I really wanted to be able to recommend this game due to its mixed reviews. Heileen falls short of other romance based Visual Novels. It does not really have a large amount of character development, and none of those sweet sentimental touching moments, that I have come to love from games of this genre. On my first play though, I barely spoke to the person I ended up with, and my character showed no really inkling that she liked him, nor did he to her. In fact, he seemed like an awful…

This interactive novel was a truly lackluster effort in my opinion. It came as part of a bundle I bought, and for this I am glad, because if I had actually spent a few bucks for this game by itself, I would have been pretty upset with the content. The writing is pretty terrible, the voice acting is mediocre, and the story is completely lacking, and often doesn't make any sense. For example, there are a pair of stowaway escaped slaves hiding in a room at the bottom of the ship. Somehow, nobody…

This was the first visual novel I've ever played. I was interested by the description of it, but to be perfectly honest, the main "sell point" for me was the possibility of f/f romance. What I remembered about this game? That it was disappointing, that I ended up with a character I wasn't interested in the slightest for some unknown reason and that, at some point, I started skipping huge parts of dialogue, because the story wasn't engaging in the slightest. I decided to replay it now and I…

This first visual novel release on Steam by Winter Wolves (Celso Riva) feature a female protagonist Heileen who is brought on a trip to sail to the New World by her uncle Otto. While on board the ship, Heileen will get to meet and interact with John, Marie, Lora, Otto and other minor characters. Achievements involve reaching a special romance ending with John, a sailor working on the ship, Heileen's childhood best friend Marie or with Heileen's aunt Lora. The game has plenty of save slots to…

I'm not a huge fan of the genre, so keep that in mind when reading my review. I've done a few of these visual novels, but this was only my second completed 'otome' style novel, if Shan Gui can be considered otome. I've seen alot of feedback about how this is the least popular and detailed of the Heileen series, and I am hopeful that this is the case. I found the game to have all the plot of an adult movie without almost any of the parts of an adult movie that get people to watch. Not that…

I clicked 'Yes' to recommend, but in truth, I only recommend as an introduction to the characters for the 2nd and 3rd entries in this series. Heileen 1 is short, with limited input and very brief, shallow storyline. The endings are easy to get, and it is an easy game to get 100% on with only 3 achievements. It does contradict the second novel (the ending of this one, to the start of the 2nd) - so do play with the knowledge that they don't seamlessly merge together into one story. I've…

Oh Heileen... This first installment in Heileen's adventures is pretty cut and dry. You play a rather generic main character with rather generic romantic options and a generic story to follow. This game is very middle of the road all around. No voice acting, rather bland music and decent enough artwork, at first it might not even catch your eye at all. To me what made it worth playing was the romantic path with Marie, your childhood best friend. It seemed to have the most depth story wise and…

This is the first installment in a three part series, I quite enjoyed playing each one and hope the rest of the series makes it to steam. Its a very simple yet fun visual novel, well worth getting. I already had the game before it made it to steam but plan to unlock the achievements for it. Art is very nice and story gives a small taste of the ones to come.

This is the first Heileen game I’ve ever played, meaning I have no references about the other two games. If you want a quick experience with this early Winter Wolves game, I guess it’s worth a try (but only on sale — ain’t worth paying the full price to be totally honest). The story is dull, predictable; the main character, at least on this first game, feels empty and rather annoying since it seems that all that matters to her are how good looking some people are. I found that simply…

I only started playing this for the achievements Then I ended up forcing myself to finish this just to 100% it which ended up being cumbersome. I can't recommend this game as it's actually the most boring story in a visual novel that I've ever played. 4/10 [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45905648-Gork%2527s-Game-Grind/]Check out my curated list of games

Honestly, the game is quite mediocre. However, some enjoyment can be had. The three possible romantic relationships have a quirky cuteness to them. (Kudos for the same-sex options.) But if you're looking for a deep story, you'll be disappointed with this. The game is definitely shallow when it comes to writing style and depth. I wasn't a fan of the art work; it was a bit amateur-ish. The game is also way too short. I got through all the endings in a few hours. I wouldn't say I hated the game,…

An early Winter Wolves visual novel with 3 romance options (2 female + 1 male), an ok story with some mystery thrown in and decent characters (however this may be acquired taste, as always - personally, I'm not fond of John, who appears to be "default" game romance). There is no trace of hentai there, although there are some mildly suggestive scenes that may not be appropriate for younger audience. The main flaw is game length - I managed to complete all 3 patches in just below 2 hours. It's…

Out of the few Winter Wolves games I've played, this is probably the best one, which isn't saying much. It's a very simple visual novel, especially compared to its sequels, but it's easy to complete. The story and characters are generic romance visual novel standard fare and it's really not worth playing.

A Love Story, going interactive... Visual Novels, not to be confused with Interactive Novels, are kind of a no go genre for me. Still I do have some of them on my account. And I am always disgusted about how careless and without any compassion those stories are often told. Heileen is no excetption to this. Sure it's nice to play, somehow cute... But... Well... This is one of WInterWolves earlier games, and the newer games are definately better. The game is a pure visual novel/dating sim/ You play as an 18 year old girl named Heileen, who is going on a journey from England to the New World with her uncle, Otto, her uncle's mistress, Lora, her best friend, Marie, and the crew on the ship. By the end of the game you can end up with a sailor named John, Marie or Lora. The game is pretty short and the three achievements are easy to get. For the price, you…

If they was a option for 'neutral' then I would have chosen that. The story is about 2-3+ hours. In that time, I played through the whole game. The relationships are rushed and sometimes for me, out of the blue. Specially that the MC "Heileen", seems to dislike at least 2 of them. Heileen is just 18 year old girl, that really seem to dislike man. And in this game it's not hard to. The male characters are rude and sexist to say the least. But Heileen seems to have dislike them before going on…

This is an interesting little visual novella. Based on the date of release and the price, I suspect this may be one of (if not the) first releases from Winter Wolves. As such, you can see a lot of... issues that they figured out as they got more experience. So while the weakest of their efforts, it is still interesting to see how far they've come. There are three paths in this game, plus 40 side quests. This is a good introduction to many of the characters in the trilogy. So, I shall recommend…

The dialogues are so bad and awkward (looks like someone with problems or in a delirium would write), quite every character is a joke, the art is pretty bad, the only thing that could rescue it´s his soundtrack and I never listen something that good while playing. A short and nice VN, although I didn't get hooked on the graphic style. It is possible for Heileen to romanticize a guy (John) or two girls (Lora or Marie). As each ending gives one achievement, and there are 3 achievements in all, it's a simple game to do to get the 100%. Recommended.

This game may be too simple but before playing other two games of this serie, you must play this one for the plot. This serie was my travel-time fun and it was a good choice for that time. Forget it. I really love visual novels made in Japan. Not only there are tons of them, but there are games for everyone, with many interesting stories, themes and styles. That doesn't mean I play only them, no. I really love to try anything from this genre. Since there is really nice choice in those on Steam, mostly made by people from other countries, I would gladly get those and play them all. Do Not Buy This Game! There are few things that are truly awful. This is one of them. It's a mockery of a historical novel, and not even an entertaining one. The anachronisms bounce between stupid and annoying. Also weirdly racially insensitive, as somehow returning the slaves that were saved from slavery to slavery is a good thing? They'll be safer there? I ... I don't even know ... As for the romances, they're run of the mill to get the basic guy or best friend ending, and weird to get…

I got the game cause it was on sale and the story really just seemed sort of flat. It felt like the writing was all over the place - half the scenes were so random and didn't even make sense tbh. Like they were thrown in as a filler or something. And many of the characters were just plain annoying. I like other Winter Wolves games, but Heileen falls way short of their better quality games and I don't think I'll be buying either of the sequels anytime soon.

A short story of an 18 year old girl who decides to go on a boat trip with her uncle to 'the new world'. On her journey she has to make different decisions and depending on your decisions there will be different endings and relationships. This is one of these casual 'girl' games with a very uninteresting short story. The only reason I played this game is because it was in a bundle and to get the achievements.
