60 of 186 · most liked firstIntroduction It’s really been a while since I last wrote a negative review. Not because I couldn’t find dozens, if not hundreds of poor examples from my own Steam collection, but for a reason that is far more simple. I outright refuse to write about most games I deem as detrimental to my patience/spare time/overall mood. Sadly, my gut feeling does fail from time to time and I end up with a “masterpiece” such as the game I’m writing about today. Where to begin? Home Behind looks, controls and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A few reviews warned me that this was essentially a mobile game on PC. I am usually a pretty forgiving person when it comes to simple games ... and the unlocks in this game appealed to me quite a bit and won me over enough to give it a shot. This is the first game I have ever refunded on Steam. You walk ... and sometimes hit a button. There's so little gameplay or even interactions that make a whole lot of sense ... there's just not a lot here. Also, yeah, it's not been fully translated. And…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DON'T BE FOOL BY THE SCREENSHOTS AND REVIEWS - This game is not about base/village/town management AT ALL - Even more RNG than World of Warcraft - See that cutscene in the game trailer? That's the only picture you'll ever get - Too drag on and very repetitve more than a certain manga about pirate.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looked promising for something so inexpensive. The experience was a mixed bag. It's an unsophisticated survival side-scroller about a man separated from his young daughter during a civil war and trying to re-unite with her on a walking journey to Europe taken by other fleeing refugees. Right out of the gate, the game lacks polish. It's an import from China, but there's still a lot of text without full translations for English-speaking audiences. It doesn't make the game unplayable,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's not much in the game. It's more like a prototype than even an alpha version of a real game. These pictures of the game show all of the things you can do in the game. Overall, it's very boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: -Addictive gameplay. Cons: -Poorly translated (some sections are STILL in Chinese). -The replayability from "Randomly Generated" just means you'll encounter the exact. Same. Encounters. But MAYBE a little later or a little sooner. Meh/Opinions: -Ending made me not want to play again. -Resources are inconsistant. If the crate only gave wood or metal, instead of something from every loot-pool... -Using anything but the auto-fight feature (which can be found in the options/esc menu) is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My character appeared and began to walk through the desert. He could only go forward. He continued on in a straight line, and I clicked to pick up grass and pebbles as he went. This was all I could do, other than make him rest, or choose between having him stop, walk, or run. Then, very quickly, the game began to throw random events into the mix. Something would appear in the path ahead, and it would be unavoidable. Mostly, "random events" meant encountering aggro, lone wolf cubs. At first, I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Judging by the company’s namesake, I’m convinced TPP actually stands for “The Phantom Pain” and this little gem was their attempt to mimic the plot twists and thematic complexity of aforementioned game. Well, they failed. They failed spectacularly. Rushed editing, untranslated speech bubbles, punctuation chaos, and misspellings gave way to oddly hilarious scenes where you’re watching Chinese dialogue escape the lips of generic Muslim terrorists and you’re just like… what did I sign up for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jesus Christ. What are you people playing nowadays that you find this game good? Its a bad written game, made for phones. Its NOT a PC game at all. Gameplay is repetitive. Counter intuitive. Lazy. HOW ON EARTH there are still chinese words on it, 4 years after its release, is beyond my recognition. Its boring. Its graphics are poor made. Game isn't finished yet. And the gameplay is repetitive. Keep it out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First, a warning to anyone who does get this game: Watch your stat numbers. On more than one occasion, I have noted that they will seemingly drop for no reason. If one invests the starting stat points before the first battle of the game, they seem to disappear immediately after that battle. This is the most common time I have observed this, but I have seen it at other times as well. This game is horribly unbalanced to a great degree of luck. _If_ a playthrough has a decent balance of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played all kinds of survival games. (Long Dark, Don't starve,Sheltered,The Forest,Project Zomboid,Stranded,7 Days to Die,...)THIS IS NOT A SURVIVAL GAME. This is a walking simulator. A BAD walking simulator. Watch the trailer that's the whole game. Nothing more. I only played 30min but EVEN IN 30 MIN it got so boring and repetetive. So as a HUGE survival games fan I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone to buy this walking simulator. If you like walking simulators, go ahead this is the perfect game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very boring, weird crafting system and survival mechanics. Battle is even worse, just click and click and hope for the best.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't like this. As other reviewers said, you are basically walking through a landscape, clicking on stuff. Sometimes you can collect things, sometimes you 'fight', basically the same thing happens over and over again and it gets veeery boring. I got a refund. Edited to add- The english is also terrible in places.. to the point that someone asks you a question and you can understand neither the question or the answer options you are given... LOL
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It would be a great casual game, but this is not a game of not so much skill but luck. The game seems 80% luck and 20% skill. It seems like every trade is useless or unbalanced; never items I really need. I seem to lose either I can't upgrade because the items I need never seem to become available or I run out of water because there is never the opportunity to refill. This isn't a casino game so luck should not have such a big aspect to advance. This is a major fundamental problem of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Numerous issues with translation and feels like propoganda at times.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible game, how on earth was the review positive?? Was it spammed? Lets get to the point: 1. This belongs to a phone game. Period 2. There is nothing to do. See point 1. 3. The interface still has chinese left in it, bad translation. And I AM chinese 4. combat is extremely buggy 5. Side scroll, repetitive boring. see point 1 PLEASE DO NOT BUY
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly repetitive and linear. Dialogue has tons of grammar mistakes. Randomly - things are not even written in English but in another language that has nothing to do with the plot. Not a lot of gameplay variety.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand how they made such a good game so cheap! You must have it and experience it. If you like survival games, you should definitely get it. It's almost free if you buy it at a discount. :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please do not buy this game, it is for mobile phones, not for PC! The developers of the game are moral freaks, I played 5 hours to open this class. I got to level 15, and died because there was no food, but the class in the game did not open. How to do this without spending another 5 hours, because the developers just decided to play a joke on the players. The developers are ignoring the forum post. I am very angry with these moral freaks, because I lost 5 hours of time because of their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While it was fun to go along and try to survive, the rest of the game I didn't have so much fun with. Even though I chose English, parts of the game were in what I believe to have been Chinese, which I cannot understand. Some if not most of the game mechanics are not explained at all. The combat is a bit boring and I couldn't follow the storyline in the beginning too well because the text went by too fast. Great idea for a game but it still needs work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried Home Behind 2 (HB 2) Demo before deciding to purchase HB 1. Good. Gaming. God. What the ♥♥♥♥ did i just went through. The concept of the product is really good. Strong RPG elements. The execution? Not so good. Some poor design choices will ruin your gaming experience. Limited scavenging options. Limited trading options with NPC. No auto save file option. Constantly have to save (like a maniac) manually using the mouse. No hot keys to bind. Why do we have to save…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished on normal, hate the ending. Altough it looks promising, the luck involved is to much really. Another thing, the original is chinese and not everything is translated yet. Stay away from this one for now untill the issues are fixed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Home Behind's story sounds semi interesting, but gameplay falls way short and kills it. Repetitive, unbalanced and just plain boring in all aspects. Bad game design, bad translation, and terrible combat system that feels like something you would play in your browser. The animations and mechanics remind me of browser/mobile games. The game has permadeath, so if you die you start from the beginning with the same areas, same enemies, same everything, restarting everything from scratch. Oh controls…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Home Behind Review A little side scroller based on the struggles of war awaits. Some key points that this game offers: 1. A unique look at how war can displace people. 2. Several different jobs to choose from for your playthroughs. 3. Basic but efficient levelling system. 4. A variety of items that can be picked up and obtained and an even bigger crafting tree to make use of on your journey. 5. Several different difficulties to test your survival skills. 6. Indie Gem 4/5 Gameplay &…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely repetitive game. After you understand the basics of the game, your success on a playthrough comes down to random chance. Some people might like games that dont involve skill, but I'm not one of them. I wouldn't recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though it shows I've only played for 30 minutes that's truly all I needed to find this game just wasn't the one for me. It was constant running in one line, which was fine at first but over time I simply got bored. I kept thinking, "Surely that isn't how this game is done right?" But it was. For those of you that enjoy that kind of game go right ahead, it just isn't my cup of tea. I didn't understand the point of the linear gamestyle other than laziness and the mechanisms of the game really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not worth it. Watch someone's gameplay video on Youtube. See if the gameplay is suit your taste before you make your decision.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In "home behind" you play a father who lost his daughter while their home was attacked by the rebel armies. Promising himself he would find his daughter who has probably escaped together with his brother, the protagonist begins his journey. On the way he has to steal food, have an eye on his water reserves, fight enemies and therefore upgrade his weapon and armor. To start from the positive, the game has a good crafting system. It is not phenomenal and does not give the crafting subject really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very interesting game at first, but then you kind of figure out most of your run is going to have to deal with luck. I started to replay since it first came out with broken english subs and it seems they have added a little bit more. I really enjoy games like these, but the fact that there is more luck than there is planning or how you go about combat really turns me off. The past 6 times i've tried, I have died to going at least 30% of a stage without a single place for water 4 times. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watch some videos before buying, as this is a bit of an odd gamestyle. It is like a crafting-FTL game with legacy unlocks. Wish there was a demo for people to try it out. I am still on the fence about this game, but so far, I am pretty much enjoying the process of figuring it out. The instructions are very limited, and some of the non-essential text is still untranslated. However, there is enough in the steam forums to play the game. The game seems repetitive and random in places ("really? I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The design of this game is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥, it doesnt even worth the price. The way and places to get the resourses dont make sense at all. i can understand the game making team was trying to make the game hard to show how difficult the journey is but theres toiletssssss in housing in desert but not even one toilet in the second map, a big modern city? seriously? No any bottled water and drinks can be found are weird enough already, and i cant drink the rain, and was not even able to find toilet…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It may be good for mobile phone but not for PC it feels like a clicker game. I don't know - just not my type of game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOT WORTH BUYING! This game is really disappointing! The first runs are fun, as long as you don’t know what to do, than the repetitive actions take overhand and the game is only annoying. The sounds are very fast, very annoying and the balancing of items are to worst to make it a good game. All you do is senseless push the same buttons again and again, to meet the same repetitive actions that you already found in around the first 30mins. If you really lucky and you can finish a full run, you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't really like this game. It's not particularly horrible, but it was not quite what I was hoping for. I really wanted a game with an emphasis on crafting, but I didn't really get that. This game is pretty repetitive with your actions. Run, walk, pick up, run, walk, pick up, search, attack, talk, search, break in. It would be nice if you could choose what you say or at least if there was more to it visually. When you succeed at something there is nothing to really show that you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I came expecting a pretty generic survival game but found myself unable to stop playing until I was finished. Pros: - Fun gameplay - Interesting story - Finding materials to craft is challenging but rewarding - Surprisingly long for a $5 game - Beating the game unlocks new classes, encouraging replays Cons: - Combat gets repetitve - Dialogue can be lengthy at times - Still relatively short despite being longer than I expected. - Sometimes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simplistic and boring. Like a fleshed out browser game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even though this game looks nice and the soundtrack doesn't seem bad as well, but the overall feeling you get simply is: "This should be a smartphone- or flash-game"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat idea but an absolute chore to play, and very buggy. I was awarded the 'beat the game' achievement when i first loaded the game, and this bug has existed since 2020 (if not earlier, per the forum here).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really do not recommend this game. Gameplay is boring, repetitive point&click, with limited options. Better games for free on websites, such as Kongregate.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very repetitive and after finishing the game you don't have any reason to play. Because of that achievements are annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no clue how this has "Very Positive" review status. It's boring, buggy, and annoying to play. Stay away. Seems to me like there is something fishy going on here as far as fake reviews (search game online and you will see it is junk)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well I like it quite a bit, it's like a more modern version of Oregon Trail. But holy hell do i hate the music. it has got to go. Bluegrass jamboree while fighting...no thanks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →mediocre translation, incredibly simple gameplay with a lack of any sort of depth. It feels like a C- flash game than any finished product
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't even played this game for a total of 2 hours and I'm over it. I really wanted to like this game. It seemed really interesting and I liked the look and feel of it, but it was just ubearably frustrating. First of all the background story text in the beginning goes so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast I stopped trying to read it after the first 2 sentences. I also noticed the random Chinese language bug on a couple of the text blurbs throughout the game - which I just passed off as a game quirk as you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is good enough, nothing stellar, but there is one thing keeping me from really liking this game. So you're a refugee navigating a harsh landscape to get to your brother and daughter, begging for food, fighting off wolves and raiders while music from a late 90's snowboarding game main menu plays. It's so out of place it's laughable. It completely takes me out of the game and there's no music slider so it's either all sound or no sound. I don't know how much time I'm going to be able…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The translation is missing at some parts, and the game gets too repetitive after a point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For someone that always rely on reviews to buy new games, I never felt more cheated than by the positive reviews that this game has. This game is awful, but further than that it has a (((not))) vague political commentary. IN the first 5 minutes I was punched in the face by a random letter talking about a political crises in a very biased way. Not only that, the game play is boring and not engaging at all. I never write reviews, but this one cross the limits of what I consider ♥♥♥♥. Stay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Home Behind is a pretty fun game where you craft, scavenge, fight and move forward to survive. Although the story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and text can be a bit wordy, it is satisfying to get to the end. There are some translation issues here and there, but nothing game breaking. The survival element comes down to both luck and careful planning. It's not an RNGesus game, thankfully. I think this is worth a couple play throughs and 8-12 hours of gameplay, maybe more if you like this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good game but not for everyone, so a few negative points: First the game is a bit repetitive and if feel like it's not worth the 6$ price tag, so pick it up on sale. Second the game is really hard after 8 hours of play I made it to 70% of the end game on one run, doesn't bother but it's good to know Now for the positive points: The story is pretty good and can make you think about current event a bit differently I kinda like the crafting system even if it gets a bit crowded toward the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If there's anyone from the developer team reading this -- WHAT THE F$#@$?:? I'm not allowed to turn off hardcore mode. Can't save.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Home Behind is a gripping and emotionally charged tactical RPG that delves deep into the human cost of war and displacement. Developed by Winking Entertainment, this game offers a unique narrative experience that goes beyond typical combat mechanics to explore themes of survival, loss, and hope amidst the chaos of conflict. Set against the backdrop of a civil war-torn country, Home Behind challenges players to manage a group of refugees struggling to find safety, resources, and purpose, making…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where to begin Poorly translated, and lots of parts aren't even translated at all. But that I could overlook if the gameplay was redeeming at all. Spoiler, it is not. This is seemingly a good concept with poor execution. Full of bugs and glitches, many of which I have experienced are either game-breaking or severely hindering. I got this on sale for 2.50 and still don't think it's worth spending that much on it. This would barely be acceptable for a mobile game, let alone a steam game that's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has some translation issues and a lack of progressive learning. The screenshots and description made this game very appealing but it didn't deliver.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lovely idea, but it's poorly implemented and there's little replay value. *Spoiler alert* Thematically, this is basically CCP anti-separatist propaganda: your MC is trying to reunite with his daughter whilst fleeing a rebel group comprised exclusively of homicidal maniacs, cannibals, suicide bombers, and conscripted child soldiers. Central government good; other guys very, very bad. Got it. It's a little heavy-handed at times, but personally, I can look past all that; I'm more interested in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth it for most people. If you didn't get excited about what you saw in the description and the screenshots, don't buy it. My main problems with it: 1) The game is about getting the odds in your favor, pretty similar in the way Xcom is, you make a lot of decision about what gets the best percentages but bad luck could theoretically ruin you no matter what you do. The problem is that when things go bad in Xcom, you can still bail out and get to another mission. Here, you lose all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, if you want to play a crappy version of Sheltered you can buy it, but I don't recommend, even in the bazillion crappy survival games in steam, this game might be one of the worst ones. Do not buy it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi there and welcome to our game where everything is dependant on your mood level but if you do anything (which is all based on chance) aand mess up your mood goes down. For some things even when you succeed it goes down. Best lesson learned while playing: booze is the answer to everything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is okay, feels more of a smartphone type of game and the fighting is god awful boring. The story/beginning doesn't make much sense, you wake up with a crow taking your arm off but it was a dream and everything is fine? Big blank space and all of a sudden your giving your family the bird and taking off because of the rebel attack then the game starts. There are also MANY parts of the game that are still un-translated. 3/10 - Could be better but its crap right now
