Godland

Drama

In the late 19th century, a young Danish priest travels to a remote part of Iceland to build a church and photograph its people. But the deeper he goes into the unforgiving landscape, the more he strays from his purpose, the mission and morality. From TMDB

Godland (2022) is a movie about how icelanders are inherently evil and deserve their gorgeous barren rocks. My review is that this makes them europe's Colorado

An explorer documenting his journey. PLEASE HELP ME BUILD UP MY BLUESKY FOLLOWERS BY LIKING AND SHARING THIS!! (This was heavily inspired by a film called Godland, which follows a Danish priest in the 19th century, who documents his attempt at spreading the word of God to Iceland.)

First watch: Godland (2022), written and directed by Hlynur Pálmason. Great drama about a Danish pastor sent to a remote region of Iceland to establish a parish, a journey that becomes a game of survival and test of faith. A really immersive, transportive film, enjoyed courtesy of Arte

THE LOVE THAT REMAINS (Hlynur Pálmason, 2025). A much smaller, more personal film than GODLAND, but strangely compelling in its own unique way. A quietly affecting family drama about a marital separation that the husband seems unwilling / unable to accept. (1/3) #FilmSky

The latest film from acclaimed director of GODLAND is a bittersweet, funny, and surprising portrait of a family coming apart at the seams. Anna and Magnus’s marriage is in breakdown: while she longs for a breakthrough in her art career, he sleeps on the trawler where he works as a fisherman.

Last night we watched the Danish movie Godland, set almost entirely in Iceland and with (sparse) dialogue in Danish and Icelandic. Over two hours of it. It was beautiful. Dire. Scenic. Bleak. Amazing. Frustrating. Graphic (animal slaughter). Serene. Extremely weird in places. Would I recommend it? Hard to say, I reckon many wouldn't have made it as far as the church building site before bailing. Most of the movie has no dialogue, it documents the long drawn-out journey with truly astounding…

Gnostics? Leibniz? This is better than a cryptic crossword clue. (I sort of hope it’s easy & I spaced it.

Just watched #Godland, still processing it, which is usually a good sign I liked it. A priest goes to a place, is is twisted and corrupted by the place, then becomes part of the place; the entirety of the film is the juxtaposition of terrible beauty in all its shapes and forms. There is apparently a colonialism aspect to it but I don't understand that Icelandic history well enough to recognize it. #cinemastodon https://www.criterionchannel.com/godland

Godland (2022, d. Palmason) is an excellent, beautiful film - the nature cinematography reminds me of Aguirre, the Wrath of God - in which a priest travels from Denmark to Iceland, taking the land route, to establish a church. The priest is an asshole, and the plot works from there.
