(Why won't PrimeVideo let me take screenshot!) The level of effort wasn't worth it for the photo.

Honestly, 2024 has been slim pickings.

unlabelledView post →Also Pacifiction I caught I 2022 so it made that years list. Don't want anyone to think that film isn't amazing. Everyone should see it. Would be a good lazy Thaksgiving movie actually.
unlabelledView post →almost put Pacifiction in mine, kind of for that shot alone. Plains also amazing. the movie snob in me almost picked The Works and Days.

Charged with representing the French Government on it's Polynesian outpost of Tahiti where he travels the island in his chauffeur driven Mercedes glad-handing and pretty much going from party to party. The arrival of an admiral (Marc Susini) and some rather hunky sailors on his island soon has tongues wagging, though. Before he knows it, his placid existence is being disturbed by increasingly popular - and disturbing -…
neutral · AI labelView post →Lush in its widescreen presentation, Albert Serra's Pacifiction is perhaps the most cinematically ambitious film I've experienced in a long time. Pacifiction is not dissimilar to Claire Denis's White Material or her most recent Stars at Noon, when it comes the hubris of White colonialism in its misguided superiority complex, and manifest destiny. But Serra's narrative scarcity makes Denis's films feel like reading a dense instruction manual for a washing machine by comparison. But what's…
