Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina
Developer Targem Games
Hard Truck: Apocalypse, known in Europe as Ex Machina, is a vehicular combat post-apocalyptic science fiction video game developed by Russian game developer Targem Games. It is part of the Hard Truck series. It is a Privateer-like game based around vehicles instead of spaceships, set in a post-apocalyptic Europe. The player controls an armored truck and roams between settlements trading with locals, completing… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an old gem from the 2000s set in a Mad Max like world, where you've gotta equip the best guns and armors to fight bandits and discover the truth about your lost father. Technically speaking, it's not great: music is repetitive and the graphics are really basic. The plot is quite original and I liked it, despite a very disappointing ending... Anyway, there is a teensy, little problem: THE STEAM VERSION WAS VERY POORLY MADE AND WILL OFTEN CRASH while the game is launching or while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game. I played it in 2006 and had a blast. Bought it again for nostalgia but unfortunately it is very buggy with modern systems. Biggest problem is that the savefiles get bugged and can not be loaded after 1-2 days worth of progress. Which breaks the game and after so long for a small studio, devs look like of course they even lost the game files. So no fixes.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/5 This is one of the first games I owned physically. I've beaten it a ton of times, so I decided to replay this for the nostalgia. Everything about Hard Truck Apocalypse is so simple. The story is simple, the mechanics are simple, the graphics were nothing special for it's time - yet it always hit the vibe I couldn't forget. It kind of feels like playing Fallout, just with trucks. You're always roaming and exploring this apocalyptic wasteland, discovering communes, making both friends and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is another 13 out of 10. Runs in 4k. Especially since in 20 years we have no such masterpiece yet available - and its $1 per FULL COLLECTION! Yes someone might say - predictible plotline, insane mode make your progress very slow. Go grow a pair ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! Here is a hint for 4k - you start the game and make all option settings. THen exit game and go to game directory - find .cfg file there. It it you can see DEFAULT 1024 and 768 metrics - shange them to 3840 and 2160…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With "Community patch & remaster" it's a great game again, fully playable on modern systems with widescreen support and improved graphics. Check "/DeusExMachinaTeam/EM-CommunityPatch/releases" on GitHub.com or "Deus Ex Machina" discord.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina is a peculiar and ambitious blend of vehicular combat, trading simulation, and post-apocalyptic adventure—a combination that, even today, feels distinctive. Targem Games built a world that sits somewhere between Mad Max and a road-bound RPG, where the highways of a ruined Europe become both battlefield and lifeline. From the outset, the game introduces a sense of isolation: small settlements dot the map, each clinging to survival, while the wasteland between…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really fun, but without community remaster it's worthless and doesn't even work. I will recommend it as a stimulus to developers to patch this game properly. It deserves it despite being old.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My gambling addict friend said if I post a review and it gets 350 likes and 50 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer, some vodka and 1 kg of lemon So im just gonna leave this here. Мой друг-игроман сказал, что если я опубликую отзыв и он наберет 350 лайков и 50 наград, он купит мне ящик пива, немного водки и 1 кг лимона, так что я просто оставлю это здесь.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game from childhood. HTA takes place long forward in time, after some kind of Cataklysm, all people need to wear masks due to toxic air (sneaky move to not make faces, right?), and as we can read in notebook even snowflakes are deadly since every single one of them can freeze most of things. Trucks became the new character - they are houses, familiars and most importanly weapons ===================================================== Even though it's from 2005 we get: >Half open…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saving and loading doesn't work in the late game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great gameplay when it works. Enemies scale which makes getting anything better pointless. More importantly, the game has unpatched bugs and crashes. It's not worth it to by only to have all these issues. Given the game has linear/story progression it makes it painful for it to crash out and then have to start the long arse quest/battles all over again. "Hard Truck: A Lemon" because the game keeps breaking down, is a more befitting title.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: Broken Game! This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game crashes to desktop on Windows 11 if you edit any of the menu settings, and the game textures and polygons continually pop in and out of view, it just doesn't display correctly. The developers are aware of numerous problems with the game but choose deliberately not to fix them. Hard Truck Apocalypse / Ex Machina is an ancient game from 2005. It's a whopping 18 years old…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fun even now. It runs on modern systems, even if it looks a bit dated. It plays like a post-apocalyptic, ground-based Freelancer. You take your starter truck and upgrade it and buy better trucks by defeating enemy trucks and running freight between towns while playing through a story that is better than most modern AAA woke BS these days. The only slightly annoying part is the dialog takes forever. I don't know why, but there are uncomfortably long pauses between different…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved it back then when it came out, love it now because of nostalgia. Just some game breaking bugs I see now can't destroy my love for this weird game. I wish there are more games like this masterpiece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really nice gameplay, but don't buy this game if you can't stand the bug, (corrupt save, unhandled exception when changing map). what a wasted potential. too bad people don't make game like this anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4 HP end of the game, respawning enemies. "guess I'm gonna have to go back to my father's house at level 2"
Go, Crossout и HTA: Rise of Clans не так хороши, как эта игра. Надеюсь, вы сделаете новую версию с более интересной сюжетной линией, большим количеством транспортных средств, лучшей графикой, а также с мультиплеером и одиночной игрой. Но для мультиплеера добавьте игровой процесс, похожий на сюжетный…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard Truck Apocalypse (also known as Ex Machina in Russia and other European countries) is essentially Russian Mad Max. The world was destroyed by nuclear fire, radiation poisons the air, everyone wears masks to survive and you just witnessed your father dying in the burning ruins of your hometown. You drive around the map doing fetch quests, attacking raiders and bandits, tracking down criminals and defending trading caravans. As you progress through the main storyline you get to upgrade your…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredible car combat adventures across mysterious post-apocalyptic Europe full of combat, truck tuning, cargo trading, defense and delivery missions, treasure seeking, and uncovering mysteries of apocalypses causes. Several different plots and endings included depending on player choice during dialogues.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually love old eurojank stuff such as this, but this one was apparently not meant for me. I began a new game and quickly got a feel for the gameplay loop of driving to different towns, fulfilling quests, accompanying caravans, killing the enemy raider vehicles that would spawn nearby occasionally, and was starting to save up a small sum of money from quests and selling cargo, despite needing to spend a few hundred every few minutes to refuel and repair. I was hopeful I'd soon have enough…

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game very much. Strong storyline and very interesting gameplay. True, due to the fact that the game was made in Russia, the translation is bad in some places, but the gameplay covers all other unworthiness/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty cool experience. I really enjoyed playing this game after so many years. I played this game from a CD back in like 2007 or 2008 idk. If you like trucks, rpgs, trading and combat, this is a game for you. The only downside is that it has some bugs from time to time, it tends to crash sometimes also. I had a problem with loading game due to storage file name contaning (x86), I just extracted game files in another folder and named it HTA, from that point I didn't have problems with loading…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All my childhood memories are hidden in this game :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, I've enjoyed this game. It's a product of its time, so the 2005-era graphics are quite dated, it doesn't have a widescreen mode, and some of the controls feel a little awkward. None of those things are bad enough to keep me from playing, and the game's story was enough to get me engaged and keep me that way, so far. Some parts of the game are quite good; it's an open world and there are sometimes multiple ways to solve particular problems. They've made most of the "missions" pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SO boring - the story is uninteresting, your car moves very slow and missions are far away, not enough enemies to have fun. Even on sale for under 1$ i highly don't recommend it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best game ever, after Mafia 1 of course
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →games like these arent made anymore, i wish there are games that is simple yet fun like this. and not focusing that much on graphics, made it available for many devices
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →open world car combat game with a heaping dash of eurojank awesome
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly wish I could put a thumbs in the middle for this game, cause it isn't necessarily a bad game, but it also isn't that great of a game either. Some parts of the game have sort of odd and kind of bad design choices, and I found myself often hitting invisible walls where it felt unnecessary, especially since you're supposed to be able to drive where you want. Combat was fun overall, but I didn't realize that different trucks had different parts in shops(oops), and the economy system…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the ammount of video games made by russians that are just "small indipendent bisness man participating in free market economy"-simulaters is just sad even after the wall fell russians were still day dreaming of beeing poor americans
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a linear story and many bugs on computers with Windows 10. Don't max out the settings because it'll crash (especially anisotropic filtering; you need to change it to trilinear). Enemies respawn in the same area after you leave a town. The maximum resolution is 1600x1200. You can accidentally break missions by doing things out of sequence, so constant quick saves are a must. Overall, the game has a great vibe, but you can tell it's old, and this steam release is not perfect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has alot of potentional to be remade with current gen graphics. The story, somewhat begins much akin to Fable, where you learn about stuff, explore, upgrade and take out enemies. This is obviously a foreign budget title, but has lots of positive elements which will be listed as follows: 1.Great gunplay. Taking out enemies with machineguns and rockets is awesome. so much fun to be had. 2.Good vehicle damage. You get a sense of destruction seeing vehicles implode and dent in real…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game originally back in 2006, and now playing it again it's as good as I remember it. The driving dynamics and the turrets movement is somewhat intuitive. Nothing fancy but easy to control. The story in this game, for me, is very interesting, the story progression has always kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next, and when I failed, I grind hours trading between towns to get that next upgrade that will give me the edge I am looking for in the next…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's old and far from perfect but good considering the age.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just an awesome game, drive a truck load it with guns and battle your way across and amazing world, I'm really surprised it didn't take off, even after all these years it's still a quality game with high replay value.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay This is my childhood game. It is a good game where you upgrade your trucks, equip them with weapons, visit cities and towns in a post-apocalyptic world. As you progress through the main story, you see how ruined the world has become across different regions. Graphics Since the game is old, the graphics look dated. You can fix this somewhat by downloading a community remaster. In its original state, the game does not support HD displays. Audio I love the music in this game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mad Max atmosphere combined with the transport market. Klimat Mad Maxa połączony z rynkiem transportowym.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Utter unplayable trash. After 5 hours of campaign I took a break then decided to continue playing. Guess what? Game crashes when I try to load ANY save. The other 2 (its sequels) crash when I try to START a new game so it's F**KING IMPOSSIBLE to play it at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Straight nostalgia. Fun to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game is a bit repetitive, overall it is decent. The only reason I am leaving a negative review is the fact that it lacks autosave. I got immersed in the game and was playing for a few hours and dies for some stupid reason. So I ended up losing almost all of my gameplay. If you can be sure you will not forget to manually save, then this is a good game to pick up.
