawler and shooter with an overdose of the '80s and I love outrun and synthwave music and this game has just the right kind of music for me to just turn on my neon signs and groove to the music. Sure, I did encounter some minor bugs but none of them were game braeking, hence the EA release. I hope they release the rest of the game soon. It is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The type of game that encourages different play styles in every run, the body swap mechanic is really fun and there are many characters to try, all of this in an ironic vision of the 80s
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a ton of depth!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite delivers me a lengthy, fun time of entertaining yet challenging gameplay. Plus, it will provide you with the familiar feel of the atmosphere from the 80s with many correlational characters and scenes from this specific time, but you may expect high difficulty and some randomness material from the game that makes me personally feel a bit uncomfortable when playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit frustrating a first when you don't have any characters unlocked, but chasing the unlocks is part of the fun. The gunplay is varied since you are constantly switching bodies, from melee characters that jump around to a shotgun to some massive boomerang, it's always about making the best of what you get.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good concept but definitely not enough content and the playtime is made up by ridiculous grinding. Most times you get to the shop it feels like the special item is the same amount of gold as all the money on the map after youve gone through and destroyed everything. Everytime you get to a new area you just die cause you can't unlock the characters on the map, and it takes about 10 games to be able to do anything in the level Game crashes like nobodys business, i'm done with this game until it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great concept presented with awesome pixel art and a fun 80's style soundtrack. Quite challenging, as the game itself will tell you, but the controls are solid - responsive and easy to grasp. It's got that 'die-quick-learn-quick' feel akin to something like Miami Hotline, except this one has a fun dodge mechanic that's quite fun to put to use. Looking out for hosts to invade for new movesets is just great. It's like violent rogue-like Kirby. ...Also, the animation when you make your hosts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The work here is great and really is one of the best roguelikes out there. You'll love the idea of possessing enemies to take advantage of their skills. Anytime this happens a shot of adrenaline will possess you changing the urgency of the run. The soundtrack is also sublime taking you straight back to the '80s. One of my favorite things about this game is that I keep coming back to play it simply because of the humor and addictive gameplay. Enemy attacks are great. It's easy to appreciate in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Waking up one hour earlier so that I play it before work (lol, didn't even set the alarm!) loving the "character progression" where I unlock characters to possess
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hyperparasite brings back a good old feeling from the 80's mixing it up with interesting gimmicks in storytelling and gameplay. It's a game that winks at the current line of rogue-like pixel art games without being boring or already-seen-like. Definetely worth the price!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool roguelike twin-stick! The posession twist gives a new feeling to the genre and let's the game stand out from the crowd! Cannot wait to see how it will evolve towards the full release. Keep up the good work!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite Review By, Z-Nation Summary: HyperParasite is a top-down point and shootem up indie game developed by Troglobytes Games. While Troglobytes Games may be new to the party, they bring us a great looking top-down shooter that strives to deliver the gamer an exciting arcade-style game that will bring you in to try your best not to die by the many enemies that will come your way. Being an indie game, HyperParasite gives off a great vibe when it comes to development and the amount of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is actually the perfect game. An easier Enter the Gungeon with a retro 80s style.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny and original. So cool, it brings you back to the good old 80's.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty sweet. Crunchy and fluid, you play a slime who slurps into people and gives the rest of them a lickin'. There's actually quite a bit of content, lots of different enemies to kill or possess and zones to explore. Small objection though: while there's plenty of diversity in terms of the characters you can play as, when you fight thos same characters they feel pretty similar, where they all telegraph an attack and then expect you to get out of the way in more or less the same way. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite is a very solid and exquisite looking roguelite (or action roguelike). It differentiates itself from the horde of Binding of Isaac wannabees thanks to a novel mechanic that allows you to possess enemies: you play as a body-snatching alien parasite and while you can also deal damage in that form you're very vulnerable, this means that your main way of survival is jumping from one host to another while learning how all the different enemies work. The low-fi presentation complements…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't had the chance to play very long yet, I just made it to the first boss and then died horribly. Even from the small amount of time played, i can tell that this game is quite challenging and a lot of fun. The ability of taking possession of different type of characters keeps the gameplay very fresh and fun on each run. Overall for being in Early Access, Hyper Parasite is already extremely polished and great to play, and the asking price is quite low for what you get.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing! It's a really fun experience that is super difficult. The controls are a bit odd to get used to but the overall experience is fun and refreshing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple and fun. Good game to play when a friend comes over with a six-pack.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fast, brutal and innovative (love the idea of changing bodies/abilities)! If you' grew up in the 80's spending a lot of money in arcade games , you can't miss this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried to enjoy this game but I can't. The game is fun, don't get me wrong but the core issue here is that my game has crashed on 6 different occasions now and I'm tired of it. It happened once on the boss of the third map, twice when I possessed a badass miniboss character, etc. Fix your ♥♥♥♥. I regret purchasing this, what's the point of playing if the game crashes and then you reboot it and lost all your gold/possessed dude and start at the beginning again? No checkpoints or nothing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just so great! Only problem is it crash when I face the miniboss. Still recommended it though. Please fix it :'(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The sheer amount of small details put into this game is just amazing! They created the perfect 80s atmosphere with all those cameos and references you find around in the game levels, from movie posters to character classes etc., plus the synthwave OST (even if it's incomplete) is top notch! I'm a huge fan of Enter the Gungeon (a title this game is clearly inspired to), I have several hours of game time on it on PlayStation 4, I really wanted to get this game for PS4 but just couldn't wait. I'm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game- played it for Early Access Launch day. The game is very fun to play. Quirky and colourful. It took a little bit of time for me to understand the mechanics/controls of the game, but its fun to play, and I find it very addictive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Happy to get to try this awesome game in early access, my first thoughts were of the awesome colors and detailed levels until i started moving around! Then I realized how unique the players powers were and the effects! It totally surprised me and upstaged the Incredible cyberpunk look. The game generated different levels when you play, and had extensive tutorials to follow so it was easy to get used to. (skip-able)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only a few hours into the game, but so far it's pretty good. Will have to try local coop soon, but I do wish there was online play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has potential to be very good, at the moment - it's a bit rough around the edges. You play as a slimey parasite - with 0 HP. One hit, and you're dead as a parasite. The game wants you to take over humans though, and they actually have HP. You can collect powerups throughout levels, and they can either give you an extra life for your parasite form ( so when you die,m you come back ) you can increase Attack stats, or Defense stats - and the stats affect both parasite and host body forms,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, it's incredible how packed with stuff this is! I usually don't play many action games, but when I saw this one is set "in the roaring 80s" I couldn't help but give it a shot and I'm really enjoying it so far. Despite being still in Early Access, I see that the devs will add up to 60 (?!) different character classes, this is just plain crazy. It's also really, really hard, but in a good way! Can't wait to see where they take this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Difficult in unfun ways, even with the "everything is unlocked" mode. The concept of taking over enemies is great, but in practice as a naked blob you are so incredibly weak that it's almost never worth the risk to leave a body to try to grab a new one without getting killed. The "how it's meant to be played" mode is particularly infuriating because when you enter a new area you have no bodies unlocked so you can't even take over anyone, and as your unlocks progress it is not clear which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HyperParasite handles its core mechanic pretty well: the parasite is capable enough but extremely fragile, and the body-snatching gameplay is awesome when you've got (most) every host in a level unlocked. However, this makes progression really frustrating because, as far as I can tell, no host bodies are shared between levels. So, as is generally the case in a roguelike, you'll throw yourself against the wall time and time again learning the mechanics and perfecting your skills, finally moving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thats a refund for me. The whole game is about dodging bullets, smashing trash cans for money, and collecting brains to give to some strange shopowner who wants to help you take over the world for some reason. I also don't know why an alien set on destroying the world needs money, but whatever. Not donna lie. I felt like i wanted to keep playing to figure out if there was anything else to the game. But it felt very shallow, and low on content. And i don't think the game has anything other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's ironic that one of the game modes is 'wrong millenium' as this game itself suffers a little of that. As an 80's-style arcade beat-'em-up it's a lot of fun. The kind that you could easily drop a few quarters into. As a rogue-like however the systems just don't gel that well. The meta progression feels both necessary for the central mind-control mechanic of the game, yet unrewarding. as by the time hosts are unlocked you've beaten them dozens of times already so their attacks have lost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grind is mandatory if you want to play the game. As soon as you enter a new area if you lose your possessed host, it's pretty much game over unless you were somehow able to unlock enough new hosts in the new area before your host died (which is impossible since the option to unlock hosts is RNG so you'll have 1 unlocked host IF YOU ARE LUCKY). Each area has its own hosts so it doesn't matter how much you grind one area, you start from scratch in the next one. There should be at least 2 default…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since 2019 the release date of this game, me and my brother loved playing it but the game always crashed by the boss in Act 3 with the background that has the clock. We replayed the game a dozen of times hoping the crash was finally fixed all the way to 2022. Finally on the 26 April 2022, I decided to purchase the game on steam and boom. The game is not crashing anymore and even has our save data. Thank you to the developers for making this game. It's really one of the best multiplayer rogue…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The system where you can't use the game's fundamental gameplay mechanics on Act 2+ (without significant grind) is absurd.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super glad I forked out for a high quality controller for my PC because damn there are some top-notch twinstick games coming out lately. Right now I'm hooked on HyperParasite. It's a progressive roguelike set on 80s Earth, and you play as the bad guy. Loving it. Awesome progressive twinstick brawler. Switching characters instead of weapons while facing a diverse range of enemies in random environments makes Hyper highly replayable. Challenging and addictive. For more niche curation, follow me…
